  9:30am tim from champaign:

Thanks! A couple years back I got a job at the circ desk at the university's main library. Unfortunately, it's cut back on my daytime listening but I keep telling my bosses that the circ desk needs FMU!

Claude X sounds like his famous MCs are Wesley Willis and Mr. T.
Avatar 9:42am Marty McSorley:

its a beautiful thing like a sink with out dishes.

Avatar 9:42am PKNY:

The Googles comes up empty on Claude X. What's up with that!
Avatar 9:43am Cecile:

macklemore tickets are on groupon. I don't think I can add anything else.

@PKNY I know, I was scouring as well. No discogs, nothing.

Marty is cold running ahead of the Interwebs!

Pastime Paradise > Amish Paradise > Gangsta's Paradise
Avatar 9:54am bobdoesthings:

stevie wonder - pastime paradise (coolio gangster's paradise sample)
Avatar 9:54am Cecile:

OK, it's cheesy, but still pretty banging.
Avatar 9:55am bobdoesthings:

@pkny! ahhh haha, forgot about Weird Al's version. hehe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am foofs:

I never really saw what Stevie had against hobbies in the first place.

It's also doubles as the order of the paradises I hope await us in the afterlife.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am rsj:

after that, you should play "white and nerdy"
  9:59am tim from champaign:

That's the best celebrity story ever, Marty!
Avatar 10:00am Cecile:

I get you about ice cream. I worked at an ice cream parlor when I first got to A2. Funnily enough, Madonna used to work there, and had just left when I started. I learned that years later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am steve:

wonder where Friends Forever is now
Avatar 10:03am Cecile:

That's what was happening with ACME comedy club recently - they could stay, but a building was going up in their old parking lot. That's a petition I got behind. Every big comedian has played there, often secret shows when they have a free day.
Avatar 10:04am Marcel M:

The Smell has been around for 18 years? Wow! I got to go there the last time I visited LA. Stayed right near it. The thing that surprised me about it compared to all ages DIY type venues here in New York, NO BOOZE ALOUD! None sold inside and no BYOB. If a venue was like that in NYC, no-one would go. Very young crowd though. But anyway, everyone drinks in the parking lot to the side.. like hanging out in the parking lot pounding. Quite different than NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am rbxbx:

@Marcel yeah, it's kind of beautiful though. I can only imagine if such a venue existed where I grew up as a kid. Great weirdo booking, *and* I convince my mom it's cool to let me go? Perfect.
Avatar 10:07am Cecile:

that's how the Greystone used to be. It meant lots of puking before the show.
Avatar 10:07am Cecile:

not by me, just lots of little teen punk girls.
Avatar 10:07am Marty McSorley:

they usta not be as strict but they got shut down for almost a year cause of it and alot of other violations from the city in like 04 but came though it but had to be strickter on the drinking to not get shut down again. and the mexican gay bar on the corner has cheep beers too. ( they are tearing that down too :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am rbxbx:

Sad they're demoing it, I've only been once (for the final Captain Ahab show!) but it seemed like a great space :(
Avatar 10:10am Marcel M:

@rbxbx: It is indeed beautiful. Just a sight to behold!

@Marty: Ah! That makes sense. I figured they must have had their reasons. I just kind of rolled up thinking it would be like DBA or something and was surprised.
Avatar 10:10am Marty McSorley:

thats what the notice on the door said when they got there on friday. more info at www.thesmell.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am sphere:

morning all. this is the first time that the Make-Up has worked for me!
Avatar 10:16am Marcel M:

Thanks for the link Marty. I signed and threw them some scratch.
Avatar 10:20am Marty McSorley:

Avatar 10:22am Cecile:

why do people change the very neighborhoods that drew them there in the first place? Sure, things change, but why erase all the character.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Parq:

Digging this epic Irma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Parq:

Cecile, because when those things drew those folks to those places, it was temporary, a whim. Once they settle down, they want what they know -- the same chain stores, fast food joints, etc.
Avatar 10:29am Marcel M:

@Cecile: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am JtotheK:

always glad to hear some Devin the Dude! good morning Marty, good morning everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am sphere:

Marcel is right. Increased property values are major community killers.
Avatar 10:30am Cecile:

I am just really happy the response to the ACME petition was swift and huge. The developers, ACME and City Council have a meeting schedule to come up with a new plan.
Avatar 10:31am Marty McSorley:

city abandons. 1st come the homeless, then come the punks, then come the artists, then come the yuppies, then come the developers, then come the squares.
Avatar 10:32am Cecile:

See, but that doesn't have to happen.
Avatar 10:36am Marcel M:

In an ideal sense it doesn't have to happen, but unless something radically changes in the way we do things here, it will.
Avatar 10:37am bobdoesthings:

love this blackstar track
Avatar 10:38am Cecile:

Change has to start somewhere. The kids are moving back into cities, and a lot of them don't necessarily want them sanitized. Reasonably safe, yes, but not bland.
Avatar 10:39am Marcel M:

It seems impossible in NYC. But I admire your optimism.

This track IS sick indeed.
Avatar 10:40am Marcel M:

BOOM c1.staticflickr.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am sphere:

lost the stream because iTunes upgraded itself without my say-so. that's kinda unnerving.
Avatar 10:49am Cecile:

that was actually great. And they were from here. I didn't know that.
Avatar 10:51am bobdoesthings:

@sphere - ugh.. thats scary. I hate this new move to mandatory upgrading. "Do you want to upgrade now or remind you tomorrow?" Wait where was the option to not?! "Get the upgrade we "fixed the bugs" that allowed you to have control. "
Avatar 10:51am Cecile:

one of the guys does a show on KFAI, I'll have to check it out.
  10:51am goat friend:

This is what beck sounded like in my teenage dreams. Thumbs up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am rsj:

i missed the big daddy kane? shiiit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am steveo:

Cranktastic show today, as usual, Mr. McSorley. Hard to argue with slowed down 45s. Also, this song turns 25 in 2018.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am rbxbx:

That BARR track was really working for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am rsj:

check out white and nerdy, only recently did i notice key and piel in gangster mobile at the start, it's on regular on-demand rotation for my kids in the shower
Avatar 11:00am Marcel M:

@rbxbx: The photo in your profile was taken 2 blocks from my apartment, if you live in Brooklyn, that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am rbxbx:

@Marcel awesome. I do indeed. That's pretty close to my hood as well, I'm a bit further north off Bushwick.

Friend was playing a house show down that way and I jog through there pretty often.
Avatar 11:03am Marcel M:

@rbxbx: Hah! Cool, we are neighbors. I looked at your profile and recognized the building.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am rbxbx:

@Marcel :D pleased to make your acquaintance!

It could just be selection bias, but I feel like all the music nerds are in Bushwick these days... Makes buying gear of craigslist easy!
Avatar 11:05am Marcel M:

Thats true haha. There is a lot of sick shit on CL around here.
  11:06am CKev:

Woke up to this Loretta Lynn song this morning. Is the universe sending me a hint?
Avatar 11:07am Cecile:

YES the only Neil Diamond song I can tolerate and it's because of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Stevel:

Avatar 11:13am Marcel M:

Great show today Marty. Work time. Peace.
Avatar 11:13am bobdoesthings:

no idea who wally george is, but he sounds like a real jerk..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am rbxbx:

My friend was raised as a Moonie. Seems like an odd lil religion/cult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am steve:

"there's a new fad, and its here to stay"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Greg from ZONE 5:

I'm with Wally—I'm sick of all these fads like "punk" and "metal" and "gay"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am rbxbx:

@Marcel later
Avatar 11:14am PKNY:

So this is a 4 song Wally EP? What other songs does he butcher on that?
Avatar 11:14am Cecile:

Steely Dan's Barrytown is about Moonie headquarters.
Avatar 11:14am bobdoesthings:

Johnny Matthis sample
Avatar 11:15am Cecile:

If you're weirded out by Moonies, don't eat sushi with the AFC label. It's a major fundraiser for them.
Avatar 11:15am bobdoesthings:

"no love"
Avatar 11:15am Marty McSorley:

he was the og shock tv guy. proto geraldo had then mentors and gwar on and stuff just to throw them off the stage. also rebecca de mornay's dad
Avatar 11:18am Cecile:

LA is nowhere as liberal as it seems. Ann Arbor wasn't as extreme, but it's a lot like it in terms of being socially liberal and fiscally Republican.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am rbxbx:

@Cecile interesting. I will keep that in mind.
Avatar 11:19am Cecile:

I came up old-school Michigan Republican before the morals police took over. Frankly, they were more like centrists, or god forbid, conservative Democrats.
Avatar 11:22am bobdoesthings:

this is a fun cover! diggg it
Avatar 11:26am Cecile:

Is this the Mars Volta guy?
Avatar 11:27am Marty McSorley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Liz Berg:

We are pumping your show loud at the WFMU tent here in Barcelona, Marty!
  11:37am Mark R:

OK some of the GIs came back from Asia with heroin habits, but clearly they were importing LSD and giving it to the localls.
  11:40am mary:
