Good morning everyone.

Joe, do you know if Lester is on that William Tyler track?

Dear Mister DJ, anything on the JNN (Joe News Network) about the condition of Joe Perry? I hope to hear he makes a full recovery.

How's that postal strike going? If it were to happen in the U.S., I'm afraid the GOP would call them terrorists and send in the drones.

@BiUK: sides now punching each other verbally in public, we'll see who lands the telling blow and triggers the locked-out/ walking out scenario. Low grade melodrama at best, though.

The Kore-eda movie I always recommend not to overlook is "Hana"(2006), which is actually a period samurai film that neatly turns all the conventions of that genre inside-out. A sweet, gentle, upbeat samurai vengeance film, if you can imagine that...

@P-90-I've been to a French Restaurant in a tiny desert town in California called Ridgecrest (population 30,000, summer temp up to 125F)...the owners won a green card lottery...the food was fantastic, but when in Poland I heard the Poles taught the French how to cook...the Poles are geniuses with cooking in my humble opinion and consistently under-rated...but French food is excellent too!   11:27am P-90:

[Geek Question]
May I ask what make/model guitar he is playing?
Avatar 11:28am Joe McG:

@Marcel: Actually, he's playing a very cheap electric that he picked up for $150 in Chicago at the start of his tour and that he put on the merch table at his last gig! The U.S. government makes it really hard for musicians to bring their instruments into the country for some bizarre reason.
Avatar 11:28am Joe McG:

@P-90: I think it was a Tesco or something like that.
Avatar 11:30am Marcel M:

@Joe: I was just messing around about the chopstick! Hah!

If he has an instrument with Brazilian rosewood, first of all, awesome, but second, it makes it difficult to travel around with for sure.
Avatar 11:31am Wild Neil:

There was a raid on a famous US guitar company for having exotic woods in stock....guys in swat gear and everything....nuts!
Avatar 11:32am Marcel M:

@Neil: Yep, at Gibson. illegally sourced ebony and rosewood from Madagascar.
Avatar 11:33am Cecile:

see, that's no good. It's like smuggling exotic animals.
Avatar 11:34am Marcel M:

went against CITES rules. Internationally laws are very confusing and frustrating for many people trying to sell internationally. In Europe, they can and will confiscate a vintage guitar with a braz board even if you've had it for 20 years or whatever if you list on Ebay.
Avatar 11:34am Marcel M:

Yeah it was very dumb on their part. And they got nailed.
Avatar 11:35am Cecile:

well, I'm not condoning it, but I'm sure for a luthier the beauty of the wood and the possibility of working with it outweighed common sense.
Avatar 11:36am Wild Neil:

Would eucalyptus be a good guitar wood? I have a patio table made from responsibly sourced plantation raised Eucalyptus...it really pretty but not terribly DENSE. The Boardwalk in Atlantic City is made from this beautiful Ipe wood that looks like dark chocolate...
Avatar 11:36am Marcel M:

So the wood Gibson took was not particularly valuable. Was just sourced illegally.
Avatar 11:37am Cecile:

dunno. talk to your friendly neighborhood luthier. They'll know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am common:

it would be easy to smash, and you could put wings on it and fly it during breaks.

@Common-I wonder if it would sound like a head-cold so muffled and deadened! Coney Island boardwalk is Ipe too...lasted 25 years!

aside, and related to wood: i saw a glamourous photo of ritzy bldgs - and one had PETRIFIED WOOD STAIRS!
  11:46am P-90:

"Teiscp El Ray"? Japanese, inexpensive but he sounds so good on it. He probably chose to sell it off at the end of the tour because bringing it back home would have been a hassle too. What a shame!

The Brazilian rosewood Gibson got raided for was from "legit" sources like stumps and recycled paneling, but they didn't have all the proper documentation on file and the FBI decided there had to be an investigation. They were basically looking to make an example of (well-known) Gibson, to show they were serious about these importation restrictions on endangered woods.

@herb.nyc: Petrified wood sounds like a nicer set of stairs than a pile of glass. Glass stairs creep me out.

Bravo, Joe. Wonderful intro to C. Joynes for a newbie.
  11:49am P-90:

typo at start of previous post: "Teisco Del Rey" is the Japanese maker that came to mind when Joe wrote "Tesco or something."

@Sem: Really happy you enjoyed it!

I helped build a deck out of ipe once. We went through a lot of saw blades and broke a lot of screws. Dense stuff.

this is great too.

In a couple of weeks, the full set should be up on the FMA. I cut three songs for space, so the full set will be available there.

Leith Hill is the highest point in southern England. Useless fact No.235.
Avatar 11:54am Wild Neil:

@P-90-Yeah, that sounds more like it...Gibson got screwed for a medium-sized clerical error...and got treated like a hostage situation.
Regarding the balsa wood guitar, it could be a shitty guitar...and do a duet with shitty flute!
@Brian-Was the Ipe like oak, or even harder?
  11:54am P-90:

Hell of a show today, with Trouble and Mr. Joynes, who is terrific but new to me. Top marks, @Joe McG!
