Good afternoon Liz and Lizners

Cafeteria too crowded, can't squeeze in next to coworkers, arrgh. At least I have these killer sounds to keep me company while I inhale my lunch! Thanks Liz!
Avatar 12:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

unless your lunch is vegetable vindaloo with onion kulcha & mango lassi. Then I would endorse such snortage.
Avatar 12:56pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

also: 'ello FOKES.
Avatar 1:01pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Stupid work people interrupting my Liz time! GAH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm fred:

I know! I'm on vacation this week so free from obnoxious interiruptions
Avatar 1:05pm Cecile:

Cheapest place to eat in probably both Twin Cities downtowns is At Miguel's. $2.00 tomato and egg sub, $1.50 hummus and pita.
Avatar 1:05pm Cecile:

Damn it, it's cheaper and healthier than the vending machine...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm єki:

Not today, @RTD. But yesterday was onion kulcha (poor), soya methi malai (good), and veg samosas (excellent). Today was ricotta & veg lasagna. So tasty that, indeed, I may have snorted it a bit. (stomach rumbles)

Speaking of robot dance parties, this happened:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Liz Berg:

And yes, I am hoarding robot videos... send me your faves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm fred:

@Cecile: Wow, that's serious value there. I work in a touristy area, so prices tend to be outrageous. I just skip lunch
Avatar 1:13pm Cecile:

it does good business, but it should be mobbed. Fortunately, people are a little scared of the place. You know, Spanish and Lebanese food from a friendly father and son....people are weird in St. Paul, man.
Avatar 1:14pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

What Fred said. Super tourist prices here (2 blocks from white house) -- Hence we cried with joy when the food trucks happened...
Avatar 1:17pm Cecile:

the food truck craze has kind of stabilized. A couple of them have actually turned into restaurants.
Avatar 1:18pm Wild Neil:

PEACE Liz et al.
Avatar 1:19pm Chris M.:

Avatar 1:20pm Wild Neil:

We have a bunch of food trucks in Buffalo...I look forward to trying one....I think they should have BAR trucks so people could get a beer in the park....yeah, that would be workable, sure!
Avatar 1:21pm Wild Neil:

This reminds me of Suicide.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm fred:

Actually, food trucks around here are total hype-fueled rip-off jobs. Seriously, you can't get anything for less than €10. And that would be a salad. Brick and mortar stores are way cheaper
Avatar 1:21pm Wild Neil:

Mueran Humanos reminds me of Suicide...the band that is, not the act of...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Liz Berg:

Thanks @Chris M! Nice one, would also work as a great loop.
Avatar 1:22pm Wild Neil:

Fred-no offense but if Paris is like NYC I am willing to bet almost anything at any restaurant is $10 these days...or ten Euros....
  1:23pm el BO-Bo:

This sounds like Juana Molina on ceack. Me like it lots.
  1:23pm el BO-Bo:

Avatar 1:23pm Cecile:

that's too bad, Fred. I do think that they are not quite the discount they used to be, but there are still some good ones out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm fred:

@Neil: if you ever go to Paris, the trick is to go off a big street, the turn randomly once or twice. You'll find a nice, cheap place. The help does have to eat/drink somewhere
Avatar 1:27pm Cecile:

Can you still get good stuff at the open air markets? If I even ended up there, I would be buying a lot of sandwich/salad fixings there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Michael 98145:

@cecile, last time i was in the twin cities i was impressed by the large number of somali now living there. over here on the left coast immigration is largely from southeast asia. we are all immigrants from somewhere.
Avatar 1:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

$7 lunch is the low average at the trucks here. Which is marvelous compared to the fiscal violence @ pret & similar horrors in the area.
Avatar 1:32pm Cecile:

Oh, we have a lot of southeast Asian immigrants, too. For a long time, St. Paul had the most Hmong people outside of Laos/Cambodia/Vietnam.
Avatar 1:33pm Cecile:

but yes, immigration has increased. No longer am I told I "look ethnic".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm fred:

@Cecile: if you ever go to Paris, you should definitely get in touch with Pierre. He knows such things, and I don't. I was born in Paris, but never lived there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Devin B.:

Yay! Ed Schrader!
Avatar 1:35pm Cecile:

I will, Fred, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm joe:

I liked the idea of synthcore. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm fred:

I have never seen them, but trusted sources say Senyawa is a totally must-see act. I didn't see them because dance comes first, but it was a tough choice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Mike East:

We are providing backline for that Prospect Park gig. Biggest job we have in an otherwise very slow week.
On the thread of overpriced NYC food, my boss just bought me some mock duck drunken noodle for lunch. An hour late on the delivery, but I can't complain since I'm not paying for it. Now I can save my prosciutto sandwich for dinner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm fred:

Prince Rama! They are so wonderfully nice. Go see them, enjoy the music, and meet really inspiring people
  1:49pm βrian:

Are we going to Paris? Je suis prêt !
  1:52pm βrian:

We have a few restaurants in Madison that started out as food trucks. I like getting good food on the cheap, but I can do without the extruded polystyrene packaging, thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm common:

finally back from the office of human services! hey liz and people!
Avatar 1:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

YES. FMU field-trip to Paris. Never did make it to Bimbo Tower when I was there..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm fred:

@RTD: Bimbo Tower is long gone, to my lingering pain
Avatar 1:56pm βrian:

Can we sneak off for a little biking in the Auvergne?
Avatar 1:57pm Cecile:

you bikers can. I'll be scouring the thrift shops and record stores.
  1:58pm el BO-Bo:

And you survived! Glad to hear common.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm fred:

@βrian: if you plan to bike there, it will take some time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Michael 98145:

& i'll be enjoying a 2010 Saint-Émilion
Avatar 2:01pm βrian:

I can enjoy urban environments for the better part of a week, but then I need some countryside. I expect I'd hop a train to Clermont-Ferrand and go from there.
Avatar 2:03pm βrian:

@M98145: That sounds nice. I might add a nice Bandol to the list, and a nice Sancerre ....
Avatar 2:04pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm common:

thanks el BO-Bo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm fred:

@βrian: you should investigate France (the band) Hurdy-gurdy fronted awesomeness from that area
  2:06pm Max Tundra:

Greets from London - loving the show, LB! xoxox
Avatar 2:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

wah. I thought I had heard Bimbo Tower had died a warrior's death... But still.. FMU field-trip...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Liz Berg:

Hey Max Tundra, great to see you here and cheers! Keep making those hot jams!
Avatar 2:09pm βrian:

@fred: How do I find them? (A bit like googling "John Doe.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm fred:

@βrian: yeah, not easy: this seems to be updated as far as tour dates are concerned: www.lllliillll.fr
Avatar 2:12pm steve:

dam, i wanna FMU field trip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm fred:

Also Yann Gourdon has a bunch of other interesting projects, and is much more googleable
Avatar 2:13pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

I first heard Mexrrissey on Joe McGasko's show and loved it! I've read about Morrissey's huge appeal in Mexico. I should take a road trip to investigate!
  2:13pm Marc:

This is an awesome cover
Avatar 2:16pm Wild Neil:

@Fred-thanks! I will try that approach in Poland too, like Warszawa, it might work there, too!
Avatar 2:18pm Cecile:

you can also go to LA and witness it firsthand, I am told. They have a big Morrissey convention there every year.
  2:20pm el BO-Bo:

The guy singing name is Chetes. Good musician. He is basicly imitating a Spaniard who imitated Morrissey a thiusand years ago.
Avatar 2:20pm steve:

i read a magazine article about a latino Morrissey get together in SoCal, a lot of the crowd was super tough almost biker gang looking dudes who just love Moz...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Michael 98145:

@steve, wow. trying to wrap my brain around that.
Avatar 2:21pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

@steve - can you send me a link to that article??? I live in San Diego and would love to see that!
  2:22pm Max Tundra:

Woop! Will do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm fred:

@Neil: Better do this with a local. Some turns are really wrong. Even if you speak the language
  2:23pm el BO-Bo:

The Spaniards name is Mikel Erentxun.
Avatar 2:23pm steve:

this is years ago from an old issue of Big Brother Skateboard Mag. mid 2000s? i have the physical magazine at home, but just googled and all i could find was people discussing the article, no scans or links.
Avatar 2:25pm Cecile:

Here ya go.
  2:25pm el BO-Bo:

Morrissey and The Smiths are huge in Pain and Argentina too. I've met ppl from the SoCal Moz crowd and they are all cool but tough looking because they are "in pain." Like Moz.
  2:28pm el rock:

It's a little rockabilly and a little Spandau Ballet. Weird right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Michael 98145:

^ wow ...
Avatar 2:30pm Cecile:

I kind of wished they would have gotten someone besides Klosterman to write that piece.
Avatar 2:32pm Cecile:

I do love it when bands become popular in unusual places. Like Iced Earth in Greece, the Porcupine Tree in Italy or Depeche Mode in the US.
Avatar 2:33pm Cecile:

It throws everyone for a loop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Michael 98145:

or Porest on FMU. no, wait, that's not unusual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm fred:

@Cecile: Depeche Mode had a few great songs that shouldn't have become popular anywhere
Avatar 2:34pm Cecile:

And the article is out of date. Morrissey reportedly has had lots and lots of sex and likes it very much. hahhahaha
Avatar 2:37pm cee:

hell yeah thee oh sees. new one on the way!
Avatar 2:38pm Cecile:

hahahahhaha, fred.
  2:38pm bill:

Avatar 2:41pm Cecile:

can you play meat sweats?
Avatar 2:41pm steve:

i gotta hear this nacho man thing
Avatar 2:43pm steve:

wait i think i did
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Michael 98145:

i loved the suburban lawns ...
  2:44pm el BO-bO = djelrock:

DM was HUGE in Peru in the 80's n 90's I have no idea how they found out about them there.
Avatar 2:44pm Cecile:

it just takes one Smiths fan...
Avatar 2:45pm Cecile:

it's like aesthetic Zika.
Avatar 2:45pm Cecile:

but much more pleasant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Michael 98145:

"i'm hungry - want somethin to eat"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm common:

this is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Michael 98145:

( meat sweats deconstructed )
  2:48pm david from ks.:

@ Wild Neil : sorry with the no reply yesterday morn ! moved away from the screen !
Avatar 2:48pm Cecile:

is the reason why Avalanches records take so long is that they have to clear all these samples?
Avatar 2:48pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

@Ack! Work interrupting FMU time again! Geez! Thanks Cecile and Steve for all the Moz info! I will keep my eyes peeled for any subculturing down here.

Meanwhile, is it Sandwich Time? Liz you need to make a food themed cd if you haven't already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm fred:

I think Bryce has that market cornered. His playlist is like food talk, all the time
Avatar 2:53pm Cecile:

  2:56pm el BO-bO = djelrock:

This must be Topo Gigio's daddy. Cool!
Avatar 2:57pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

@Cecile - that is too funny! I think I had that conversation in my mind about DM many times!
Avatar 2:58pm Cecile:

the venture brothers have the most amazing weird musical references. And Foetus, I mean Jim Thirwell does their music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Michael 98145:

thank you, DJ Liz
  10:13pm tath:

hey liz, what was that cover of sugar sugar you talked over at 1:35?
