Hi there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm KRYPT:

Hey Duane, lots of respects to be paid today.
  12:04pm SeanG:

love Billy Paul--thanks Duane!
Avatar 12:04pm Duane:

Hello Chris!! Krypt and the rest of the Trainiacs! Glad to be back:)
  12:04pm oks:

Duane !! finally !! missed you

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Welcome back, Duane!
  12:06pm chicken:

Welcome back!
Avatar 12:09pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Greetings Duane and fellow Duaniacs from SoCal!
Avatar 12:14pm Sem Chumbo:

Back on the Train cowcatcher! Hiya, Duane, and all. Glad you're back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Kat in Chicago:

Missed you, Duane. BLT did good last week though. Are you okay?
  12:14pm Rey:

Welcome back, we sure missed you. Didn't know about Billy Paul...
  12:16pm Meredith Heuer:

Duane, I have to confess that the first thing I thought when I found out that Prince had passed away was, "Oh my God, Duane's show is going to be amazing." Thank you.
Avatar 12:16pm _abby_:

@Meredith same.
  12:17pm robyn:

Hi duane! Glad you're conducting the train, we need you these days
Avatar 12:18pm Duane:

Thanx guys:) You all are the best!!!:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Kat in Chicago:

My first thought was "Duane is going to be so upset!" Second time I've heard of a musician's passing and immediately reacted with concern for a WFMU DJ's mental health - first was Trent when Trish from Broadcast died.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Carmichael:

Hi Duane and trainees.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Kat in Chicago:

"trainees" :)
  12:25pm BennettCap:

Great Malcolm X quote. I just read it last night in my graduate class.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm joe:

I just had a weird realization hearing this song. The original version is probably the first memory of anything I have to have an association with the Beatles.
  12:27pm Polyus:

According to my gf, I just missed hearing Chris Cornell covering Nothing Compares 2 U on the bro-rock station here. I hope you can top that, Duane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

Here's something ironic, Billy Paul covered Purple Rain in his later years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Kat in Chicago:

That sounds like a cool job
  12:30pm robyn:

Beautiful words Duane. It has been lovely despite losing him to hear Prince take over the airwaves, like living in a future world even tho he's gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Gaylord Fields:

Somehow, I missed the news of Billy Paul's passing away, and I'm comforted that I found out here and in this way.

About 7-8 years ago, I saw him perform on voice and solo piano at an intimate event in honor of Kenny Gamble — and the cat was clean! It was a masterful performance, to no surprise.
  12:32pm robyn:

I hope you are putting subliminal messages in those playlists Duane...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm MD:

My Condolences Duane and Listeners...all the stories of Princes generosity Humbles me....What a loss for the world...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm MD:

I am not really a Prince fan....Just a fan of the Human Family and how Good we CAN ALL Be!
  12:36pm paula pc:

thanks, Duane, for sharing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Nardo:

Have been looking forward to this. Thanks Duane.
Avatar 12:37pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Prince. I have to admit after the shock wore off I thought of you and pulled out my copy of your tribute to the Purple One. I danced to a Prince tribute here is San Diego the other night and am happy to say that Prince love is universal. There is a graffiti artist who painted a mural of him last weekend, Purple Rain era, with the words "Dearly Beloved" above it. Indeed he is dearly beloved.
Avatar 12:38pm _abby_:

thanks Duane, appreciate you
  12:38pm rob chapman:

Nice speech Duane. Its not always easy to find the right words but u just did.
  12:40pm oks:

Thank you Duane, needed you badly.. sad time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm chris:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

Listening to this, it just goes to show how in control Prince was. He knew what he wanted and when, he was an amazing band director
  12:46pm paula pc:

@aaron -- 100% true. @duane this is sublime!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Avatar 12:53pm kumar:

aww, I missed a speech?! Tuned in now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Tim 07030:

"Prince, baby, save something for the show!" - Prince's manager who may or not have existed
  12:55pm paula pc:

it never needs to stop
Avatar 12:55pm _abby_:

this is unreal
  12:55pm Kimbers:

Whoa!!! Talk about epic work! It's like you're having him eulogize himself. Both cuts [Screams of Passion - demo and Something in the Water] are just beyond!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm mrdonutsu:

Holey shit. This guitar makes Neil young seem like some sort of guitar store dabbler. Not to mention a band that can actually play...
  12:58pm Kimbers:

...just a side note, your intro regarding making those many playlists: a true bloodletting, if the soul is comprised of such stuff. Working blindly then waiting for the damn to burst -- been there, man. Thanks for your truth and today's show.
Avatar 12:59pm kumar:

omg, the synth on The Line, so creamy
  1:00pm em:

And that bass! Mmm. My work productivity has just shot up several levels.
Avatar 1:04pm Guerin:

I had to stop working and let the music wash over me.
  1:05pm djelrock:

Thank you Duane. Still hurtin'
  1:06pm em:

@Guerin: Yeah, I respect that!
  1:08pm paula pc:

there are probably 50,000-100,000 hours of recordings, right? maybe they should play on some channel on a 7-year loop?
Avatar 1:15pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

OMG! I've been thinking about this song and the scene from Purple Rain with the whole crowd dancing in sync! Thanks for playing this one Duane!
  1:16pm MONEYBAG$:

I found a stash of unreleased stuff a few days ago, and had a 30 hour playlist almost immediately
  1:17pm oks:

WOW! What a treat!!!
Avatar 1:17pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

To be honest, I used to think he was singing about being a Mountaineer, like a lumberjack or something.
Avatar 1:19pm kata:

hello all and Duane ! It's been years since I've been on this comment board.. Of course I wanted to check in for the Prince thing. hope you all are well... still can't believe the purple man is gone..
Avatar 1:20pm kumar:

Duane back on the caffeine :) probably a good thing
  1:23pm wild neil:

rip prince. sorry for your loss Duane.
Avatar 1:26pm βrian:

That ding-a-ling riff in the pause before "kiss" has to be the most recognizable Prince phrase in all of Western culture. ...This, I believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Cliff:

Thank you so much Duane for doing this tribute show.
Avatar 1:34pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Avatar 1:38pm Eli:

Avatar 1:39pm Duane:

Thanks Mark! 'sup Eli??????
Avatar 1:43pm kumar:

I just read that the "vault has been drilled open" and Prince had no will. I guess this means there could be some official releases of stuff. Hmmm.
Avatar 1:44pm Eli:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Mike East:

Damn, I was halfway throught part I of Kurt's tribute and realized you were on the air, probably doin one of your own. Sounding great, Duane! Thanks for the effort
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm KRYPT:

Avatar 1:48pm kata:

this is the first time I've listened to him since he died. nice work Duane <3
Avatar 1:49pm Duane:

Thanx Mike!!! I still have to check out Kurt's tribute. I'm sure it's dope!
Avatar 1:50pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Damn, have to go to a meeting. Will check back in! Loving this show Duane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Just finished making a chocolate pudding pie (no, not a double-decker). From this day forward, I shall always associate such pies with rare Prince tunes. Rest In Pie, as it were.
  1:51pm Kimbers:

[...dang!!! big. ass. smile]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Arne:

Avatar 1:52pm Eli:

Sick production
Avatar 1:54pm cosmic matrix:

i love prince but now that he's passed away we're going to be subjected to all his shit he didn't want us to hear

Avatar 1:54pm cosmic matrix:

sorry to be a hater, i'm not really
  1:55pm djelrock:

This track is incredible. Never released? What a shame. Somebody release this entire song NOW!
Avatar 1:55pm cosmic matrix:

but i think there was a reason why he had a huge vault full of music....as a perfectionist musician myself
  1:55pm Jeff Burkey:

Hey Duane - Can I make a special request for Neon Telephone?
  1:56pm wild neil:

i gotta write a will.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm KRYPT:

This is THE shizz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Goyim in the AM:

Not an unspeakable argument, CosMa, but this is not the track to make it about.
  1:59pm djelrock:

I've learned this year that it doesn't matter how well in shape or how healthy you are, the most important thing is to do something you love. Prince taught me that. Now I need balls to quit my entire life before I go. RIP Majestic Guitar Hero
  2:00pm holland oats:

Oh lordy
  2:00pm Mark V in DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Fuzzy:

  2:01pm Jeff Burkey:

Loving my long CBlue today - just gotta accept it, you know?
Avatar 2:01pm cobradan:

Hopefully Prince has a noise album in the vault.
  2:01pm oks:

  2:02pm Mark V in DC:

Oh, it's still going
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm KRYPT:

Thanx soooo much Duane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm chris:

  2:04pm Jeff Turkey:

If Prince really wanted to be popular amongst hipster whites, he'd release an album of guitar feedback - true art!
Avatar 2:05pm βrian:

That would be market penetration, I presume.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Goyim in the AM:

I think Brown Mark produced Mazarati, no?
  2:09pm Mark V in DC:

"I like that he knows his Prince" - Jeff Burkey via text
  2:10pm djelrock:

I was gonna go on Sat to WFMURF2016 but Greenpoint is so freaking far from Philly and everytime I go I GET SUPER LOST. Its all I wanted to do this year but oh well.
  2:10pm Mark V in DC:

Multiple Duane show convos happening simultaneously!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm JtotheK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Julie:

We missed you last week, Duane, so glad you're doing this today!
  2:12pm windy city soul:

What an incredible artist to go it "alone" ....and get closer to this FANS
he taught us so much
thanks for the Tribute Duane
  2:12pm Ari:

Love how the gently pulsing underbeat provides the pillow to lay all those vocals on top. Almost mantric...
  2:13pm Jeff Turkey:

IN ALL MY DREAMS - you just made my day!
  2:13pm Mark V in DC:

This must be from cassette, I swear I can hear the warping as wheels turn
Avatar 2:13pm Eli:

"This song is THE BEST" - Jeff Burkey via Prince text
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Makes you wonder ... How long until we on Earth will see another person of this magnitude of musical talent. We were blessed by having him among us these short years.
  2:16pm Mark V in DC:

Jeff is now Jeff Turkey, please address previous messages.
  2:16pm Jeff Turkey:

Goodness will guide us if love is inside us
  2:17pm Mark V in DC:

Jeff Turkey and I drove from Pittsburgh to Paisley Park for spring break in college, 1999 in fact. We arrived with no plans on a Wednesday afternoon. The gate was open and we went to the front door. There were two other guys from Chicago doing the same thing at the same time. We took photos, but were asked to leave.
  2:19pm paula pc:

duane, thank you for sharing your own Vault. and thanks belatedly for that marathon premium...
  2:20pm rob chapman:

was anybody else waiting for the moment in Computer Blue where you were sure he was going to launch into Star Spangled Banner?
  2:20pm Jeff Turkey:

That in fact did happen - Prince's popularity could not have been lower in winter 1999 - I'm certain most people assumed he wasn't alive even then
  2:20pm Mark V in DC:

Rob, he could just go into America from Around The World, right?
  2:22pm Mark V in DC:

"Train - classic tune. from DREAM FACTORY" - Jeff Turkey, via Prince themed text msg

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Parq:

Thanks, especially, for this live "Controversy". I never got to see Prince on stage, and a little bit of performance footage I've seen on video (plus the "Purple Rain" performance sequences) gives me the idea that I missed a lot.
  2:38pm djelrock:

The 1st song I ever heard of Prince and LOVED. Sadly, my LP was "lost" by my drug adeld bro. Great choice D.

Mark - keeping up the cutesy Tipper Gore don't mean shit in my house vibe she then sang the first verse of Most Beautiful Girl perfectly after only hearing it twice -now THAT was when I finally shed some tears
  2:47pm djelrock:

What was in the water in Minneapolis/St. Paul that encouraged this much musical creativity? The Replacements and Husker Du were also from there. Seminal bands all.
  2:50pm Mark V in DC:

Rob - Most Beautiful Girl In The World is a great song. You're daughter has good taste. Or is a human
Avatar 2:50pm Sem Chumbo:
