Good morning Chris M. , yet again you provide a fine listening experience in a safe and enjoyable setting where listeners can come together, unfettered by the man.

@Brendan: thanks. i am planning on spending two hours talking to Andy Breckman about his new kickstarter campaign today.

that was great.

Avatar 9:57am dc pat:

gotta hear more of that PJ album. All about DC for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am sphere:

PJ took a trip there. DC's Community of Hope (a group that inspired the song title) is furious with PJ's negative portrayal of the city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am MD:

Good lord . I remember 1970s bowling on TV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Stevel:

Avatar 10:02am dc pat:

@sphere: yep, seems like she just dropped in took a look around and wrote some tunes about how much DC sucks. Not too impressed with the title tune.
Avatar 10:04am Chris M.:

@dc pat: pretty sure you are mistaken about that.
Avatar 10:07am dc pat:

@Chris M: I am too. Gross over-simplification. She took 2 tours with a film-maker I believe.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am sphere:

Here's an article about one of PJ Harvey's tours:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Ĩkє:

I'm with Chris on this one. Anyway most of the PJ Harvey album is about different places, if I'm not mistaken. I'm impressed that "The Wheel" seems to be about murdered and/or missing children, possibly in eastern Europe? Intense stuff. Coincidentally, the first place I ever heard PJ Harvey was on the D.C. area's WHFS in the early 90s, BTW.
Avatar 10:13am Cecile:

man, that sucks about Chyna.
She could have sustained some kind of injury from back in that day and who knows what happened.
Avatar 10:14am Sem Chumbo:

Lovely thing you're playing just now, Chris.
Avatar 10:14am dc pat:

Well, her seemingly one-dimensional portrayal of DC as an outsider is not being taken very well around these parts, that's all I'm saying. But I've only heard the tune once and it didn't stick with me.
  10:15am Polyus:

Agree with Sem, this is really good.
Avatar 10:16am Chris M.:

@Cliff @Sem Chumbo @Polyus: thanks
  10:17am mink:

does anyone know what's up with the homepage?
Avatar 10:18am Cecile:

I feel like being critical of DC at this point is like kicking someone just as they are trying to get up off the ground. Also, it's not like this territory hasn't been covered inside and out.

I'd like someone to show Minneapolis warts and all besides the First 48.

  10:47am ?:

Work sucks. Saw the PJ Harvey thread. I guess she got a tour guide that showed her what she wanted to see. Yea DC has its bad spots. Here's a nice place I'd a taken her to as well. Its tucked in a neighborhood right close to the 'pathway of death' she describes.

Mats Gustafsson is a great improviser. If you can hone into him even a little, he'll take you the rest of the way.

Avatar 10:57am dc pat:

eh, don't like that one Ike. We actually DO know how fucked up DC can look to outsiders. I just think her lyrics are weak. I'd rather people get a view of DC from tunes like "Devitilze" by Chain and the Gang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am sphere:

BTW, the Washingtonian article was written by a former member of Teen Beat act the Eggs.

Oh yeah, Kenilworth Aquatic garden is an amazing oasis. Love that place.
  11:07am Dean:

Yeah, Ashcroft, and now Chris tells me it would have been even better if Peter Hook had played on it.
Avatar 11:08am mark r:

I first discovered the Limiñanas about 4 years ago when I had a show on a college radio station in Ann Arbor. I fell in with them right away. Glad to see they've got a new album out!
Avatar 11:08am Cecile:

would that be wcbn, mark? I had a show there from 1983-7
Avatar 11:09am dc pat:

  11:10am Brendan:

Dcp, That was me had to post from work pc, phone was on life support. Kenilworth is amazing in mid July when the lotuses cover the place for acres.
Avatar 11:10am markreichard:

Cool Cecile. I think we might have had this discussion once before. Of course you're aware that station mgr Ken had a show there, too, and probably some other FMU-ers. There seems to be kind of an Ann Arbor-NJ pipeline.
Swag For Life Member 11:11am Alfredo Garcia:

does ed special still do shows on cbn?
Avatar 11:11am markreichard:

Too bad their archives only go back a couple years. I'd love to hear some of your shows. I can't even access most of mine, and it wasn't that long ago. :( FMU has just about everybody beat, technology-wise, IMHO. All there interactivity and time-wasting content on the website makes FMU a multimedia orgy of pleasure
Avatar 11:12am Cecile:

THAT WAS Awesome. Also, I liked how all their hair looks like wigs even though it's their own.
Avatar 11:12am Mark R:

"A Multi-media orgy of Pleasure" is available as a station slogan, I haven't copywriter it.
Avatar 11:14am Cecile:

Mark, if I find my old playlists, I'll send you a copy of some of them.
Avatar 11:14am dc pat:

@Cecile: yeah they're pretty cool. The bass player plays with Ex Hex now and she totally rules. The drummer is Anna Nxsty, AKA Olivia Neutron John, totally off the hook electronic craziness.
Avatar 11:15am dc pat:

Avatar 11:15am mark r:

Copywritten I mean. I don't believe so Alfredo. You can check their schedule. Cecile, I'd love to see them. I think you can access my email on the site here if you search Circle Time, that's my show when I do fill-ins.
Avatar 11:16am βrian:

CBN is still a great station, though they do waste a lot of air time for events announcements.
  11:20am Dean:

Technically, you can't copyright a slogan. You can trademark it. But if you could copyright it, you wouldn't have to do anything to protect it. Once you fix the expression to a tangible medium of expression -- i.e., "write it down" -- it's copyrighted. If it were copyrighted, you could dedicate it to the public domain or license it under Creative Commons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Ike:

Wish I could make it to Dälek's thing at the Bell House tomorrow night....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am common:

good days all off to be a jerk. thanks chris!
Avatar 11:27am mark r:

Well, in any case, Brian, I'm making my slogan thingie public domain, to be used as anyone wishes. Or ignored, which may be the best use for it.
Avatar 11:29am βrian:

Speaking of, does onanism fall under Fair Use?
  11:29am Dean:

The Slogan Ouroboros: Ignore this Slogan!
  11:32am Dean:

Well, let's consider the four factors:

1. The purpose and character of the use
2. The nature of the work
3. The amount and substantiality of the portion taken
4. The effect of the use upon the potential market.

It's the last one that'll get you. There's a healthy market you're circumventing when you copy Onan.
Avatar 11:34am Chris M.:
