Though I always found it kinda funny that he invented the term "ambient music", and then the meaning of it changed behind his back into something he didn't intend at all (toned down dance music with 4/4 beats)
  5:29pm
Cliff:

Kinda like how Richard Dawkins coined the word "meme", and then decades later the internet generation dumbed it down into random crap that gets passed around on Feckblargh

I saw a great video interview with Brian Eno years ago where the interviewer pulled cards from Oblique Strategies to come up with the next question. Can't find it now unfortunately, the forum where I posted a link to it has long since self-destructed (oh Liminal Nation, whatever happened to you....). But in the process of searching I came across one of Eno being interviewed by Alan Moore: web.archive.org...

Scraps - Language is not entirely under our control! Eno eventually went with "generative music" which is a better descriptor for what he was aiming for - beats going in and out of phase in potentially infinite combinations. Also resonates with "generative syntax" which is kinda sorta the same idea from a parallel universe
