  8:06pm P-90:

Saw some old footage of him appear this afternoon on a cable news channel. I said "uh-oh..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm timurf:

I just heard the news minutes ago. But I am thankful as there are few better ways to celebrate Merle than by listening to one of my favorite radio programs in commemoration.
Avatar 8:07pm Becky:

Hi, everyone. This is one of the hardest things I've ever done! I'm glad we're all here together.
Avatar 8:09pm Cheri Pi:

Nowhere I'd rather be than here with you Becky
Avatar 8:10pm dale:

sam hill is surprisingly like sam's place. is it the same sam?
  8:10pm P-90:

@Becky: almost my first thought when I heard was: It's Wednesday, HTRG will be on there with an instant memorial...

if we make it through december is one of my absolute favorite songs any time of the year.
  8:15pm diegobritt:

Sam Hill made me think it was Tom T Hall song. It sounded like him. But it was a Tommy Collins song.... how about that...
  8:25pm diegobritt:

Thanks for these seldom heard Merle tracks!
Avatar 8:25pm JakeGould:

A death is sad, but the memories of an artist last pretty much forever. So hey.
  8:27pm Stuart Rose:

Great tribute, Becky.
How fortunate for us that your show is on the evening of this sad day.
  8:28pm SeanG:

damn i can relate to this song a couple years ago. haha!
Avatar 8:30pm KP:

Tell it, SeanG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Merle was a prisoner in the audience in 1958 when Johnny Cash played at Folsom Prison.
Avatar 8:31pm Julea:

Thanks for all the great tunes tonight Becky. <3
Avatar 8:32pm Becky:

You got it, Julea. And everybody else!
Avatar 8:32pm Julea:

It has been appropriately cloudy and stormy all day here in Nashville.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm ericd:

Drinking a glass a wine for Merle now, and I'm in the corner crying'
Avatar 8:34pm PsychopathJimFields:

I feel like I'm listening to WHN in 1972. That is a very, very good thing :)

Hey! Look up there. It Cheri Pi :)
Avatar 8:34pm KP:

My sister-in-law and family lived in Palo Cedro, where he lived and died. A week after my last visit, he gave the town a shout out on the Grammys. i couldnt believe it.
Avatar 8:35pm Marc Francis:

Thanks for this Becky.
Avatar 8:37pm JakeGould:

Word is: Irma Jackson is one helluva project!
Avatar 8:40pm dale:

pitchin' woo - wow! it's no heavy pettin' but i'll take it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

As I read on Metafilter today, Merle released Irma Jackson right after Okie, so he had quite the range of material
Avatar 8:40pm Cheri Pi:

That's great KP!

I'm proud to be a hippie from Ypsilanti.
More or less.
Avatar 8:47pm Julea:

I love that clip of Roy Buchanan and Roy Nichols playing this one with Merle back in the day. Buchanan hits some other-worldly notes in that one.
Avatar 8:47pm dale:

this is some pretty clean sounding vinyl.
Avatar 8:47pm JakeGould:

@Dominick: It’s alright?
Avatar 8:48pm JakeGould:

Excellent show.

Avatar 8:50pm JakeGould:

Hey. Suddenly 91.1FM sounds weaker and a bit staticky in Bay Ridge. Anyone else?
  8:51pm diegobritt:

Thank you Becky....
  8:56pm P-90:

I was at the Iridium club in midtown a few years back, for Les Paul's regular Monday night gig. Musicians visiting town would often turn up there, often jump onstage and banter with Les, maybe do a number of two with the band. Merle walked in (with Keith Richards and Paul Shaeffer in tow), he came up and played and sang, and spoke a little about his admiration for Les. He was digging being in the big city, and just amazed that everyone knew who he was... Something you never forget.
Avatar 8:56pm dale:

thanks honky tonk girl - heartfelt show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Alex of Chicago:

Yes, thank you. Wonderful show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm TR In MI:

Thanks Becky for the great tribute. This one will get repeat listening in the days to come.
Avatar 8:58pm dale:

i saw willie and johnny and dwight in manhattan, but tammy wynette at the bottom line blew them all out of the water.

  9:02pm djelrock:

Good show
Avatar 11:51am Brian in UK:

Great instant tribute, Becky. Time will be needed to fully absorb the man's lasting worth.
He was never so big over here for obvious reasons but a good songwriter will cross all borders. Thanks.
  3:43pm Ben:

Awesome, thanks so much! Getting me through the day.
  8:24am ditty from neptune city:

"What Country Was" song that Nashville-bound Nicole Atkins performed at last fall's outdoor Hoboken Arts & Music Festival kept rolling through my mind,

Merle's Buck Owens & Johnny Cash impersonations are a riot
  11:58am Marie:

Thanks for the great song selections, Becky. I am being schooled in Merle since he passed away. I never knew how great he was.
  10:04am okie from muskogee:

I don't think anyone remembered Glen Jones interviewing Merle Haggard on WFMU. Here that is, July 5, 2004, when Merle came up on a rare area appearance to play at B.B. King's
