Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm JP from KC:

Hiya, Liz! I'm loving this new Explosions in the Sky track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Cliff:

Hi Liz! I haven't heard Explosions in the Sky in a while, thanks for playing them :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm common:

hey liz and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Liz Berg:

Greetings all! Special show today: live music from Chicago's ONO coming up around 1:30pm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Michael in Seattle:

Thanks again ,Liz. A great way to wake up here on the left coast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Afternoon, Liz and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Adrian in London:

Hey, Ken from Hyde Park: are you there?!
Avatar 12:23pm just dc pat:

Great Khun Narin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Adrian. Just cooling out to Tacocat and having some lunch. How are you today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Private Presley:

Hard Rain's Gonna Fall in Seattle
Avatar 12:27pm just dc pat:

Tacocat = bad name; Adult Books = great name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm chad from oregon:

It's a week later and I still have the Meat Sweats! Goodness!
Avatar 12:29pm just dc pat:

Great new Prince Rama!
Avatar 12:30pm just dc pat:

Mind Spiders = bad; Khun Narin Electric Phin Band = great
Avatar 12:31pm The Contessa:

Ha, Ken in HP, you're still there. We wanted to wish you a happy birthday! Enjoy the cake! See you on Friday
Avatar 12:33pm just dc pat:

wow. Yeah, Prince Rama looking pretty dumb now. Sheesh.
  12:33pm Polyus:

Yes, promotion seems to be the one thing Prince Rama are good at.
Avatar 12:34pm just dc pat:

They definitely follow there own unique muse..
  12:36pm rw:

Tacocat is a palindrome but still may not be a great name for a band. It did cause me to take notice though...
Avatar 12:38pm just dc pat:

so is shitytish, also not a good name. Although Bozozob might be..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Contessa & Adrian. When I count my blessings, chocolate cake is certainly one of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm JP from KC:

I disagree. Shitytish is an awesome band name, and not a palindrome. the last "s" and "h" would have to be switched.
Avatar 12:44pm just dc pat:

see? bad group name and NOT in fact a palindrome... I still like Bozozob though..
  12:45pm rw:

JP from KC, I'm pretty sure my friend Wade used to have that very view of the Western Auto sign from the back porch of his condominium.
  12:48pm rw:

Never get tired of Mulatu Astatke. Sorry to hear of his passing.
  12:49pm rw:

I mean Getatchew Mekurya
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm JP from KC:

@RW: Nice! It's one of my favorite KC landmarks.
Avatar 12:50pm just dc pat:

Best song name ever: Spiro Agnew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Well, Iceland's Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson has resigned because of the Panama Papers scandal. Thus, Björk moves one step closer to leading the country.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Liz Berg:

Ha ha, I can't resist a song called Spiro Agnew!
Avatar 12:52pm just dc pat:

well if your dad's name is "Gunnlaugs," what do you expect?
Avatar 12:53pm just dc pat:

let's see...what's Bjork's dad's name...
Avatar 12:54pm just dc pat:

well..a little better: Guðmunds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Cliff:

"Gunnlaugs" is in genitive case, the nominative is probably "Gunnlaug"
Avatar 12:55pm just dc pat:

I thought that "s" might be wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Cliff:

Actually I think it's "Gunnlaugr"
Avatar 12:57pm just dc pat:

The big prob with Gunnlaugsson is that he campaigned on "cleaning up the banking industry." What a chump..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm going to put Panama Papers on my list of band names to use some day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Cliff:

There's the Saga of Gunnlaugr Serpent-Tongue, or "Gunnlaugs saga ormstungu" in Old Norse: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 12:59pm just dc pat:

My next group will be Guðmundr
Avatar 1:00pm just dc pat:

..that'll teach Bjork...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Cliff:

I should change my name to Cliffr Serpent-Tongue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Liz Berg:

Panama Papers is indeed a great band name, Ken!
  1:07pm oks:

Swag For Life Member 1:16pm BarbR:

The Levitation Austin festival schedule is up: levitation-austin.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Liz Berg:

Looks like a killer fest lineup, Barb!
Avatar 1:21pm Chris from DC:

Would love to see Golden Dawn. I've seen George Kinney solo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm MD:

I love Speed happy Tune!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm MD:

Speed and Happy...How could one go Wrong!!!???
Please don't tell my Sponsor I said that!
Avatar 1:27pm geezerette:

Speed Happy Tune sounds like an early Anime series title.

Hi you guys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Cliff:

Hi geezerette :)
Avatar 1:29pm geezerette:

Cliff! :)
Avatar 1:30pm βrian:

"Natter nabobs of negativism," and all that.
Avatar 1:31pm just dc pat:

"Spiro Agnew" could be the likely answer to 95% of any questions, I think. Go ahead ask me a question...
Avatar 1:31pm geezerette:

haha, Spiro Agnew, master of alliteration!
  1:31pm ?:

@Ken, the list of US of A participants should be entertaining.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm MD:

Hey Pat...Who sank the Titanic???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Cliff:

just dc pat: Who screwed up the DC Metro?
Avatar 1:33pm geezerette:

um...Spiro Agnew?
Avatar 1:33pm just dc pat:

No, not those questions...
Avatar 1:38pm geezerette:

Did you know Spiro Agnew started in Vaudeville with an animal act?
He had trained parakeets. Billed as Spiro and his Amazing Spirokeets.
Avatar 1:44pm βrian:

He did resign?? Wow, how long could it be until Romney's name pops up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Fox (Rā-chul):

That Travis fellow has a speaking voice strikingly similar to George Takei.
Avatar 1:48pm Cecile:

He also sounds like Green Velvet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm blee:

ONO sounds great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm common:

this is pretty great
Avatar 1:55pm Cecile:

their last performance was also amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm steveo:

the stereo mix on this is intense
Avatar 1:56pm Cecile:

I was going to comment on that. Mario is doing a hell of a job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm steveo:

had to mute for a second to see if someone needed help outside ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I like that Ono's web site includes a statement of purpose.
Avatar 2:02pm Cecile:

Wow! Samual Delaney!
Heavy stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Liz Berg:

Yeah, Mario did a killer job with the mix! Here's more about Dhalgren:
Avatar 2:04pm βrian:

I couldn't find a web site. Only a FB page.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Liz Berg:

Here's Ono's site:
Avatar 2:04pm Cecile:

Dhalgren is a notoriously difficult book. I have started it several times.
  2:09pm Polyus:

Worth the effort, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm maestroso:

Difficult but rewarding if you stay with it. I re-read it every few years.
  2:13pm Playing with Matches:

Absolutely fascinating discussion
  2:14pm Playing with Matches:

Thank you for the Dhalgren link!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Kat in Chicago:

Oh wow, I forgot this was happening today.
Avatar 2:17pm just dc pat:

man...this is great. We need more groups that talk this way about their music..
  2:17pm rf:

Ack! How did I miss this? This is so great... can't wait to go back and listen to the archives. Thanks Liz!
Avatar 2:17pm geezerette:

Survival Research Laboratory, similar purpose, primarily visual take with sound as well. If you love Ono you'll find this very interesting.
Aesthetic soul mates.
Avatar 2:18pm Cecile:

please also listen to the 2014 session, just as cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Liz Berg:

Here's Ono's 2014 session:
Avatar 2:28pm Cecile:

holy crap. this is deep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Alejandro in TO:

Great to hear this Liz, will have to catch up as well as listen to the 2014! This 'eve will be an archival one...
Avatar 2:29pm Cecile:

It's like the extreme wing of the Catholic church - suffering is to be pursued.
Avatar 2:33pm Cecile:

People have compared Canada to a salad.
Avatar 2:34pm geezerette:

Street preaching. This is so strong, thanks Liz!
Avatar 2:35pm Jeff:

These guys were amazing to see performing, to see how the people and the pieces of the music come together.

...and it makes total sense that the dreamlike dystopian soundscape and sightscape and the intense man all in white should have been inspired by Dhalgren in particular and Delany in general. Now I think I should have just known.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Alejandro in TO:

Toronto has been described as one of the most "multicultural" cities in the world, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Liz Berg:

Glad you guys are digging the interview! Such a fascinating group of people in Ono, super excited they wanted to share their stories.
Avatar 2:41pm Jeff:

I assume it's not supposed to make sense... but you read it, you experience it like a fever dream, and it leaves dream residue in your mind.

Highly recommended.
  2:45pm Polyus:

It is also worth tracking down Delany's autobiography, The Motion of Light in Water. So many little details from his life end up in his fiction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm sphere:

doesn't Delany live in New York City? he might be listening, for all we know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm sphere:

one day i'll finish Dhalgren. one day. this i vow!
  2:49pm paula pc:

millionth person saying -- see Ono live when-/wherever you can
  2:51pm Polyus:

The one time they made it to my town, I missed them due to other obligations. Got there right after they finished, as all my friends streamed out saying "that was unbelievable".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Liz Berg:

For those in Chicago, check out Ono live on April 15th at Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.
  2:56pm Polyus:

Take a bow Liz, this was fantastic.
  2:57pm david from radioactive ks:

,,,,now that conversation was way more interesting than the Opana trip to Austin, Indiana (?) on NPR `s embeded !
Swag For Life Member 2:57pm BarbR:

Thanks, Liz! Phenomenal show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm chris:

thanks, Liz! that... was... awesome!
Avatar 2:59pm Jeff:

@Polyus: +1 on The Motion of Light in Water.
Avatar 2:59pm Shaun(ununun):

I missed the second half of the conversation. But I've been looking forward to this since you played them last week!

Thank you Liz, for having them on your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Tour dates for Ono. www.songkick.com... Currently just showing the Chicago gig, so check back later!
Avatar 3:45pm Shaun(ununun):

notdiychi.com... = the information for Ono's show on April 15th, in Chicago. You have to write notdiychi under their 'contact' tab. I doubt that I'll be able to make it from Milwaukee, although I'd love to go. But there's the link for anyone interested, who can make it.
