Avatar 3:10pm Wild Neil:

Jazz is amazing...it is so full of a WIDE variety of musics..such as Insect Trust...that it always blows my mind. Last week I officially took off my Prog Rock blinders and now am exploring JAZZ...which is too cool beyond words I can write here. Wow. All art aspires to the condition of music somebody once said (heard that at Cooper Union)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I wonder, how much do echo technicians charge to add echos to a place of residence? I'd enjoy having a couple around.
  3:12pm Dean:

If I had it all to do over again, I'd work in architectural acoustics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm rrg:

I'd work in audio restoration.
Avatar 3:15pm Sem Chumbo:

I hear there's big money in echolalia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Michael 98145:

not to mention echolocation
  3:17pm Dean:

Hell, yeah, that, too! I think of Ward Marston, whose work remastering old vocal recitals is amazing. And the folks at Berkeley who have managed to digitize unique and extremely fragile recordings (on wax, etc.) without injuring the originals.

Nice touch, Sem, the "I hear..." part.
Avatar 3:19pm Wild Neil:

I think it would be super-cool to watch an echo technician work....tools of the trade and experience at play. wow...very unusual...right now I am trying to help people invent new stuff and bring it to market...this is good music for that....I REALLY need to get a turntable to rescue old Jazz records for my collection...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm rrg:

Yes, Dean, I'm thinking particularly about the work of Carl Haber and his colleagues at LBL.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Internet search shows that echorelocation is a moving company in Anchorage, Alaska.
Avatar 3:20pm Sem Chumbo:

I hear what you're saying, Dean.
  3:21pm Dean:

Yup, rrg, me, too.

You hear what I'm saying, Sem? What I'm saying?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm rrg:

I am second to none in my wish not to spend money needlessly, but rather than try to digitize my own vinyl, I would send it to a service (ReclaimMedia in Seattle is a good one) to digitize it for me.
  3:24pm Dean:

Here's something about Marston: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/27/arts/music/a-master-of-making-old-tunes-new-again.html Figures. I never knew he played for a living, too.

When was the last time you heard of 30+ people hospitalized for smoking weed? They just just legalize pot already. It would solve so many problems.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Irwin:

Karen Mantler playing live next Saturday night 7/16 at the Owl Music Parlor, Brooklyn, 10pm, with a band.
  4:02pm Dean:

Let the library jokes commence. I'll start with an adaptation from Steven Wright: "“I went to a library and asked the librarian, 'Where’s the self-help section?' She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.”

And Rodney Dangerfield: "I came from a real tough neighborhood. In the library the sign says, SHUT THE F..K UP!"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Q: What do librarians use for bait when they go fishing?
A: Bookworms!
  4:14pm Dean:

I tell this too frequently, but here's a bumper sticker I've never seen:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm rrg:

The Internet has many of these. I don't know why I feel obliged to contribute, but:

A patron asked the librarian why Tales of Robin Hood had been withdrawn from the collection. The librarian replied, "Too much Saxon violence."
  4:18pm Librarian:

What's the difference between a pizza and a librarian? A pizza can feed a family of four.
Avatar 4:20pm Wild Neil:

My ex-wife is a technical librarian. I have no jokes.
  4:21pm Dean:

The Robin Joke reminds me of a real-life story from a public library where I worked long ago, when Madonna's scandalous book of photographs was published. To collect or not? Meanwhile, browse the adult fiction shelves, where you'll find Philip Roth's marvelously filthy "Sabbath's Theater," about which nobody makes a peep!

You can say that again, Librarian.

C'mon, Neil. She has to have told you one or two about non-filing indicators!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Irwin:

Richard Farina wrote the tune.

This song, Michael. "Morgan the Pirate."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Uncle Michael:

I like Ian Matthews.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Irwin:

Richard Thompson's on the album, but there's three guitarists credited. Not sure if he plays on this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm rrg:

Gerry Conway was also with Fotheringay. And he played for a while with Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
Avatar 4:48pm Joe McG:

Song's allegedly about Bob Dylan!
  4:48pm Dean:

Is it Ian or Iain or either or both?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm rrg:

There's also a version of this song by Richard and Mimi Fariña (natch).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm rrg:

It's either Ian or Iain depending on how Irish you're feeling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Irwin:

Ian McDonald, then Ian Matthews, than Iain. I couldn't keep up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm rrg:

I like to say "natch" because Stan Lee always said it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm rrg:

Probably still does.
Avatar 4:50pm βrian:

He sounds a little like Sixto Rodriguez.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm rrg:

Yeah, song about Bob Dylan. A little bit of envy there, wouldn't you say?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Carmichael:

  5:06pm Dean:

Maybe Irwin should replace it with its mirror image. See above.

It was a meta-comment about there not yet being a 100th comment, which, it so happened, the meta-comment became.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm rrg:

  5:37pm Dean:

Dang. I was at my mother's in LA a few weeks ago. I intended to grab her copy of this, but forgot! Instead, I picked up her (really my) Carpenters' Close to You and Mrs. Miller's Greatest Hits.
  5:40pm berbo:

I think I've got the entire Carpenters catalog in my basement, including both Christmas albums (on cassette!). That gives me a warm feeling.
  5:49pm Dean:

Long ago, I grabbed my parents' Burt Bacharach and Jonathan & Darlene Edwards records. Prized possessions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Carmichael:

@Dean: ditto on the Burt and Jonathan & Darlene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm rrg:

Thanks for the program. G'night, all.
  5:58pm Dean:

I like to think that Bacharach's recording of his "Mexican Divorce" is the greatest pop song of all time. Hard sometimes to think of anything better. And Ry Cooder's version doesn't come close.
  6:00pm P-90:

Thanks, Irwin. See you next week for some Joe.
