Kevin Kastning & Mark Wingfield live on WFMU

Live performance and chat withKevin Kastning and Mark Wingfield
Jazz-inflected guitar with heavily edgy but atmospheric overtones is how you might describe Mark Wingfield's performance style. Wingfield is based in the UK, and frequently collaborates with Kevin Kastning, a master of multi-stringed contra-guitars. Mark and Kevin recently released "Eleven Rooms," a collaborative album inspired by the art of Johannes Vermeer. Mark Wingfield and Kevin Kastning visited WFMU to celebrate the album's release and recorded a set of improvisational guitar pieces for Irene's show.

Listener comments!

  9:03pm Listener Robert:

Jonathan Richman sings that nobody paints the sexy like Vermeer -- except his daughter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Folsom:

I'm such a sucker for Bill Frisell and Greg Leisz.
  9:27pm miketp:

Nice trippy Kurt cut.
  9:27pm JakeGould:

John Currin and Lisa Yuskavage paint the sexy pretty well nowadays.
  9:34pm jon:

hi irene and listeners
Avatar 9:39pm Van in DC:

Oh, it's Tuesday, Hi Irene
  9:46pm Brendan:

Hello people
  9:55pm Cheryl & Jean-Pierre:

Hi Irene, Kevin & Mark - Listening in Massachusetts and enjoying! Thank you for an interesting, enjoyable broadcast!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! I'm a bit behind in comments tonight. Glad you're enjoying the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Watching basketball in the studio, eh Irene? Why not?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Irene Trudel:

Ken, if it were the Mets game, that might be true (but they already played today.) ;D
  10:36pm Harley Belle:

These live sessions are always a gift. Thank you Irene and Kevin and Mark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Harley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm Santos L. Halper:

Hey Irene. Late cuz i was out seeing Dave Rawlings Machine. So, so good. Hearing them on your show recently convinced me to go; thanks for that! And your guests tonight sounded interesting, will be sure to archive later...
  10:51pm Carmichael:

Heya Irene. I saw Metheny many years ago, great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Irene Trudel:

HI Santos! Isn't Dave great? Carmichael, I've seen Metheny a few times in everything from a trio to a large band. Always interesting and inventive.
  11:09pm Carmichael:

I saw him with about 7 people, and a brazilian singer that just did "la la" stuff that was mesmerizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Irene Trudel:

Sounds like one of the ensembles I saw Pat with. One year at the Newport Jazz Festival, Metheny was playing something on guitar synth with his trio. The seagulls were "screeling" along. He'd play something and they'd answer back. Really beautiful.
  11:27pm JakeGould:

TACOCAT! The band’s name is TACOCAT!

Ah, a palindrome! I stand corrected, Jake and Marshall. I've been saying I need a new pair of glasses...

  11:32pm JakeGould:

@IreneTrudel: If this makes you feel any better, on days where my eyes are really tired I’ve mistaken mannequins in local stores for real people. I mean these stores do a good job of dressing these mannequins up but still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Irene Trudel:

Yep, I've been staring at a computer screen way too long today. A bit cross-eyed now!
  11:43pm JakeGould:

FWIW, “The Tacocat band…” played at a Bernie Sander’s rally in Seattle. So hey… www.thestranger.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Irene Trudel:

Never will I forget Tacocat again! Now I just have to hear them.
  11:50pm Carmichael:

On those words I'll say "goodnight one and all."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

That's a good palindrome. One time, I was trying to come up with palindromes and the result is "gold log." Have a good week.
  12:01am JakeGould:

@Carmichael: They got good danish?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Great live set from Kevin and Mark and as always a fab show, thank you, Irene
