Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Ken From Hyde Park:

The official arrival of Monday morning. When the Yips come in.
Avatar 9:07am Joe McG:

Good morning, Annie, Wild Neil, and Ken! All yipped in.
  9:08am Brendan:

Imagine. You are hearing the song being written! On an old typewriter no less. Cool. Hi Joe.
Avatar 9:09am Joe McG:

Hey Brendan, pretty morning here in Jersey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Mike East:

Avatar 9:14am Joe McG:

Hola, Guido and Mike! Early risers!~
Avatar 9:14am FernandoBelmondo:

Hi Joe, thanks for the morning B&S treat.
Avatar 9:16am Joe McG:

I was in the mood, Fernando! And no, no one has died, everybody. As far as I know, all members of B&S are alive and well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am doctorjazz:

Good morning all!
  9:16am Mungo Perkins:

Alba gu bràth!
Avatar 9:17am Wild Neil:

Glad nobody died. Too many people were dying there for awhile in the music biz...
Swag For Life Member 9:18am tadpoles:

Still having trouble getting over Bowie.
Avatar 9:19am Joe McG:

Welcome, Mungo, doctor j, tadpoles. I hear ya, tadpoles.
  9:26am Brendan:

The branches of the B
Avatar 9:28am KP:

Hey there, Joe! Nice sunny morning music
  9:29am Brendan:

The branches of the B and S tree sure are fruitful. ( the previous post had B
Avatar 9:30am Joe McG:

@KP: Yes, B&S are good for sunny weather as well as rainy weather.
  9:30am Brendan:

Comments board truncates posts with ampersands - guess it interprets as tags
  9:31am Mungo Perkins:

Lovely sunny afternoon in the North of Scotland just now
Avatar 9:32am Joe McG:

Mungo, you are in the perfect place for this set.
  9:34am Mungo Perkins:

Avatar 9:36am KP:

God Help the Girl impressed. Maybe it's on my Matador box set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am sphere:

hello all
  9:46am djsheilab:

Morning Joe + gang! This Tindersticks one gets me every time. Do they score films? If not, they should!
Avatar 9:46am Joe McG:

Hello, sphere!
Avatar 9:47am Joe McG:

Hi, Sheila B! They do, as a matter of fact--I think about 3 different soundtracks so far, maybe more...! :)
  9:48am djsheilab:

@Joe McG So happy to hear it! Time to get on discogs!
Avatar 9:49am Joe McG:

@sb: They score a lot of Claire Denis' films. My fave is "Nenette et Boni."
Avatar 9:51am Ear Hammer:

I hope there is more B&S on the horizon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Brendan - It chops the ampersand if you're not logged in. ( & )
Avatar 9:54am Joe McG:

@EH: God bless you, I feel like playing them all day. Actually, yesterday, I did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am JtotheK:

good morning everyone.

Good morning, JtotheK!
  10:00am Mark R:

"Cities in Dust," an old favorite!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe. Sunshine & Lollipops over here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Brian in UK:

Were Sharks ever on Geffen? It would be appropriate.
Avatar 10:03am Joe McG:

Hey Mark, hey Brian, hope you're well this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Brian in UK:

Since you ask, got this killer stiff neck that is passing the pain down to my fingertips. Otherwise, hunky dory, for a Monday.
  10:06am Brendan:

@Ken from Hyde Park, thanks! Another reason to join the 'family' and become legit. Now a dumb question, where do I sign in on the phone app? Thx.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Brian in UK:

@Brendan Front page under Programming dropdown third selection
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Mike East:

can't sign in on the app, Brendan. Not yet anyways.
Swag For Life Member 10:17am tadpoles:

Brian in UK - Were you talking about English band Sharks with Chris Spedding? Excellent under-rated band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am doctorjazz:

Man, is this Charles Lloyd lovely...have the album but haven't listened to it much yet...
  10:20am Pete L:

This is great - is there an album? - Charles Lloyd? thanks
  10:21am Brendan:

@Brian @mike thanks
Avatar 10:22am Joe McG:

@Pete: Yes, it's new on Blue Note and all very nice in many styles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Brian in UK:

tadpoles well I was refering to Siouxsie who to my surprise was on Geffin. David Geffin has been referred to as a shark and the idea came into my head of Sharks being on his label. I agree about Mr Spedding though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Brian in UK:

Saw Charles Lloyd couple of years ago. Still got it live.
  10:24am Pete L:

I see there is now nevermind but i do wonder if it all gospel-type instrumentals - love that stuff. nice set
  10:25am Pete L:

Avatar 10:27am djsheilab:

Oh my! This Lena Platonos record. I'd like her voice in my headphones 24/7.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Greg from ZONE 5:

Morning Joe and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am JtotheK:

@sheilab - i was listening to your program Friday via app -- your single of the week 'Make Me Believe In You' was an excellent choice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am JtotheK:

@sheilab pt. 2 - as was The Supremes 'Love Is Like an Itching In My Heart' -- that's a great 45, the flip 'He's All I Got' is also really really good.
Avatar 10:32am MattBelow:

Morning Joe and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am sphere:

didn't really like the Hateful Eight myself. and they destroyed that 19th century Martin guitar too! arrgh.
  10:34am Brendan:

'Stand Naked Clown' sounds not only dramatic but traumatic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am annie:

i gave the H-8 a try, i really did.. but it got way too red and bloody toawards the end. i like his movies, though if he'd cut back on the vats'0'blood
Avatar 10:34am djsheilab:

Thanks @JtotheK! That Supremes 45 is a great double-sider indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Lewis:

Saw The Hateful 8 last night - it is very well done and brutal to the Nth degree. Not a nice story in the least... But I did like it. Probably one of those I will see once...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Lewis:

@Annie's point on the vats 'o blood is well made and on target
Avatar 10:37am Joe McG:

Hey Sheila, there is a record coming up I'd like your translation help with...
Avatar 10:38am Todd-o-phonic:

Good thing the gal in question in this song was so warm and not too chilly for Twilley!
Avatar 10:39am djsheilab:

@Joe McG A Japanese record? : ) Happy to help!
Avatar 10:39am Joe McG:

@Todd: Ha ha!
Avatar 10:43am djsheilab:

Nothing like 80s J-pop! So sweet n' squeaky.
Avatar 10:45am Joe McG:

@sb: So, something about weddings, I guess?
Avatar 10:46am djsheilab:

Oops @Joe McG....I wasn't listening to the lyrics. I shall listen closely in the archives and let you know.
Avatar 10:47am Joe McG:

Thanks, Sheila! A glass smashes at the end, so I'm wondering if it's a happy wedding bell or if there's something odd going on. Also, one of the English lyrics is "SEX WAX." Wha??
Avatar 10:48am MattBelow:

  10:48am Brendan:

@Joe http://www.project-imas.com/wiki/Wedding_Bell_(Sugar_cover)
the last lines are hilarious
Avatar 10:49am MattBelow:

@Joe: Wax for the wedding night o' course!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Lewis:

@JoeMcG - there used to be a surf board wax called sex wax...
  10:50am Brendan:

Dr Zoggs wax to be precise
Avatar 10:50am Joe McG:

@Matt: Ha! Maybe you're right. @Lewis: Ah, so maybe they went surfing on their honeymoon! They are dressed in surfer clothes on the sleeve, so that makes sense!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am ChrisB.:

Is this the flip of Mull of Kyntire?
Avatar 10:52am Joe McG:

@ChrisB: No, totally separate weird hit.
Avatar 10:52am djsheilab:

@Brendan Damn you! Amen! BRILLIANT. @JoeMcG I think you should end your show with these" Wedding Bell II" words of wisdom.
Avatar 10:54am MattBelow:

Paul pissing off the critics with these weird songs is one of my favorite things about him.
Avatar 10:55am Joe McG:

@Matt: Yes, I like the contrarian aspect of McCartney's personality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Mike East:

Oh man, haven't heard this Mott the Hoople cover in so long!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Lewis:

@Brendan - ah yes I remember that bit now. i had a surfer girl friend who had an in-law that worked for Dr. Zoggs. I asked about the name and got something like "just because" as an explanation At least that is how I remember it. (and another one who got away...)
  11:00am Brendan:

@djsheilab do they say 'if anyone objects' in a Japanese wedding? Because it sounds like the lady singing might have had some reservations about it.
  11:02am Brendan:

@Lewis it probably 'enhanced' sales if nothing else
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Mike East:

I remember giggling about "sex wax" at Ron Jon Surf shop as a kid.
  11:03am paul:

Who else did "She's All I Got?" or is this the hit version.
  11:05am sinner:

Sung to the tune of Rocky Racoon: Ohhh, where did he go? / Joe McGasko, I really don't know. / Heyyy, he's doing his show / Of course! We should know, Joe McGasko.
Avatar 11:13am Wild Neil:

Putin just threatened to use tactical Nukes against Turkey if they invade Syria. I think tactical means smaller, battlefield sized nukes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am doctorjazz:

That's reassuring...
Avatar 11:14am Joe McG:

@sinner: Very nice song, please sing it on my answering machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Brian in UK:

Joe got to cut and run. Away next week in Norway, hoping to see the Northern Lights.
Avatar 11:15am Wild Neil:

On another note I used to use Sex Wax when I could actually surf. I was OK! This is back in the 90's...surfed Ocean City and Atlantic City NJ mainly.
Avatar 11:18am Joe McG:

Wow, Brian, very envious. Enjoy Norway! I hear it's beautiful.
Avatar 11:22am Joe B:

Mary Had a Little Lamb did chart in the US, No. 28 on Billboard, which I guess is disappointing for a 1972 solo Beatle record but considering how it was savaged by critics and fans, kind of impressive
  11:22am Brendan:

I love that song Norway by Beach House.
Avatar 11:24am Joe McG:

Thanks for keeping me honest, Joe!
  11:24am Brendan:

@Brian - what are the travel logistics to Norway from UK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Barney Grubbs:

That was a wonderfully ominous version of Little Maggie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am MD:

  11:34am Mark R:

Interesting how Yvonne is in approximately the same vocal range as Steve Winwood.
Avatar 11:34am Wild Neil:

Was this "Can't Find My Way Home" the original one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am steveo:

No. Winwood wrote it, released in 1969. en.wikipedia.org...
  11:36am Mark R:

The original was on the Blind Faith album in 1969, Neil. This is a very nice version, though.
Avatar 11:36am Joe McG:

@WNeil: No, the original is the Blind Faith one. But I really like her version.
  11:36am Mark R:

Jinx buy me a Coke Joe!
  11:37am Mark R:

I wouldn't be surprised if Clapton heard this version and it led to him asking her to sing with his band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am MD:

Diggin' the set Joe! It is helping my Head on a Monday Morning...
Thank You Sir!
Avatar 11:37am Joe McG:

Sure, Mark, but it might be a Pepsi. With milk.
Avatar 11:38am Wild Neil:

@Joe McG-Styx and about thirty others covered it too!
  11:38am Mark R:

She had also played Mary Magdalene in the Broadway production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" by that point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am MD:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am steveo:

I'd like to hear the Gilberto Gil version of Wasted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Brian in UK:

@Brendan well there are direct flights but the timing is not good. So we fly from Heathrow to Stockholm in Sweden onward to Tromso in Norway. Return via Oslo. Norway is pricey for essentials like beer.
You could sail but time is short.
Avatar 11:40am Joe McG:

@Wild Neil: Wow, Styx!~Would like to hear that version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am steveo:

Gil: that was easy. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Brian in UK:

We will go out each of the three nights looking for the Lights eating out in a Sami (local native) tent and dog sledding.
Avatar 11:42am Wild Neil:

@Joe-Yeah! I think Rush also released an album of covers also...Styx, maybe...my twelve year old is crazy about Rush, I tell him its a gateway drug music to King Crimson....
@Brian-if you get a chance, try smoked Reinder....its like the best prime rib sushi you ever had! It was at the Helsinki Finland airport, but a Swedish lady told me they ate it too, so maybe also in Norway where you are going?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am steveo:

Styx too. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am steveo:

Straight up and not to Styx-y, IMO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am steveo:

(Now back to Joe's excellent show.)
  11:45am Mark R:

I like when he's singing in the phone booth, steveo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Brian in UK:

@Wild Neil guess it is quite fat free like venison. Is it deer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am steveo:

@Mark R: Naturally!
Avatar 11:47am Wild Neil:

@Brian-not at all! Venison is kinda an acquired taste. This tastes exactly like Antelope (I read that-but also ate antelope!)...it is just like the best American beef you ever had like a filet mignon (maybe you have that in the UK?)...but BETTER...it is NOT NOT NOT like the skanky deer meet I tried five or six times...it is AMAZING...
Avatar 11:47am Wild Neil:

REINDEER is amazing...that is...
  11:48am Mark R:

I know but how will Santa deliver the TOYS?!
  11:48am Brendan:

You ate Rudolph!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Brian in UK:

Thanks Neil will try to get outside of some reindeer. Santa WHO
Avatar 11:49am Wild Neil:

@Brendan-yep. With salt and pepper! Yum....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Brian in UK:

@Mark R Take the E train.
Avatar 11:51am Roberto:

Folks, it's not all that hard. Lay = transitive. Lie = intransitive. I suppose it's possible he's addressing a chicken or other egg-laying entity, in which case "lay" could be appropriate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Matt from Springfield:

Hey Joe!
Just wanted to stop by and say I've really enjoyed this trippy acoustic set the past hour!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Jeff Golick:

So not *that* Saved by the Bell...
  11:52am Mark R:

I'm liking the wispy folkish direction the show has taken the last 20 minutes or so..very beautiful stuff. It feels like there was so much loud electric stuff in the late 60s/early 70s, maybe people's souls needed a little acoustic soothing. Or something.
Avatar 11:52am Joe McG:

Thanks, Matt, I appreciate that! And thanks everyone for listening and commenting today. I hope you all have a nice week ahead!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Brian in UK:

Our chooks have just started laying again now that the mornings are lightening up.

Hey Matt.
Avatar 11:53am Wild Neil:

@Joe-great show! It completely made me forget about impending WWIV with Russia, Turkey et al!
  11:53am Mark R:

I came across a youtube clip of the Bee Gees singing "Blowing in the Wind" on British TV in 1963. I couldn't really finish it. Boy, was their hair short.
  11:54am Mark R:

Oh, Putin's a blowhard, Neil. He and Trump will get along famously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Matt from Springfield:

And minimalist Robin G.!!

Hey Brian. Your chooks laying eggs, wouldn't they be chuchesses??
Avatar 11:56am Wild Neil:

@Mark-geez, do I REALLY want to vote for Trump so he can put his finger on the button??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Brian in UK:

Well neither of them are Charles Atlas.
Wrestle poodles and win.
