Ever hear Mr. Pigeon on one of his recordings having his real name discussed? It was a hilarious example of deflection. His name is no great mystery, it's just not very memorable (at least to me, but that goes for most people's names), but it's so cute to hear him squirm about it on a recording HE EDITED.

  3:51pm
Listener Robert:

JP, assuming we're discussing Mr. Pigeon, I think his wife is actually more widely known. She's an artist.

The funny thing is that I seem to have a false memory of his being on WFMU much longer than he actually has. Maybe he just makes such an impression. I liked his produced bits where he does more than 1 voice, but his MITS interviews are so great too. I think my mistake resulted from conflating him with some Joe Frank bit from 20+ yrs. ago.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
chris:

Sean is down is Ross these days, as far as I know, ScottC. There are still yearly keggers around here, for damn sure. :-)
  3:55pm
Listener Robert:

The bit I apparently misattributed to Mr. Pigeon included some waiter in a Chinese restaurant taking out his anger on a patron for no apparent reason: "..and one wonton soup IN YOUL RAP!" Maybe it was from Firesign Theater rather than Joe Frank. I remember hearing it while driving here in the Bronx one December.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:56pm

The Firesign bit about chinchillas sounds a lot like Clay's humor!

Thanks, Robert! Please excuse my naivete. I'm totally new to the community. In fact, I only learned about WFMU a few weeks ago. Now I don't know what I'd ever do without it. It's a strange feeling. I also feel like I'm on a 1st name basis with screen actor Jerry Can't-Even-Remember-His-Last-Name-Now because he was a friend at NYU of my friend Damon Lindelof -- one of his poker playing buddies. I played poker with Damon (I was a gaming friend of his father) & some of his other friends, so got to know them by 1st name, and even though I never met Jerry I still think of him by that name alone most of the time! However, I think the evidence is pretty overwhelming that Oswald meant no harm to John Kennedy, but did mean to kill John Connally. The evidence is a little shakier (but still enough to convince me) that the head shot was delivered accidentally by one of Kennedy's bodyguards preparing to return fire, so that ALL the physical damage to Kennedy was accidental.

There's a theory that apart from a small handful of exceptions (both good and bad), US presidents can be effective presidents or good people, but not both. Carter: lovely person, not a fantastic president. Nixon: total crook, but had a number of successes as a president. Clinton: very effective president, but a total horndog. Then you have a couple who were not very good people, and sucked as presidents, and an even smaller number of people who were decent people and decent presidents (like Lincoln).

the Dutch invented modern still-life painting, hardcore techno, orange carrots, doughnuts, blood banks, and Wi-Fi. good job, you guys. also the first capitalist nation-state, but you can't have it all.

@Bas: also, some very good cheeses. And while not a Dutch invention, Dutch vegetables are superb. And pannenkoeken.

Listener Robert:

I recall, though that the FIRST time I heard Irwin play Jandek, I was like, OK, I guess I need to get used to it. 2nd time, I was like, oh this should be a treat now that I'll "get it"...nope, not getting better. 3rd time I think was when I turned it off. Eventually Irwin ANNOUNCED that Jandek was no longer hip. And now, yrs. later, when I sent him the link to the video, I found out Irwin was no longer interested in even keeping tabs on Jandek.

Hi Caryn! Oh, yes pannenkoeken are the best! Ever had stroopwafels? American friend of mine imports them by the box to the States.

Mmm.. @Webhamster Henry: How would one think of a 'Dutch listener'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
Caryn:

@Bas: Plenty of stroopwafels in my past (and possibly in my future), but I prefer poffertjes. Or a nice mushroom-and-bacon pannenkoek with powdered sugar and syrup. Mmm...
