Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Cliff:

Okay, what's with that 3rd album title?! I don't believe "PC-Fascist Hyper Lords" and "Internet" were in the 1982 zeitgeist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Cliff:

"Midwestern Internet Peoplepunks", even
Avatar 12:27pm geezerette:

Robots pogo on trampolines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Scraps deSelby:

It's true that in 1982 "internet" was far from common use, but the word was in use in at least the early 70s
Avatar 12:27pm geezerette:

...in formation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Cliff:

Brain's not braining enough today. I'll have to listen on the archives to make the connection (or not)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Cliff:

I'm still recovering from Mayuko's fill-in last night :D
Avatar 12:29pm geezerette:

Yes there was the internet but no graphical interface so not the internet we're familiar with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Cliff:

Yep, Al Gore had an e-mail address in the 70's.
Avatar 12:33pm geezerette:

That's funny, for some reason!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Scraps deSelby:

RateYourMusic says compilation 2015 (The Coneheads). RYM says EPs and singles only go back to 2014. I bet 1982 is a joke
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Liz Berg:

Thanks for the Coneheads research, Scraps!
Avatar 12:35pm Cecile:

yeah, I'm under the impression they're a Chicago punk band with some self-promoting humor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm mariano:

Some serious bass there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Cliff:

Thank you Scraps, my sense of cultural reality was in danger of dissolving for a while there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Cliff:

Facepalm, I read the track name as the year it was put out. Never mind folks!!
Avatar 12:37pm Dr. Goot:

Cool Damned cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Scraps deSelby:

Everybody laughs at Al Gore "inventing" the internet (which he didn't say). In fact he had an important say politically, arguably the most important for a politician.
Avatar 12:37pm geezerette:

and 1982 WAS a joke.
Avatar 12:38pm Cecile:

Cliff, that's not such a wild assumption to make.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Cliff:

I'm still angry about that, Scraps. That whole thing was such bullshit. Even Vint Cerf made a press release supporting him, didn't stop the media narrative one bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm sphere:

hello peops :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm mariano:

Same with Howard Dean's "scream." A fake controversy over absolutely nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Scraps deSelby:

And government policy = money in the internet's early days

Cliff: yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm sphere:

thanks for the hardcore punk liz, this is kickstarting my technical editing efforts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Cliff:

Ye gods, don't even get me started about THAT one, mariano
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm mariano:

@sphere: yeah, Trouble's show now this one have been great for prettying up infographics too! @Cliff: I know, I know.
Avatar 12:42pm geezerette:

Where is Howard Dean? You never even see his name in media!
Was he sent to the countryside for re-education?
Avatar 12:44pm coelacanth:

greetings Liz and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Cliff:

He was head of the DNC for the 2nd half of the Bush administration.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm sphere:

Dean is a superdelegate in 2016 and he is on record that he will vote for Hillary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Cliff:

After that, I guess the people in the smoke-filled rooms made him disappear from the media. Like they're so desperately trying to do with another candidate right now. Anyways, enough politics from me today! I might pop an artery or something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Michael 98145:

When we were going to Interop in 1989 we never anticipated we'd be buying lubricant and listening to radio over the network.
Avatar 12:47pm coelacanth:

i was just reading about Dave Emory while listening to "infinite distortion" when i realised Liz is on and may be playing what i need to hear right now; and, voila! needs met.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm mariano:

That guy from the Ex sounds like me on my bike yelling at traffic.
Avatar 12:48pm geezerette:

Liz your show is like adderall in orange juice. :D
( Not that I would know. )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Scraps deSelby:

Dean is a consultant. Some people use that as a cover for "retired", but in Dean's case it's probably real, seeing how he was ahead of the game using the internet for national elections.
Avatar 12:52pm geezerette:

coel, New Yorker cartoons are much healthier for you than Dave Emory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Scraps deSelby:

Love the Ex. Lots and lots of good post-punk albums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Did I ever mention how much happiness I feel when the "Sugar Sugar" bed music starts playing? Well, quite a bit of happiness.
Avatar 12:54pm geezerette:

Scraps, I'm sure you're right about that.
Avatar 12:54pm coelacanth:

Scraps@12:37 people are sheep and often their opinions are dictated by south park or howard stern or some self-serving stand up comic. it became fashionable and fun to dis Al Gore so the followers followed.
Avatar 12:57pm coelacanth:

geezerette, i haven't seen new yorker cartoons in a few years but i'm sure you're right.
it's a shame about Emory. so much potential, but i don't trust him now. (well, not for a long time.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm mariano:

I voted for Gore, I've always had a generally favorable opinion of him, but he's always reminded me of the singer in Spandau Ballet. Not that that's a bad thing, but I can't help but hear "True" whenever I see him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Scraps deSelby:

doo doo doo, doo doo, DOO! doo doo doo doooo, doo doo, doo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Scraps deSelby:

mariano: play (mentally) "Instinction" instead.
Avatar 1:03pm Cecile:

After seeing Trump, Dean is reported as saying, "people freaked out over ME?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Cliff:

Cecile, the rules differ depending on party affiliation
Avatar 1:04pm coelacanth:

right mariano. he's a goofy guy! but even mocking trump's hair was pretty pathetic on the part of trump haters. there are plenty of legitimate issues.
  1:05pm el BO-Bo:

B-Core disc has great bands. Delorean started with them. There's a store near the Forum Place and the owner almost always is there. Get Nueva Vulcano interview. Many good bands. Cheers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm mariano:

@Scraps: yeah, but think of Gore, about to give his nomination acceptance speech, suddenly belting out "With a thrill in my head, and a pill on my tongue..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Scraps deSelby:

la la la la I can't hear you.....
Avatar 1:07pm Cecile:

Cliff, it's not just that. It's if you are a "cool kid" or not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Cliff:

  1:25pm el BO-Bo:

Why "True" instead of "Gold"? "You've got the power to know, you're indispensable....gold, gold." I cant remember the lyrics darn it. LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Liz Berg:

The Raincoats track is originally from the Silver Monk Time tribute album from some years back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Cliff:

Not to be confused with A Raincoat, the band that put out "It Came In The Night"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm mariano:

@el Bo-Bo: all the songs work, "True" was just the first one that came to mind when I first made the connection.

Avatar 1:43pm Cecile:

every generation gets the Weezer they deserve.
  1:47pm el BO-Bo:

I went to 2 "record" stores this past weekend looking for any old original stuff I could find and I was so dissapointed. All the Mats reissues were $30. There was no REM nothing. No Coil, no Negativland. A lot of Misfits, hardcore, new Kraftwerk. I refuse to go to discogs or ebay so Im going to quit my job and travel the world and when I find some original crap Ill come back n get another job. I need a job I enjoy like dj or record store attendand. I hate my life but FMU makes it beareable. This playlist is excellent.

There is a rather dubious looking YouTube clip called "Miracle Whip Song."
Avatar 2:33pm Cecile:

my late dad had a quintiple bypass and loved his eggs. he'd save them all up from his eating plan and have a massive omelet every couple of weeks.
