Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am DJ PB:

Still just getting settled in here. Thanks everybody for listening and commenting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28am coelacanth:

i Love this album...and i was just listening to some vintage who, so - perfect...
  12:29am david from ks.:

,,, thought itwas McCartney for a beginin` min. !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am coelacanth:

oh, i meant "who came first"...the versions are similar though.
  12:34am Carmichael:

I was stationed in Korea when this album came out.
  12:35am Carmichael:

Petty, I mean.
  12:35am SeanG:

love it
  12:40am Carmichael:

I saw Petty's album in the BX while shopping, not hearing anything "western". The Wall also came out then, and The Records 1st (and only?) album. Quite an era. Oh, also Alan Parsons' "Eve".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am DJ PB:

@Carmichael - The Records have 3 LPs, I believe. The first two are both great! (Don't have the third.)
  12:45am Carmichael:

The "Starry Eyes" one came out back then, 79-80. I loved it. And being Irish, I hold a place in my heart for Horslips.
  12:47am Carmichael:

  12:48am Aileen:

Lizzy! [heart emoji times a million]
  12:48am Carmichael:

Yer feckin' aces, Paul!!
  12:50am rich:

that twin guitar attack is so hitting the spot
  12:50am JakeGould:

A lot of Thin Lizzy on playlists this week on WFMU it seems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am DJ PB:

@JakeGould The other DJs all knew I was doing this show and were seeking to undermine me! (Not really)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am coelacanth:

i haven't noticed that, but thin lizzy is a frequent play on the jukebox at the pub.
  12:58am Aileen:

their undermining is our gain
  12:58am JakeGould:

A conspiracy is afoot!
  1:00am ?:

Ghost Dog!

Atom Heart Mother ? Doc at The Radar Station ? Yessongs ?
  1:12am david from ks.:

,,,,zoundz good!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am coelacanth:

this band is criminally overlooked.
  1:13am Todd:

So I think I'm the target demographic DAD you are aiming at. When I was in middle school, 1972 there was a teen hard rock band that played an after school gig at my school-they played Fire and Water-I heard this cover version before i even heard free doing it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am coelacanth:

re: steppenwolf live - most of it's legit, but that track and 1-2 others were added by the label to make up a double album. i don't think they added audience sounds; but arranged the studio cuts in-between live ones, effectively dubbing in crowd sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am DJ PB:

@coelacanth - Aerosmith, probably not quite as overlooked

@Todd - I don't know if you're quite in the boomer demo. Gen X forever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am coelacanth:

well, i guess i'm the dadrock demographic; but as far as i know i'm not a dad.
  1:25am johnk77:

some pix and text on a joe walsh band

the measles
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26am DJ PB:

@coelacanth - If you long lost son wants to call in, I'll put him on the air and we'll have a heartwarming radio moment!
  1:27am Violet in Cali:

That would be so cute!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am coelacanth:

that should be fun, Paul.
  1:37am Violet in Cali:

*air guitar*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am coelacanth:

  1:46am david from ks.:

,,,I have 3 Latin vegan offspring which would slant that dad rock thing to tres acordes de nuestro padres ! Just a thought still on that subject !
  1:58am JakeGould:

I have a name for this kind of rock: “Mansplaining Rock!”

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am DJ PB:

@JakeGould - Lindsay Buckingham definitely doing some mansplaining on this track!
  2:06am Violet in Cali:

He was a babe though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am coelacanth:

nantucket sleighride.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am joeray:

Your facts about the Move's Split Ends (US) was Message in the Country (UK) was correct.
  2:12am Violet in Cali:

WFMU: We get the facts right
  2:14am Clay Pigeon:

Iron City Houserockers! One of Stephen King's favorite bands. Browsville Station, too. Great stuff, Paul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am coelacanth:

(well, if we need more useless information - "Love it to Death" was technically on "straight" records - a subdivision of warner created by Frank Zappa.)
  2:15am Violet in Cali:

(I love your "useless" information)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am coelacanth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am joeray:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am coelacanth:

i Love this!
  2:19am Clay Pigeon:

Garth Brooks did a nice version of Hard Luck Woman. Here he is with Kiss live. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JinITWtW06U
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am DJ PB:

@coelacanth - Hmmm... didn't see Straight on the LP sleeve. Are you sure it wasn't the first two Alice LPs on Straight before the switched to WB?
  2:21am Clay Pigeon:

Concerning Love It To Death ---- Wiki sez: "The original album cover featured Cooper posed with his thumb protruding so it appeared to be his penis; Warner Bros. soon replaced it with a censored version."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am coelacanth:

the way i remember it (and i don't have the record here or i'd look) is it's a green warner bros. label on the record with "straight" in a "thought bubble" coming from where it says "warner"...and something like that on the cover as well. (?)
  2:23am Violet in Cali:

I wish I was in a van listening to this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am joeray:

"Show me your thumb if you're dumb!"
  2:24am Clay Pigeon:

Reprise was Sinatra's --- Straight was Zappas label. They were on Straight through Love It To Death.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am coelacanth:

Clay, i think i have my older brother's copy, which he bought soon after it's release. i have to check for that protrusion!
  2:25am Violet in Cali:

Always check for protrusions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am DJ PB:

@Violet I think we can change "Dad Rock" to the non-sexist "Van Rock."
  2:26am Violet in Cali:

@PB I agree!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am coelacanth:

here's another oft-overlooked excellent album. Crosby's still good too...slightly bland maybe, but not like most of his contemporaries.
Avatar 2:29am newberry:

Loving these tracks; thanks Paul!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am joeray:

Yeah, great show this morning, Paul!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am coelacanth:

okay i'm off, hopefully to something like sleep.
Thanks Paul. 'twas Lovely! (...and yes - "van rock" will do!)
ciao peeps.
  2:33am Violet in Cali:

Bye Canthy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am DJ PB:

@coelacanth - It was the Croz that put you to sleep, wasn't?!?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am joeray:

I just watched a short documentary today on the Making of Ram that's on YouTube.
  2:44am Violet in Cali:

I love Love
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53am joeray:

The Neil Young and Creedence tracks are a good segue to The Avant Ghetto!
  2:58am rw:

Oh man. Nice show. Unfortunately only caught the last 15 min.
  2:58am JakeGould:

Thanks Paul!
  2:59am rw:

Yes. Thanks!!
