Live performance and chat with Sugar Ponies (Suzanne Kramer and Michael McGovern)
San Franciscans Suzanne Kramer and Michael McGovern have been the creative core of this folk-rock group since 2009. Kramer's voice might remind you of Lucinda Williams but she has a unique way of phrasing lyrics with a strength and tenderness behind them. McGovern counts XTC's Andy Partridge and Pete Townsend as guitar influences, and he has a Skywalker Ranch connection as well. Their latest disc, "It's a Sign," was produced by the great Ed Stasium, who worked with The Ramones, Talking Heads, Smithereens, and Living Colour. Suzanne and Michael from Sugar Ponies played some of their tunes live for WFMU.

Yes....what Van said :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Kate - Top10 ConceptRawkers, Joni Top10 Writers, Sandy Top10 Singers.
I suppose Sandy, Linda & Shirley Collins all (searches for word)...archetypal, elemental UK Folk voices.
  9:25pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Irene, your show is my favorite on FMU because it soothes my savage breast. I just moved to NYC and started a new job and it's been a little rough but these lovely sounds have helped lift my spirits!
Avatar 9:28pm Van in DC:

Luncinda still qualifies this set as a nominee :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Van! Maybe I'll get to Meg or Sharon later. We have a live set coming up from Sugar Ponies first. Bronwyn, good luck with your new adventures in NYC. It's a big step but I hope the music helps. And Hello to you, KP & Rev. Rabbit!
  9:31pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Thanks :)
Avatar 9:32pm Van in DC:

Avatar 9:51pm Van in DC:

Ahhh, glad to see that Lucinda Williams was an influence on Suzanne
Avatar 9:53pm Van in DC:

If I could remember songs from my dreams I would be... uh... somebody writing songs ;)
Avatar 9:54pm Van in DC:

I don't know what their full sound is like (yet) but I love the simple acoustics of this live set. Even with the restarts :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, oops, caught me! I missed an edit! THis was recorded in July, and I guess I got distracted listening back to it. It's easy to fall into her voice. I'll play a couple of their full band recordings shortly.
  9:57pm herb.nyc:

Hi. Been listening nude for 30" (post shower). I recommend! Re SVE- she released a song w proceeds to a gun safety group.
Avatar 9:58pm Van in DC:

yes, wonderful voice indeed
Avatar 9:59pm Van in DC:

Irene, did you get any pics of the Sugar Ponies by chance?
Avatar 10:00pm Van in DC:

I love that: Not being pegged into a specific genre. Very admirable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, I did take a few pictures. Unfortunately I forgot to transfer them to Flickr. I'll post them tomorrow.
Avatar 10:05pm Van in DC:

Good reason to relisten then :)

Did someone report problems with the mp3 stream? I'm on the 128k stream using VLC on Windows7 and it seems OK for me.
Avatar 10:54pm Van in DC:

I'm literally playing air trumpet right now :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Kenzo and Ken! I think the MP3 stream problem must've been minor.

And Yeah Maynard. I did say I would play it last week. (HBD Van!)
