Howdy Scott and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Scott Williams:

Sup y'all?! Ooh, Riff's back, yo Riff! BriJet, missed you Saturday! Cecile, there are still a million people in that band, including people from Mercury Rev.
Avatar 3:17pm Wild Neil:

They should just legalize all drugs and stop this nonsense....I won't let my kid be an alcoholic, nor will I let him be a pothead nor a meth head because he will want to do other stuff....
Avatar 3:18pm Wild Neil:

This Slapp Happy is odd.
Avatar 3:18pm Cecile:

Scott, wow, I wonder what they all do.
Avatar 3:20pm Cecile:

ah! This is about Superman and Lois Lane!

Avatar 3:24pm Cecile:

this is so creepy. I just watched "snapped" last night about two teens that killed a friend pretty much just because.
Avatar 3:26pm Cecile:

Agh! this is taking me back to middle school!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Michael 98145:

i'm sorry
Avatar 3:28pm Cecile:

that's OK. I just hope you and your wife have a "middle school" plan for Lilah, Scott.
Avatar 3:30pm Cecile:

MIchael, I guess that made it an artistic success!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Scott Williams:

haha, BriJ. a dream is a wish your heart makes. anyone know if there's a country version of that song? I wanna hear Willie Nelson do it - is there anyone here who can make that happen?
Avatar 3:35pm Wild Neil:

Anybody see The River's Edge? Some big dude killed a girl for no particular reason...and nobody wanted to "narc on him". WTF!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm fred:

Good afternoon Scott and listeners. Where is Pierre?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Scott Williams:

@Cecile, your suspicion is solid, with top ace fool sitting in this chair here. Btw my Lila has no aitch
Avatar 3:37pm Cecile:

Oh, I'd seen it spelled different ways. Thanks for the correction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Scott Williams:

River's Edge is amazing, been meaning to rewatch it ever since. Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye, Crispin Glover definitely peaked there. And Dennis Hopper tied with Frank Booth, Blue Velvet out around the same time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm fred:

@Scott: I guess that puts extra incentive to your quest to quash her fool-murdering impulses
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Scott Williams:

PIERRE!!!! You dere?
Avatar 3:39pm Wild Neil:

@Scott-and what a great character name for Dennis Hopper:"Feck" like as "the opposite of feckless"....or he IS morality.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm fred:

I've heard a lot of Julee Cruise on the station lately (a lot meaning twice in a single week, WFMU standards, you know). Is that new Twin Peaks series a thing?
Avatar 3:43pm Cecile:

River's Edge is great. I remember one weekend where I watched both River's Edge and At Close Range. Crispin Glover had a field day with the scenery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Scott Williams:

@fred I have Julee Cruise pulled today! Yeah, it's a thing - for me & mines anyhoo
Avatar 3:44pm steve:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Scott Williams:

ahoy, Steve!
Avatar 3:46pm BriJet:

hi steve!
  3:46pm melinda:

River's Edge really was good, I agree
  3:46pm MONEYBAG$:

I saw River's Edge with my mom and a theater full of senior citizens on a group outing. Awkward.
Avatar 3:46pm steve:

heyyyoo. has anyone heard the new Avalanches in its entirety? Since I Left You is one of my all time favs and I still haven't listened to more than 2 tracks on the new one.
Avatar 3:46pm Wild Neil:

I want to get the soundtrack to The Rivers Edge....but I'm not sure if it has the haunting acoustic guitar sound on the opening credits!? Does anybody know? Here it is on discogs...www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm fred:

OK, what do I need to do to see that Twin Peaks thing, since it's one?
Avatar 3:49pm Wild Neil:

@moneybags-my friend Pete saw Repo Man with his mom and dad when he was 17...
Avatar 3:50pm Wild Neil:

Johnny Fever got fired for saying "booger" on the radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm fred:

@moneybag$: bear with me there: I saw Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's Mozart/Concert Arias in the old Paris opera house. They were booed. I was elated. This was very awkward. A few busfulls of retirees to a contemporary dance show, just because they thought Mozart would lull them to sleep. But those seats are not helping... a PR disaster that could have been avoided.
Avatar 3:56pm steve:

any idea who will fill in in Bosh's absence?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm fred:

This right here might be the highest accomplishment of the Florida Department of State
  4:00pm melinda:

I saw This is Spinal Tap in the theater with my mom when I was in 8th grade, which sounds awkward but I think she actually liked it, in spite of being older than the target demographic.
Avatar 4:01pm Cecile:

Avatar 4:02pm Chris from DC:

Like Floyd covering Sabbath. Clicky.
Avatar 4:03pm Cecile:

I remember my mother in law getting sucked into the Kentucky Fried Movie with my husband. I was upstairs reading, and heard this shriek of laughter from her I found out from my husband that it was when Big Jim ran through the wall while the couple were making out.
Avatar 4:03pm Cecile:

it's a super-funny scene, but not for everyone.
  4:04pm MONEYBAG$:

My mom took me to see This is Spinal Tap when I was 9 or 10, didn't get it at ALL. Then she offered to take me to see them in a small club and I was like no way. yeah, I regret that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Scott Williams:

I saw Kramer vs Kramer in the theater w. my mom when I was 11 -- I didn't get what she was trying to tell me, I was so distracted by seeing movie boobs for the 1st time
Avatar 4:04pm Wild Neil:

ORB is heavy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm fred:

@melinda: I guess the cucumber scene could have been awkward, or fun, depending on where you were with you mom at the time
Avatar 4:05pm Wild Neil:

@moneybag$-wow, think about it, you almost saw Spinal Tap as your first concert. That beats the hell out of my first concert-Kiss.
  4:06pm MONEYBAG$:

I know, instead it was Sammy Hagar and Dokken. Oh well.
  4:06pm Dean:

My mom took me to Blazing Saddles when it came out. I was probably 15.
Avatar 4:08pm Wild Neil:

King Crimson?! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Sorry its on EG records, however...they should be locked up as a criminal organization! those BASTARDS!
  4:08pm Polyus:

@Scott - this is exactly what that Orb song made me think of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Scott Williams:

Bosh will have several different fill-ins, including a never-before-heard show hosted by 2 very amazing ladies you don't yet know, which you should check out on 8/29. Not sure who is filling the other dates
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Scott Williams:

@Polyus, ME TOO!!

Man, I have neglected this album. Maybe because my vinyl looks like a cat coughed up a hairball on it in 1976
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm єki:

An Australian Orb? I can't imagine the good old UK Orb is happy about that.
Avatar 4:15pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm fred:

My first show was some old blues guy, probably a fake. My first "real" show was Depeche Mode (hence the finger quotes) black celebration tour. Best pasta ever after the show though (I went with an Italian friend). That I remember the food more than the show is telling
Avatar 4:15pm Cecile:

one of the linchpins of thrash metal right there.
Avatar 4:16pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

What's all this film chat? River's Edge is an infinite classic. Haven't seen it since late '80s. Glover + Hopper are as magical as cinema gets.
Avatar 4:17pm Chris from DC:

What Cecile said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Scott Williams:

my 1st show was this one right here (82, Diver Down tour)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm fred:

@RTD: any plan to come back to Paris?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Hughie Considine:

One of Feck's crucial lines was something like, "I ate so much pussy in those days my beard was like a glazed donut."
  4:19pm MONEYBAG$:

I had a Diver Down painter's cap
Avatar 4:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@fred: Always the desire to return, never the $$$... That Qwartz festival fronted some travel funds, which made it easier. Gotta get back...
  4:21pm MONEYBAG$:

The original human beat box?
Avatar 4:22pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

First show = Suicidal Tendencies at the 9:30 club (DC), 1985 i think... Terrifying yet thrilling scene for a green teenager..
  4:22pm melinda:

@fred: I think I was probably young enough that the cucumber scene was just funny.
Avatar 4:22pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Knew that had to be IDMTheftAble... goddamned genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm fred:

Julee Cruise!!!
Avatar 4:23pm steve:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Scott Williams:

@moneybags, holy shit, so did I! Thanks for reminding me. @Hughie - I remember that line, but I think it was from a shitty unlikely-buddy movie he did w. Kiefer Sutherland
Avatar 4:24pm litmuspie:

Mmmm nice
Avatar 4:25pm northguineahills:

Been loving hearing a lot of Julee Cruise as of late around here lately.
  4:28pm melinda:

I think that line was from River's Edge, I remember being grossed out.
Avatar 4:28pm Wild Neil:

Yeah, it was River's Edge.
Avatar 4:29pm ThatEdYouKnow:

Huge fan of David Lynch and Julee Cruise. Great song.

The Straight Story has the sweetest soundtrack.
Avatar 4:30pm Cecile:

I thought Islands was the one everyone hated from the old days.
Avatar 4:31pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

In my experience, Skot (IDM Theft Able) approves & endorses all spellings & all pronunciations of the name.
Avatar 4:31pm Wild Neil:

No, its LizardI think...Islands is awesome!
Avatar 4:31pm Wild Neil:

Avatar 4:32pm Wild Neil:

Earthbound is the live album that rocks, but was a lousy recording...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm fred:

@Polyus: a The World Spins/Falling segue would probably have left me in tears
Avatar 4:33pm Wild Neil:

Fripp called Lizard "unlistenable"...ultimateclassicrock.com...
Avatar 4:35pm Wild Neil:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Hughie Considine:

Fripp also said Jimi Hendrix didn't know how to hold a pick. He was human (Fripp was).
Avatar 4:41pm Wild Neil:

Robert Fripp is a great musician, but a very odd duck. He calls his sister rat bag.
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

Fripp isn't always the best judge of his own stuff. Frankly, I haven't really enjoyed anything since Discipline, although I've liked some Adrian Belew solo joints.
Avatar 4:43pm Wild Neil:

@Cecile-I have been diving back into the old Crimson more and more....the Discipline era stuff I overplayed...its genius but not my favorite era anymore....
Avatar 4:43pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm fred:

I'm really reaching Suicide overload. Scott, I know your liking them much predates Vega's death. Still, maybe consider a break?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Goatpuncher:

Oddly enough, I heard the Springsteen cover before I ever heard the original of that Suicide song. I... kinda like the Springsteen version more? It has a floaty quality. The original is kind of jaunty by comparison, esp. for a band called Suicide, ha ha. Both are interesting though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Hughie Considine:

@Scott, here's some key dialogue from "Flashback," the Hopper-Sutherland thing of which you speak:
John Buckner: When you were riding around on your Indian and wiping your ass with the American flag, my father was in Vietnam. He fought there, and he died there too. So don't tell me I like you, because I hate your fucking guts, okay?
Huey Walker: I'm sorry about your dad. (Buckner shrugs) Yeah, I wiped my ass with the flag, I did. Gave me a rash.
Avatar 4:45pm Wild Neil:

I'm taking vitamin B12 and feel ten years younger now...I am 49...really, all my aches and pains have disappeared and I get less tired doing stuff...
Avatar 4:46pm Chris from DC:

Avatar 4:46pm Cecile:

I respectfully disagree, Fred.

I'm polite, but I don't think more people do a good job covering Suicide. it was nice to hear the original and Vega's muttering asides.
Avatar 4:48pm Cecile:

damn, this is great.
Avatar 4:49pm steve:

whaaaaaaat... was just thinking about Basheeba (think i found this back in the MutantSounds/blog days?), glad it got a reish...
Avatar 4:50pm Cecile:

it's more Eno than Eno!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm fred:

@Cecile: I just need a break from hearing Suicide all the time. It's so weird on this station. Call me spoiled, but I enjoy a break from hearing a band or a song. Then I like it better.
Avatar 4:54pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

"It out-Enos Eno. Pray you, don't avoid it."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Michael 98145:

That dub break was nice
  4:56pm Dean:

In celebrity news, Dee Snider is a grandparent again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm fred:

@Cecile: Also, the main reason why I would ask that of Scott and none other is because I know he will play them again.
Avatar 5:04pm Cecile:

good point, fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Scott Williams:

@fred, damn straight I will! we'll leave the light on for you. also, @Goatpuncher, gotta call Neneh Cherry's version the standard-bearer, not Bruce's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Hughie Considine:

well this is surpassingly beautiful
  5:16pm el BO-Bo:

I cannot believe you played Angel Rada. INCREDIBLE. One of my favorite "electronic" artistsfrom Venezuela. Him with Adames
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm fred:

@Scott! Yeah, I can always turn it off, or rather, to my daunting backlog of archives I want to listen to. Are lifetimes in the pipeline for swag? I could use a few
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Scott Williams:

@el BO-Bo, I just learned about him now! thanks to this comp: www.thevinylfactory.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Michael 98145:

^ you can be assured none of that received airplay in this country at the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Scott Williams:

@fred, alas I feel ya.... the fmu archives I know I'll never hear are a steady source of anxiety
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Michael 98145:

liking this set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm fred:

@Scott: a source of anxiety for some, of bliss for others, and these populations overlap (probably more than anyone would call healthy)
  5:28pm el BO-Bo:

Nor in Venezuela Michael. Only a TV show called 'Synthesis' had music like this on a regular basis. Now its all politics :(
  5:29pm el BO-Bo:

Thanks for the HUGE tip Scott. I'm getting it ASAP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Scott Williams:

@fred, yep! if I start counting how many times p/day I say "gotta go back and check the archive"....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Scott Williams:

Yo Marcel! How was the Sunday part? Sorry i missed part 2! @Howard F, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm fred:

@Scott: I know that feeling. But then there's great radio on and it just piles on. Even worse/better with the alternate streams. Such a good problem to have...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Marcel M:

Woah woah... Rhyton doing songs... with.. vocals?! When did this happen? Heavy too. I dig.

It was fun! I had to leave fairly early, around 1pm. My van got stuck in Ken's driveway for like 45 mins lol. Was a nice chill day tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Marcel M:

Is this the only track on the album with vocals cuz its a cover, Scott? Or do they all have singing?
  5:40pm el BO-Bo:

This tune from Rhyton is excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm fred:

@Marcel: this would have amounted to almost a full 7SD show. Can you stretch it out a bit next time Any calls bored?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Scott Williams:

Check out their session on 8/24 w. John Allen - revealing of where they're at now, def a new direction. I think this is the only vocal track on the album tho - I remember another one on John's session (I think! I got to engineer it, but it got late)

Uggh, sux bout the driveway!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Marcel M:

@Fred: Truly, "driveway radio."
Avatar 5:45pm TDK60:

Late to the show but freakin' out along with A.M.T.T.M.P.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm fred:

BTW, Marcel had a mean couple of shows filling in. More must-hear backlog for your "I must go back and hear that" list". And he should get more fill-ins ASAP. And a regular slot shouldn't be out of sight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Marcel M:

@Scott: I def. will check that out, thanks.

Thank you Fred! I appreciate that. My next will be Sept. 1st for DJ Guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm fred:
