ScottC:
Sundays won't be the same and I mean that Gaylord! Geeez why does stuff like this happen????
@ScottC: I appreciate the sentiment, but if it's any consolation I do plan on returning soon. And there are the archives, if you're into that. But yes, thanks for the kind words.
for those who don't know:
Maria Bethânia is Caetano Veloso Bethânia's sister.
I wonder what he is blaming her for actually.
Collaborating with the regime?
W/ the Half Century Anniversaries of everything coming up - 'Pet Sounds' & next year 'Forever Changes' - & all of it; thinking much of the greatest early concept albums &tc. ...this is like as great a construction as those definitive Suites (granted constructed of the extant works of available Artistes)...The Webio Program (via streams & podcasts) has in fact become the main Form via which I get everything now...
It's been a treat spending a couple of hours a week with you, Gaylord. I hope the universe brings you back to the WFMU airwaves in the future. Until then I'll enjoy your past shows via the extensive FMU archives. Have fun discovering what Sunday brunch is all about!

Most definitely! And another Justin and Ash favorite with "the Water is Wide"! Breaking out all the Gaylord classics today
@geezerette: I played it last week, and all it did was made me lament all the soundtrack schlock he felt that he had to record instead of gems like that song.
...Elvis sounding like Mel Torme or Chet - & Tim Buckley always sounding like Fred Neil - one of those voices people on the scene say tape didn't even fully capture...Zappa paid his way, was it ?
I don't like change. And I especially don't like losing you. You have been part of our family cooking/dinnertime for so many years. We are losing a family member. But maybe you can show up one Sunday dinner and eat my delicious cupcakes again. xo
@Gaylord: That "Aero '66" request was completely spontaneous; of all the bazillion songs that might be considered "typical" Gaylord Show fare, that's the one that popped arbitrarily into my head, as if delivered by some higher power.
But I like the idea of listeners leaving requests now, for the first show when you come back. The folks on this board right now could make one suggestion each...and the result could sound indistinguishable from any generically non-generic show you might program completely from scratch...
a show is a performance, just like an actor has - adrenaline has to go somewhere. love this sam phillips cd - and her turn as the nasty girlfriend in die hard 3
As soon as I heard the voice I knew this was Sam Phillips. CONFESSION: I saw her in concert 20+ years ago when she was a Contemporary Christian artist and went by Leslie Phillips.
@Gaylord I think in the US it's out on Criterion. 1976 Spanish film by Carlos Saura, with Geraldine Chaplin and Ana Torent (from Spirit of the Beehive).
I never really considered the burden (if that's the right word - maybe responsibilities is better?) a great dj must bear, being on the other side of the deep personal connections and emotions that his/her listeners feel...

thank you for being here for us Gaylord, we're all going to miss you! have fun!
Your're not gonna go until you've made me shed just a tear or two, aren't you? Don't forget to send us a postcard from Rio, Ken can post it on the FMU Main Page...
