Hello all! Today's show will be mostly '60s and '70s psych and prog -- just because.
Avatar 11:58am βrian:

Just popping in via the pneumatic tube network. My ears are ringing a bit.

Heya, Kay!

Aha -- you saw the dinosaur thing! Decided to use it for a future show. Seemed too militaristic for today's program.
Avatar 12:06pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, Sir Doug Doug!

  12:15pm JtotheK:

Hi Tony, greetings everyone.
Avatar 12:16pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, JtotheK!
Avatar 12:20pm Tony Coulter:

Alain Markusfeld's later albums are a lot more sedate than his first two, that's for sure. (This is his first.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm mauri:

Hello. oh Horn is canadian.
Ensemble Ambrosius, forgot about them. must listen the album the next time I go to hometown.
Avatar 12:27pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Mauri!
Avatar 12:27pm northguineahills:

I have a record from a group called proyecto a (no parenthesis around the A) that was 80s hiphop en espanol. Don't have access to it right now to confirm.
Avatar 12:31pm Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, NGH! Weird coincidence, that....
Avatar 12:37pm V Priceless:

@ Tony - I'm reading lots of stellar previews about new VDGG album dropping 9/30. Could be their last.
Avatar 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

Yeah, I've seen people praising it too. Stay tuned for Peter Hammill later in this set, btw.
Avatar 12:39pm V Priceless:

: )
Avatar 12:40pm coelacanth:

proyecto means "project", so there may be many records using that.
Avatar 12:41pm Tony Coulter:

Oh, that makes sense. I was thinking it meant "projection" -- which would make for a greater coincidence.
Avatar 12:45pm northguineahills:

In Tony's example, proyecto is a noun, in mine (it should have read proyecta), it was a verb (projected?)
Avatar 12:46pm coelacanth:

...i visited my facadebook page last night for the first time in 2-3 (+?) years to see how badly they've perverted my profile over time. i had "Caruso" as a musical "like" (as in Enrico). they changed it to "caruso" - some bullshit dj or something. i thought he must have delusions of grandeur but maybe that's his surname?
Avatar 12:48pm coelacanth:

ngh, in that case - i don't get it!
Avatar 12:55pm Cecile:

I had an acquaintance who would put on Peter Hammill records to clear out people at his parties.
Avatar 12:56pm Tony Coulter:

Wayda mean? Listen to these upbeat partytime lyrics.
Avatar 12:57pm V Priceless:

can't say enuff about how great PH is...the bridge between prog and punk and everything in-between, IMH.
Avatar 12:58pm Cecile:

and people were so inspired they left to party elsewhere, guided by his spirit.
Avatar 12:59pm V Priceless:

still trying to track down his 'House of Usher' record...
Avatar 1:00pm V Priceless:

'nuff said : )
Avatar 1:00pm Tony Coulter:

Don't know that one....
Avatar 1:01pm V Priceless:

Avatar 1:01pm Cecile:

John Lydon and Mark E. Smith love him to death.
Avatar 1:04pm V Priceless:

oh, I didn't know about Mark E. Smith..apparently Bowie was obsessed with 'Chameleon In The Shadow of The Night' around the time he was writing 'Station to Station'.
Avatar 1:06pm V Priceless:

nice 'tronplay
Avatar 1:18pm Cecile:

madman bummer...
Avatar 1:20pm geezerette:

I've seen James Intveld many times and he's brilliant. Is this a brother? Didn't know he had one!

Howdy Tony & gang!
Avatar 1:22pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, geezerette!

Dunno if the two Intvelds are related ... but it is an unusual name, so....
Avatar 1:22pm northguineahills:

@coelacanth - proyectar is the verb form, to project, while as you mentioned earlier, proyecto, is the noun form, therefore (a) project. One of the very few examples where homophones in English, and their corresponding homophones in Spanish are identical in each respective language.
Avatar 1:24pm northguineahills:

Although, not a true homophone in English as the accent is different for either one.
Avatar 1:25pm geezerette:

That's what I was thinking Tony, only Intveld I've ever heard of. Maybe just an early record. His Dad's a musician too.
Avatar 1:28pm geezerette:

God, the 70's sound so innocent.
Avatar 1:32pm Tony Coulter:

That was back before ISIS beat us at the internet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Carmichael:

Avatar 1:33pm geezerette:

Avatar 1:36pm V Priceless:

Avatar 1:36pm Sem Chumbo:

It's rigged Yugely!
Avatar 1:37pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm listener james from westwood:

Ah, this Brown tune is always fun.
Avatar 1:40pm Sem Chumbo:

Hey, Tony.
Watched the Screaming Jay Hawkins doc last night on /r/documentaries, Arthur Brown is great but not as out there as SJH.
  1:40pm βrian:

Avatar 1:41pm Tony Coulter:

@ Sem: Screamin' Jay is great -- I'm a big fan for sure!
Avatar 1:41pm βrian:

He didn't put a spell on you, Sem?
Avatar 1:42pm Sem Chumbo:

He did, and now I have the legendary Hawkins off-the-charts sperm count.
Avatar 1:44pm Tony Coulter:

How many kids did he have again? If anyone really knows....
Avatar 1:44pm Sem Chumbo:

...I keep seeing 58...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Stanley:

Avatar 1:45pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Sir Stanley!
Avatar 1:46pm Sem Chumbo:

Knighthood? Stanley, congrats.
Avatar 1:47pm geezerette:

'nother Screamin' Jay fan here!
Saw him live once;whole thing, dry ice "fog" swirling around coffin he rose up from, Voodoo stick...man could he sing!
Avatar 1:50pm geezerette:

Wikipedia says Hawkins had 33 children. Six wives & lots of extracurricular activity.
Avatar 1:53pm V Priceless:

swell show, TC!
Avatar 1:54pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, VP!
Avatar 1:55pm Sem Chumbo:

@geezerette: official biographer says:
Avatar 1:55pm coelacanth:

i read that he really hated that voodoo shtick, but he felt (justifiably) that it was the only way he'd make it.
Avatar 1:56pm Cecile:

what about the lizard people?
Avatar 1:56pm coelacanth:

if that's true i hope he still was able to have fun with it.
Avatar 1:58pm Tony Coulter:

It gave him permission to behave outrageously, which I suspect he wanted to do....
Avatar 1:59pm Tony Coulter:

@ Cecile: The ostrich people are too blind to notice our lizard people overlords.
Avatar 2:01pm geezerette:

@Sem: WOW! Impressive! Like Nina Simone his aspirations were
more refined than was possible in his time. Still great music and nothing to be ashamed of. American history, sheesh.
Avatar 2:06pm Tony Coulter:

Randy Holden was in The Other Half (on now)
Avatar 2:19pm northguineahills:

who was in Hub?
Avatar 2:21pm Tony Coulter:

The following composer-type gents: Chris Brown, John Bischoff, Mark Trayle, Phil Stone, Scot Gresham-Lancaster, Tim Perkis
Avatar 2:23pm Tony Coulter:

That was my one left-turn digression for the day. Couldn't resist....
Avatar 2:25pm coelacanth:

Tony @1:58 no doubt; but it was also a faster track to recognition in a white man's world.
- just as Jimi Hendrix was marketed as "the wild man of borneo" at first -as if he was just a novelty. man that pissed him off.
Avatar 2:28pm northguineahills:

Avatar 2:28pm Sem Chumbo:

1st time listener loving the mix. Thanks, Tony!
Avatar 2:32pm coelacanth:

really Sem? i'm surprised.
- Tony's program is often quite different than this -as in: more "noise", weirdness, out there long proggy jams...
Avatar 2:32pm Tony Coulter:

@ coelacanth: Definitely see what you're saying -- but Screamin' Jay's shtick also gave him permission to act crazy and even a bit dangerous in a white man's world ... which was a kind of victory, methinks.
Avatar 2:33pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Sem! Glad you're enjoying the show!!
Avatar 2:33pm coelacanth:

oh yeah, i absolutely agree.
Avatar 2:36pm geezerette:

Tony @1:59: Yep! (watched the thing last night with those special lizard revealing glasses on. ALL lizards! Voting for the one with lipstick.)
Avatar 2:38pm coelacanth:

it's time to get back outside.
Thanks Tony! excellent as always.

ciao, beautiful mutants
Avatar 2:38pm Tony Coulter:

See yerz, coelacanth!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm doctorjazz:

Avatar 2:46pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Doctor J!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm listener james from westwood:

Have not heard this Kansas cut in way too long.
Avatar 2:52pm geezerette:

Great show Tony! Aural high! :)
Avatar 2:52pm βrian:

Vive la musique française !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm listener james from westwood:

Oooh, that French special sounds tasty. Thanks for today's show and eagerly awaiting that one!
Avatar 2:54pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, geezerette ... and everyone else!

See you all next week!!
  2:56pm JtotheK:

Thanks Tony, enjoyed the show!
Avatar 2:58pm Cecile:

I had to listen to People of the South Wind again for the first time in a long time. It's the only Kansas song I like because it's so bizarre. Prog-disco-soul song about Native Americans.
Avatar 2:59pm V Priceless:

thanx Tony
