You can safely say this about any 70s rock album: "Aynsley Dunbar played drums."

![]() Hey! Hello Therese! |
![]() |
![]() Hullo! |
![]() |
![]() You say that like it's a bad thing, carm? :) |

Carmichael:
Not at all, Rev! | |
![]() |
![]() The more of Buck's music I hear, the more I like it - while possibly the reverse of his person... |
Sun. 9/25/16 10:12pm
Carmichael:
Buck had the greatest guitarist, who tragically died in a car crash...

![]() From "It Won't Be Long" -- to "Tomorrow Never Knows"! Therese Beats the hammer on the nail! Good evening Therese and everyone! |
![]() |
![]() Oh yas |
![]() |
![]() I saw Paul McC in August - great way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Revolver's release! :D |
Sun. 9/25/16 10:18pm
Carmichael:
Love the timeline, Therese! Not many people would pay this level attention to the actual music.
![]() |
![]() And these fellas - more like The Beatles or Faces than Hollies, but a su-POIRB Jersey band any way you look at it! |
Sun. 9/25/16 10:21pm
Carmichael:
Oh man. They dried the rain ...
![]() |
![]() Ladies and gentlemen… A set of “The B’s!” |
![]() |
![]() "Bread Cross" and "Mick Bronson"?? Actually that first one sounds like a good name. |

Carmichael:
Guten Abend. | |

![]() I recommend as well! I saw it on Hulu, but that is a great doco! |

Marc15:
The Beatles had a fun together before Yoko Ono came around and ruined everything
![]() |
![]() It's a quote attributed to John himself, but that is also disputed. |
![]() |
![]() I think that was John L's quote. Ringo had felt unappreciated and left for the Med in the summer of '68. (An anecdote from a fisherman led to writing "Octopus's Garden"). Paul filled in on drums for recording "Back In The USSR" and "Dear Prudence". So supposedly a reporter asked John if Ringo was the best drummer in the world - in light of that he snapped back that "he's not even the best drummer in the Beatles". Too harsh! In fact Ringo's one of the best rock drummers in recorded music. But I get the joke. |
![]() |
![]() And yet another example of why John is my least favorite Beatle... |
![]() |
![]() The Beatles had to invent what it even meant to be a band that couldn't sanely tour anymore - victims of their own incomparable success, in many ways - & that also contributed to the dissolution of their Manager, who then overdosed - & then it was impossible to find someone they could all trust who was actually capable of 'Managing' the Beatles' career & Business - whatever that meant anyway! So - lay off Yoko I says. (Yes - everyone was jealous of John's attention.) |
![]() |
![]() @Marc: Yoko has some great material in her own right, a lot of FMU folks like that stuff. But - she ain't no Beatle. Not in her nature and John could have continued stretching out the Beatles another couple of years without her, but he chose her instead. Really the end of the Lennon/McCartney partnership was the end of the "engine" driving the band. John leaving/disbanding just made it official, and Yoko was of course a big factor in him leaving. |
![]() |
![]() John generally praised the other Beatles musically & in other ways, & got on best w/ Ringo by the end. If others critiqued The Beatles, he'd rip their head off: he reserved that right for himself...ha... |
![]() |
![]() Why is every DJ playing “Pinball Summer?” |
![]() |
![]() Just saying… |
![]() |
![]() John: "I'd've stayed in The Beatles if I could've pulled their pants down & shown them as we really were."..."I started the band & I ended it - it's as simple as that." ...&tc. ... |
![]() |
![]() If John had lived into the 90s, how would a Beatles "reunion" have come out? I wonder if they would have continued the big stadium route like the Stones, or maybe would've had instead "surprise" reunion shows on live TV shows around the world after planning in advance. Seems keeping with their spirit - especially after Anthology, that might have been a way to promote that. |
![]() |
![]() Because it's in the new bin and it's awesome? |
![]() |
![]() @Jake: Well the New Bin trumps all, so there you have it. |
![]() |
![]() So great to hear you tonight--Cheers Therese! |
![]() |
![]() In fact, John was murdered by an insane fan after getting back in the public eye, & George getting stabbed in the lung didn't help him either. It's serious business. |
![]() |
![]() Okay… I just need to process this… |
![]() |
![]() @RRN63: It is Beatle*mania* after all - some of it was fun insanity, other parts scare you and give you pause. But no one can survive levels of fan-mania that high for long. Even NON-Beatlemania fame is destructive, yet the Internet will make everyone famous for 15 minutes - then destroy them! Andy's ghost told me so... |

P-90:
Therese: still kinda "time-warpy" hearing you at this time, but loving every minute
![]() |
![]() I like Therese at this time. Also—to counter my “Pinball Summer” comment—the Beatles tracks she just played I enjoyed and I have my own issues with the Beatles so there. Kudos! |
![]() |
![]() Sadly compressed into 2 hours! But while I don't prefer the earlier time, maybe more people can listen in before midnight, so that's positive. |
Sun. 9/25/16 10:51pm
P-90:
No one was ever too stoned to disco. Just too stoned to remember it the next day. Or decade
![]() |
![]() @P-90: Or to admit discoing while stoned. But as long as you disco while stoned, everyone else does too, and everything works out. Or something.. |
![]() |
![]() Has anyone ever been too stoned to Sudoku? |
![]() |
![]() @Jake: ME! I call out the numbers, time and time again, but they do nothing! Then someone comes over and tells me I'm supposed to *write* the numbers in??! I mean I've been Sudokuing while stoned longer than they have been, who are THEY to tell me what to do!!... |
![]() |
![]() I will say this, I can’t be too stoned to “Mr. Do!” Partially because I have admitted to myself I have a “Mr. Do!” problem and have stopped obsessively playing it. |
![]() |
![]() Dutch or S. African band? @Jake: Wow, never heard of that one, that was early 80s. I wonder if I can find that at a "classic arcade" place. |
![]() |
![]() There is a place in Jersey City that has a well maintained “Mr. Do!” machine. I have to avoid it when visiting Jersey City. |

Therese, thank you for shifting to fit my new post-Night Owl schedule
![]() |
![]() Hey Therese, everyone! |
![]() |
![]() Uh oh! This sounds dangerously funky/R&B, like an 80s throwback! Hang on to your hats...and DANCE! |
![]() |
![]() Hey mariano! |
![]() |
![]() Ah, actually Off The Wall, '79. Quincy J was a good producer, made it seem early 80s! |
![]() |
![]() Last time I was in the WFMU record library it did not contain a copy of Slayer's "Reign In Blood." |
![]() |
![]() hello Therese! It's great to be listening to your show live for the first time. Enough of archives... |
![]() |
![]() "Please Please Me, Plesiosaur" |
![]() |
![]() Someone put up a joke exhibit about a supposed mysterious accident involving the Staten Island Ferry and a giant octopus. |
![]() |
![]() Hello Fernando! And KP! More early listeners coming in :) |

![]() @Revolution Rabbit Nov63: In my comments you mentioned a podcast that analyzes the Opie Cummimgham Beatles doc. Can you give name and/or link? Thanks in advance! |
![]() |
![]() Groovy, another Julie for Stan! |
![]() |
![]() *Cunningham |
![]() |
![]() RAVI! \m/ (Sitaring fingers getting ready) |
![]() |
![]() New release too! From the Shankar vault? |
![]() |
![]() I would also like to hear that podcast analyzing the film that the kid who played Winthrop Paroo in the film version of the Music Man made about the Beatles. |
![]() |
![]() Nice Shankar. |
![]() |
![]() Podcast on this here page. Not sure if it's the one RRN63 was onto. www.bbc.co.uk... "Ron Howard on The Beatles, Sharon Olds, Tom Ellis, Two Women / Wednesday, September 14, 2016 2:58 PM" |
![]() |
![]() Winthrop Paroo? I love WFMU. Where else can us esoteric pop-culture dorks convene? Nowhere respectable I say. |
![]() |
![]() @Jake: It's cleaner here in this digital space than underneath the stairwell at comic book shops. |
![]() |
![]() Christian Slater was Winthrop Paroo in the Broadway version. So hey! *Wikipedia Moment* |
![]() |
![]() @Matt: Ha! And you know what? There’s a thrift store in “fashionable” Chelsea that is having a CD sale of like 50 cents per CD. So I checked it out. Found some great deals for 50 cents but the body odor was surreal. |
![]() |
![]() To further Illustrate Therese's point about the ridiculous leap the Beatles' sound took: Help: Released August 6, 1965 Revolver: Released August 5, 1966 Less than a year separated "You're Going to Lose That Girl" from "Tomorrow Never Knows"! |
![]() |
![]() Lee Hazelwood songbook! I can totally feel that - Dean & Britta do a beautiful version. |
![]() |
![]() @Jake: Like RSD - the things we must suffer (not to mention all those actual PEOPLE!!!) to find good deals. |
![]() |
![]() Yeehaw!!!!! Glad Dwight Y played a version of this! |
![]() |
![]() @GaylordFields: You know, kids going through the growth spurts from 10 to 12 can change quickly as well. So hey! The world! Life! |
![]() |
![]() I think I like this more than the original. |
![]() |
![]() And WHAT a musical growth spurt the Beatles went through! "Hey, their voice changed!" |
![]() |
![]() FWIW, ever know anybody who became famous fairly quickly? All things considered it’s admirable the Beatles took their fame as a cue to challenge themselves. |
