ladies and gentlemen hell has frozen over The Misfits reunion has been announced.
Avatar 12:04pm V Priceless:

hey Diane, C Section...

Hi everyone!

Avatar 12:06pm V Priceless:

...and the original remaining Alice Cooper Group are doing a record! For once, some great R & R news!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

It's true about the Misfits - www.spin.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm coe:

@V Priceless although I am a huge Misfits fan and will probably partake in what ever tour they do after the Riotfest show I have to say I'm actually more excited about the AC news.
Avatar 12:09pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

Pepe is in the house for at least a little! Bring it Kazi!! :)
Avatar 12:11pm V Priceless:

@ coe - the ACG 'Killer'-inspired album reunion is astounding news....something I've been lobbying for since...1974! Ha! Too bad Glen is RIP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm paul b:

Diane, I remember you did a peer pressure segment with Tom Lyle a few years ago -- if you could play a couple of Government Issue songs in memory of John Stabb that would be nice. And yes musicians just need a better health plan
Avatar 12:13pm Diane Kamikaze:

Tom is my guest next week, we'll be donig a 2 hour tribute for John Stabb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm coe:

Also just announce Twisted Sisters last NJ gig will be a weekend festival in Sept featuring many many guests.
Avatar 12:15pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

Nice Trick!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm joe:

@V Priceless I've always wanted it but after that Billion Dollar Babies set at Chiller last fall I've literally been dreaming about it. And seeing how good AC still is the other night just wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Speaking of fallen heroes, Ronnie James Dio passed away six years ago this week.
Avatar 12:17pm Cheri Pi:

COE I'm so jealous!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Coe:

@Cheri I don't know what was better seeing how good he was or seeing the amazing reaction from my wife who had never seen him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Coe:

DK how were the Ivan benefit shows? Sorry I couldn't make either one
Avatar 12:26pm Wilson K:

Ahh, the British Office... those were the days
Avatar 12:27pm Cecile:

NO. Stabb died?
Avatar 12:27pm Cecile:

I love the British Office. Watching it on bootleg promo DVDs.
Avatar 12:27pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

Wow, beautiful song Kazi! :)
Avatar 12:28pm Cecile:

Yeah, Dio would be awesome.
Avatar 12:30pm Cecile:

In happier news, I can retire fat, sassy, and completely independent of family in less than 7 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm chris:

Cecile, that's wonderful retirement news.... its decades in the works for me, damn my love of travel.
Avatar 12:36pm Cheri Pi:

Congrats Cecile! I may need to die with my bootlegs on
Avatar 12:37pm Cecile:

I would sit down with someone and see for sure - you never know. I thought we were doing something wrong by being cautious but not too cautious in our savings and whatnot. It was a complete shock and surprise to us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Rich in Washington:

These bootlegs were made for watching.
Avatar 12:38pm Cecile:

but now I think it opens up some doors - we might travel a bit more. Explore some options for changing jobs if some stuff is portable.
Avatar 12:39pm Cecile:

and everyone start saving now! even if it's $1/week.
Avatar 12:39pm Cecile:

sandwich song!
Avatar 12:39pm Diane Kamikaze:

That's inspiring, Cecile!! THANKS!! :)
Avatar 12:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

back from mtg!
Avatar 12:42pm Cecile:

To discourage older savers is wrong. So you have maybe $100,00 after years of saving instead of $1 mil. It's still better than zero. Not all of us can put away 5 grand a year in our 20s.
Avatar 12:43pm Cecile:

Rev, the director of the Helvetica movie was at the conference I went to yesterday. Not only is he an aging punk rocker, he started his talk with the Beat Club clip of the MC5 doing Kick Out the Jams
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The folks in those TV commercials certainly look like they're having a great time in retirement. Good for you, Cecile!
Avatar 12:45pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Cecile: NICE...
I finally got to see the Helv.movie last year. Never understood all the knee-jerk hate. I'm usually the one militant helvetica-defender in any group.
Avatar 12:46pm Cecile:

Well, the first thing we're going to do is get part time jobs and work until Social Security kicks in. I personally want to subscribe to the Elliot Carter retirement scenario - be 103, working on something you love, take an afternoon nap and just not wake up.
Avatar 12:47pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

have been emphatically infatuated with Alte Haas Grotesk for years. All type on earth could be just that. Joy forever.
Avatar 12:47pm Cecile:

I got a book of all the interviews from Helvetica, Objectified and Urbanized. You and Massimo Vignelli would have been best friends, Rev. Except you would argue about Fraktur all the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm chris:

you type heads
Avatar 12:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Also: missed the Toad track. I assume it was the old '70s LP? I just discovered that via youtube recently. Loved it.
Avatar 12:49pm Chris from DC:

Avatar 12:49pm Cecile:

oh, but the sad thing was is that the type designer gave a boring lecture on the history of type, and the audience either fell asleep or texted each other after he got to around 1700. We're horrible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Rich in Washington:

I couldn't get ten minutes into Objectified. Maybe I should try again. It just seemed like it was so full of itself and people who really are into their stuff. I just found it off-putting for some reason. Maybe it got better. I don't know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Rich in Washington:

and I really like and appreciate design.
Avatar 12:50pm Cecile:

I haven't seen the movie, Rich, but I have liked the few interviews I've skimmed since I got the book yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Rich in Washington:

I really enjoyed Helvetica even though Helvetica and I have moved on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm chris:

prog heaven
Avatar 12:52pm Cecile:

and the filmmaker operates from obsession. I'm sure if my interests didn't overlap, I'd be bored as hell. Although we agreed that obsessing on the MC5 Beat Club clip was a worthy thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Rich in Washington:

I'm now in a relationship with a Gotham HTC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Rich in Washington:

That MC5 Beat Club video should be a religion. I had no idea Wayne Kramer was such a hot shit rock dude.
Avatar 12:53pm Cheri Pi:

I can't believe it's finally Th'Rooster day
Avatar 12:54pm Cecile:

I like Helvetica, even though it was a bit more like a radio show than I liked. Still, pretty good for it being his first movie. And the full interviews in the book are awesome. Even though Massimo Vignelli would hate me.

Rob Tyner's bad teeth are a beacon of inspiration.
Avatar 12:55pm Cecile:

I personally spend most of my time with Balfrey, American Typewriter and Rockwell.
Avatar 12:56pm Cecile:

questions for Chris:

favorite blues singer? favorite pop singer?
what kind of sandwich was he eating during that Atomic Rooster song?
Avatar 12:57pm Cecile:

Pick one:
Steve Winwood vs Paul Rodgers
Chuck Berry vs. Little Richard
Foreigner vs Asia
Frankie Miller vs Noddy Holder?
Avatar 12:59pm Cheri Pi:

Cecile, write the font cage match!
Avatar 1:00pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:00pm Cheri Pi:

I'll start it:
Baby Teeth vs Rob Tyner's
Avatar 1:01pm Cecile:

Rockwell vs Rockford Files
Futura vs Avenir
Avatar 1:01pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Type nerds: looking for a ridiculously awesome display serif with WICKED ball terminals. Need to find the most attractive question-mark in existence.
Avatar 1:02pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 1:02pm Cheri Pi:

I use Baskerville Old Face, just like Billy Childish might
Avatar 1:02pm đ¢ ÞäŦ:

May I just butt in here to say that there is a real person called Baby Teeth in DC? OK, back to the fonts...
Avatar 1:03pm Cheri Pi:

Baskerville Old Face vs. Hounds of the Baskervilles
Avatar 1:03pm jamesie:

I saw you Chris at the Pig's Nose South Hams, Devon a couple of years ago, great gig!
Avatar 1:03pm Cecile:

ooooh. Let me think, Rev. I saw a nice one.
Avatar 1:05pm Cecile:

okay, Eric Gill vs Michael Harvey
William Morris vs Aubrey Beardsley
Massimo Vignelli vs Milton Glaser
Frank Gehry vs IM Pei
Avatar 1:05pm Cheri Pi:

BOF has some pretty big balls, just sayin'
Avatar 1:07pm Cecile:

Geogie Fame vs Alan Price?
  1:07pm Dean:

Aldus Manutius vs Francesco Griffo
Avatar 1:08pm Cecile:

Here's a list of some fonts with ball terminals:
Avatar 1:09pm Cecile:

Try Bodoni Classic Swing, Rev. It's got a great ?
Avatar 1:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

ooh, Mastadoni... [@cecile]
Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

did he play another instrument like Dio did?
Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

Dio credited trumpet playing for his vocal technique.
  1:21pm JakeGould:

Font talk? Oy vey.
  1:26pm JakeGould:

@Cecile: I saw that cartoon once where Dio accidentally swallowed trumpet and had to spend all day honking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Guido from Cologne:

Just two weeks ago I grabbed me a Thunderbirds retrospective CD.
Alwasy loved "Hey Hey Hey" from the first album (Billy Boy Arnold - style)
Avatar 1:27pm geezerette:

Cecile that's a great link! Thanks for posting.
Avatar 1:28pm jamesie:

It was a great gig but sadly marred by Farlowe's rather distasteful racist remarks and many people left at that point!
Avatar 1:28pm Cecile:

more nerd talk:
Seymour Chwast has a kickstarter for his new book, and old issues of the Push Pin Graphic are part of some of the pledges.
Avatar 1:30pm V Priceless:

swell interview, DK - thanx for that!
Avatar 1:30pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:31pm geezerette:

Yay Cecile!

Everyone here is a nerd!
Own it, people!
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

look out
  1:34pm JDM:

Avatar 1:34pm Cecile:

yes, Vivian Campbell, Def Leppard was a waste of your time.
Avatar 1:38pm Cecile:

jamesy, what did he say? If you want to share. And you can tell me offline, if you want.
Avatar 1:43pm Cecile:

oh, and if I haven't said it recently, check out NZ band Beastwars. Not affiliated
Avatar 1:43pm jamesie:

Oh God, something stupid about brown people I cant remember , just that he was pleased to be in Devon where there are mostly white people! Hes a great individual, quite eccentric but like all of us a human being with flaws. It was quite embarrassing really.
Avatar 1:45pm Cecile:

oh, that sucks, jamesie. Especially since HE'S A BLUES SINGER.
Avatar 1:47pm jamesie:

We are all a mix of good and bad, not judging, but I did cringe...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm chris:

this La Chinga track is amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm chris:

damn. really enjoying this, but must attend meeting... thanks, DK!
Avatar 1:59pm Chris from DC:

Kinda bummed to miss Venom in a couple of weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Michael 98145:

I love this place. Where else can you mix great music with font discussions ?!?
Avatar 2:13pm Chris from DC:

This is fantastic.
  2:13pm Hmmph:

Can't dance to it, can't fuck to it...what's the point?
Avatar 2:15pm PKNY:

Avatar 2:15pm Chris from DC:

I remember hearing stuff from this band on Wm's show and digging it.
Avatar 2:45pm Cheri Pi:

this Oaf has the Burnt Skull flavor that I've grown to depend on.
Avatar 2:45pm Luna:

Oh, I like this thing called Oaf.
Avatar 2:46pm Chris from DC:

Aye, that it does.
Avatar 2:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Picked a bad time for a mtg, having missed something that invoked a Burnt Skull flavor... dagnabbit.
Avatar 2:50pm Cheri Pi:

punch yerself for that one, you won't regret it.
Avatar 2:50pm Cheri Pi:

Off to a webinar, in a meeting room!
