Hello Kumar, Duane Train faithful..welcome aboard!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm KRYPT:

Ahh nice sunny afternoon vibe you are loud and clear in Glasgow, hiya Duane!
Avatar 12:05pm Jshatan:

Howdy all. This is indeed so-darn-phisticated.

Mellowing on the cowcatcher, riding the D. Train into a glorious sunny afternoon here. Good day, Duane, and those who Train.

I don't think I've ever heard anything by Barry DeVorzon except The Young and The Restless. Must be tuned in to the wrong station. Who is Jelinda? Another gymnast?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Scraps deSelby:

oh oh oh oh Philly Soul, mm mm mm

hello. back from the drink car in time for some F.U.N.K. noyce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Ken From Hyde Park:

It's possible that Jelinda is the sister of Belinda.

Oh yes, sad sad news about Other Music!
Avatar 12:48pm this guy:

That is sad news about Other Music. I'm glad i was able to stop by last year. Wish i could have more often.
  12:49pm JakeGould:

Barry DeVorzon did the theme to “The Warriors.”
Avatar 12:49pm Jshatan:

Def one of NYC's great record stores - and I thought that before I knew you worked there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Scraps deSelby:

My ex sent me the news about Other Music. (I had moved to Seattle.) It's sad, to me. I only was a customer, but a frequent customer, spent $100 every trip I swear just on used cds.... sigh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Mark the Sardine:

Great message, Duane - really appreciate your show & your work helping to keep the community alive
  12:51pm JakeGould:

Sad about “Other Music” but I remember when they opened and the whole Village was filled with things you could wander around to/from. It was part of a creative retail world. But now that creative retail world in Manhattan is dead.

You know what’s missing in NYC? Places to creatively slack. Cafes in he village? Gone… Casual venues? Gone… Record, book and video stores? Gone…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Scraps deSelby:

Affordable housing? Gone....
Avatar 12:53pm kumar:

probably a dumb question but why didn't Other Music just move to brooklyn? Too saturated?
  12:55pm JakeGould:

I hate the phrase “affordable housing” in NYC. It mean a 200 unit building allows 30 units to be “below market” rate and it’s like that would change anything.
Avatar 12:55pm Duane:

kumar: In a nutshell..the numbers didn't make sense
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Scraps deSelby:

Every year the profits are lower. Move to Brooklyn would only put off the inevitable
  12:56pm JakeGould:

FWIW, the record stores that exist in Brooklyn still are not rolling in the $$$… Unless you want to count that Rough Trade store that is basically a music venue with records for sale as souvenirs.
Avatar 12:56pm kumar:

I see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Scraps deSelby:

Jake: i use the phrase "affordable housing" only to describe me, admittedly
Avatar 12:58pm Jshatan:

Love The Wild Magnolias! Can't knock their groove.
Avatar 12:58pm kumar:

One day someone is going to figure out how to combine brick and mortar sales with online sales and it's going to explode. Discogs is an obvious success but it has no brick and mortar component (which I still think adds value even when you look at it purely from a "profit" standpoint).
  12:59pm JakeGould:

The future of niche retail nowadays is flea markets, record fairs and maybe retail trucks.
Avatar 1:01pm kumar:

oh yeah, a record truck could be a huge success if done right -- i.e. by hooking into all the mobile things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Scraps deSelby:

Things Gonna Get Better is a awesome compilation
  1:06pm Danee Bwoy:

  1:08pm JakeGould:

@kumar: Yeah, but that would still suck. I mean to open a small business nowadays you have to be a gypsy?
  1:12pm SeanG:

The Emerson brothers!!
  1:15pm Kandia Crazy Horse:

Love dem Emerson Bros., which I cannot recall if I got @ Other or LITA sent to me...Are you gonna spin some Jim Ford, D?
Avatar 1:16pm Duane:

Hi Kandia:) Didn't bring bad boy Jim with me today. Great request tho..lemme dig around and see what's up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm chris:

speaking of small shops, i always wonder how all those small storefronts can support themselves selling luggage and memory sticks and statues of liberty... i suspect money laundering/cartels are involved
Avatar 1:17pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Just tuning in. Nice segue and now I am zooming back to the 80s in my mind.
Avatar 1:18pm drewo:

Living in AZ now, I am still fortunate to visit NYC about five times a year, always paying a visit to Chris and Other Music. Now, like much of old New York, it will become a distant dream. Thanks Duane for being part of one of New York's greatest-ever record stores.
  1:18pm dj:

Nice song Duane. Cover of OMD! Excellent. Makes me cry everytime
  1:18pm SeanG:

great melody OMD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Kat in Chicago:

@JakeGould re your "affordable housing" comment, the same thing is happening in Chicago. Two buildings like that are going up right across the street from where I catch the El downtown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Kat in Chicago:

the El to downtown, that is.
  1:19pm JakeGould:

Something on this “Saxophone” reminds me of OMD.
  1:22pm dj:

Man. This song kills me everytime. I hate being sensitive to music. Its too fing hard.
  1:23pm JakeGould:

@KatinChicago: In Downtown Brooklyn they are basically building a HUGE glass condo city. Everyone nearby—since I used to live around there—all agrees that once those towers get built and populated, it’s going to be d-bag town. Glass towers with a drug store and bank on the ground level? This is not right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Kat in Chicago:

@Jake Ugh, I hate it.
Avatar 1:27pm Jshatan:

Nice reference to If You Don't Like The Effects, Don't Produce The Cause by Brailey's former employers....
  1:28pm Kandia Crazy Horse:

Feelin' this Mighty fffunk!
  1:29pm Eli:

Love the show so far, D. Much love!

Avatar 1:45pm Melomeezy:

@ JakeGould there seriously isn't enough places to creatively pee anymore. I stand in soho with time to kill and its like where the heck can I kill time without consuming alcohol?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Fox (Rā-chul):

"Glass towers with a drug store and bank on the ground level?" Isn't that a perfect description of the hideous New School building on 14th?
Avatar 1:50pm Nick S.:

Great show Duane, as always. Often when I'm listening to your show I want to be thumbing through my thousands of 12" singles thinking, "Do I have that?" Often I do, but just never listened. Today's names are Colonel Abrams and Advance!
Avatar 1:50pm Jshatan:

This beat is making me move in my seat! Hot damn.
Avatar 1:51pm Friends call me Mel:

But this guy has a cool idea. www.thelotradio.com I think I read that he's trying to get a liquor license too.
  1:53pm Brendan:

Diggin' your show Duane!
Avatar 1:54pm Duane:

I've playd on Lot Radio before. It's a great lil setup. I think my set is up on mixcloud somewhere..h/t
  1:54pm Polyus:

Wow, Rhythm Makers track is probably the best song I will hear all week.
Avatar 1:54pm Duane:

Thanks Brendan!!
  1:55pm JakeGould:

@Melomeezy: SoHo is horrible. If I get off the Prince Street station it’s like I have to push (literally) my way through tourists just to leave. Stinks. The few old-school street vendors out there make it bearable.
Avatar 1:55pm Friends call me Mel:

haha Duane I'm so late in the game on it! I'll have to dig it out. He's booking so many great dudes. So I go on the page and there's Jorge live hahahaha
  1:56pm JakeGould:

@Duane: Is this the Lot Radio set you were looking for? www.mixcloud.com...
Avatar 1:57pm Duane:

yeah that's the one Jake!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm JtotheK:

good afternoon everyone.
Avatar 1:58pm Friends call me Mel:

Thanks Jake! I can count on speedy FMU internetterz. Also thanks for that real deal disco transition Duane.
Avatar 1:59pm Friends call me Mel:

Oh Stephanie! I got filled in by a customer about some old school 80s juice recently!
  2:00pm JakeGould:

@FriendscallmeMel: Lot Radio is cool, but it still drives me nuts that anyone wanting to do anything creative has to have a multifaceted endeavor from the get go… You can’t just be a record store, you need to serve pastries and drinks. It’s like everything is an accessory for something else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Kat in Chicago:

I didn't know you played on Lot Radio, Duane, will check that set out. I've been enjoying them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Michael 98145:

Speaking of banks in buildings, it seems like every time a nice, local business fails, it is replaced by a bank branch. What's up with that? I thought online banking was being promoted. Can we suspect they are just hoarding real estate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Michael 98145:

Oh, heck, just dance :)
Avatar 2:18pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

I'ze up here in High Harlem gettin' down..sang it, Brotha Bill
Avatar 2:23pm Jshatan:

Withers & Marx - What a team!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Mick:

Crushed by loss of Other Music/deterioration of New York/general butter slide of civilization. But I have to say this Bill Withers/Bim Marx takes the sting off. At least for the moment. Thanks Duane and train types!
Avatar 2:31pm Sem Chumbo:

Still blissed-out up here on the Train cowcatcher, Duane. Joe Tex just right for this beautiful day. Thx for the spins!
Avatar 2:32pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

I read about Other Music and although I've recently relocated to SoCal from NYC it makes me sad. It seems NYC is going through a new Gilded Age for the 1 percenters.
  2:33pm JakeGould:

@Michael98145: “Can we suspect they are just hoarding real estate?” Pretty much. Also controlling the brick and mortar market the same way that Starbucks opens a cluster of locations to destroy local competitors. Ditto with real estate offices. They open up in NYC nowadays after many small businesses fail.
Avatar 2:33pm βrian:

Someone say something about a Patootie-pie??
  2:37pm BennettCap:

Ain't it the truth.
Avatar 2:40pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

thanks, Duane! great show today. keep up the fight agains the corporatocracy, folks... denying them your $$$ is the only way to win.
Avatar 2:54pm Duane:

Thank you chris!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm chris:
