Avatar 9:28pm Van in DC:

Here was what I saw, and thought WOW what a talented guy!! :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Caryn:

I blame that Easter Bunny on top, which clearly hypnotised you to ignore the "Missouri, 1959" bit. That bunny is up to no good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Meghan:

Love the Hirshhorn museum
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Private Presley:

Is this a Baldamenti cover? I love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Summer and Michael:

Just called in our pledge! Great show as ever! We adore you, Ms. T!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm Caryn:

My computer decided to install updates and shut down for half an hour for the end of Mac and the start of this show, so now I'm utterly confused by the "other Dusty" and "quite a grand prize" comments... With time, I'm hoping to catch up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Meghan:

The grand prize is a set of 8 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds albums.... for pledges of $75 or more puts you in the running for that set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Jake, Van, P-90 and My co-host Meghan, who is filling in for Julie, who had an emergency (Hi Julie!). Yes, Anna was here last November and is on my new compilation, yours for a pledge of $75 or more. P-90, I don't know if Anna had time to check out St. John's instrument. Hi Also to Melinda, Dave, Caryn, Summer and Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Caryn:

Ooh, that is indeed quite a grand prize!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Meghan:

So far, we have only 4 people in the running for the Bjork- Vulnicura CD and the Anna Von Hausswolff- Ceremony CD. Pledge now! You could be in the running!
Avatar 9:43pm Van in DC:

Yes I remember Anna completely blew me away with that voice. Just, wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Julie:

this song is incredible
Avatar 9:46pm Van in DC:

Pretty sure my neighbors loved that lol
Avatar 9:51pm Van in DC:

Awesome, thank you so much! Anna is quite something!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Me fail English? That's unpossible!
Avatar 9:55pm Van in DC:

I swear that this show, and a few others, are helping my broken clavicle and cracked ribs heal. Magical musical elixir.
  9:55pm P-90:

There's no vinyl like space vinyl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Julie:

the hoodies are the WFMU uniform! I wore mine today.
Avatar 9:57pm Van in DC:

I wore my FMU hoodie today too lol
  9:57pm JakeGould:

@VaninDC: I hope you heal pal. Stay strong! Get ready for spring.
Avatar 9:58pm Van in DC:

Thank you JakeGould.

Oh my, that Warren album is goooooood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Meghan:

I'm wearing mine now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Irene! Meghan! Everyone!

@Van: Oooof! Sounds not-so-hot, hope you feel better soon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Meghan:

Matt! hello!!
Avatar 10:01pm Van in DC:

Hey Matt, thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Matt from Springfield:

MEGH-AN! Always a thrill to see you back! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Meghan:

*smiles* It's been too long! I feel I haven't seen your happy self on here in so long!
Avatar 10:02pm Van in DC:

@Matt, remember Kawehi? That was her in the recent "Intel Inside" commercial, right after the ballet dancer. She didn't know...she tweeted out: HOLY SHIT! I'M IN A SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL!! .....lol
  10:03pm JakeGould:

@MattfromSpringfield: Hey! You are good people. Have you ever volunteered for the marathon? I know you’re not nearby, but I did this past weekend and I will do so again the weekend after this one.
Avatar 10:04pm Folsom:

Irene and Meghan are a great combo! It's a good day when they're on the radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Matt from Springfield:

Similarly with emergencies, I hope Julie's wasn't too severe! My thoughts go out to you.

@Meghan: You are missed my friend!
@Van: WHOA! Must have been a pleasant surprise to her!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: Next time I go to NYC I def want to stop by the Magic Factory. Hopefully I'll come some March and volunteer then! If not Marathon time, at least take the PATH and stop by some enchanted Wednesday/Thursday and help stuff envelopes! :)
  10:07pm JakeGould:

@MattfromSpringfield: Everyone needs to experience the weird PATH train loop on the weekends that stops in Hoboken after going backwards at least once in your life. Not kidding. It’s the best!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Matt from Springfield:

And Irene...I've seen your avatar for a while but never asked about it. Always assumed it was old stock imagery of a girl wearing radio headphones (pre-transistor). Now with today's photo, I can tell that was your own Mom!! So awesome! So vintage! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Nick Cave, a Meghan choice? :)
  10:09pm P-90:

Heil Herr Matt von Schprungfeldt!
Be sure and give me a heads-up whenever you do plan to visit the area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Meghan:

8 CD set of Nick Cave CD's as the grand prize.... $75 puts you in the running for the grand prize! And not only do you get to be in the running for grand prize, but you automatically get Irene's premium- The Path is Paved with Players
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, Matt, my avatar is indeed a picture of my mom, aged about 1 1/2. It's one of my favorite images ever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey P-90! I'll make sure to inform you!
(And get to the bottom of this...who are you?! You don't even have an avatar!!!...)
  10:13pm JakeGould:

@P-90: Do you volunteer? Don’t you live in the West Village? PATH train ride to NJ is a few blocks away, right?
  10:13pm JakeGould:

@Irene: Belated response, but your mom in your grandpa’s lap with the headsets? DAMN! PERFECT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful, Irene!
And it foreshadows your own heavy contributions to radio :)
Avatar 10:15pm Van in DC:

okay, THIS is the Warren album I was referring to earlier as being really goooooood.
Avatar 10:17pm Van in DC:

Oh, hey, Irene, I have an extra "Ambassador copy" of the very latest Jane Siberry album. Shall I send it along to FMU?
Avatar 10:18pm Van in DC:

<--- archive beast :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Webhamster Henry:

This Warren track is lovely. Irene has such excellent taste! Please support her show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Matt from Springfield:

The Archives alone are worth a pledge!
(And the phone app! Once I got my smartphone I've listened on the go a number of times!)
  10:21pm P-90:

@Jake: I've visited on occasion (I'll be there when Hearty comes) but haven't yet been able to volunteer; by the time I figured out how to make it work with my schedule last year, Scott told me he was full. This year I hoped to make it work but couldn't. Next year should be easier. I'd actually like to bring a friend and cook a meal or two for the horde...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm melinda:

The WFMU app is the only one I use. But WFMU is so good that I even listened sans app for a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Julie:

we ALWAYS need people cooking, p-90!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Webhamster Henry:

Yes, WFMU was early on, streaming on satellite, then internet streaming, was the first to get streaming on an iPhone (using a sneaky trick), and I wrote the first iPhone apps for WFMU and JM/AM. Later ones were not written by me, but are still worthy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Matt from Springfield:

How tragic, volunteers are TOO FULL! But you've got the right idea with bringing food--that, I understand, is ALWAYS welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Google has told me it is International Women's Day!

(And OMG Laurie Anderson!!!)
Avatar 10:27pm Van in DC:

Becca is another good one.

I've been able to donate time to WETA, classical music here in DC area, as they are just up the street from me, really. They are also completely listener supported, no commercials.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Julie:

she sounds a little like the girl from Professor and Mary Ann remember them?
  10:34pm Carmichael:

Hi cool DJs and listeners. Payday is mere hours away ...
  10:34pm KP:

Good evening, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm Meghan:

Avatar 10:37pm Van in DC:

  10:38pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Tuned in just in time for Becca, wonderful
Avatar 10:38pm Mary Wing:

Hi Irene, Meghan, and folks!

That time Nick Cave met Nick Cave....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Welcome Sean! Thanks for getting/staying up with us!

Hi jon! KP! Carm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Meghan:

Hello all you lovelies!
  10:39pm P-90:

@Matt: funny thing, last year there seemed to be a lot if folks who wanted to volunteer, Scott sounded buried with requests to volunteer by about a week and a half before showtime. This year I noticed the air staff asking for help right up until last Friday or so. You should plan yourself a trip next March, bring an apron, I'll show you how to do lasagne or burritos for a radio station full of hungry freeformers.
Or maybe we could do a nice Lobster Thermidor aux crevettes with a Mornay sauce, garnished with truffle pâté, brandy and a fried egg on top, and Spam.
Avatar 10:39pm Van in DC:

oh wow, thanks Mary!
  10:39pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hey Van, 3.38 am here, yes but worth it to make my pledge
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Matt from Springfield:

@P-90: "Lasagne" with an -e? I just *might* w/ that kind of expertise! :) As long as we can make Spam Spam lobster thermidor with Spam Egg Spam Spam Spam and Spam..
  10:41pm Listener Robert:

Doesn't WFMU employ volunteers year-round for premium fulfillment? Or is that farmed out now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm Webhamster Henry:

I saw Becca Stevens last year at a great show across the street from me. She has a great act!
  10:42pm KP:

Hey, that said Irene AND Meghan. Darn iPhones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Irene Trudel:

Hi KP, Mary Wing, Sean, Carmichael, jon, Robert and Henry! Sean, hope you're getting SOME sleep! Listener Robert, we never farm out mailing swag at WFMU. It's all done in house. After the big mailings Tony B takes care of mailings off-season.
  10:47pm P-90:

So The Two Nicks have come face to face. And the fabric of space/time did not spontaneously rip asunder. One less thing to worry about.
Avatar 10:48pm Van in DC:

Nick: "Hey, Nick, your 'Soundsuit' really inspired me on my latest album."

Nick: "That's awesome Nick! Your music really inspired my 'Soundsuit'!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Nice, a modern version of Laurie's "United States" style spoken pieces...
  10:50pm P-90:

@Van: HA!
Avatar 10:52pm Van in DC:

Jane Siberry was doing a lot of this type of thing a few weeks ago in her little concert here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Matt from Springfield:

...from the air...from now on!..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Matt from Springfield:

Kahlil Gibran, "War and the Small Nations":
  10:53pm Listener Robert:

Thanks for the explanation, Ms. Trudel. But for those who feel left out, isn't there still at least occasional need for "unskilled" volunteer help in the "off season"?
Avatar 10:54pm Mary Wing:

How was Jane's show, Van? I missed her when she was in town, and was bummed out about it. Did she do just new stuff?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Caryn:

These middle-of-the-night shows (my time) really feel intimate, what with the volume being hardly audible and me craned over the laptop speakers, so as not to wake the neighbours.
Avatar 10:56pm Van in DC:

@Mary, yes mostly new stuff, and frankly I didn't know a lot of it. Definitely nothing from the really early years. It was not an inspired performance, sad to say. She seemed...off. She was a little off musically, wrong notes and such. But it was a very small venue, and I had the feeling she was catching up on being really, really tired or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Matt from Springfield:

ALL RIGHT! Thanks Irene! The Becca Stevens is a new treat for me! :D
Avatar 11:00pm Mary Wing:

Ah, that's was I was afraid of. I got a download of Jane's new album since I was in on the Kickstarter campaign, but truthfully I wasn't been blown away by her last few live performances; especially during her "Issa" period, heh.
Avatar 11:00pm MattBelow:

@listener robert: Plenty of various tasks from helping at the record fair, Monty Hall events...help is always needed!
  11:02pm P-90:

Congrats, Matt!
Avatar 11:02pm Van in DC:

@Mary, yeah, I bought "Ulysses' Purse" CD at the performance (before it was released) and got a free extra "Ambassador Copy" to give away. I guess I'll send up to FMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm Julie:

Those of you wondering, & correct me if I'm wrong, the bookkeeper is paid staff, which I'm told is always a good investment for any volunteer organiz'n that can afford one.
Avatar 11:05pm Van in DC:

Oooh, they are good. Jeffrey played them last show I think, too
Avatar 11:05pm Mary Wing:

Van, if you do that, I sure hope it makes it into the new bin! No guarantees there.
Avatar 11:06pm Van in DC:

@Mary, I can send to you at FMU?
Avatar 11:07pm Danne D:

Hi Irene and Meghan :)
Hi all you good people :)
Glad to see the thermometer a long way up there :)
Avatar 11:07pm Van in DC:

Danne! Hi there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi Danne!
Movin' Mercury, every show, every day! :)
Avatar 11:09pm Mary Wing:

Sure, Van, if you like. But I don't have any sway with getting music added to the new bin.
Avatar 11:09pm Danne D:

Hi Van :) Hi M_f_S :) Hi Mary :) Hi Julie :)
Avatar 11:10pm Van in DC:

oh, didn't know how that works. I'll post it in a day or so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Meghan:

Danne D! Hello my friend!
Avatar 11:10pm Mary Wing:

Did the pledge thermometer just get adjusted? I thought it was 90% just a minute ago.

Hiya Danne D!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Meghan:

We up-ed our goal!
Avatar 11:10pm Van in DC:

it was 90%. Whaaaaa happened.
Avatar 11:11pm Danne D:

Are you singing this year? (@all DJs present) :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Meghan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm Meghan:

Weyes Blood-The Innocents and Wall Matthews & Rusty Clark- Air Over Water are up for grabs! A pledge of $20 or more puts you in the running!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Irene Trudel:

Sean, what's going wrong?
Avatar 11:22pm Mary Wing:

What's the issue, Sean? I've heard that credit card numbers tend to kick you out of the system. If so, just select the Bill Me Later option.
Avatar 11:24pm MattBelow:

@Sean: We got your pledge Sean!
Avatar 11:26pm Danne D:

Celebrity pledge card grabber :)
  11:26pm P-90:

@Julie: So? Are you singing at the H&M?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Irene Trudel:

Yay Sean!
Avatar 11:26pm Van in DC:

Impressed with Weyes Blood every time I hear them
Avatar 11:29pm Van in DC:

They remind me of The Lone Bellow, but that's probably just me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Irene Trudel:

Weyes Blood is one person essentially-- Natalie Mering. I saw her perform a couple of summers ago. Lovely! www.mexicansummer.com...
  11:32pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Slightly confused here, still saying an error processing my pledge, do I need to phone someone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Very good for just one person!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Irene Trudel:

No Sean. We see it on our end. There are lots of glitches in the software this year.
Avatar 11:33pm Van in DC:

Sean, did you get the confirmation email from FMU?
Avatar 11:36pm MattBelow:

@Sean: Your pledge is credited to Irene's show. I would wait a few days to see if you get a confirmation e-mail and then contact Joe McGasko at Listener Services who can help you figuring out the status of your pledge.
Avatar 11:37pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Avatar 11:38pm Danne D:

Feel free to continue to test the system with more pledges to shows over the course of the week, Sean ;) Thanks!
Avatar 11:39pm Van in DC:

I found a kink in the system earlier today, pledging on archive to a show from this morning (Hi Sasha, great show!) and my pledge went to the live show on air at the time. Grr. Got it straightened out.
Avatar 11:40pm Danne D:

Yeah Van - (and everyone in general) when pledging to a show that isn't the live on air show ya gotta make sure you hit the (+) button after picking the show you want to pledge to.
Avatar 11:41pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Sorry in my blurry state I zoned out for awhile, did I win something?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Meghan:

hehe.... yes you did! Wall Matthews and Rusty Clark!
Avatar 11:42pm MattBelow:

Here is your official how to pledge Marathon 2016 graphic!
Avatar 11:42pm Van in DC:

Way to go Matt!

@Danne - yep, that is what Joe told me as well. Sasha's show was already showing but then it mysteriously changed after the fact.
Avatar 11:43pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Wow, thanks Megan, is this station the best on the planet, get those pledges in folks.
Avatar 11:43pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Nice job, Matt
Avatar 11:44pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Quick question to Van, how are the injuries, my friend?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm melinda:

This is lovely.
Avatar 11:45pm Danne D:

@Van - yeah - even if you go to an archive page and pledge (and see the name of the show filled in on the pull down) you should still hit the plus sign.
Avatar 11:46pm Van in DC:

Healing up thanks to the wonderful music Sean :) Hopefully no surgery will be needed. I have my ribs crossed on that lol

@Danne - yep, that was what I missed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Irene Trudel:

Good to hear, Van! Glad I can provide a soundtrack for a speedy recovery. ;)
Avatar 11:49pm Van in DC:

I had a minor computer glitch going on for a minute...what was that about Jeffrey? I LOVE his show, Shrunken Planet. Dedicated archive listener, I am.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Matt from Springfield:

Eyes are a little gritty now, back to beddy-byes for me, thanks for the great show Irene. Great to catch up with everybody via comments. Spring is in the air, baseball is back, marvellous!
