Avatar 2:59pm Brian in UK:

Hello. It is dark over here. Off to the kitchen. Listening avidly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Stanley:

Rev it up, Bill, then kick it into gear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm mauri:

Drrrrnnnn! Drrrnnnn! Hey Bill Mac.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Parq:

It's nice and cool in here, so I'm not leaving. Let the dirt track date begin.
Avatar 3:03pm Sem Chumbo:

Stanley, you world traveler, you might have use for this: www.inflightfeed.com...
Hey, Bill, mauri!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm melinda:

hiya bill!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Uncle Michael:

I'd pay money to hear Zakir tap on a countertop.
Avatar 3:05pm Bill Mac:

Hey all! Welcome to the murky depths of Studio C!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm mauri:

Hey sem the chumbion. Hows tricks?
Avatar 3:06pm geezerette:

Bill Mac! I get to "be here now"! Yay!
Hello people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm doctorjazz:

Talk about giving the drummer some...
Avatar 3:09pm Sem Chumbo:

All good, mauri. Learning to swear in Finnish.
Turpa Kiini.
How's that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Stanley:

Hi Sem. Thanks, I'll enjoy looking at that. On my recent Lufthansa flights they had a bottle of French brandy on the trolley for an after dinner 'digestif'. Very civilised.
Avatar 3:10pm Bill Mac:

I hope that was as rude as you intended it to be
Avatar 3:11pm Bill Mac:

Is this coach or 1st class fare?
Avatar 3:12pm Sem Chumbo:

Oh, yes, BIll. T'was.
Stanley, been reading that site for a bit now. Better than some of the fiction I've been reading. Great tips, and such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Stanley:

Coach, of course, Bill. I was very surprised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm mauri:

Haha. Its kiinni or then just shorten it to just turpa kii. Ive been learning russian. Having hard time with the 7 different s' and other grammar rules.
Avatar 3:14pm Sem Chumbo:

Thanks, mauri, I feel a little more Finnish already.
Russian sounds like a man choking on his tongue while falling down the basement stairs. Gotta be a tough one.
Avatar 3:16pm Bill Mac:

God forbid you offend somebody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Parq:

On a recent trip to Europe, Mrs. Parq upgraded us to something called "Premium Coach", sort of a semi-first-class. I was taken aback when she told me the additional cost, but lemmie tell you, it was worth every dang penny. Heck, as Alan King once cracked, if you're in AA, it's worth the extra money just to test your will power.
Avatar 3:26pm Mayuko:

Avatar 3:28pm Mayuko:

What happened to Jason, though?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Stanley:

@Parq: my biggest bugbear on long-haul flights is children. On a recent trip to India my two considerably well-off friends flew the Premium Economy (more leg room, more menu choice, real glasses etc), only to be sitting close to some brawling brats. There should be a section for families like there used to be for smokers.
Avatar 3:29pm Sem Chumbo:

That Les Georges Leningrad was crazywild, in a Quebecois kinda way. A compliment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm mauri:

:D Sem well described how it sounds. I think it can sound nice sometimes like in Hedgehog In The Fog animation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Brian C.:

Bill -- thanks for playing the Denny McLain "organs in orbit" bed music -- Denny not only rocked the Hammond X-77, but he's the only pitcher to win 30 games in a season since 1934
Avatar 3:44pm Sem Chumbo:

Love this Bana. Swings just right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Bill Mac! And Zzzzzzzzzero Hourinos!
Avatar 3:50pm Bill Mac:

Hey-o Jeff.... man I hate listening to people eat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Jeff Golick:

ICYMI, Zzzzzzzzzzero Hero Hour did two superlative fill ins for D:O Radio over the last two Sundays. Kinda gave me a case of the Wally Pipps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm melinda:

I hate smacky noises made by food eating.
Avatar 3:53pm Bill Mac:

and now he's going back to sleep!!!! who does that???!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Jeff Golick:

I work very close to someone with a really bad smacky habit. It takes ALL of my self-control to keep from screaming ARE YOU SERIOUS WITH THAT I MEAN C'MON WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER MAKE IT STOP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm melinda:

It's hard to be silent when eating, but at the very least people should try to keep their mouths shut. For some reason, though, I find it adorable when cats make eating noises.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm mauri:

breakfast table smackytismack is the worst.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Parq:

For me, it's well-to-do college age or recent-grad age girls talking loudly in That Accent. You know the one I mean, that vocal-fry-sexy-baby vowel-mangling accent that almost all the white women born after 1980 seem to have all of a sudden. Becuz I'm like sewwww seck of steedents gatting ann thih plane and tokking that in that rully steepid sound.
  4:00pm Dean:

For the mouth noise fetishist:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Stanley:

Hey. You thought the Ken Nordine was bad. Check out the creepiest thing I've heard on WFMU (hint: includes eating noises). wfmu.org... track: Language Removal Services. You have been warned.
Avatar 4:01pm Sem Chumbo:

LOve Mose Allison. Without reservation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm melinda:

@Parq: I hate that too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm melinda:

The Ken Nordine track was amusing at the same time that it was icky.
Avatar 4:05pm geezerette:

hahaha,:o :D:[ :) :( :o , repeat. Mouth Noise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Parq:

Yana's guy tied to say "Yes, my darling, oh yes", but his mouth was stuck together with Turkish Taffy.
Avatar 4:11pm Bill Mac:

Turkish Taffy something else I can't eat....
Talk about mouth noises...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Doug Schulkind:

This radio show has Zzzzzzero credibility.
Avatar 4:12pm Sem Chumbo:

Serously, like out-takes from late Eighties Tom Waits, strained thru Tiger Lilies and Winged Eel Fingerling noodling.
But good nonetheless.
Avatar 4:13pm Brian in UK:

@Sem on a Russian tip from earlier. I am reading The Kreutzer Sonata by Mr Tolstoy. What an eyeopener.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Stanley:

Ah, the ol' choppers not up to the task, Bill? I feel ya on that one.
Avatar 4:14pm Bill Mac:

Yessir Doug todays topic, mouth noise whilst chewing, talk amongst yourselves

Hello Bill!
What's up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Wendy del Formaggio:

I tuned in just in time for Thin Lizzy! \m/
Avatar 4:22pm Brian in UK:

Hey Guido.
Avatar 4:23pm Sem Chumbo:

@DougSchulkind: small world. Wearing the Panter FMU T-shirt while hanging art early on an August Sunday morning before the 2nd day of an arts festival in a tiny town here in Nova Scotia, some guy yells: I love that station. Do you know who Doug Schulkind is?
Fans everywhere, man:-D
Avatar 4:23pm Bill Mac:

Hello Hello! and Guidos out yonder too?
@SC Awesome....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Jeff Golick:

That story brings a tear to my eye, S. Chumbo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm melinda:

Great story, Sem.
Avatar 4:25pm Brian in UK:

Does Doug Schulkind know who Doug Schulkind is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Hello:

cool Sem
Avatar 4:26pm Brian in UK:

Sem Perry Como time. A magic moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Sem, I was at a street fair in Easthampton, Massachusetts a few years ago and was wearing the Panter WFMU cat shirt and who did I see coming down the street toward me? A guy wearing the same shirt! We make friends everywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Doug Schulkind:

@Sem Chumbo
I paid that guy to say that. I have Zzzzzzero credibility.
Avatar 4:29pm Sem Chumbo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Stanley:

(Pssst - Doug. How about our own GTDR tee this coming marathon?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Doug Schulkind:

About 20 years ago, I was vacationing with my wife on the Maine coast. We were way down east, more than half-way to Canada. One day we were hiking a trail on a bird sanctuary island and part of the trail took us along the craggy coastline. For about 30 minutes we were walking along and saw another couple headed toward us on the same trail, each couple zigging and zagging into and out of view as the coastline undulated. Finally after a good while, the two couples finally met and passed each other, and as we did, the other fellow saw my WFMU cap and said, "We're from Jersey City. We love WFMU!"

You are a mind reader. Just this morning, I emailed Uncle Michael and said, the Drummer Stream should do its own t-shirt next marathon. I kid you not.
Avatar 4:35pm Brian in UK:

Stanley, Doug has a lot on his plate right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Doug Schulkind:

I cannot deny it. I love how you said "our own" GTDR tee. My cockles have been warmed.
Avatar 4:40pm Brian in UK:

Jeez you will be playing Hot Chocolate next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Bill, was your bed music the theme from "The Third Man"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Uncle Michael:

I believe a shirt will happen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Doug Schulkind:

As they say, shirt happens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Stanley:

@UM - cool. Then a pillow case the year after?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Uncle Michael:

Well, if you'd prefer that to a GTDR felt Xmas stocking.
Avatar 4:44pm Brian in UK:

Would you like you're stocking felt, Stanley?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Jeff Golick:

How about a tea cozy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Hello:

Where did you find this?
Avatar 4:45pm Brian in UK:

Jazz cigarettes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Stanley:

A long handled WFMU shoe horn!
Avatar 4:45pm Sem Chumbo:

A tea cozy is appropriate winter heard wear here in the GWN
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Jeff Golick:

Or perhaps a whalebone ear horn?
Avatar 4:46pm Bill Mac:

@Wendy Yes! One of my all time favorite songs too. I looked for year for the Anton Karas version of the tune and I come here there's an album of his material being used to cover a DJ safe in the kitchen.
Avatar 4:46pm Brian in UK:

An embossed loufah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Guido from Cologne:

Avatar 4:49pm Bill Mac:

@Guido yeah nI thought so too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Bill Mac, I think I remember seeing that cover on one of the DJ lockers. It has an illustration of some hands and piano keys, right? I wonder whose locker it is...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Jeff Golick:

Ooooh tennis wrist band(s), yeah! Matching head band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Wendy del Formaggio:

p.s. The cinema near here did a big Orson Welles retrospective this summer and I got to see "The Third Man" on the big screen again, which is the only place it should be seen! So much light and shadow. They also showed "Touch of Evil," which I loooove.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Stanley:

@Jeff - a headband! You beat me to it.
Avatar 4:52pm Bill Mac:

Next to the mail cubbies.... I think I found another copy of it and ripped it to a CD. Third Man is one of my all time faves, but mostly because of the music
Avatar 4:54pm Brian in UK:

Wendy we went to Vienna last year and went on the big wheel. What a scene in the film.
Avatar 4:55pm Brian in UK:

Wendy I totally agree about seeing films on the big screen. That is how it was meant to be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Brian, yes, I hear parts of the amusement park are still there. I bet it was a lovely view from the big wheel. That's a big wheel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Bill, yeah, the music is fab. I think I have a few versions of the song floating around in my mp3 collection. I'll take a look and email you if I find some interesting results.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Guido from Cologne:

That was agrest set!
Avatar 4:59pm Brian in UK:

It is still in a fun park, rides etc. Great view of the not too high rise city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Stanley:

The sewer is still the best attraction.

Brian, a city at human scale! What a concept, says the person who lived in NYC for four years. :-)

Stanley, haha! I wonder if there's a list of films with sewer and subway chase scenes. "M" "The Taking of Pelham 123" "The Warriors"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Guido from Cologne:

I second Bill’s recommendation on seeing Strawbs ACOUSTIC SHOW. Fantastic music and Dave Cousins can really spin a tale. They are playing UK and Canada

That Zappa track came out right around the time I finished college. Needless to say, it had a bit of foreboding effect on me.
Avatar 5:34pm Bill Mac:

Frank was big on my horizon right around this time too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Stanley:

I used to sing it to my pal, who was forced to take a job in a gas station, when the patience at the dole office had run out on him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Parq:

Holy Ned, is this Tiger Lillies covering Send In the Clowns? My *entire* *life* has changed.
