Can you buy the vostell anywhere?
  5:21pm Cliff:

RevRabbit - I was watching the BBC documentary from 2014 about them a couple weeks ago, they brought together the classic lineup from the mid 70's for a group interview. (Though they didn't let Steve Hackett talk too much)

  5:24pm okay:

@2000: Probably here: http://www.lespressesdureel.com/EN/ouvrage.php?id=3232&menu=
  5:25pm Cliff:

Thanks RevRabbit, always like hearing what Eno has to say about just about anything
  5:27pm Cliff:

Though I always found it kinda funny that he invented the term "ambient music", and then the meaning of it changed behind his back into something he didn't intend at all (toned down dance music with 4/4 beats)
  5:29pm Cliff:

Kinda like how Richard Dawkins coined the word "meme", and then decades later the internet generation dumbed it down into random crap that gets passed around on Feckblargh

(PS - Memes don't exist. Tell your friends!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Michael 98145:

Well-said, Cliff.
We're going viral.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Carmichael:

Heya Scott and pals. Finally I can come up for air on this crappy Monday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Carmichael:

This sounds like something Dieter would play on Sprockets. :)
Avatar 5:38pm TDK60:

Hi Scott and crowd, here late. Can anyone rememe me what memes memes?
  5:39pm Cliff:

I saw a great video interview with Brian Eno years ago where the interviewer pulled cards from Oblique Strategies to come up with the next question. Can't find it now unfortunately, the forum where I posted a link to it has long since self-destructed (oh Liminal Nation, whatever happened to you....). But in the process of searching I came across one of Eno being interviewed by Alan Moore: web.archive.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Marcel M:

Woah wtf.. this is cool.
  5:40pm Cliff:

Marcel - I have the "Memes Don't Exist" t-shirt!
  5:45pm V Priceless:

Avatar 5:48pm Scraps deSelby:

Cliff: Yeah, I get really annoyed* at the modern genre use of "ambient", mostly because it doesn't mean "ambient" in any way. I even see some people using "ambient heavy metal".

*and I try to never get annoyed with language choices.
  5:49pm Cliff:

Hey Scott, I just clicky-starred-friended you. Hope you getta little dopamine hit from that. MEME MEME MEME
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh - I got 'Ambient Metal' from Julian Cope- I tot it was really kewl - especially as I didn't get it @ 1st...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm foofs:

Avatar 5:53pm Scraps deSelby:

Well, if Julian Cope said it, fine, he probably meant it in an interesting way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Michael 98145:

good summation tune
  5:55pm Cliff:

Scraps - Language is not entirely under our control! Eno eventually went with "generative music" which is a better descriptor for what he was aiming for - beats going in and out of phase in potentially infinite combinations. Also resonates with "generative syntax" which is kinda sorta the same idea from a parallel universe
  5:56pm Cliff:

Just ask Noam Chomsky.

Thanks fer the show today Scott!!

What was that last song playing in the background while you talked? Sounded like a slowed-down version of the second song, Henri Texier - Les Là-Bas.
