  5:20pm Colin:

just walked in to hear this and completely surprised this isn't my itunes playing.... I've been getting pretty deep into Gene Clark lately... I'm talking 80s demos
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Gaylord Fields:

@Colin: I'm going through a heavy GC phase myself.
  5:22pm StuBot:

Gaylord, you are seriously great at picking music that makes the present moment feel momentous. I can't think of any higher goal for a DJ. Thank you for making Sunday special.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Gaylord Fields:

@StuBot: Appreciate the kind words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Uncle Michael:

That Fred Neil was good enough to get me up from a nap to say so. Yes, this is how fast I'm moving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Gaylord Fields:

@Uncle Michael: It's one of my all-time favorites, and it's a struggle not to play it every single week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Uncle Michael:

And I'm thinking about how long I need to wait to steal it in order to look brilliant.
Avatar 5:31pm geezerette:

Such a lovely,shimmering,dreamscape.
  5:33pm Colin:

@Gaylord Awesome. Here's a link to the fan-made box set of unreleased stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Gaylord Fields:

@Colin: Thanks! That will make my day!

@Uncle Michael: The results of my thefts from other WFMU DJs usually manifest themselves immediately.

@geezerette: Wasn't it, though?
  5:36pm Mr C:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mr C: This one's for you.

  5:55pm sugarwolf:

Hi hi hi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Gaylord Fields:

@BILL: It's primarily listening and being familiar with the songs, as this is mostly my own collection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: Hi!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm dale:

nice sounds for a springish evening, gaylord. puppet on a string sandie shaw? that was very dusty.
Avatar 5:58pm geezerette:

Struck lately by the sweet melancholy contained in so much of the music from the early '70s. What was that? Sadness at leaving first youth behind on the part of artists crossing into their 30s? Loss of innocence following assassinations and nonsensical, unwinnable war? It's so present.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sad Healings
...& gentle, gentle betrayals...
~ there are only the Beautiful Impermances ~
The Timeless theme - Mortality
- shall be affirmed by the company of the lonely.
It's Life & Life only
- all you needed was the Soundtrack
- so stand, stand, & walk, & do

...whatever your concerns, we assure you
- soon enuff there will be Nothing, Nothing Left @ all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm coelacanth:

good evening Gaylord and all
Avatar 5:59pm geezerette:

Sounds like the music of regret.
Avatar 6:01pm geezerette:

So John Donne. Very true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: That's a very cogent and very poetic film review of my first hour's movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Gaylord Fields:

@coelacanth: Glad you could make it!
  6:09pm flashbazbo:

Spring 72 was dr my eyes. Living without you. Baby blue. Everything I own. Old man. Christ American pie.

I always put it down to a post Beatles depression inspiration.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Gaylord Fields:

flashbazbo: You wouldn't necessarily know this, but I have a strong fascination with the pop hits of 1972.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: One and the same. And Dusty is always a good role model.
  6:26pm flashbazbo:

Who wouldn't. It was the a peak for reasons already stated. Even the bad ones were great. I forgot. It's going to take some time.

It really fell apart pice by piece after that. It was excruciating. And those were my tender years. Thank the Buddha for fm radio
  6:27pm Colin:

@Gaylord I sent you a link
Avatar 6:29pm Ryab:

Their not helicopters, their whirly-birds, daddy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@flashbazbo: That's precisely my take: that 1972 was the peak year for commercial pop music before a slow decline and eventual leveling off.
Avatar 6:31pm Ryab:

Oops, something's wrong they're.
  6:31pm Carmichael:

Daddy loves his David McCallum ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Gaylord Fields:

@Ryab: To quote Gertrude Stein, there's no there there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Gaylord Fields:

@flashbazbo: "It's Going to Take Some Time" was also a 1972 hit, too. Even your subconscious loves that year's hit songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm melinda:

Beautiful music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello Gaylorders. Talking "72, the NY radio(progressive commercial) did a nosedive from that point. Never were the words commercial & freeform ever spoken in the same sentence again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I hope everyone remembers how great these selections are when Gaylord passes the hat around next week! We're getting our reward now.
  6:41pm P-90:

Then came: The Disco Years
  6:41pm Mr C:

Today's show, an Oscar worthy performance. The envelope please....
  6:42pm Fred:

Yes Ken. This is one great show.
Avatar 6:42pm glenn:

just out of curiosity, has ANYBODY ever seen "a summer place"? i contend its viewership is in inverse proportion to the number of times the theme has been played.
oh. and hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: You rang?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Gaylord Fields:

@glenn: I've seen it. No great shakes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm chrissy:

Good Lord, this show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm melinda:

Great timing w/the disco!
  6:45pm P-90:

"A Summer Place" is def worth a watch, if one is interested at all in the culture of that early sixties period. It's a bit like Dobie Gillis crossed with Peyton Place.
  6:47pm flashbazbo:

Gaylord. Someone should write a book about it. Also in boston speaking of early 70s sad mortal beauty changes and star man were both good am hits.
  6:48pm ledzeppelinsucks:

hewoe from Tacoma
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Gaylord Fields:

@chrissy: Thanks!

@melinda: Right?

@flashbazbo: If I cared to write a book, that would be one for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Uncle Michael:

Best song title ever.
Avatar 6:50pm glenn:

better than mississippi goddamn?
  6:51pm P-90:

Boulder Damn?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@glenn: Even better than "Hoover Dam," by Hüsker Dü.
  6:52pm ledzeppelinsucks:

anyone force fed Led Zeppelin reruns at work?
Avatar 6:52pm glenn:

damn yankees.
  6:53pm flashbazbo:

I'm partial to. "Montreal, puhlease" by the Greengrocers mysef
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Gaylord Fields:

@ledzeppelinsucks: Pray tell, what sort of job do you have?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

When "Gaylord Fields, Radio DJ Hero" comes out, that will be my favorite song title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Gaylord Fields:

It may be bad form to say this, but I'm really happy with this week's program.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@Ken From Hyde Park: Oh, you!
  6:56pm P-90:

@Daylord: As are we all, I daresay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Adrian in London:

Just tuning in! Looks like this will be a good Monday-morning listen in the archives.
  6:57pm P-90:

  6:57pm ledzeppelinsucks:

IT shit I travel all over US I hate Sammy Fagarosmith, ABCD, Jon BonJoVanhalen, Eric Claptelloncamp, Sting, Boston, Foreigner I hate construction worker music I love rock and roll
  6:57pm Marcel M:

Thanks gaylord!!!
Avatar 6:58pm glenn:

huh. i'm a construction worker. what's your point exactly?
Avatar 6:59pm glenn:

personally, i hate morons who stereotype, but maybe that's just me.
  6:59pm P-90:

Thanks, Dr. G
  7:00pm ledzeppelinsucks:

I hate construction worker music Foreigner Loverboy ABCD Do you listen to that swill all day?
  7:03pm ledzeppelinsucks:

I have been to over 90 construction sites for work lately and it's all the same boring noise. Also Boeing workers in Everett and Renton are into that KISW and KZOK crap. What is with the 70's rock reruns?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm coelacanth:

(Thanks Gaylord!)
