Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

I like Loons a lot! They are cool birds...
  4:03pm Cliff:

Hi everybody. There's a new Nurse With Wound?
  4:04pm Cliff:

Aha, I see it on the playlist - Lumb's Sister
Avatar 4:04pm Brian Turner:

Lumb's is out as a reissue. Apparently Lilith is out too on vinyl reissue. I don't think there's a recent album, could be wrong? Buy that Liles Groundhogs thing!
  4:07pm Cliff:

Ah ok, I don't have NWW's discog memorized. Already have Lilith on CD. Liles Groundhogs, whazzat? (goes off to search)
  4:09pm @djelrock:

This girl is good but she curses a lot.
Avatar 4:11pm Lopez:

Listening to Resurrection Shuffle while watching a '90s Gravediggaz video with the sound off. Really works pretty well

...sounds like Nina Hagen Produced by efd...worx real goood...
Avatar 4:14pm Wild Neil:

I am your Venus?

Avatar 4:16pm Wild Neil:

I'd like to hear Styx do this song. But that's just me...
Avatar 4:16pm Chris from DC:

Von Lmo!
  4:17pm Polyus:

crap, I missed the Jazz Loon! I sent that to someone as a prank once.
  4:17pm Cliff:

I dunno Wild Neil, Styx would probly stretch it out to 8 minutes with an obligatory cheesy synth solo in the middle
Avatar 4:18pm Wild Neil:

@Cliff-you mean an AWESOME Styx-y"cheesy synth solo in the middle"...
Avatar 4:19pm Wild Neil:

Look up Von Lmo people. He is really out there!
  4:19pm Cliff:

SURE, whaddevah ya say
  4:20pm Cliff:

My Dad (R.I.P.) was really into Styx, growing up with him I think I've got all of their AWESOME synth solos permanently engrained in my auditory cortex
Avatar 4:24pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

JEEZOFRACK, missed Von Lmo.
Not going anywhere now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...missed Wh♂Cover, ElevatorsCover...& a toon called 'The Girl Who Looked Like Bobby Gillispie' fergawdsake...
  4:29pm Cliff:

Boy, that Lab Rats song is obscure, looks like I'm actually going to have purchase some physical media or wait for this show to be archived before I can hear it again!
Avatar 4:29pm Cheri Pi:

cool swag this year... cant wait... cant wait... cant wait...

  4:35pm Cliff:

"Back in the day, 20 years ago now, I found an osteopath in Euclid, Ohio, who would prescribe for any pretty girl who walked through the door 30 clean American football-shaped amphetamine tablets each month for a nominal fee. It wasn't long before I had my wife, my sister, my niece and the lady who lived across the road going regularly. On the street, you could get $10 for three tablets and I was making money hand over fist. Such was largely how the financing for the two Cleveland Confidential records came together. That, and a few common robberies." - from the liner notes I found online. It pays to have attractive relatives!
Avatar 4:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Esplendor Lopez! I had no idea this existed. MEGADIG.
  4:38pm Polyus:

A few more days for me and Voivod. Apparently Melynda from Eight Bells broke her leg a couple of nights ago, no idea if they are gonna finish the tour.

  4:45pm P-90:

Agreed! "MEGADIG"!
4:46pm david from radio active ks:

,,,,@Cliff,,,Its notta Mom-n-Pop biz anymore ! Its mass production to trap many willing and unfortunate victims ! good story !
  4:52pm Cliff:

david from radio active ks, it would be a bit hypocritical of me to have any ethical qualms regarding the (re)selling and/or usage of drugs in the music industry. (Just ask some of the other commenters about my live-commented shroom trip from this past Friday)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm coelacanth:

having turned on my radio just as she was saying "on wkcr", i turned on the computer to tell wfmu that something was very wrong with the 90.1 signal, although i'm glad to hear Sonny Sharrock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Michael in Seattle:

i plead the fifth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

This is the only way I'm gonna hear KCR in NH now...
Avatar 4:57pm Cecile:

I like how his guitar almost sounds like a kora in spots.
  4:57pm Chapelhillian:

Way digging this Sonny Sharrock - but its a total bummer that WKCR hasn't streamed since 1/1/16 for legal reasons they are sorting out. They are a vital source for jazz/classical and especially avant variants of each, in case the FMUniverse is not familiar
Avatar 4:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

1974 did have heaviness.
  4:58pm Cliff:

Aha, I found some Russian MP3 sharing site that has the Lab Rats cover. After buying the $25 used CD on Amazon (fairly reasonable price, everything else was $40 on up, and it's going for at least $80 on Discogs if I want it on vinyl, jeeeeez)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Michael in Seattle:

squeezing a savage
Avatar 5:04pm geezerette:

Brian T.;just want to say the kind of d.j.-ing that happens at fmu is absolutely an art form. I think of you guys as musicians and the nearest visual equivalent would be assemblage at its highest level. Cheers!
  5:05pm Cliff:

Ok, I took a re-listen, and Lab Rats is definitely going on my Aphrodite mix CD. I can keep Bananarama's "Cruel Summer" for the Persephone CD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Marcel M:

  5:09pm P-90:

  5:13pm Cliff:

P-90, thanks for the link....it's awful to hear about what non-mainstream stations have to go through these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Save Internet Radio on fb:
New royalty rate laws have recently choked out several small / non-profit online broadcasters.
Avatar 5:16pm Cecile:

maybe the reason they won't give a reason is that paperwork that was supposed to be filed by them wasn't filed in time?
Avatar 5:19pm Cecile:

nope, sounds like stupid legal internet radio stupidity on someone else's part...
Avatar 5:22pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Coneheads reminding this rev. of Inner City Unit at the peak of their powers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Michael in Seattle:

"Online stations face limits of how many songs by any particular artist — or even from a single album — can be played in a given period of time." Hmm, WFMU would never be in violation of THAT.
Avatar 5:28pm Lopez:

tremendous set BT
  5:29pm Pop Francis:

Bless you, BT
  5:29pm Cliff:

One of the many advantages of freeform radio!
  5:29pm P-90:

@DJ Brian: ditto, tremendous set
  5:32pm Cliff:

Czech Up! Sounds like I will need to get this for my move to Prague this summer to teach ESL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

FMU though is Listener Supported - not a profit maker - & must pay the royalty rates like everyone else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Michael in Seattle:

@Cliff: some time ago i signed up for Czech word-of-the-day:

  5:43pm Cliff:

Thanks Michael in Seattle, I'll just watch that every day for the next four months, should have plenty of Czech under my belt by then!
  5:45pm Cliff:

"Czech Under My Belt" could be a good band name too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Michael in Seattle:

Yes, it would, Cliff.
Today's phrase: Malá dívka je nadšená.
The little girl is excited.
  5:52pm Cliff:

Cool...can you do a word-by-word gloss of that phrase? (i.e. what does "mala" mean, "divka", etc.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Michael in Seattle:

mala (small) divka (girl)
nadšený (adj, excited)
Avatar 5:55pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

hm.. "Lalibela" = also the name of an Ethiopian restaurant 'round the corner from home base. Suddenly at risk of wicked hunger...
  5:55pm Cliff:

Neato. Czech will be fun to learn, I'll have to unlearn my French/Spanish/Italian first, because I see a word like "mala" and think "bad", not "small"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Michael in Seattle:

@Cliff: yes, i have the same problem. Slavic is mucho different.
  5:57pm Cliff:

And hopefully the Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Tagalog, and Old Norse jangling around in my brain won't interfere too much as well
  5:57pm Cliff:

Thank you Brian, great show today! :D
Avatar 5:58pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Michael in Seattle:
