OK guys, I get it, have to pick up something by Chris Forsyth...
Go Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Caryn:

@cory: so, it would be Morrissey vs Eddie Izzard? That would certainly make for a more interesting election process than usual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am doctorjazz:

I'll say it again, reminds me of Television.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am doctorjazz:

In a good way...(Forsyth, that is)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Caryn:

@cory: I can just see Morrissey running for PM and explaining that unlike Cameron, he has never done anything unseemly with a dead pig, what with being vegan and all.

Hello Monday morning! And Joe! And Ken! And all! Loving all the marathon action + the HEAVY tunes.
  9:33am winterzwiebeln:

hi - so if you are an existing swag for life member, is it possible to get in the running for different show prize draws and get premiums without sending another payment on top of your existing pledge? or do you put a payment through mentioning you are already swag for life and get it refunded? (that’s just my guess)
Swag For Life Member 9:35am Glenn M:

just put the pledge in and click bill me later and it wont effect your swag for life as long as you dont put in cc info you went get charged
Avatar 9:35am Marcel M:

360? Did we cut five days off the year?!???!
Avatar 9:37am Marcel M:

the Jandek cds should all get shipped to a random listener at the end of the marathon. One has to pledge at least a mouse pledge to get opted out of possibly getting all of them.
  9:37am winterzwiebeln:

thanks glenn!
Avatar 9:39am Joe McG:

I have a feeling that some WFMU listeners would prefer the 71 Jandek CDs, which is why I love this place.
Avatar 9:41am Marcel M:

True Joe! We just like to poke fun at poor Jandek sometimes on Ken's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am People Like Us:

You leave the US state blank, Guido, and then scroll to Germany on the scroller below. Did you do that?
  9:45am Polyus:

Any Conway Twiitty on that Patrick Cowley CD?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Asheville Jon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Asheville Jon:

man, that station is such crap now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Jeff Golick:

...all us Jeffs look alike to you, eh, Ken? I think that pledge might've been mine (GTDR Jeff) and not fellow Jeff, Avant Ghetto Jeff. JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD~!

Btw, I got an error message when pledging...and tried several more times...I'll be curious to learn how much I ultimately pledged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am annie:

i want to put my name in for the isley brothers cd-set... but, not. your sales promotion has enticed me to want to.
Avatar 9:57am Marcel M:

ME NO DRINK MAN!!! Is it so?! haha!

Haha.. that was great.
Avatar 9:58am Marcel M:

At least I think thats what was said..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Asheville Jon:

yes, I remember the Z-95. even had one of their license plates. i also grew up in an area outside Allentown.
Avatar 9:58am Joe McG:

@annie; It's a doozie, possibly the biggest prize in terms of sheer volume that we're giving out this marathon!
  9:59am Susan C.:

Allentown! I had a radio show at one of the colleges there, early 80's. I hope you didn't hear me. It was amateur but I did play a selection better than you'd find on ZZO.
Avatar 10:00am Joe McG:

@Susan: I wonder if I heard you? What station?
Avatar 10:01am Brian in UK:

Hello Joe and Ken.
Avatar 10:02am OTB:

Hey Joe, I keep having problems with the online plege-o-matic. I fill everything out, ask it to send me a bill, and then I get the "error processing your pledge" message. Is this because I'm a bum and can't pay right now? Is it because I'm ugly? Both?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Asheville Jon:

Susan: I also did radio shows on WMUH, Muhlenberg College's radio station, as part of the LVCBA when the students were not in session
Avatar 10:02am Marcel M:

  10:02am Susan C.:

WMUH. I was part of the group that filled in during the winter and summer breaks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am doctorjazz:

that Somebody to Love just blasted me from the first notes!
Avatar 10:03am Marcel M:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am annie:

Avatar 10:03am Joe McG:

Avatar 10:04am Brian in UK:

@Marcel M Be strong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Asheville Jon:

Susan, do you remember Mr. Mark?
  10:04am jeannova:

I second that about having trouble with online pledging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Bas NL:

(Pledge form doesn't process properly!! Probably due to international addressing like Guido experienced earlier..)
Avatar 10:05am Mike VL:

Yes, same here....not allowing pledges online. At least the way I am trying...which is Firefox. :(
Avatar 10:05am Joe McG:

I'm sorry you guys are having trouble...maybe try another browser or if you're local, call us at 1-800-989-9368. We have nice people here to talk to!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Bas NL:

  10:06am Susan C.:

That's you, Ashville Jon? Remember Suzy Q Public?
  10:06am Listener Robert:

Somebody must've remarked already, but...did Nachum give $ away? The odometer went back from 10% last night to 9%.
Avatar 10:09am Joe McG:

Hang in there, folks, it looks like the IT folks are fixing it now, so it should be working again for you soon, I hope!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am -Ken:

International callers can dial 201-413-9368
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am -Ken:

Robert, I made a correction to the total
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Asheville Jon:

No, I'm not Mr. Mark. He died many years ago.
Not sure if I remember you Susan, sorry. Some names I do recall are: Neil Hever, Lunar Ladder (I think he still does a show?), Furphy. Used to go to the meetings in Bethlehem and then hit the Funhouse (after going to the record store).
Avatar 10:10am djsheilab:

How have I missed this Bombay Disco comp? It's fantastic!!!
Avatar 10:11am Joe McG:

Both volumes are amazing, Sheila! I think you're about due to start collecting from India, don't you think? :)

Avatar 10:19am OTB:

Yay! It worked!
  10:19am Susan C.:

@Asheville Jon. So sorry to hear about Mr. Mark. I know the others, that's my era. Meetings at Godrey Daniel's.
  10:23am Brendan:

I think Joe exorcised the website demons when he invoked the phrase "Ayah...Kini ku Bercinta"
Avatar 10:24am Joe McG:

@Brendan: Which means "Father, I'm in Love This Time," btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Asheville Jon:

Susan: yeah, Mr. Mark was amazing and a spectacular artist. I went to school with his brother and hung out with them at their house many times. He could have been a superstar.
Yeah, Godfrey Daniel's! Couldn't remember the name of that place.
Good days. Miss seeing the Original Sins at the Funhouse and around the valley. Nice to hear them on FMU from time to time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am annie:

Joe!! i was just thinking that yesterday... i feel most at home when i'm listening to woof-moo, my family embedded among the commenters
  10:26am Brendan:

Avatar 10:29am Brian in UK:

Congrats annie.
Avatar 10:30am Cecile:

how's your lyme disease these days, Ken?
  10:30am Susan C.:

@Asheville Jon. I have a nice photo of Mr. Mark from back in the day.
The Funhouse must be where I saw the Bush Tetras. I don't remember the name of the place.
As Joe just said, this is the place for misfits. We all cross over somewhere, it seems. It's a nice thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am annie:

thanks, Brian!
Avatar 10:32am Cecile:

Is it a Billy Wilder movie?
  10:32am Brendan:

Great movie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Greg from ZONE 5:

aka "The Circus". GREAT movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am JtotheK:

good morning everyone.

Too much outdoors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Greg from ZONE 5:

Wait…"The Big Carnival". My bad.
Avatar 10:33am Brian in UK:

Was this Stanley Kubrick?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Asheville Jon:

Susan: any chance I could get a scan of that pic? I've got a newspaper article (morning call) somewhere for one of his art shows. I have a lot of his shows on tape. His made up stories were pretty fantastic.
The Funhouse was about two dorrs down from GD's, with the record store iin between (if i recall correctly).
Yeah, misifits for sure, and very nice.
Avatar 10:33am Joe McG:

Kirk Douglas eats the scenery in this movie, it's amazing!

great film - belt & suspenders!
Avatar 10:34am Cecile:

I am so thrilled to hear that, Ken. Hurray!
  10:35am Susan C.:

Asheville Jon, how can we do that on a public forum w/o giving out personal info?
  10:36am Brendan:

This one and The Bad and The Beautiful cast him as a total heel
  10:36am P-90:

@Ken Ace in the Hole is def worth checking out, it underperformed at the box office when it was released, these days we'd say because it was clearly ahead of its time. Very cynical/satirical about the media.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Bas NL:

Avatar 10:37am Cecile:

Susan, if you set up a WFMU profile, you can email Asheville Jon privately.
Avatar 10:37am Cecile:

  10:37am P-90:

"Popcorn" has lyrics?! Who knew?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Asheville Jon:

yeah, I was going to say clikc on my FMU profile and see if you can get my contact info that way
  10:39am Susan C.:

Thanks, Cecile! I will try to do that later today.
I'll be in touch, Ashville Jon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Bas NL:

@P-90 not in all versions. On of the very first 45s i bought; without lyrics..
Avatar 10:39am Joe McG:

We're giving away the DVD next mic break, so if you want to win this amazing movie, get in the running now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Asheville Jon:

Thanks Susan, most appreciated! I try to get Mr. Mark stuff when possible.
Avatar 10:40am Cecile:

The only one I saw was the Devo episode, which everyone says is the best one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Stevel:

Waitresses! That's gotta be worth something!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Asheville Jon:

aaaahhhh, love the waitresses!
  10:43am P-90:

Sounds like Waitresses copped a little vibe from Romeo Void here.
Avatar 10:43am Cecile:

Waitresses were a pop Tin Huey.

I think they were parallel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Gary:

It's such a great book!
  10:45am Playing with Matches:

Fantastic book.
Avatar 10:47am Marcel M:

Ironically I think I heard once that The Beatles were the most played band on WFMU. Is that true or did I dream that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Ike:

I don't often enjoy interviews with authors as much as that one. She would probably make an excellent FMU DJ herself. Fantastic rapport w/Joe too. Bring her on as an MC!
Avatar 10:48am Marcel M:

Avatar 10:48am Marcel M:

I have bought a bunch of records because of hearing the only great song on WFMU! haha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Gary:

Amanda Petrusich on Joe's show: wfmu.org...
Avatar 10:50am Joe McG:

@Ike: She would make an excellent DJ and occasionally does appear on the radio. Either WNYU or WKCR, I can't recall which! (Thanks for the link, Gary!)
  10:50am Karen in Sleepy Hollow:

Skip James! My favorite!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Caryn:

I recently heard a Finnish version of "Popcorn" that also had lyrics. Those lyrics didn't even have anything to do with popcorn. They were all moody and about drifting fog, which really sounds weird considering the poppy music...

Also, "Ace in the Hole" is superb, and makes for a great cynical newspaper movie double-bill with "Sweet Smell of Success".
  10:51am Brendan:

@Joe speaking of Criterion, are you familiar with their compilation of Les Blank documentaries called Always For Pleasure? Its got some really nice regional docs on music culture and yes, Polka!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am ChrisB.:

Is the next prize one of the copies that doesn't play?
Avatar 10:52am Marcel M:

Skip James had an unbelievable sound.. so dark. Open D minor baby.
Avatar 10:52am Joe McG:

@ChirsB: Yes, I will personally smash it for you, too!
Avatar 10:53am Cecile:

She's covering herself.
Avatar 10:53am Marcel M:

Woah.. that intro was too cool
Avatar 10:53am Chris M.:

this is a great version
Avatar 10:55am Cecile:

When I worked at a used store in the 80s all these frat guys would come in and demand a copy of the Merry Clayton solo album. They didn't know the meaning of the words "limited pressing and out of print."
Avatar 10:57am Cecile:

Joe, if you can sneak anything from Go For Your Guns or Harvest for the World on, that would be great.
Avatar 10:57am Cecile:

Ronnie Isley, one of the greatest singers ever.
Avatar 10:57am SheWolf:

Cecile, you know about FOTC tour right?
Avatar 10:57am Joe McG:

Avatar 11:01am SheWolf:

  11:01am will:

Tallinn is in Estonia!!!
  11:02am Danne D:

Tallin is in Estonia. I think it is the capital
Avatar 11:02am Cecile:

Nice! I at least got main floor.
  11:04am Sam:

Why are you playing all this crap?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am steveo:

Avatar 11:05am djsheilab:

Couldn't agree more @Ken! The overwhelming amount of positive comments definitely softens the blow of the few negative ones.
  11:07am P-90:

Just searched Merry Clayton to see what she's been up to lately, didnt know she lost both legs below the knees in a car accident in 2014. Doing OK and back in the studio now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Rich in Washington:

Overall, I've always found the comments and overall nature of WFMU listeners on the board to be really pleasant. The couple of times I've subbed on (GTDR) WFMU shows, I found the commenters to be encouraging and fun to interact with. I wish we had that kind of connection with listeners at my regular station.
Maybe some WFMU shows/hours get less favorable listener/commenters but I've not seen a lot of it.
Avatar 11:10am Joe McG:

@Rich: You're so right, Rich, our listeners are by and large wonderful commenters!
  11:11am Polyus:

Seeing Ryley Walker this weekend in Chicago, can't wait.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Parq:

What Ken just said is one of my main arguments for supporting the station. It is not just that they're out in front in terms of incorporating web presence into the station's life -- it's that what they're doing is so elemental. Of *course* they're recording shows and archiving them. Of *course* they're video simul-webbing key programs. Of *course* they have a web playlist where listeners can follow what's playing. Don't all stations do that? No? *No* other stations do that?? Amazing.
Avatar 11:11am Mary Wing:

It would be ironically funny if future generations thought that WFMU was the way all radio was programmed because our archives are so readily available (and all the crappy commercial stations don't have archives to compare us with).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am -Ken:

I think the person who pledged from Estonia is maybe the owner of Murro, the smiling Dalmation who was our mascot last year.
Avatar 11:12am Joe McG:

@Mary: Love that idea! The aliens too will be, like, "WTF?"
  11:13am Will:

Is playing this song from Primrose Green an example of the one great song on the record syndrome?
Avatar 11:14am Joe McG:

@Will: Not at all, as you will hear when I play one more cut!
Avatar 11:15am Cecile:

Avatar 11:15am Mary Wing:

A Todd Rundgren cover?!?!
  11:16am P-90:

Todd must have LOVED this
Avatar 11:16am Cecile:

Ironically Todd covered soul tunes on side 2 of 'A Wizard...'
Swag For Life Member 11:18am Ralphine:

Didn't Hendrix play with the Isley Brothers early on?
Avatar 11:18am Mary Wing:

Damn, now I'm bummed that I'm not eligible to win this box set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am coelacanth:

'morning Joe and all
Avatar 11:18am Cecile:

their younger brothers and cousins joined the band in the late 60s, and brought their taste along. Ralphine, I believe that's right.
Avatar 11:19am Joe McG:

He sure did, Ralphine! There's an album's worth in the box set!
Avatar 11:19am Brian in UK:

Joe/Ken trying to increae Swag for Life total. I clicked No thanks. I want 100% of these monies to support WFMU. Then clicked Next Step, it does nothing.
Avatar 11:19am Cecile:

Mary, you can still find some titles cheap used. You will not find clean copies of Harvest for the World anywhere though.
Avatar 11:20am Joe McG:

@Brian: Let me know how much you want to increase by and we can make it happen in the office later on...
Avatar 11:21am Brian in UK:

Joe I have emailed you as requested already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am coelacanth:

Isleys also covered the beatles, Stephen Still, doobie bros...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am annie:

2 things:
1. how many of you listeners actually remember your number?
2. i forgot the 2nd question
Avatar 11:23am dcp:

DANG, what the hell? People calling me and expecting me to do stuff! It's MARATHON time, people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am annie:

Avatar 11:23am Brian in UK:

Avatar 11:23am Joe McG:

Will look for it, Annie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am coelacanth:

Joe, my swag4Life donation will automatically be continued, right? or should i email you?
Avatar 11:24am Cecile:

I don't know mine.
Avatar 11:24am Cecile:

this cover is amazing. Talk about new context.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am annie:

i always have to look mine up, just another number to remember. ... sigh..
  11:26am Listener Alexandra:

you are the bestest, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am MattBelow:

@coelacanth: Swag4Lyfe continues automatically. An e-mail was sent out a few days ago to choose swag and/or make adjustments to your monthly amount.
Avatar 11:29am Mary Wing:

Ah, the Swag For Life radio icon is fixed, that was bothering me but I didn't want to bring it up when so many other techie glitches are going on.
  11:29am KP:

Joan Baez was Maggie. Never heard of Baby Blue in that context but he did sing it directly at Donovan in Don't Look Back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am coelacanth:

Thanks Matt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am doctorjazz:

Can't find the Swag for Life email, definitely have to get Joe's premium after hearing this stuff today...Not sure how to do the ordering for premiums.
Avatar 11:32am Listener 108581:

You can look your listener # up in your profile.
Avatar 11:32am Cecile:

Sheena is a folk singer.
Avatar 11:32am Joe McG:

Hey, folks, I just need a grand to make my goal today, so if you haven't pledged yet, please say hello!
Avatar 11:33am Joe McG:

@doctorjazz: If you haven't received the S4L e-mail, it should be coming in the next day or so. If you don't get it, just e-mail me: jmcgasko@wfmu.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am MattBelow:

@doctorjazz: If you use gmail, mine got sent to the promotions folder
Avatar 11:35am Mary Wing:

WTF, just as I finished typing my last comment, the S4L radio icon is broken again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am annie:

Testimonial: i live on an extremely low monthly budget (thanks obama) and can tell you that the amount i pay per month is negligable, painless, and just about equal to the amount of a nice dinner out.. jus' sayin'
Avatar 11:36am Brian in UK:

Joe does not do things by half. This is a DOUBLE CD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am efd:

MattBelow with the hot tip! Just found my renewal email in that promotions folder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Ike:

I didn't realize that e-mail went out until y'all said something. Gmail didn't like that e-mail and sent it to the "Promotions" folder instead of the "Primary" folder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Ike:

Oops, y'all already commented as such. Me slow on the trigger.
Avatar 11:37am Cecile:

I am hoping other people step up. I spent myself poor last year.
Avatar 11:37am Joe McG:

@Ike: Yikes! Everybody check your e-mail folders for our S4L e-mail, if you're in the program. And we haven't even talked about one of the BEST SHIRTS ever that comes with a S4L pledge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am doctorjazz:

It may be in my Promotions folder in gmail...but, I'm one of those folks who is really bad at clearing the box, have hundreds of emails there. Have to go through it again later.
Avatar 11:40am Brian in UK:

Would pledge Joe maybe next week when you are de-glitched.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am efd:

@doctorjazz, for what it's worth mine was right near the top of my promo folder - it was just received a couple of hours ago. Hopefully yours is in there too and not too buried yet. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Ike:

@doctorjazz, inside your Gmail, just search for WFMU. (Or Joe McGasko.) That's what I did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am coelacanth:

i had no trouble finding it. i just don't check my emails that often in general.

(...and i'd much rather have another black woof-moo, to be honest.)
Avatar 11:40am Joe McG:

@Brian: That's fine, I'll be back next week with my co-host Samantha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am doctorjazz:

To give you an idea of my email status, gmail tells me I have 13.961 messages...:)
(don't see it in the recent arrivals).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am coelacanth:

...actually i like the new shirt...it's just that i REALLY like the woof-moo, and it's only a matter of time before i ruin it!
Avatar 11:46am Cecile:

I used to listen to a transistor under the covers.
Avatar 11:46am Brian in UK:

Joe/Ken interaction, communication that is everything.
Avatar 11:47am Cecile:

Normally, I would think that was an overstatement. But lately...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Carmichael:

Good morning all. Hiya Ken and Joe.
Avatar 11:48am Listener 108581:

dang, I don't even know what happened to my woof-moo shirt. I think my daughter stole it. I have to get more FMU shirts to clothe her now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Listener Scott:

Oven Digital!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Michael in Seattle:

Free-form radio has always been important to me. Years ago we could hear re-broadcasts of Jean Shepherd's WOR show on KRAB-fm. Now long gone.
Avatar 11:54am Listener 108581:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Listener Scott:

(I worked at Oven Digital in the mid-90s and I recall Oven being somewhat involved then in helping WFMU get online; not thanks to me, but definitely other people at Oven.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Lewis:

Can I change my Name to Joe?
Avatar 11:54am Listener 108581:

oops. The % raised box must have jumped the gun...
Avatar 11:55am Listener 108581:

or .. uh, maybe I'll stop talking about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am annie:

i give my wfmu tees to the housemate, he loves 'em. and the hoodie is going to my son, as i am not a hoodie-girl.
Avatar 11:55am Cecile:

You could be Joe Lewis.
Avatar 11:56am Joe McG:

Hey I just reached my goal!! Thanks, everybody!!! You're the greatest. Keep being there for WFMU and we'll be there for you!
Avatar 11:56am Joe in UK:
