Hi Therese and all
  12:10am rw:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Matt from Springfield:

GREAT instro backing track to "What Is Life?" available on the remastered ATMP album.

Hi Therese! Hi everyone!
  12:11am rw:

  12:11am MONEYBAG$:

We almost did it, everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am Therese:

Hello all! Thanks SOOOO MUCH for your support.
Avatar 12:12am JakeGould:

@MONEYBAG$: TBH, the 96% is pretty good. And straggler pledges come in during the post-marathon days. So consider it all good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am pacific standard simon:

We always almost did it, then we do it.
Avatar 12:13am JakeGould:

@Therese: No, thank you for doing this. Thank you all.
Avatar 12:13am coelacanth:

Matt, i have "issues" with the (over)production on about 1/3 the ATMP album; yet even so it's one of my favorite albums of all time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Ken From Hyde Park:

Yep, the last couple of years, at least, it's taken a couple of extra days to achieve the goal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Caryn:

Hopefully, we will see the caveman become a DJ within the next week or two.
Avatar 12:14am coelacanth:

Jake, it says "97%" over here!
  12:15am MONEYBAG$:

I think the goal was hit during the sinfonia 2 or 3 years ago, when Ken was dressed as Cher
Avatar 12:16am JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Oh, I am sorry. I meant to type 7 but 6 ate 9 or something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Matt from Springfield:

It's an excellent album coela! Phil Spector has over-produced parts of his output in every era, but the ATMP songs are so great to begin with! And the heavy-production does work out for some of them.
Avatar 12:16am JakeGould:

@MONEYBAG$: Sex sells.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am Matt from Springfield:

@Jake 12:16: Ha ha, good save at the end there! :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am steve:

this is about where marathon ended up at midnight last year, no?
Avatar 12:19am coelacanth:

just what i think Matt! most of it's dense, but that works well for much of it. i just would like to hear the individual instruments a bit clearer sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am fleep:

Therese cohosts with Gaylord, then sings at H&F, then sings backup, then dances, and now hosts a show. IRON WOMAN.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am Caryn:

Interesting. This is essentially just a Bombay cover of "One Way Ticket".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am pacific standard simon:

I dream about hitting the lottery and pledging the marathon the full budget, on the condition that the station carry on with the marathon as usual and not reveal that the station is fully funded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Caryn:

@pss: me too! Some day it will happen!
Avatar 12:21am coelacanth:

Hahaha! simon i've thought the same thing!
Avatar 12:21am BadGuyZero:

@pacific standard simon: I'd wager that you're not the only one who has made mental lottery plans like that. Because I have too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Matt from Springfield:

@steve: Typically we end up a few thousand short at the Marathon's end, but early in the next week we cross the line. A few years ago we did make it during the Grand Finale, and that was the first time in a long time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am fleep:

@pss Same basic dream, but I'd get a new transmitter and patch up the building so it doesn't leak.
  12:21am MONEYBAG$:

@simon - I have thought the same thing
  12:22am tomasz.:

welcome to Comedown Week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am pacific standard simon:

Someday, one of us will do it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am Matt from Springfield:

@fleep: Ken once had a webpage about major donations, should one arrive. It prioritized about $250k on the building physical condition, other expenses and possible grand plans for "surplus" cash. I'd like to do the same thing, and make sure the Marathon still goes on as usual to fund day-to-day operations here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 12:26am coelacanth:

i fondly recall again the year wfmu fell short and Vin Skelsa, who was at kroq at the time, i think, got his listeners to donate to fmu. the goal was reached the next morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am pacific standard simon:

That's the great thing about not depending on corporate sponsorship -- we can hang on until one of us hits the lottery, or dies with a will benefiting the station.
Avatar 12:27am Raika:

can anyone remember who sang this at a past Hoof n Mouth? I'm sure someone did it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am pacific standard simon:

Quick Google search says no.
Avatar 12:30am Raika:

ignore that, it was Yo La Tengo three marathons ago
  12:31am Listener Robert:

As I mentioned in the other thread, it occurred to me a couple days ago that had I been in charge 30 yrs. ago, I'd've been a total chicken about $, taking care of what seemed to be obvious necessities, and WFMU would never have grown into the enterprise it is, and probably would've disappeared by now. Auricle's always been on the edge with what they seemingly couldn't afford, and you see the results: a glorious outlet of 2 regular stations, 1 xltr, 1 on-channel booster, not just 1 but several streams, archiving, the FMA, outreach to other startups & patch-ups, a performance space...and some physical plant that's been advertised as in need of repair for some time. It's risky, but the risks have paid off in the past.
  12:32am Listener Robert:

And now how'm I going to get to sleep?
  12:32am MONEYBAG$:

YLT added the lyrics: "the drummer of Rush writes all the words, that's why the songs sound like drums, that's why the songs sound so dumb"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am steve:

"that's why the songs sound like drums"... lol
Avatar 12:33am BadGuyZero:

@MONEYBAG$: One of my favorite YLT improvised moments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am pacific standard simon:

Yeah, good luck with searching the YLT. I managed to record 2/3rds of the show this year before it crapped out on me.
Avatar 12:35am Raika:

it's okay, I recorded it and am listening to them play it now, it just got to the lines moneybags so awesomely remembered
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am Connor:

congrats on surviving another marathon, long live WFMU
  12:35am MONEYBAG$:

I don't have a recording but there was no way I could forget that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am pacific standard simon:

I forget everything, that's how I have the room to learn anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am pacific standard simon:

Matt Warwick has an awesome Can track on his DJ premium this year. Just sayin', if you haven't chosen yet.
Avatar 12:40am coelacanth:

ha! that's why funny jokes are always funny to me!
Avatar 12:41am coelacanth:

Matt's is on my list. i haven't finalized anything.
  12:42am MONEYBAG$:

the 2001 sinfonia has Terre T doing a medley of Slip It In by Black Flag and Mother Sky
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am Matt from Springfield:

Thank YOU Therese! During this Marathon, and the whole year long!
  12:45am P-90:

See, if someone already HAD won the lottery, and funded an entire marathon's worth on the condition it be kept secret, we wouldn't know about it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Matt from Springfield:

I hope to be "pleasantly shocked" by that news when we reach 100% (every year I wish so!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am pacific standard simon:

I haven't finalized anything either. Matt Fiveash, Michael Shelley, and Rex are always on my short list. That leaves 9 more choices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Andrew Waterloo:

I was too shy to adopt a DJ last year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am pacific standard simon:

Andrew you silly goose -- just do it!
  12:49am JakeGould:

I like me the way certain workplaces have common names. Like WFMU has a few Matts. One place I worked at had 3 Courtneys. Another had a handful of Laurens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am fleep:

@P-90 until it got spent on something worth 1.2M, that would kind of tip it
Avatar 12:50am BadGuyZero:

Every year I expect Therese to put Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" on at 2am and go home.

Not really. But I wouldn't blame her if she did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Andrew Waterloo:

I worked in a place that 4 daves and they were all in the same square of 4 cubicles.
  12:51am JakeGould:

@AndrewWaterloo: Finally did "Swag 4 Life." Next year I hope to adopt a DJ or an inanimate piece of equipment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am pacific standard simon:

My current workplace recently had two Julias, two Emilys, and two Meaghans.
  12:52am MONEYBAG$:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am Matt from Springfield:

I'm digging into Archives where the DJ premiums were played, take some "samples" to decide if I want to order that CD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am Andrew Waterloo:

I meant to do less S4L this year, but I did so well on prizes I over pledged a bit, and then a bit more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am Caryn:

Patton Oswalt's new favourite band? You know, I first listened to WFMU after Patton encouraged people to pledge during a Marathon like 15 years ago.
Avatar 12:53am Raika:

everywhere I've worked has had a plethora Ians and a gaggle of Johns, not a single Matt though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am fleep:

FMU also has a herd of Jeff (the plural of Jeff is Jeff).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Caryn:

@Matt: that's what I do. I think I may have managed to narrow down my choices almost to the finals, but there's 5-6 shows where I need to double-check things. There's plenty of almost-rans, which I'll then hope are available as warehouse items next year.
  12:55am JakeGould:

FWIW, WFMU has some solid Matts. I've known more than a few crappy Matts in my life so this gives me more faith in Matts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am Andrew Waterloo:

I'm usually the only Andrew at work. There is an Andrew in my building, my ex married an Andrew on my birthday, the guy who bullied me in highschool was named Andrew, and now there's another Andrew in Waterloo lurking in WFMU land. There have been others, but the story doesn't need to be too long.
  12:56am rw:

Gaggle of Johns... I like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am Andrew Waterloo:

I haven't done anything with choosing premiums this year. It will be an adventure though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am Matt from Springfield:

So many almost-rans! I think it takes 3 years to be released from the Prize Warehouse, I saw 2013 premiums this year.

@Raika: Any younger Millennials at your workplace? There should be a plethora of Matts in that age bracket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am pacific standard simon:

I did far less well on the prizes this year than I did last year, and I found that I didn't care. The Kool-Aid is muy delicioso.
Avatar 12:57am BadGuyZero:

WFMU has a couple of Joes. And a Jo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, I'm still waiting for Liz Burg's Robot Dance music thing to show up in the warehouse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am Matt from Springfield:

And yes, unlike herd of Jeff, multiple Matts are Matts. It's plural in English (though "Mats" is singular in Swedish, isn't it Caryn??)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: All of them now pushed to Monday! Joe McG, Joe B, Jo Firestone.
And Joe Duffy, though he doesn't have a show (BUT! ...he did appear on mic on amEdeo's show, which was in the early hours of MONDAY!!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am pacific standard simon:

WFMU has a vast host of vegetarian DJs. That's the main thing. It's amazing.
Avatar 1:00am Raika:

Only one millennial, Matt, a girl though, everyone else aside from me and her is 40+. Just doesn't seem to be a common name around here.
Avatar 1:01am BadGuyZero:

I pick up the premiums for my favorite hosts' shows during the marathon. If I later discover a good premium I missed I'll get it as part of my silent fundraiser swag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am Andrew Waterloo:

Workplaces need more young people. It seems we spend a lot of time bitching about millennials while forgetting they're juniors
  1:02am P-90:

@BGZ: smart strategy
  1:02am JakeGould:

Vegetarian DJs? Wait. I gave my money to tofu and tempeh lovers? I'm contacting my lawyer! Whoever that is.
Avatar 1:03am coelacanth:

i usually get one prize, sometimes 2. i don't try very hard. this year, without trying any harder i actually lost count!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am pacific standard simon:

There's only one other commenter named Simon, and we almost never cross paths.
  1:04am JakeGould:

I'm happy to be at a place where most of my coworkers are younger but cool. So we can talk about simulating things and I don't long like an old crank.
  1:04am JakeGould:

Where's Waldo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am Alejandro in TO:

Congrats everyone!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am Ken From Hyde Park:

I believe I won a prize on Mayuko's show the second week. First time I've won a WFMU marathon prize (as in winning a drawing, not the automatic things).
Avatar 1:07am coelacanth:

strangely, i've never worked with another Coelacanth.
Avatar 1:07am Raika:

That'd be funny if you did, I won a prize on her second show too and my name's also Ken.
Avatar 1:08am pillow_out:

I ended up winning 4 things and I wasn't even trying. The first one I won I got by updating my swag for life pledge. I turned on wfmu and my name was being announced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am Andrew Waterloo:

@coelacanth: Yah, it's usually 2 or 3 for me. Last year I had a prize I didn't know about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am Alejandro in TO:

my first year pledging swag4life. I also won more prizes than expected, nice bonus. whooooooooa we're gettin' freaky in here!
  1:09am MONEYBAG$:

last year I won a grand prize for a show that I wasn't even awake for
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am Andrew Waterloo:

My first year pledging I won the grand prize on Too Much Information which was a Dust To Digital book
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Raika - Ha, that's quite a coincidence. I thought I heard my name. I was a little distracted at the moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am Andrew Waterloo:

I'm wondering how many people won prizes on shows that were on a different stream because of the + thing.
Avatar 1:12am coelacanth:

Andrew...there's another show i miss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am Andrew Waterloo:

@coel. do you listen to his Theory of Everything podcast?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am Alejandro in TO:

My listening always tends to be closer to the midnight hour and beyond.. less listeners/pledgers I imagine..
Avatar 1:13am BadGuyZero:

@MONEYBAG$: Just about every year I get a prize and have no idea which show it's from. There's a few shows I pre-pledge to because I'm not able to listen to them live. Sometimes I forget to listen to the archive of the show. So I always assume the mystery prize is from one of those show.
Avatar 1:13am Raika:

I've won prizes on shows of Irene, Keili and Mayuko. I just noticed the pattern.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am Andrew Waterloo:

Some of the drummer shows I pledge on are fairly quiet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am cklequ:

You can make out like a bandit if you pledge to the shows on the Give The Drummer stream.
Avatar 1:15am popsicornia:

Therese, thanks for a great fund raiser, get some sleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am Andrew Waterloo:

the drummer stream has really really good prizes as well.
Avatar 1:15am coelacanth:

yeah, i may've won something by accidentally pledging to "sinner's crossroads".
-i don't mind that i donated to Kevin; but that kind of mishap + (no pun intended!) computer AND internet problems resulted in my not pledging to some shows that i definitely had planned to.
Avatar 1:15am BadGuyZero:

You've had a long day, Therese. You co-hosted Gaylord's show, then sang at the Hoof & Mouth [you were great, by the way!], and now you're here doing your regularly scheduled show. Thank YOU, Therese!
  1:15am MONEYBAG$:

the only show I DIDN'T win a prize from this year was on Give the Drummer
1:16am Bob in DC and/or Virginia:

Thank you for everything you do, Therese! And thanks to everyone who supported the station. I hope everyone gets some much-needed rest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am steve:

every year i get two or more prizes i don't remember - last year i got this big "Three Colors Trilogy: Blue, White, Red" 3 dvd box set. i still haven't watched it,
Avatar 1:17am pillow_out:

@steve that's a great prize you should watch them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am Alejandro in TO:

I missed the marathon end due to a busy Sunday, sounds like it was great. Thx for all you do Therese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am Matt from Springfield:

I admit, I was underwhelmed when you first announced Harpers Bizarre coming up--but "Knock On Wood"! What a great country-psych cover of it! Thanks for expanding my horizons!
  1:18am Hugh:

Fun night! Thanks everyone! There were some bits that went over my head. And when I say my head, I mean millions of
  1:18am MONEYBAG$:

the best prize I ever won was a Jandek DVD autographed by Irwin
  1:18am rw:

Thank YOU Therese! We love you too!

I'm exhausted after two weeks of FMU marathon and all I did was enter my credit card number a few times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am steve:

Oh... great (to me at least) mystery prize story. One day I was volunteering at the station over the Summer last year and my job for like the first hour of the day was to figure out how to wrap and pack this MASSIVE 10LP Merzbow box set prize!

The best part is Scott or Joe called the guy who won it to make sure he wanted it, and he said he'd never heard of Merzbow but did some experimental music himself and so yeah he wanted it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am pacific standard simon:

I had a cold during the first week of the marathon. Most of my pledging was during the second week, and I couldn't often listen. On the final Sunday, I drew a line -- no calls from work.
Avatar 1:19am BadGuyZero:

@steve: Those are great movies. I highly recommend watching them in Blue-White-Red order. When I lived in Seattle the Varsity Theater showed the trilogy one Saturday. I sat through it twice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 1:19am Raika:

Yes! El Goodo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am steve:

oh nice, maybe ill watch one tomorrow night! thanks for the advice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am Alejandro in TO:

@steve - haha amazing! "so yeah he wanted it". - si si EL Goodo, yes yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am Andrew Waterloo:

One of the stories I heard at a festival last year was "his wife took his car in because it sounded like something was wrong, it was just a Merzbow CD in the player"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am pacific standard simon:

That Harpers Bizarre version of "Knock On Wood" was ass-kicking. Thanks, Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am Andrew Waterloo:

I got a 4 pack of Norton singles once.
Avatar 1:23am coelacanth:

it was goofy and entertaining 'Handro! if it gets posted i want to revisit a bit of it; also i don't know how much of it i missed because of internet trouble here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am pacific standard simon:

The best prize I ever won during the marathon I never got, because it was sent to the wrong address. :(
Avatar 1:24am Raika:

That sucks. What was the prize?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am Alejandro in TO:

oh no! internet troubles. pss: hopefully whoever it got mailed to is appreciating it
Avatar 1:25am coelacanth:

Andrew @1:12 i have but not in a long time. i don't pay much attention to podcasts; but i guess in that case i should, since he's not on the schedule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am Andrew Waterloo:

@coelacanth. Well, it's not hard to keep up, Ben isn't really a prolific podcaster. His stuff is still excellent though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am pacific standard simon:

A big multi-CD weird music thing from World of Echo; I got Warehouse prizes as a substitute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Matt from Springfield:

Clarence Carter lays it on!
This may be his best song!
Avatar 1:33am coelacanth:

i did download a few podcasts recently when i was going to work where there was no internet or radio; then i ended up not working there again so i still haven't heard them.
...there's live and there's archives; then there's my own collection and my own stuff; and there's, ehem, those other! internet sources...i need more years to play with!
  1:34am MONEYBAG$:

Been so caught up in the marathon today that I was unaware of a pending snowstorm...ugh
Avatar 1:34am coelacanth:

Clarence Carter! "road of Love" is also spectacular!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am Andrew Waterloo:

there's WFMU, podcasts, and all the stuff I buy because of FMU and podcasts, the FMA, and all the stuff I already have. My mp3 collection is spectacular on shuffle though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am pacific standard simon:

I wish there was a snowstorm here. Bainbridge Island is north of Montreal, but we got no snow this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am MattBelow:

Hey Therese! Comin' down off Hoof N' Mouth and Robin Gibb is just the trick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am Matt from Springfield:

Have to take a listen to "Road of Love", then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am Andrew Waterloo:

It looks like we're getting snow here, but I figured we'd get one more storm after it all melted.

MattBelow, you kicked ass!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am Andrew Waterloo:

but that's my last word. G'night everyone.. see you tomorrow when the the pledge clock finally rolls over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am Therese:

Thanks, Matt. And let me say again- your Badfinger was AWESOME!
Avatar 1:40am coelacanth:

...speaking of too much information!
...i find myself "reviewing" music. there's only a half dozen or so new things i've got that i've listened to repeatedly.
i don't like that aspect of so much wealth. i don't know albums like i used to.
Avatar 1:41am coelacanth:

oh; busy typing.
'night Andrew.
  1:41am Julie:

therese thanks for the good driving home in the wet snow music! especially appreciated the Syd & France
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am pacific standard simon:

Goodnight in animation brotherhood, Andrew Waterloo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am Matt from Springfield:

G'night Andrew! Sweet dreams of the next Marathon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am Alejandro in TO:

nite andrew.
  1:42am Julie:

Matt Below is such a rock star I love it
Avatar 1:42am coelacanth:

Matt (@1:38) you can trust me on that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am MattBelow:

Grazie all! What a night! Therese killed it herself on The Metro!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am Caryn:

@Matt: just noticed your old comment. Yep, Mats is a singular.

I think I won about the same amount of prizes this year as last, but with more pledges. Got 2 grand prizes and generally excellent stuff, so I'm really looking forward to the mailing sometime in August/September.
Avatar 1:43am coelacanth:

what?! did someone do a badfinger song tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am Matt from Springfield:

Thought so, Caryn.

@coela: Good to know, I will! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am pacific standard simon:

"Come And Get It" was performed.
Avatar 1:46am coelacanth:

aw man... doesn't this usually get posted for a week or 2?
i hope so.
  1:47am Jim the Poet:

Therese, you were amazing tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Matt from Springfield:

Beatle-like psych and gentle guitar! Swoooooooooooooon...
Avatar 1:49am coelacanth:

Lovely. i haven't heard this in too long.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am pacific standard simon:

The only things you can't get on the archives are Yo La Tengo shows, and shows where the DJ has an FCC-offensive meltdown.
Avatar 1:51am coelacanth:

the video?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52am pacific standard simon:

You will get the video, too.
Avatar 1:53am coelacanth:

and here's one of the few albums i've been adequately absorbing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54am pacific standard simon:

So good. I fed it to my TV and danced around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54am Alejandro in TO:

Blackstar with so very eery melodies
Avatar 1:57am coelacanth:

yes. -and every few days i get " i can't give everything away" lodged in my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am Matt from Springfield:

And very telling lyrics in retrospect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58am Caryn:

WFMU's ustream account, vimeo account or YT channel will have the Marathon. Possibly all of them will have it at some point.
Avatar 1:59am coelacanth:

Thanks simon and Caryn. how do find that though? via the blog?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am pacific standard simon:

Truth is, I haven't understood anything out of Bowie's mouth since Heroes. Crucify me for that if you like.
Avatar 2:01am coelacanth:

i forget now, as i was glued to wfmu for a week, who played this back-to-back with "black star" by Elvis Presley.
that was interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am Caryn:

@coelacanth: I think Hearty's 2nd show during the Marathon had a link to one of his performances on the vimeo account, so you can find the account that way easily, the ustream account can be accessed through the playlist of any show that had a video stream this Marathon, like SUW, 7SD or Pat Byrne. And with YT just go there and type in the search WFMU (and maybe Marathon).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am pacific standard simon:

@coelacanth - it will be on the front page of the website. Trust me, it helps the station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am Caryn:

But yeah, as pss said, the main page will have a link to it sometime during the next week.
Avatar 2:05am coelacanth:

Thanks Caryn.
simon, you mean the home page? if so, that's what i thought...but for only a little while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am steve:

wat? is the special needs kitty of the same name involved in this band?
Avatar 2:06am coelacanth:

oh, okay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am Caryn:

Of course, you could just periodically check out www.ustream.tv... for it and other Marathon vids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am fleep:

Avatar 2:07am BadGuyZero:

I hope you have the day off so you can catch up on some very much needed rest.
Avatar 2:08am coelacanth:

don't get sick Therese. get some rest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09am pacific standard simon:

May I please go back to the marathon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am Matt from Springfield:

3 hours of Smash Mouth covers, cut short to 3 seconds!
Avatar 2:13am slugluv1313:

oh wow! MUST HAVE the LIL BUB music! THANK YOU Therese -- i had no idea this existed! and thanks, fleep, for that link!
Avatar 2:16am BadGuyZero:

Lil Bub is also on this cover of "Super Bowl Shuffle" that also features Tom Scharpling, Dave Hill, Jim James [from My Morning Jacket], and several other comedians.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am Matt from Springfield:

Avatar 2:21am coelacanth:

...from the soundtrack to one of the darkest moments in my life.
Avatar 2:23am slugluv1313:

yes, thanks BGZ! wow Lil Bub sure gets around!
Avatar 2:24am coelacanth:

i need to find out more about this space cat.
Avatar 2:25am slugluv1313:

Disintegrating . . .
Avatar 2:25am BadGuyZero:

Ooh...you just gave me an idea. A remake of "The Cat From Outer Space" starring Lil Bub!
Avatar 2:27am slugluv1313:

. . . and Space Cat on MUSHROOMS! 2.bp.blogspot.com...
Avatar 2:28am coelacanth:

Avatar 2:29am slugluv1313:

. . . which is actually SPACE CAT Meets MARS! 3.bp.blogspot.com...
Avatar 2:29am BadGuyZero:

@slugluv1313: That is tremendous!
Avatar 2:31am slugluv1313:

thanks! my cats are such a baaaad influence on me, hah!
Avatar 2:31am coelacanth:

Fantastic! i wish i had those books. (but at least i see they exist!)
Avatar 2:34am coelacanth:

slugluv is that YOUR collection?
Avatar 2:34am slugluv1313:

i wish i had those books too! when i 1st saw the "Space Cat on Mushrooms" illustration, i had NO idea there was a whole series of books . . . must find them somehow!
  2:36am tomasz.:

wow, haven't heard this in a minute
Avatar 2:36am coelacanth:

that's the kind of thing you find with an obscene price tag in an antique shop; or dirt cheap at a garage sale.
Avatar 2:37am BadGuyZero:

I just looked for the "Space Cat" books online. The few books in the series I found copies of were in the $75+ range.
Avatar 2:38am Danne D:

I am exhausted but I had to pop in to give props to Therese for once again the perfect post-marathon show to kick off the return to normalcy. So so great.

And thanks to all the pledgers and all the amazing people at WFMU - just such a magical place.

(PS Hi BGZ, Tomazsy, slugluv, coelacanth and everyone) :)

Now sleepytime zzzz
  2:38am P-90:

I grew up on Ruthven Todd's original Space Cat books. Written in the '50s, they were way ahead of their time.
Avatar 2:39am coelacanth:

hi bye DD! Thanks to you too!
Avatar 2:39am BadGuyZero:

Seeya later, Danne!
Avatar 2:40am slugluv1313:

ya, i was just looking online too! WAY expensive, but agreed, probably for pennies @ garage sales!
@ P-90 -- oh wow you are so lucky! (and i am so *jealous*!)
good night, Danne D.
Avatar 2:41am coelacanth:

Therese you're an Angel!
  2:41am P-90:

Oh boy!
  2:41am tomasz.:

hey Danne! bye again Danne! thanks for the Taylor ham
Avatar 2:42am slugluv1313:

Television's "Marquee Moon" = so perfect for this cold snowy night
and never ever EVER feels "old," IMHO
THANK YOU, Therese!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44am Caryn:

Now if only those books were still in P-90's posession (or in a box in the basement of the childhood home), some kind of financial arrangement could be made btw you two...
Avatar 2:48am slugluv1313:

oh, i could never take SPACE CAT away from ANYONE!
i just checked my local library, & they do not have the SPACE CAT books, but another library has all four of them! yay!
Avatar 2:53am coelacanth:

did you date someone named Maggie, with red hair? she steals vintage t-shirts!
Avatar 2:53am BadGuyZero:

The only time I've ever seen The Cure was on the "Disintegration" tour. They played every song from the album during that show.
Avatar 2:55am BadGuyZero:

I wish I could have come up to work the marathon and/or sacrifice another internal organ.
Avatar 2:55am coelacanth:

i saw them after "faith". it was Extraordinary, and to this day that's my favorite Cure album.
Avatar 2:57am coelacanth:

Thank you Therese! take care of yourself -and enjoy the vacation!
good night everyone.
Avatar 2:58am BadGuyZero:

Thank you so much, Therese! I hope you rest well this morning after your very L-O-N-G day. Enjoy your two weeks away. I know Christina and Kurt will be splendid fill-in hosts.
Avatar 3:00am slugluv1313:

good night Therese! thank you again, and ENJOY!
