Avatar 2:25pm Brian in UK:

Hello Bill, only chance to say that liveish.

I was asked what I would like for a birthday present and suggested a DVD of early Popeye cartoons. Looks like the only ones available are on Region 1. Me, I'm a Region 2 kind of guy. Poor show. Not yours ofcourse, Bill that is always exemplary.
Avatar 3:35pm geezerette:

@Brian in UK: www.youtube.com...
Quite a few early Popeyes on Youtube. Not the same as having them, but it's something at least. Happy Birthday!
Avatar 3:36pm geezerette:

Hi Bill, looking forward to today's fill in!
Avatar 5:58pm Sem Chumbo:

What's the decorator for this studio use for inspiration, fresh adrenal gland? Good God.
Hiya, Bill. Thought I'd get a good seat right up front, you know, nose hair close...
  7:01pm V Priceless:

Heya Bill! Glad to ketchup with ya live!
Avatar 7:05pm Sem Chumbo:

Diggin' this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Doug Schulkind:

Thus spoke Zzzzzzzerothustra! Good evening, Bill and all drummerstreamers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm melinda:

hi bill!
Avatar 7:09pm Bill Mac:

Popeye cartoons Brian? The ones that were done in the 40s were fairly well done, but the ones done when we were growing up were pretty violent from what I remember. I gotsta recheck them out.
Avatar 7:10pm coelacanth:

good evening Bill and global zzzzzzeroes
Avatar 7:10pm Bill Mac:

Evening all! It's a beaut!
Avatar 7:12pm Bill Mac:

Oh yeah, Hippy barthday Bri!
Avatar 7:14pm coelacanth:

where was Mayuko? i was looking for her on saturday, as rumour directed. when she didn't appear over the weekend i thought she'd still be on today.
Avatar 7:15pm Bill Mac:

She dropped me a line this evening stating how weird it was to be home on Monday night... She'll be starting her new time slot this Saturday at noon
  7:16pm P-90:

Happy Birthday Brian. You should be able to find some of the original Fleisher Studios Popeyes online...
Avatar 7:17pm Bill Mac:

  7:17pm P-90:

Oh, was Mayuko scheduled to be off tonight? ...was wondering
  7:17pm V Priceless:

yes, cheers Brian!
Avatar 7:18pm Sem Chumbo:

Hearing something like this Max Goldt and Tiger Lilies just seems like an interesting fork in the same road.
Avatar 7:18pm coelacanth:

Thanks Bill. just wonderin'. i thought i could catch 1/2 an hour of it.
-Happy Birthday Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Doug Schulkind:

Mayuko's show is moving to Saturdays, 12:00 - 2:00pm. Her new time begins this week.
Avatar 7:20pm Bill Mac:

She's officially moved to Saturdays I believe - oh yeah, I think Brian might collect these b-day wishes later as he's more than likely napping for a full day of work at the moment...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Doug Schulkind:

Brian! May the birthday bluebird of happiness fly up your nose!
Avatar 7:21pm Sem Chumbo:

Black is the Color of my Tuareg Loves Hair.
Avatar 7:21pm coelacanth:

-i guess if you've got to have a bird fly up your nose....
Avatar 7:22pm geezerette:

Hey Bill! There's a lot of early Fleischer Popeye on Youtube. Much funnier than later color ones because the early ones are all about sight gags.
Avatar 7:23pm geezerette:

Howdy people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm melinda:

hi geeze!
Avatar 7:24pm coelacanth:

howdy g!
  7:24pm V Priceless:

that Nina track was very Air-like....did they do the remix?
Avatar 7:24pm geezerette:

Hey melinda!

Yo coel!
  7:25pm P-90:

Mayuko's gonna be on during Michael Shelley and Rex? Shit.
--I know, I know, that's what archives are for...
Avatar 7:25pm coelacanth:

(black is the color of my turgid love's hair.)
Avatar 7:26pm Sem Chumbo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Doug Schulkind:

Sorry about the programming conflict. Mayuko needed to move her broadcast time due to work.
Avatar 7:28pm coelacanth:

for me it just means i'll have a better excuse for not getting out of the house 'till 2 on saturdays.
  7:31pm P-90:

I figured she probably needed to move to the weekend because of work...
Avatar 7:34pm coelacanth:

'sorry P-90. for me it's good, because i rarely get to hear all of or any of play vertigo as it happens.
Avatar 7:36pm Sem Chumbo:

Most excellent music.
  7:36pm P-90:

Hey, that's the way it goes. Drummer Steam shows are always up "against" something on the main stream. But again, that's why the archives are such a great tool.
Avatar 7:38pm Mayuko:

Thank you Bill! and hello!!!!! got late but here!
  7:40pm P-90:

The Pop-Up still read "Play Vertigo" tonight, So I was wondering if she'd moved or not... No Biggie.
  7:40pm P-90:

Speak of The Devil!
7:41pm Parq, who's not at his puter and can't remember h:

Present. In the kitchen but present.
  7:42pm P-90:

Hi Mayuko!
Avatar 7:42pm Mayuko:

ah, I missed Max Goldt?! sob!
Avatar 7:42pm coelacanth:

i wish Gary needed to move to friday at 6, or sunday morning, or.....
wednesday's a real conundrum for me. Pseu Braun at 7 and Fringe Factory at 8. -always a sacrifice one way or another.
...could the world please revolve around me?
Avatar 7:42pm Sem Chumbo:

22 Hysterical miniatures Largely a speech plate
Avatar 7:43pm coelacanth:

hi Mayuko! were you ears itching?
Avatar 7:44pm coelacanth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm melinda:

Yeah, coel, Wednesdays bring tough choices.
Avatar 7:47pm Mayuko:

Hi coelacanth! yah it feels strange - but looking forward to the new slot. Doug thank you for the announcement!
  7:47pm P-90:

Then there's also the Nazario/Duane conundrum
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm Doug Schulkind:

I will get to hear Play Vertigo a whole lot more on Saturdays than I was able to on Mondays. So, um, yay.
Avatar 7:54pm coelacanth:

P-90 i'm usually working at that time anyway so i don't have the decision to make. sometimes though.
...it's usually an easy choice between Tony & Liz; Charlie & Diane; Uncle Michael & Bryce - because their programs are so different from each-other it's easy to determine by what mood i'm in.
Avatar 7:54pm Sem Chumbo:

A set full of mighty grooves tickles the paradiddles.
Avatar 7:56pm Bill Mac:

That's right Sem Chumbo, just dig it!
Avatar 7:58pm Mayuko:

Hello P-90! Reading all the comments here now - I guess you get to hear higher % of people screaming and banging random things on my side so I'd be happy to have you tune in when you're in that kind of mood, haha.
Avatar 7:59pm Mayuko:

& Happy Birthday Brian in UK!
Avatar 8:01pm coelacanth:

(it slipped my mind that DO radio is now on sunday am; so sundays are set. that comment does not represent accurately! ...carry on.)
Avatar 8:05pm Mayuko:

Tricky <3
Avatar 8:07pm Sem Chumbo:

Been good fun, Bill. Catch you, and mostly everyone here, a little further down the road:-D.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm melinda:

Ta, Sem.
Avatar 8:09pm Bill Mac:

That's right Sem, stay on the sunny side. See you soon
  8:10pm P-90:

Goodnight, Sem.
Avatar 8:11pm coelacanth:

i drove a taxi for a bit. i had that Tricky album in once when i picked up 4 guys one evening. they happened to get in just as a part of a particular song played and one of them immediately began persecuting me based on what he decided was my sexual preference, then brought it into racial slurs. i had to stop the car and tell the big guy, who i let sit in front, that if he doesn't shut his racist asshole friend up they've all got to get out now.
...i don't miss driving a taxi.
Avatar 8:11pm coelacanth:

ciao, Sem.
Avatar 8:14pm Bill Mac:

@CC I hope that it ended well for you...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm melinda:

I like this instrumental interpretation.
Avatar 8:17pm Bill Mac:

Just tryna see what sticks Melinda
Avatar 8:18pm coelacanth:

ha! yeah, all 3 of the others told him to shut the hell up!
Avatar 8:20pm Mayuko:

oh I am glad that at least other three owned some brain, coelacanth. that's really crazy but it must be inevitable to meet a bunch of crazy people if you're taxi driver!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm melinda:

My late husband drove taxi for a while before I knew him and reported similar things. That's one job I couldn't do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm melinda:

I also don't like driving very much, so there's that.
Avatar 8:24pm coelacanth:

Mayuko, he wasn't the worst person i ever picked up!
it was an interesting experience and i'm glad i did it. i just wish i'd owned a good recording device at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm melinda:

go Dusty!
Avatar 8:34pm coelacanth:

yeh this is Great!
...melinda @8:23 as Mayuko said it must be inevitable. -someone who i worked with moved on to newburgh ny to make much more money. 'said he could get me a gig there. i'd have to carry a (loaded) gun though. company policy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm melinda:

You turned down an opportunity for advancement?!
Avatar 8:37pm coelacanth:

silly me!
  8:37pm V Priceless:

hey fish! Newburgh is rough..great rock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm melinda:

When Little Richard was on I was in the other room not watching the playlist and thought whoever this is, she can really belt it out! Silly me, not recognizing an icon. But it's kind of fun when that happens.
  8:39pm V Priceless:

...and roll micro brew pub there, though. Dozens of brews on tap and heavy 60s/70s vibe.
Avatar 8:41pm coelacanth:

yes. we had to get the money up front when we went to newburgh.

...weird round world, Bill. you made a Bowie connection to your Tricky story. i was offered a job to be personal driver for one of Bowie's guitarists. (unfortunately i got that offer the day after the beginning of a 3-year battle disputing a dwi.)
Avatar 8:42pm coelacanth:

V, i know there are good areas of newburgh, but i've never hung out there.
Avatar 8:43pm Bill Mac:

Hey I met Mick Ronson when he was touring with Ian Hunter in the early 90s
  8:45pm V Priceless:

jealous I am, Bill
Avatar 8:47pm Bill Mac:

I said something stupid to him as well, like "you're looking fit". Two years later he was gone.
Avatar 8:48pm coelacanth:

jeez. he was an icon. (an undersung icon?)
Avatar 8:49pm geezerette:

Rod McKuen, YUCK! :c{
  8:49pm V Priceless:

For the most part, he always looked good. No harm/foul there. : )
Avatar 8:50pm geezerette:

coel, wouldn't you say he was a human Keane painting? I just did!
Avatar 8:50pm Bill Mac:

@Geezerette: Hah, we have a winner!
Avatar 8:51pm geezerette:

  8:52pm V Priceless:

Never thought of that, but I get it.
Avatar 8:54pm coelacanth:

haha! i wasn't familiar with that painter...or i didn't know i was.
...so - in a good way, right?!
  8:55pm V Priceless:

That was fast! Thanks, Bill! Cheers peeps!
Avatar 8:55pm geezerette:

She's singing Taps? hahaha!
Avatar 8:55pm coelacanth:

Avatar 8:56pm Bill Mac:

Short n Sweet Boys & Girls, and yeah she is singing Taps!!! See you are soon pleasant dreams!!!
Avatar 8:56pm coelacanth:

Avatar 8:57pm geezerette:

coel, I meant McKuen, not Ronson!

Thanks Bill!
  8:57pm V Priceless:

great one, fish!
Avatar 8:59pm geezerette:

coel,hilarious! :)
Avatar 8:59pm Mayuko:

Thank you Bill!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm melinda:

Thanks Bill!
  8:59pm V Priceless:

Avatar 8:59pm coelacanth:

that's funny g! i thought you meant that first, but i thought the Ronson-Keane connection was fairly complimentary, so i went with it!
Avatar 9:00pm coelacanth:

Thanks Bill!
later on y'all!
Avatar 12:23pm Brian in UK:

Killer third set, Bill. Thanks all for birthday wishes, not until Saturday but I will take them anyoldway.
That first Love album still sounds good.
