Live performance by Collapsible Shoulder (Kevin Bud Jones: keyboards, electronics /Kato Hideki,: bass /Brian Chase: drums /Chris Cochrane: guitar, vocals)
(Listen to this set: Pop‑up)
A quartet of vets from NYC's Downtown/Brooklyn Music scenes come together to form Collapsible Shoulder's trippy-tronica sound. Guitarist Chris Cochrane pulled the ensemble together, featuring Brian Chase, Kato Hideki, and Kevin Bud Jones. "e v e r y w h e r e" is Collapsible Shoulder's debut, and they describe it as "neo-psychedelic with unpredictable twists and turns, an electronic-acoustic-sonic mash." Collapsible Shoulder played live on Irene's show.

Listener comments!

Hello Irene!
  9:04pm P-90:

Could use a little Trudeliverance from Marathon Madness right about now. Hi Irene and assembled.
  9:06pm P-90:

And that there is one pretty Eiffel Tower.

Good evening!

Part Timer kind of reminds me of The Books, but in a good way ...
Avatar 9:18pm Van in DC:

Hey! I am a FMU supporter, AND have collapsible shoulder! Well, broken collar bone anyway. Oh so close.

Still so angry at myself for missing last week live. Hi Irene.
  9:20pm Listener Robert:

Who was the one at Hoof & Mouth who pronounced Ms. Trudel's last name like strudel, i.e. stress on the 1st syllable? And how many of us were shouting back, "truDEL!"?
  9:21pm Listener Robert:

Was it Becky, the Honky-Tonk Girl?
  9:22pm Listener Robert:

No, not Becky, I meant your m.c., Ms. Firestone?
Avatar 9:25pm Van in DC:

As I have just listened to SVE for 3 hours straight, sorry Irene, but FMU can't top that. Nobody could.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Power to you Van in DC.
Avatar 9:25pm Van in DC:

Thx RRN63
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Van & everybody! Just getting set for Collapsible Shoulder (Van, you're now an honorary member). Robert, it was Jo Firestone, the MC, who mispronounced my name. But I'm really used to it.
  9:27pm JakeGould:

And Jo Firestone is a nice person. And “Pobody’s Nerfect.”
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:29pm YETI BOB:

Cul de Sac were great and sort of underappreciated.
  9:30pm hola-soymilk:

I didn't know there was another way to pronounce Trudel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm melinda:

I like your duet at Hoof & Mouth, Irene.
  9:31pm Listener Robert:

Sometimes announcers will do that as shtick. Howard Stern did that with Tamara Clark's 1st name, stressing the 2nd syllable, and the P.A. announcer at a NY Sharks football game put the stress on the 2nd syllable of Val Monaco's last name.
  9:31pm hola-soymilk:

Feel better soon, Van
Avatar 9:32pm Van in DC:

Many thanks hola-soymilk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

That was a hell of a jam. This Kottke fellow has a nice way w/ it too I suppose...
Avatar 9:34pm Van in DC:

Such a pleasure to have this show back on full tilt!

The goal is still reachable.
Avatar 9:44pm Van in DC:

Just put a new donation for four shows all around, primarily this one.
  9:47pm JakeGould:

Van! Look at this! You suffered a similar fate to a member of this band!

Good thoughts to you in all of this but hey!
Avatar 9:49pm Van in DC:

Thanks :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Jake! By the way, nice meeting you at the marathon last Saturday night. I now have a face to put with your name.
  10:07pm JakeGould:

@IreneTrudel: Nice meeting you as well! Will be sure to schlep to Jersey City for Monty Hall gigs and maybe other things in the future. You and WFMU are good people… And pretty much 100% of the phone pledgers as well…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Love these textures.
Avatar 10:33pm geezerette:

Beautiful and moody. So many layers; thanks Irene.
Avatar 11:04pm Van in DC:

thanks Irene, gotta crash, will catch up later...
  11:05pm Listening Out There:

Thanks for playing - and remembering! - Codona. I saw them a, uh, few years ago. Colin Walcott, Don Cherry, and Nana Vasconcelos...Not forgotten!
  11:11pm JakeGould:

Nice ELP!
  11:22pm KP:

HI, Irene.
Avatar 11:23pm Fox (Rā-chul):

Hullo everyone!
  11:25pm JakeGould:

@EyepatchFox: Was relistening to the Dave the Spazz show with Glen Jones at work today. Really liked the shoutout Glen gave to “The chick with the eyepatch!”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Irene Trudel:

Hello Fox! Nice meeting you at the Marathon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Irene Trudel:

And 'Hi' to KP, L.O.T, Rev.Rabbit and other folks I didn't get a chance to greet you earlier. It was a busy (but fun) night of engineering.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:39pm deesat:

Great show, as always.
  11:47pm kbudjones:

Thanks for having us in to play. We had a great time Irene. You're the best and so are your listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Kevin! And thanks also to Chris, Kato and Brian. I had a lot of fun with Collapsible Shoulder tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Irene Trudel:

And thanks to all listening! Have a good night.
  11:58pm kbudjones:

Can't wait to hear the whole show. You played some of my favorite artists tonight. Dig the trio of tunes starting with Codona - especially Pat Martino in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am Irene Trudel:

Archive should be up within the hour. Thanks again!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:29am Sean in Bristol UK:

Thanks for a truly stellar show, Irene. Collapsible Shoulder, wow, thank you for one heck of a live set. Great tribute to Keith Emerson.
