Baby!! Good morning old boy. Take it easy on us this morning, Mike. We are delicate.
  11:02am John W.:

It's great to see Emitt Rhodes will be back on the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Uncle Michael:

Take a cold tater and wait, Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Baby:

Maybe refer to him as Big Jimmy. He might like that better.
  11:16am Nachurall:

Love the hits! Thank you sir.
  11:18am Eddy in Australia:

So which other dead musicians aren't returning your calls and emails?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Baby:

That damned Buddy Holly is a stuck up bastard. He never returns anything.
Avatar 11:21am Michael Shelley:

The question is which dead musicians ARE returning them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Baby:

Paul McCartney
  11:23am ?:

I hope Lloyd Price is OK.
  11:25am adam:

is this a sylvers from the family band of the same name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Baby:

Paul is dead? I bury Paul, etc...
  11:26am 1whoknewcthulhu:

Wow--I haven't heard that Jackson's track, probably, since it first charted.
  11:26am burpage:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Baby:

When this song came out, I flipped!!
  11:27am 1whoknewcthulhu:

Doh! Mistook the Foster Sylvers for the Jackson 5. Mea culpa.
  11:29am Eddy in Australia:

Reminds me of the time a British journo called the Polydor press office for an interview with Jimi Hendrix, because "Crosstown Traffic" was in the charts after being used in a TV ad. The year was 1990.
  11:29am burpage:

yeah well emitt rodes somebody made for me---- badfinger--- hehe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Jeff from Rahway:

I love "Girl of my Dreams"
  11:33am John:

ditto to "Girl of My Dreams".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Jeff from Rahway:

The Starland Ballroom is a scary joint right out of some creepy movie. Ted Leo opened there years ago for Against Me and the crowd was not fond of TL. I thought I was gonna get the crap kicked out of me by the aggro bouncers and fans. I found some retired cop to hang out with and discuss college football but Against Me and this venue were awful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Ken From Hyde Park:

It just occurred to me. Whatever happened to Rerun from the old TV show What's Happening!!?
  11:38am burpage:

i agree starland ballroom thats there own click then when you get inside then they pick and choose
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Ken From Hyde Park:

Well, a few seconds of Google results say Fred Berry became an ordained minister and died in 2003 at age 52. That's too bad.
  11:39am John:

Which dead musicians are returning their calls? I guess there art least two ways to answer...

1) Phil Lesh, etc.

2) Styx, Genesis, Kansas, REO Speedwagon, etc: bands who refuse to stay dead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am myron feld:

Cactus Blossoms need a new sound guy -- vocals are mixed way too low.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Jeff from Rahway:

IIRC, Starland Ballroom usually books more hard rock and corporate punk bands. I'm sure the young ladies at your gig really wished they were at a Florda-Georgia Line concert,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Baby:

You mean people in the USA are stupid, and clueless??
  11:43am burpage:

  11:43am Cal Zone:

Worst crowd recording ever. Best Michael Shelley rant ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Baby:

Check that spelling, Mike. two more SS
Avatar 11:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I wager Cactus Blossoms consider the comparison overstated - but it's like having new Everlys tracks - just that good - not just the singing but great songs...
  11:45am RCinMT:

"missippi"? they spell it right in the song. which is great.
Avatar 11:46am Jimmy Wipper:

I hear there are a lotta tomatoes down at the Starland Ballroom!
  11:46am Tommy Caldwell:

Mike, were you out on the floor or in one of the bar cubbies? Sounds like, from the conversations going on, you were by one of the bars. I've been to Starland so I know the layout and you described it accurately. I find when you're on the floor, where you go to actually listen to the band, the crowd is paying attention to the artist. By the bar it's all chatter. It's a bar, what do you expect? And yes, it is a New Jersey bar, so the girls say like alot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am melinda:

@Rev.Rabbit: yes, I concur!
  11:47am Eddy in Australia:

I came for the rant, I'm staying for the hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am James in ATL:

Michael, Thanks for your story about Starland. We have a concert park in Atlanta called Chastain which is in an ultra expensive neighborhood and has extreme sound limits and a curfew. My favorite quote from a friend is, "I went there to hear Elvis Costello and all I heard about all night was Megan's summer dress."
  11:47am Hackensack Slim:

I feel your pain, Michael. And when it's sold out, there's no escape from the jabbering nitwits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am drr:

In the south, they teach you how to spell Mississippi. It's like this: "M I crooked letter crooked letter I crooked letter crooked letter I humppack humpback I."
Avatar 11:48am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...which is a bit like a Costello line - haha...
  11:49am Eddy in Australia:

@James in ATL: That said, Megan's summer dress *was* pretty cute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am ChrisB.:

Starland is a dump, and the staff considers their jobs more like cow punching and cattle herding. The goal is to "get this thing over with," and avoid an excessive amount of personal injuries.
  12:03pm muhrvis:

Emmit Rhodes is such a nice humble and direct person. Thanks for this interview.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Jeff from Rahway:

We now know that Emmit Rhodes loves love. <3
  12:07pm burpage:

theres always clicks and i was jerk somewhere in a club-- concert im sure but as we get older no ones aloud to be a jerk nah let them be or dont go
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm drr:

"You are a successful man!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Uncle Michael:

Oh, man. I like Michael too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm drr:

Very different from the previous interview.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm drr:

Before I got divorced, my wife said, "Your problem is you always do what you want." It's a way of life but it can be a difficult one.
  12:19pm clarke:

superb, MS!!! emmitt, compared to last time, is ON TOP OF THE WORLD!!
Avatar 12:19pm Jim Price:

Great interview Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm drr:

yes, excellent interview, thanks for letting him just talk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Summer and Michael:

Michael, love this song by The Keys! Weasel used to play it in DC. Great show, as ever...
  12:38pm clarke:

wow - weasel!! i was tuned in for many weasel shows esp out of annapolis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Cat:

Great show, per usual, Michael. Glad I decided against the trip to Sayreville NJ last weekend, and instead went to a baseball tourney in SC. We tuned in from the beach last week.
Avatar 12:42pm Melissa Jean:

hay good mornin!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Baby:

And more THUMBS!!
  12:52pm clarke:

SS is too ill - but emitt ain't???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm drr:

That's a whole different jurisdiction; that song made no sense.
Avatar 12:54pm djsheilab:

I totally forgot about this Muffs song! Takes me back. Thanxxxx!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm drr:

I will mention it to them next time I see them, which is all the time, because they reliably open for Barbara Lynn when she comes over to Austin from Beaumont.
Avatar 12:57pm djsheilab:

This PSA!!! Glorious!
