I saw Petty's album in the BX while shopping, not hearing anything "western". The Wall also came out then, and The Records 1st (and only?) album. Quite an era. Oh, also Alan Parsons' "Eve".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am
DJ PB:

@Carmichael - The Records have 3 LPs, I believe. The first two are both great! (Don't have the third.)
  12:45am

The "Starry Eyes" one came out back then, 79-80. I loved it. And being Irish, I hold a place in my heart for Horslips.

@JakeGould The other DJs all knew I was doing this show and were seeking to undermine me! (Not really)

i haven't noticed that, but thin lizzy is a frequent play on the jukebox at the pub.

this band is criminally overlooked.
  1:13am
Todd:

So I think I'm the target demographic DAD you are aiming at. When I was in middle school, 1972 there was a teen hard rock band that played an after school gig at my school-they played Fire and Water-I heard this cover version before i even heard free doing it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am
coelacanth:

re: steppenwolf live - most of it's legit, but that track and 1-2 others were added by the label to make up a double album. i don't think they added audience sounds; but arranged the studio cuts in-between live ones, effectively dubbing in crowd sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am
DJ PB:

@coelacanth - Aerosmith, probably not quite as overlooked

@Todd - I don't know if you're quite in the boomer demo. Gen X forever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am

well, i guess i'm the dadrock demographic; but as far as i know i'm not a dad.

Iron City Houserockers! One of Stephen King's favorite bands. Browsville Station, too. Great stuff, Paul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am
coelacanth:

(well, if we need more useless information - "Love it to Death" was technically on "straight" records - a subdivision of warner created by Frank Zappa.)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am
DJ PB:

@coelacanth - Hmmm... didn't see Straight on the LP sleeve. Are you sure it wasn't the first two Alice LPs on Straight before the switched to WB?
  2:21am
Clay Pigeon:

Concerning Love It To Death ---- Wiki sez: "The original album cover featured Cooper posed with his thumb protruding so it appeared to be his penis; Warner Bros. soon replaced it with a censored version."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am
coelacanth:

the way i remember it (and i don't have the record here or i'd look) is it's a green warner bros. label on the record with "straight" in a "thought bubble" coming from where it says "warner"...and something like that on the cover as well. (?)

Violet in Cali:

I wish I was in a van listening to this

Clay, i think i have my older brother's copy, which he bought soon after it's release. i have to check for that protrusion!

Always check for protrusions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am

@Violet I think we can change "Dad Rock" to the non-sexist "Van Rock."
  2:26am
Violet in Cali:

@PB I agree!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am

here's another oft-overlooked excellent album. Crosby's still good too...slightly bland maybe, but not like most of his contemporaries.
