Listener comments!

Avatar 9:10pm Scraps deSelby:

The guitar opening is very familiar, to the point where I thought it was a different song; but I don't know Arlet. And of course, I forget the song that reminds me of. Yeah.
Avatar 9:10pm Scraps deSelby:

And h'lo Irene, h'lo people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Irene Trudel:

'Alo to you too, Scraps! Guess us just the two of us here. Always like playing things that are familiar and not at the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Ken From Hyde Park:

N'yello! A little late to the party, but glad to be here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I listen !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Ken and Rev. Rabbit! Just fishing out there for listeners. I'm a little slow to post tonight myself.
  9:28pm Whampa:

This song is really pretty Irene.
Avatar 9:29pm Alejandroool:

Irene, your show brought me out of a short nap in a very nice way, dozed off during phonograph and woke up here
Avatar 9:36pm Scraps deSelby:

Your music-behind-dj (Jon Hassel) is my favorite track of its year
Avatar 9:38pm Scraps deSelby:

er, Hassell
  9:45pm JakeGould:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

  9:56pm Dave R:

Can you play more John Hassell?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm Irene Trudel:

I might, Dave.
  10:04pm miketp:

IRENE nice steven Wilson track. In the yard birds chirping n this. In Portland. Light out here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm coelacanth:

hi Irene and others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Mike. Sounds nice out your way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Irene Trudel:

Hi coelacanth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Did William Berger come in early ? :)
  10:13pm Cliff:

Thank you Irene, this is the perfect music for doing a spring cleaning and sage smudging of my apartment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Irene Trudel:

Ha, Rev. Rabbit! Sometimes I like the heavy stuff. Glad you like what I'm playing, Cliff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Robert Fripp 70 y.o. yesterday.
Avatar 10:20pm Van in DC:

Hi Irene and peoples. Just back from watching lots of sports, primarily the fantastic pitcher's duel between Nats & Mets. Much fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm coelacanth:

bummer i missed Anna Von Hausswolff...happy i caught king crimson!
happy birthday Fripp.
Avatar 10:23pm Van in DC:

Mets won by the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm coelacanth:

strawbs exist?! cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, The Strawbs are still around. Just saw them play a gig in Whippany, NJ this past Sunday. Sure made me smile! I posted a few pictures on my FB page.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm Irene Trudel:

The Strawbs have a few more US gigs coming up www.strawbsweb.co.uk...
  10:29pm Cliff:

If anyone wants to hear a ghost story, I found out about a month ago that the previous occupant of my apartment was a WWII veteran who died of cancer. I got some mail for him out of the blue and looked his name up online, and he's listed as still living at my address, at the age of 92....but I also found his obituary, he died in 2007.
  10:30pm Cliff:

That's why I'm doing the sage smudging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I tend to mix up The Straubs with The Sherbs. The rock station in my college town would play "The Skill" from The Sherbs.
  10:33pm JakeGould:

Those sites that state someone’s age even if they are dead are just clickbait. They purposefully flaw the data to get you—or anyone—to fork over some $$$ to see the full/more accurate info. No need for smudge sticks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm coelacanth:

i heard this song on the radio when i was about 11. went to the lending library and they didn't have this album, but had "bursting at the seams", which i recorded onto an 8-track tape. i loved it...and i still have it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm coelacanth:

("this song" - i mean the Strawbs song.)
  10:38pm Cliff:

Well there was a lot of other stuff going on for the past six years I was living here, that was just the icing on the cake. Just covering my bases before I move out next month.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Irene Trudel:

Wow, that's creepy, Cliff! Hope there are no lingering ghosts after this.
  10:39pm JakeGould:

Whatever floats your boat!
  10:40pm Cliff:

If nothing else, the scent of sage is very calming. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, coelacanth! Bursting at the Seams was probably the first album I discovered by The Strawbs. Maybe I'll play one of those tracks too.
Avatar 10:41pm Van in DC:

One thing I hate about living in the NE: Apt controls when they switch on AC or heat for everyone. This SUCKS. Not that way down south. No heat no for about a week and I'm freezing. Frigging global warming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm coelacanth:

none of those dates are near me. Irene are you ukrainian? - not that a non-ukrainian can't see a show at the ukrainian center...just curious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm coelacanth:

Cliff, i'm glad you're smudging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Irene Trudel:

If it's any consolation, Van, NYC hasn't been much better. A glimmer of heat last week, now it's back to chilly nights and no apt. heat.
  10:46pm JakeGould:

It’s like fall in NYC nowadays. Nobody knows how to dress!
  10:47pm listening out there:

It's pleasant here on the left coast...for now :)
Avatar 10:47pm Van in DC:

Watched the swimming pool people getting our pool ready for Memorial Day opening today, lol. They were wearing jackets of course.
Avatar 10:51pm Van in DC:

So Saturday morning I wake up with severe mouth ache. After 3 days I got to dentist...informed I have infection, swelling, and Yay! I get to have a root canal done. Next week...man this sucks. Still is very painful.
Avatar 10:53pm Scraps deSelby:

Love Robert Wyatt...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Irene Trudel:

Nope, coelacanth! I'm a German-English mutt. That was just where the concert was held. Apparently there's a concert series in NJ called Splatter Concerts and they use that hall as a venue. www.kofc6100.org...
Avatar 10:54pm Scraps deSelby:

Van: sucks, ouch
  10:56pm JakeGould:

Awesome “Genesis” right here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Irene Trudel:

Oww, I've been there, Van! Believe it or not, sucking on some cloves actually helps sooth the mouth.
Avatar 10:57pm Van in DC:

Yeah thanks Scraps. I'm in a run of really bad luck lately. Broken collarbone & 3 ribs, now this. Sigh.
Avatar 10:57pm Van in DC:

cloves... I'll have to hunt some down
  10:57pm Cliff:

Hey Scraps, thanks for the tip about the last three Captain Beefheart records
Avatar 10:59pm Van in DC:

On the plus side, I can now justify ice cream for every meal right now ha ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm coelacanth:

-also echinacea numbs it a bit.
...Irene that looks like a very cool organisation.
Avatar 11:00pm Alejandroool:

I just had some dangerous dulce de leche haagen dazs
Avatar 11:01pm Scraps deSelby:

Cliff: hey, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm coelacanth:

Lovely music!
Avatar 11:02pm geezerette:

Guru Guru sounded a little acid surf-punk in places.
Digging sounds while working.

@Cliff: Yikes! Smudging is only prudent, and of course smells like New Mexico!

@Van:Sorry! Have Alleve or something on hand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Tome:

lovely 2 hours Irene ! simply Marvelous !
  11:04pm Cliff:

Often fantasize about moving to Albuquerque or Santa Fe.....don't know what I'd do there though. Maybe when I'm older
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Santos L. Halper:

I heartily endorse tonight's prog-fest. Thanks Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm coelacanth:

burning sage has a calming effect on me. not just the white sage from california either; higher elevations in colorado have a more floral-smelling, smaller leaf sage - 'does the same thing.
Avatar 11:09pm geezerette:

Same here. So damn beautiful.
But you'll be able to see a lot of Europe by train, etc. You'll have a dozen new places to possibly move to/fall in love with!
Avatar 11:11pm geezerette:

Coel, my favorite is Cleveland Sage. Intoxicating perfume and elegant purple or blue flowers.
  11:12pm herb.nyc:

Power to da Strawba. Gnite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm coelacanth:

geezerette - interesting. i know there're like a thousand species of sage; i wonder what that is..?
  11:14pm Cliff:

Yep, definitely planning on exploring Prague and lots of weekend train trips over the next year :)
  11:17pm JakeGould:

Guess I’ll burn some sage. But who has the thyme? *ducks*
  11:17pm Cliff:

Wocka wocka!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm coelacanth:

tee hee
Avatar 11:21pm Van in DC:

Thanks Irene. Will catch up later. Heavy drugs for pain knocking me out. Have good night all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Huh....new version of iTunes is out. Yay?
Avatar 11:26pm geezerette:

@Jake:Rosemary. Has the thyme. :D
Avatar 11:26pm geezerette:

  11:28pm KP:

Mighty Baby! What a treat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Irene Trudel:

Ken, it's a trap... (bad Star Wars reference, I know.) I won't download a new version just before I go on air. Liable to totally mess things up for me. Anyone out there upgrade yet?
  11:30pm Cliff:

Aaaaarrrreee yyyyoooouuuu going to Scarborough Fair
  11:30pm KP:

I went out today, saw my shadow. That's it for six weeks.
  11:32pm KP:

My new iPhone keeps up with internet tuner very well and I can nice surround thing going most times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm coelacanth:

i only use itunes to upload from cds, since i'm not given other options; but i've never "upgraded" since i bought this refurbished macbook over 5 years ago.
  11:34pm listening out there:

ITunes 12.4 has mainly podcast related improvements. I've read it's supposed to do some of its many things faster. I don't see much that benefits my uses...
Avatar 11:34pm Scraps deSelby:

Aaaahhhhhhhhhhh.... thank you, Irene.
  11:35pm Andrew:

Dave R. is not the only Jon Hassell fan. Saw him in the '80's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Irene Trudel:

Good to know, l.o.t. Sometimes "improvements" make things worse. My Macbook keeps popping up an alert asking me me to allow Calendar Agent keychain access.
Avatar 11:37pm Alejandroool:

I updated and the only thing I notice different so far is a slight green/blue gradient glow on the left-hand Library/Playlist column
Avatar 11:39pm geezerette:

scraps you're so right about Jon Hassell. Wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm coelacanth:

i'd like a nice green/blue glow but mplayer works much better for listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm sinister dexter:

loving the show tonight Irene, thanks
Avatar 11:41pm Alejandroool:

cc: the glow looks like a mistake...a strange gradient. hah I thought something was wrong with my display, but it's only in the itunes window.
Avatar 11:42pm Scraps deSelby:

geezerette: yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm coelacanth:

Jon Hassell's extraordinary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm coelacanth:

(though my favorite Hassell, of what i've heard, is his collaboration with Eno.)
Avatar 11:43pm Alejandroool:

I think it may actually be a display glitch in itunes, pretty odd. Must keep this John Hassell on my radar it seems..
Avatar 11:46pm geezerette:

Gorgeous show Irene. Gotta click it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm coelacanth:

that is odd, A. but i have no need for it anyway. i'm hoping that by the time (in the near-future) this computer dies, i'm set up with linux on my other (windows vista) laptop. if not, i probably still wont buy an apple again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm coelacanth:

hah! i had hoped you'd play Marissa Nadler tonight; but i'm not one to suggest music on the comment board.
Avatar 11:51pm Alejandroool:

gotcha coela! evening everybody, thanks Irene!
  11:51pm ?:

  11:52pm miketp:

Great show Irene. MARISSA HITTING THE Sweet spot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm coelacanth:

g'night 'Jandro.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Irene Trudel:

G'nite Alejandroool. Thanks for tuning in. And if I don't get a chance to write again, G'nite all.
  11:54pm KP:

Ah, Marissa Nadler. This is super
  11:54pm Cliff:

Thanks Irene, the tunes really fit with my spooky mood tonight
Avatar 11:55pm Scraps deSelby:

coel, have you heard Power Spot?
  11:56pm KP:

Sorry to be late again Irene but I enjoy every visit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I use iTunes to edit mp3 files by adding the artwork, composer, year, etc. I stream WFMU with it occasionally. There are a ton of WFMU podcasts, but there are only 24 hours in a day! www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Irene Trudel:

No Problem, KP! Glad you can join in for whatever amount of time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm coelacanth:

Thanks Irene. Great program!

...Scraps, no - what's that?
  11:59pm ?:

as i bspeak to put my mind ltters wise. ... .. whith dear regards
  11:59pm listening out there:

Oh. And the previous iTunes release was occasionally deleting music bought from the iTunes store. Not a good user experience...
Avatar 11:59pm Scraps deSelby:

Hassell 80s album, ECM, great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am coelacanth:

oh, that's right, Ken. i did also use it for podcasts once.
Avatar 12:01am Scraps deSelby:

I think produced by Eno and Lanois. I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am coelacanth:

i'll def check it out Scraps. Thanks!
...yes, lot, i heard the last issue had lots of problems.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:50am Sean in Bristol UK:

Wow, Irene, that was an epic show, the choice of music was 'out of the park'. So much great music, thank you.
