A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

i really have to remember that sitting in the living room at my desk in the mornings just does NOT jibe with the later-waking housemate walking in and turning on the teevee very loud.. no clue

Enjoying this Billy Paul, who passed away just the other day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am sphere:

So far, this Billy Paul version might be my favorite, even over Dusty Springfield.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am tiago:

Billy Paul here sounds like Nina Simone...

Great Billy Paul track. So glad to hear something other than you know what.

i've never heard of Billy Paul before he died and i feel remiss

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am sphere:

isn't that "horse's mane on both sides"?
Avatar 9:46am bobdoesthings:

@trouble - isn't everyday 'earth day' ??
  9:48am Sam:

Bob, that's a little Eartho-centric, the other planets deserve days too!
  9:50am Listener Robert:

Ken from Hyde, did I ever mention the chicken kept in the yard of the guy who lived across the street (and whose unsecured Wi-Fi we used) here in the Bronx? And where I used to live, about a quarter mile from here as the chicken doesn't fly, someone in the neighborhood had a rooster whose crowing scared our dog.
Avatar 9:51am bobdoesthings:

@sam - you're so right.. ugh now I'm embarrassed. darn my eartho-normative upbringing. I blame my earth parents
  9:51am Sam:

It's ok. It's all you've ever known.
  9:51am Listener Robert:

This sounds a little like some of Kevin Nutt's bad music.

I was raised by astronauts, so I grew up on a bunch of different planets. I kept changing schools, it was tough. But I learned a lot. Lots of languages especially.

@trouble the Bradley performance on Saturday was fantastic. I found out about it last minute. I decided to do something other than sit in my living room and work on the computer!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am sphere:

in Baltimore, small venues will often hide their locations. In those cases, you have to rely on hipness to find out where the place. what i was wondering is, does this happen elsewhere?
Avatar 10:08am dc pat:

we have underground joints all over DC. I've been to several of those shows, somebody's basement packed with sweaty kids mostly.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am ausmanx:

the unlicensed venues are happening more and more all over, sphere and pat. jon rose published a long article recently referring to The People's Republic in Sydney (which is actually my house) and explaining why this is one of the necessary models around the world... www.realtimearts.net... it seems to be becoming pretty prevalent all over europe.
Avatar 10:16am dc pat:

Little background: "this is where we came in" In the olden days, they used to play films in theaters continuously, so you may come in in the middle then watch the next showing up to the point where you came in. Fact.
Avatar 10:16am Trouble:

apparently i am heavy on the gorgeous male vocals this morning: billy paul, james hunter, brian ferry
Avatar 10:17am Trouble:

and how can i forget james mcnew?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Listener Robert - I hadn't heard those chicken stories, but I'm glad I've heard them now.
  10:25am judy from croton:

All for gorgeous males, trouble. oh, and vocals, also.
  10:26am judy from croton:

DC Pat, your daughter picked a good egg.
Avatar 10:27am dc pat:

Ha! She actually did, he seems like a great guy.
Avatar 10:28am βrian:

The male vocals among chickens is not so gorgeous, unfortunately. But the softer voices of the hens are quite nice.

i'd go with "first husband."

Avatar 10:49am Trouble:

Avatar 10:49am bobdoesthings:

it's weird.. not like I know what I'm talking about.. but it seemed like Bernie was/is tied up with Hillary .. but media and dumb mouth breathers are just assuming Hillary.. but what do I know.
  10:49am melinda:

But it amuses me to think of Bill in the first spouse role. The First Lady thing is so entrenched in the cultural history of the presidency.

  11:14am famous original sugarwolf:

@bobdoesthings: who gets married on record fair weekend??

Unless one got married at the record fair, then it's ok
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am JP from KC:

@bobdoesthings: I hear you can rent it on vimeo. That's what I plan to do, as there are no showings in my area, and I don't want to wait for the DVD.
Avatar 11:19am bobdoesthings:

@jp from kc -oh really?? well.. I do plan on buying the DVD ... I think it is being released may 20-something ish.. so I guess I'll just wait

@FO Sugarwolf - I know, right?!?! Well they're from upstate.. maybe they just don't know.
Avatar 11:19am Kevlicki:

@bobdoesthings & JP, I finally caught it a couple weeks ago and so happy I finally got to see it. Well done, informative and entertaining.
Avatar 11:23am bobdoesthings:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am JP from KC:

Dude. I want that awesome poster.
  11:30am melinda:

@bob: so they're releasing a download and not an actual DVD? Bummer, yes. I feel so behind the times. Still have a bunch of vhs tapes too (also I'm on mobile device and can't access the link to get the answer to my question)
Avatar 11:30am bobdoesthings:

has anyone ever purchased a movie from iTunes? I know I will never order digital music from Amazon b/c you don't get to actually own the mp3 files.. you have to get the amazon app.. and make an account.. and all this nonsense so that you keep returning to amazon.. I just want to pay money and own something that I can watch whenever I want... that's the one huge downside of digital files and stuff..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Ken From Hyde Park:

If you missed Earth Day, fear not! Arbor Day is coming up on Friday. www.arborday.org...
Avatar 11:31am bobdoesthings:

@melinda - not 100% sure.. just judging by what the site says, which is "digital release" ... Which I'm okay with as long as I get the movie file and can watch whenever I want and not like how on Amazon you need an acct.. and an app to download .. and you can't just GET the thing you paid for..
  11:32am SeanG:

dcpat is gonna say something about the kinks! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Adrian in London:

Hey, late to the show. Listened to last week's yesterday but had to break off to listen to Santiago Cordoba's album in full. That track you played, 19 Horas, was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am tomasz.:

re owning mp3 files from Amazon: if you just move them from the default download folder to another folder on your computer, you get to keep them. or make copies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am JtotheK:

re: the WFMU Documentary -- I was excited to find it available on a (legit) streaming service that I use (Fandor - which has a lot of classic and cult films). Not sure for how long, I watched it 2 weeks ago.
Avatar 11:40am bobdoesthings:

@tomasz - hmm.. I forget now. I'm pretty computer literate I just remember being really ticked off that I had to download some amazon music player app... and had to jump through hoops to get what I paid for.. idk... even if you CAN get the files.. the trouble of the whole thing is enough that I'll never consider buying music (or at least digital downloads) from amazon ever again. Like REALLY?! I need another friggin APP.. yeh, no thanks. I'll go elsewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Adrian in London:
