  3:26pm Dean:

"radio isn't as easy as it looks"

*That* is funny!
  3:28pm Brendan:

Its easy Kurt. Just remember a freeform show is a session where we can do what we want to.
Avatar 3:29pm Kurt Gottschalk:

how am i supposed to know what we want to do?!?
  3:32pm Brendan:

You'll know... Its a very Zen thing, so I gather.

  3:39pm Dean:

In addition to the comments and materials about developments in the law pertaining to climate change, I just started Obfuscation: A User's Guide for Privacy and Protest. That's all I'm saying.
  3:42pm Brendan:

All those in favor of Freebird kindly step through that door. All those in favor of Captain Of Her Heart please step through that other door. Quick lock those utility closets. There. Ive gotten rid of two non freeform listener segments -classic and yacht rock. Albeit in a dictatorial unfair manner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Michael 98145:

( DJ Sheila should be in Helsinki today )
Avatar 3:43pm V Priceless:

Mike Garson's bio and Chris O'Leary's astounding 'Rebel Rebel' - shout out to E. Funk D. for hipping me to that (Chris has been on his show a few times)...

Dictatorial isn't necessarily unfair.
Avatar 3:44pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 3:47pm Cecile:

There's a certain blue sound to it.
  3:48pm Dean:

Jason Moran on piano, nice. I played one of his old records last night. Featured Sam Rivers. Really swell.
Avatar 3:50pm Cecile:

Just the Facts and Pass the Bucket is one of the best albums of the 80s period.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Michael 98145:

@pinholga, cool. i can still hear Leary droning over the airwaves late at night.
Avatar 3:51pm Aye_Aye:

  4:17pm Murt:

I heard Schnittke is great at parties. He knows a lot of bird calls and can imitate a few old school celebs ala Fred Travelina!
Avatar 4:19pm Kurt Gottschalk:

murt, ha!
  4:22pm Clay:

Chalky! We missed you at the lake party. I wanted to see you do your famous Kentucky Cannonball off the dock.
Avatar 4:23pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i was cannonballing in lisboa, my friend.
Avatar 4:30pm Cecile:

this album is so underrated. I always thought it was their love letter to 70s New York.
Avatar 4:31pm Cecile:

I like all their "bad" 90s albums except for Goo and Jet Set. Those were bad.
Avatar 4:34pm Kurt Gottschalk:

maybe ny'ers don't judge sy so harshly. everyone i know who likes them loves this album.
Avatar 4:36pm Cecile:

that could be. In my part of the Midwest, a lot (not all) people seemed to be all "meh" until Murray Street came out. That's when I got off the train.
Avatar 4:38pm Wild Neil:

PEACE Kurt et al. How is everybody??
I never got into Sonic Youth back in the day, thought it was too...dissonant...my ear has changed though and am more open to it.
Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Nick Name:

Welcome home fella, nice to hear you an brycey boy back to back
Avatar 4:40pm Cecile:

This might be a good album to start with. Then go to things like Daydream Nation or Bad Moon Rising.
Avatar 4:41pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 4:41pm Cecile:

damn, I remember this live back in the day- such a beautiful light show, and so loud.
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

Evol is great too. And Sister. And I like 1000 Leaves and NY Ghosts and Confusion is Sex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Carmichael:

Heya Koit and youse guys dere. I'm reading John Lescroart's The 13th Juror, a crime/courtroom drama. I just finished Stories I Tell Myself, by Hunter Thompson's son Juan.
Avatar 4:43pm Cecile:

how is the Juan Thompson book?
Avatar 4:43pm danjoseph:

This is apparently "the lengthiest track to feature on any of Sonic Youth's studio albums" and a great one at that!
Avatar 4:43pm Cecile:

I agree, dan!
  4:46pm Brendan:

This was clearly written for the acoustic guitar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Carmichael:

@Cecile: Absolutely straight-forward and unblinking. Some ugly truths and a description HST's horrid final weekend on earth, but written in a way that's strangely endearing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm 1ke:

I used to play the full-length version of this on my college radio station if I was feeling lazy (and had it in mind for if I needed to take a long trip to the bathroom, but never had to use it for that... ah those golden days before that was an issue, ha ha).
  4:47pm rw:

Early Sonic Youth was too pretentious or something for me. Even though all my friends were into it. I really liked them better when they became more of a pop band (Goo). But for me this may be their Zenith. (Where it all comes together.)
Avatar 4:48pm Cecile:

I'm interested to read it. I've lived in the shadow of a larger-than-life father, and I'm interested in how other people cope.
Avatar 4:49pm Cecile:

I didn't like Goo much at all. But most everything around it, and after it to a point was great. And you're right Washing Machine hits all the right buttons.
  4:52pm Clay:

Murray Street made them accessible to me. Gateway drug. By the way ... Head East and Jackyl at Lake Okoboji in Iowa tonight. (sigh)
Avatar 4:56pm Chud:

Outstanding show so far, Kurt! It's a mix like this that keeps me listening to WFMU
Avatar 4:56pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanx, chud!
Avatar 4:56pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i might ruin it in hour three...
Avatar 4:58pm Chud:

  5:02pm Brendan:

It looks like the N is the capital letter there
Avatar 5:02pm Cecile:

I will, Nick! Thanks!

Michael 98145, are you saying CDs are better than life?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Carmichael:

Not my CD. It's making about a hundred bucks a year ...

Avatar 5:26pm Kurt Gottschalk:

no fado spots this time, unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm coelacanth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Michael 98145:

I don't recall ever hearing this Bowie track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Carmichael:

@slugluv: He was over the top great! I think he converted thousands of Buddy Guy fans right then and there.

I also forgot to mention that Rhonda Smith, Prince's longtime bass player, was in Beck's band. She was very impressive.
