Options Brian Turner: Playlist from August 2, 2016 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar 3:41pm MenfussMike:

Avatar 3:44pm đ¢ ÞäŦ:

Avatar 3:54pm fred:

@đ¢ ÞäŦ: Care to share about that group? If anything is worth even trying to avoid WMFU, I want to hear it

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm chris:

Avatar 4:06pm MenfussMike:

i'd rather hear the version by the goat farmer
  4:07pm pierre:

Just checking in to send you some love from across the Atlantic ! It was a blast to have you over !
Avatar 4:09pm đ¢ ÞäŦ:

@fred: just getting started. I have a million tunes and we're hammering them out. When I'm working on my own tunes, I get distracted with other people's music so tend to avoid everything else. I'll let y'all know when shit starts going down. See?? BT's show is making me start to question my music. I better sign off.. By the way I'm using Svenonius's book Supernatural Strategies as a guide..
Avatar 4:10pm Brian Turner:

Yehhh hey Pierre! thanks for the hospitality to ya both xxxx
Avatar 4:11pm đ¢ ÞäŦ:

..also by the way, totally fell down this rabbit hole, Five Go Down To the Sea? medium.com...
Avatar 4:14pm PKNY:

Woah, gnarly Meters cover, feeling this Ragged Barracudas!
Avatar 4:21pm Chris from DC:

Wow, this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm misterpickles69:

This was done on a dare
Avatar 4:23pm Cecile:

this might be one of the few BS songs I actually like.
  4:23pm MudraGoddess:

Avatar 4:27pm Lopez:

Belated Welcome Home!
Avatar 4:29pm Chris from DC:

Whoa, Sumac
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Michael 98145:

just a mosquito
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Lewis:

This is really cool - it fits with the super hero schlock I have been watching in some weird way... kind of x-file-ish i suppose
Avatar 4:43pm fred:

With all that fall-speak, I have to brag: I scored "Perverted by language", a Boris EP, Paris' Guerilla Funk, and 2 Kid Koala CDs for a grand total of 9 euros yesterday. After-sales clearance can be better than the actual sales
Avatar 4:45pm Brian Turner:

Hey, hooray for cheap CDs!
Avatar 4:45pm Brian Turner:

HMV was full of complete Kevin Ayers, Budgie, and Edgar Broughton CD box sets for like 7.99
Avatar 4:46pm Brian Turner:

which made me happy, then sad
Avatar 4:46pm Brian Turner:

then happy again
Avatar 4:48pm fred:

I think it should make you happy: maybe someone will take a chance on it because it's cheap and break through into another world
Avatar 4:48pm Brian Turner:

Tis true, I guess the sad part was seeing the entire output of those people condensed into a budget line condensed nug haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm misterpickles69:

Some dream of having their stuff condensed into a budget line nug
Avatar 4:50pm fred:

Did you get to meet Coralie while in Paris?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

True that.
  4:51pm cats pinkytoe:

play some onion rings
  4:51pm Dean:

I'd love to get my hands on that Budgie box. Had the LPs eons ago, but purged them. (Happy, sad, happy, sad.) Then there are the box sets produced lately by/for Burning Shed, e.g., a 27-CD box of Pink Floyd material from 1965-72.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Michael 98145:

liking this ...
Avatar 4:53pm Brian Turner:

no Fred, I didnt.... was just there a couple dayz
Avatar 4:54pm Brian Turner:

Dean you shoulda been around for marathon 2007, I gave away a box of Wish You Were Here reissue, 25 of the same cd
Avatar 4:55pm fred:

The weird thing about that clearance sale is that I had would have gladly paid much more for these Kid Koala CDs. And here they were, 2 euros each
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Michael 98145:

sad
Avatar 4:58pm fred:

These were "carpal tunnel syndrome" and "your mom's favorite DJ"
  4:58pm Dean:

25 copies of the same recording?! So the winner could run an A/B/C/.../Y test? I'm no Floyd completist. In fact, I have two...no, three...of their records. The Mobile Fidelity DSOTM LP and two copies of Meddle on CD: an early issue and a remastered one. I might have appreciated one of those 25, though.

BTW, Burning Shed has also compiled, at relatively low cost, Hawkwind's early albums and, upcoming in September, the Charisma records.
Avatar 4:58pm Chris from DC:

Will definitely look into that O Paon.
Avatar 5:00pm fred:

Ô Paon sounded from Quebec to me. I wish I could see her/they live
Avatar 5:01pm Brian Turner:

Yep, Quebec, but relocated to Pacific NW.
Avatar 5:02pm fred:

Hmm, that doesn't improve the live odds, I'm afraid
Avatar 5:06pm Lopez:

Mordecai is fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Michael 98145:

@fred, opaon.bandcamp.com
Looks like they moved to Anacortes, WA
Avatar 5:13pm Cecile:

also, the fact the person who recorded under that name has passed away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Michael 98145:

what she said
Avatar 5:16pm Chris from DC:

Great show today.
Avatar 5:23pm TDK60:

This is fun.
Avatar 5:24pm fred:

This sucks so suckily. So talented and she's dead. So much music died with her. And I didn't even know her as a person so my selfish griping is so out of place
Avatar 5:24pm Cecile:

fantastic re-work
Avatar 5:25pm Cecile:

That's OK, Brian mentioned it, but it was kind of in passing. You can still want to see them live!
Avatar 5:26pm Wild Neil:

PEACE all. This show sounds AMAZING but I gotta leave work and go grocery shopping then eat dinner then re0rganize the garage with my Godfather. Will catch this on Podcast somedoay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Funhausen' means The Stooges were really Ray Harryhausen animated monsters. It kinda explains a lot...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Michael 98145:

the ayatollah of rock and rolla
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...from Funhouse's influence on Suicide to Suicide's influence on...
Avatar 5:34pm fred:

@RRN63: Both Funhouse and Suicide are good influences to have. Now where are the heirs of their heirs going to betray these into? That's what I want to hear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Michael 98145:

"Being true or real is of no concern to Funhausen, though if its hide was torn open and its insides spilled onto the dirt, stray and infected traces of some of the greatest rock & roll ever committed might be spied by the purified eye."
  5:40pm hendrix wolfbat:

Definitely adding this show to my archive of awesome fmu shows. It ruled!
Avatar 5:41pm fred:

Okkyung Lee can be amazing. But she can have the odd day off too. The amazing is far more likely. She's really good
  5:43pm Adrian in London:

Oh no, Genevieve/O Paon has died? I knew she'd been ill but hadn't heard she'd died. I met her a couple of times and interviewed her once and she was lovely. Her husband is Phil Elverum from Mount Eerie
Avatar 5:43pm Cecile:

It looks like she passed just a few weeks ago.
Avatar 5:46pm fred:
