  12:02pm Marie:

Thanks for this song Chris--it's helping me channel the general aggro. I am feeling towards a cowrker of mine. I quit!!!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Greg from ZONE 5:

First non-basement show I ever went to: Smashing Pumpkins @ Irving Plaza.
Avatar 12:05pm Chris M.:

hey good afternoon(!) and thanks for joining me

None of the pumpkins songs I like!

Freedom!
Avatar 12:07pm Cecile:

I like 1/2 of James Iha's first solo album. It's quite nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Step One: Hang out on a yacht listening to Chris M.
Step Two: Get a yacht.
Avatar 12:09pm Cecile:

what is the theme today?
  12:09pm Marie:

I like totally didn't know the lyrics when I said freedom in a post before, it was just the feeling I was getting from the song. Thanks for playing this Chris!
Avatar 12:10pm zeer:

same feeling here marie (so often SP)
Avatar 12:10pm Chris M.:

@Cecile: maybe kind of an end of summer vibe a little?
@Marie: FREEDOM ROCK LIVES!
Avatar 12:11pm Cecile:

that sounds good.
If you are down with it, some June of '44 might be cool.

Avatar 12:19pm zeer:

@chris, speaking of freedom and end of summer - are you familiar with the (earlier) tocotronic stuff from germany?
  12:19pm Marcel M:

Yo Chris! Gonna be listening with the boys while we head up to Canadia
  12:20pm llid:

i heard it here first!
Avatar 12:21pm Chris M.:

@Marcel M: have a great time bring back some canadian whiskey
  12:22pm Marcel M:

This Kim G is cool
  12:22pm Marie:

"FREEDOM ROCK" (should always be all caps)--could we float it as a new category, ala "Yacht Rock"? Neil Young I think has made a lot of FREEDOM ROCK.
Avatar 12:23pm ottovonbqe:

Gonna be tied up in this dungeon most of the day, but listening when I can.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm sphere:

the Smashing Pumpkins annoyed me to no end. though "Tonight" and "Siva" were exceptions.

If I were dancing to this, I would do a variation on the funky chicken.

Avatar 12:35pm zeer:

@chris, hard to describe - let WP do the work: en.wikipedia.org...
Tocotronic is well known in germany, They have great german vocals + lyrics and guitar sound, with a lot of sadness but energy, floating into positivity and back. something like alternative, post-punk. I recommend all albums till "Pure Vernunft darf niemals siegen" in 2005.
e.g:
"Pure Vernunft Darf Niemals Siegen" ("Pure Vernunft Darf Niemals Siegen" #07)
"Der schönste Tag in meinem Leben" ("Es ist egal, aber" #13)
"Meine Freundin und ihr Freund" ("Digital ist Besser" 02)
  12:52pm JakeGould:

@Greg: Smashing Pumpkins is a better first concert than mine which was Sting at Radio City Music Hall for that Dreaming Blue Turtles tour in 1985?
  12:54pm Polyus:

Lovely bit of pop music, this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm chris:

Ha! Chris M is 3 hours late!
  12:56pm Dean:

Speaking of Sting, I listened last night to Peter Gabriel's contribution to the Snowden movie s/t. Blech. So disappointing. I used to adore Gabriel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Dave in Vermont:

how 'bout some rock music
  1:01pm JakeGould:

What about an edit of the Richard Pryor album filled with substitute swears? That could be a thing.
  1:04pm skipper:

Who's there? Dave The Spazz or Chris M? Do you ever play
the sounds of 'Eyes' on Curb Records or 'New Voices Take Two' on Instinct Records?

Avatar 1:09pm ottovonbqe:

Can someone give me advice? I recently got a parking ticket in another state (NY), where I used to live. The meter maid obviously got the license plate info from my still-valid NY registration sticker, thus ticketing my old plates that were sent in and destroyed months ago. Should I pay the ticket?
Avatar 1:12pm Cecile:

yes
Avatar 1:12pm Cheri Pi:

get ready for FTWR!
Avatar 1:12pm Cecile:

FLUTE TINGED WITCH ROCK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm coelacanth:

if you're not going back to that state for at least 7 years, no.
...and if it's nyc, you may be safe in ny state as well.
...but then, my experience may not hold for everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm chris:

if you don't have free legal counsel, it will probably be cheaper to pay the parking ticket, bqe... especially if you want to move back to ny
Avatar 1:16pm Cecile:

also, if for some reason you have cops or a DA who's on your case, even a parking ticket can be an excuse to hassle you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm chris:

good point Cecile...

\m/
  1:17pm rw:

If they sent you the ticket they have your address. I'd pay. Though not paying would be pretty tempting. If for nothing else than just to see if what happens (or doesn't).
Avatar 1:18pm Cheri Pi:

Do I detect some Yiddish humor here?
Avatar 1:18pm Chris M.:

COPS HATE THIS TIP! avoid any ticket with a simple snake-based remedy you can tincture at home: www.realsnakeremedytincturesfortraffictickets.gov
  1:19pm Polyus:

part man, part tar, he is MANTAR
Avatar 1:20pm Cecile:

You can also call them up. You might be able to get off or pay less because you did that.
Avatar 1:21pm Chris from DC:

Bummed I'm missing Mantar this weekend. They are great live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm coelacanth:

there are many reasons you may want to pay it. in my case they were dead wrong and it was a big one. ("blocking a bus stop") ...i took photographs to prove it.
...
so i pleaded not guilty and they ignored that -instead increasing the fine. this happened a few times until it was 3-4 hundred $$ so i just started ignoring it, and not driving into the city.
that was years ago.
  1:21pm rw:

And hey Chris M! Nice to hear the show at a new time. Creates a slight shift in perspective...

Gonna try the snake remedy for sure.
Avatar 1:25pm Chris M.:

what's everyone's favorite use of snake venom to eliminate NYC tickets? i've found a simple rattlesnake cure-all that works wonders for blocking the box.
Avatar 1:25pm βrian:

My, this is dramatical! Are you wearing your Dramatical Trousers?
  1:26pm JakeGould:

@ottovinbqe: Pay the ticket, get dressed up nice, go to a bar where rich people drink, steal their tips.

Then again that screws the bartenders so go to a bar where the bartenders suck and just steal their tips.
Avatar 1:27pm Cecile:

bqe, you just don't want to be the guy where "we picked him up on unpaid parking tickets and let him rot in county until his trial date came due."
Avatar 1:27pm Cheri Pi:

It's a little bit difficult not to giggle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Michael 98145:

something is haunting the tear garden
  1:28pm rw:

Cecile, my friend Bill went to jail that way for not licensing his dog!
Avatar 1:28pm Cecile:

it is BIG. It makes Antony look like JJ Cale.
Avatar 1:29pm Cecile:

yeah, rw, it can happen.

I am imagining Ronnie James Dio singing this song, but with more lyrics about demons.
Avatar 1:30pm ottovonbqe:

Wow, thanks for all the input. I'm leaning towards paying it since it's only $8 if I pay on time. Hudson, NY btw. Not the city.
Avatar 1:30pm Cheri Pi:

I think I hate this. Yep.
  1:31pm rw:

When his brothers came to bail him out they gave the woman a "Get Out of Jail Free" card from Monopoly. Evidently she wasn't impressed. But I thought it was pretty funny! How could one not laugh (even just a little) at that??
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

$8, that's a nothing-burger.

I think it's kind of hilarious. Like Swans-hilarious.
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

rw, because it might have been the 456th time someone had done that joke.
Avatar 1:32pm Cheri Pi:

That's what I'm detecting.
  1:32pm rw:

Yeah, I know. But still. Just a smile?
  1:33pm rw:

Makes me glad I don't work behind a window.
  1:34pm Polyus:

Avatar 1:37pm Cheri Pi:

@papps, I hateded it.
Avatar 1:38pm Chris M.:

@Cheri Pi: what did you think of the Hypnopazūzu song?
Avatar 1:40pm Cheri Pi:

I couldn't stop thinking about Marillion
Avatar 1:41pm Chris M.:

@Cheri Pi: so you were reminded of that band? and would you say that you liked or you didn't like it?
Avatar 1:44pm Cheri Pi:

I'm not a Marillion fan, but I can see how other people would like them, why do you ask Chris M?
Avatar 1:46pm Chris M.:

@Cheri Pi: so just to be clear, you did not like the song? just let me know for sure what you thought about it because it's not clear.
Avatar 1:49pm Cheri Pi:

I closed my eyes and tried to pretend Dio was singing it (as someone else suggested) but I could not save the song even with my imagination. I would have to say.....it was unlikeable to me. but I can see how others, especially Martin Glover, might like it.

It was in my town last week but I stayed away thinking it would be too packed. My gf really liked it tho. I am guessing it will be available online eventually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm chris:

i think you're right, Polyus... i was surprised Andrew Dominik filmed it in 3D... it did add something to the feeling of the film, but i would say its not necessary.

That Silver Apples song is from 2016? It sounds so familiar... is it a cover version or quote of something older? Or have I just heard it recently on the radio?
