Avatar 12:05pm Duane:

Hola Cecile, Carmichael! Welcome aboard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Afternoon, gang!
  12:07pm JtotheK:

Hi Duane, hi trainers.
Avatar 12:07pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Morning everyone!
Avatar 12:10pm Cheri Pi:

Heya Duane!
  12:11pm SeanG:

Hola Duane--sounding fresh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm JP from KC:

Hey Duane! I heard of Kashif's unfortunate passing. I was wondering if we'd hear some of his stuff today.
Avatar 12:14pm Cecile:

He was a year older than I am.
Avatar 12:15pm Cecile:

didn't that teacher and his wife adopt him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm maestroso:

Played lots of Kashif in R&B bands back in the '80s. Fun stuff for a keyboard player.
Avatar 12:17pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:18pm bennett:

Hey Duane, thanks for doing this. RIP Kashif!!!!! I hope we can hear The Mood - a fave album cut
  12:20pm SeanG:

this is as good as it gets!
Avatar 12:20pm bennett:

also no "This is: Kashif" Spotify playlist today, smh Spotify!!! No respek
Avatar 12:23pm bennett:

- would also love to hear Howard Johnson's "So Fine," another Kashif prod.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm steveo:

What was the dynamic where people would willingly take on foster children and then turn around and treat them so horribly? Were the foster parents getting cash from the state or something?
Avatar 12:29pm bennett:

oh man I forgot that Kashif did stuff with Dr. York!
Avatar 12:31pm Jshatan:

The Duane Train running on the EXPRESS track! Cheers, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm nickybones:

@steveo: yeah, states (or, at least NJ/NY that i know of) give foster families a sizeable amount of money ostensibly to care for the children in their care.
Avatar 12:32pm kumar:

whoa! I never knew this inspired Contort Yourself
Avatar 12:32pm bennett:

and Giorge Pettus, really prime late 80s watercolor album cover on that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm steveo:

thanks @nickybones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Kat in Chicago:

This is great, I didn't really know about Kashif but certainly heard his music.
Avatar 12:35pm PKNY:

@steveo - Out of the realm of the Duane Train wheelhouse, John Joseph of the Cro-mags wrote extensively about his experiences in the NY foster system in the 70s, lots of horror stories of being mistreated by folks collecting money as foster parents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm steveo:

I'll check it @PKNY, thanks. And thanks, of course, to Duane for this show celebrating Kashif.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm robyn:

feeling the sunshine.. good morning everyone
Avatar 12:48pm Cecile:

Kashif did end up with wonderful foster parents, who unofficially adopted him but what an awful road he had until then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm chris:

hello there
Avatar 12:58pm Cecile:

Hennepin County, for many reasons, has chased off many prospective foster parents, including my husband and myself.
Avatar 12:59pm Cecile:

I've heard their policies are a lot better now, but it's kind of too late for us. We'll have to take a mentoring route, we're too set in our ways.
Avatar 1:03pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:05pm PKNY:

Gotta love stories about Islamic conversion coupled with groupie love!
Avatar 1:08pm Cecile:

this kind of mid tempo RnB jam is like air to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Technically this track can still apply to Drake's Cakes…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Kat in Chicago:

Damn, I missed what looks like the fun part of the interview and I've got a meeting coming up. Will catch up later! Great show. Duane.
Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

see ya, Kat!
Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

Is it Kenny himself singing?
Avatar 1:16pm Duane:

Cecile: No, It's Barry Johns..bassist for twennynine!
Avatar 1:16pm Duane:

barry johnson
Avatar 1:16pm Cecile:

ah! What is Kenny playing or doing?
Avatar 1:17pm Duane:

that solo:)
Avatar 1:17pm Cecile:

okay, I hear Kenny, never mind.
Avatar 1:18pm Cecile:

wow, must be nice. Kashif arranges it, someone else sings and plays it, he just walks in and squawks. Sweet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Ike:

I prefer the other Kenny G., but this is sort of appealingly dopey.
Avatar 1:19pm Cecile:

you know the only weak part is the sax.
Avatar 1:19pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:19pm PKNY:

"Love Come Down" is one of the all-time jams!
  1:20pm el BO-bO:

Oooooh yeeeeaaaah. Dancing my arse off. Good times.
Avatar 1:20pm Cecile:

I could die happy having done "Shame" and "Love Come Down"
Avatar 1:20pm Cecile:

I'm in Love is a great bonus.
  1:21pm burt in fla:

music make these thugs calm down
Avatar 1:21pm Nick S.:

Love Come Down is such a great song!
  1:22pm el BO-bO:

Before I discovered punk and goth, THIS was my music. "Ooh you maje my love come down." I miss it. I should've married a girl with rhythm man.
Avatar 1:25pm Cecile:

  1:26pm Polyus:

It's true, that was irresistible.
Avatar 1:26pm Cecile:

he had quite the run of perfect rollerskating jams.
Avatar 1:26pm kumar:

Agreed! It's so fun to see Love Come Down light up a dance floor.
Avatar 1:27pm Nick S.:

Perfect in every way!
Avatar 1:29pm drewo:

Right 'atcha! Thanks for the great tribute Duane.
Avatar 1:44pm Cecile:

who is playing bass on this?
Avatar 1:45pm Duane:

Cecile: He is
Avatar 1:46pm Cecile:

wow. pretty damn tight.
Avatar 1:48pm Duane:

Kenny G on the solo..:) HAHA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Might have to disappear into the supply closet for 10 minutes…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Michael 98145:

really?! Bela Fleck ?? whoa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Goyim in the AM:

I hear the one kid in the Wootens turned out to be a fairly decent bassist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Carmichael:

The Wootens lived here in my hometown!
Avatar 2:04pm kumar:

huh, now I know how to pronounce Arista
Avatar 2:06pm bennett:

thanks for hitting my reqs Duane! :)
Avatar 2:07pm kumar:

damn Duane, I knew you'd have a Whitney deep cut!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm chris:

be sure to knock first, Greg :D
Avatar 2:12pm Cecile:

I always like your historical retrospectives.
Also, I think I slept on too much Kashif.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Howdy all. Duane...Twas an amazin train that pulled into Prospect Park on 9/17. Thanks for all!
Avatar 2:20pm Cecile:

Duane, Kashif wrote so nicely about love. But the Unsung tiptoed around his personal life. Was he a private person, married to his sound board, or was there some kind of weird Troy McClure things going on? Not that there's anything wrong with that. As long as he's happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Passaic River Blues:

This is like auditing a dope music history class.
  2:21pm Sam:

Wow, the government's funky! Go Obama!
Avatar 2:21pm Cecile:

Is this the govmint groove? they are funky.
Avatar 2:21pm Cecile:

One nation under a groove, baby.
  2:21pm Marcel M:

This is some hawt EAS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm steveo:

Who can we trust to be on time if we can't trust the government?
  2:22pm Sam:

Your tax dollars should be used to make you happy and groovy. That's just basic justice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm robyn:

touch sensitive should be bigger here. Flume is apparently in the top 50 of all artists in the world?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm chris:

i just changed my mind... there is hope for the usa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm MD:

Where is big brother???
  2:23pm Sam:

The revolution will not be radio-ized.
  2:23pm Brendan:

That was not EASy
Avatar 2:24pm bennett:

hope the archive for this show goes up quick cause I'm gonna need that rrrrreewind asap
Avatar 2:24pm Cecile:

the USA...now hiring for Infrastructure jobs!!!!!
  2:25pm Sam:

Did the government broadcast a subliminal message really fast that only our unconscious mind understood? And after lying dormant for a while, years from now we'll find ourselves doing something bizarre that they want us to do and we won't know why or even remember that today ever happened?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Michael 98145:

what Cliff said
Avatar 2:26pm Cecile:

everyone should be doing the electric slide right about now.
  2:26pm ami ad:

Hello D.J Duane.FMU failed the test?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm MD:

the USA...now hiring for Infrastructure jobs!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm MD:

  2:28pm Sam:

Oh that would be awesome! Every channel is Duane! Coming out of every speaker of every elevator, mall and hardward store. Just like in that movie.
  2:29pm herb.nyc:

The EAS came thru on WCBS-AM. We were told Putin has sent bombs to us! Carry on.
  2:30pm Brendan:

The rising synth in Kool and the Gang's 'Summer Madness' would make the best EAS alert ever. Not a request, just an observation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm MD:

Avatar 2:32pm PKNY:

A friend of mine would describe 80's dance/boogie songs like "Love Come Down" as 'cookout jams'.
  2:33pm ami ad:

Heard the message on WKCR and WQXR
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Michael 98145:

( anybody else remember CONELRAD ? )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm rbxbx:

Thanks for doing this show Duane – I sadly didn't know about Kashif in his lifetime, but will certainly familiarize further now.
Avatar 2:40pm bennett:

Yeah just to echo what Duane said, just do yourself a favor and pick up the Kashif self-titled album next time you see it in the bins, it's cheap and amazing.
Avatar 2:44pm drewo:

@PKNY: or even 'house-cleaning jams'—but I mean that in a good way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm rbxbx:

bennett: will do! :)
Avatar 2:47pm Cecile:

I like how Kashif was emotive, but he didn't oversing. And all his vocalists were the same.
  2:57pm JtotheK:

Enjoyed the show, thanks Duane!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm chris:

thank you so much, Duane!
  3:00pm oks:

it was amazing! thank you Duane!!!
