Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Irwin:

Died in 2013. What a set of pipes. bit.ly...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm DonJuanTijuana:

At least it wasn't Tasty..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Irwin:

Unfortunately this was the last listenable Rats album. Peppi became a more "sensitive" songwriter after FRTR.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm chris_in_space:

Second week in a row with Twisted Sister. Amazing.

Ah!...so there actually is a TS-Dictators connection...
  9:14pm Hackensack Slim:

Twisted Sister, Good Rats and the Dictators. Reliving my misspent youth at the Red Fox in New Brunswick. Looking forward to your guest. Thanks Evan.

i remember "zaffy's" (sp)
Avatar 9:18pm slugluv1313:

and Zaffy's too!
Red Fox Inn was on the outskirts of New Brunswick -- Somerset/North Brunswick?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Parq:

Dog show set tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm chris_in_space:

Ok this version of Cracked Actor is off the hook. Never heard TS sound like this before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm chris_in_space:

Duh. It's a Twisted Sister themed show. Ugh. I gotta read the fine print.
Avatar 9:20pm tonyb:

down rt 1 i figure
also "the manor"

used to be a joint on rt 27 too
  9:20pm Hackensack Slim:

@tonyb The Red Fox was on Rte 27 a little west (south?) of downtown New Brunswick. Zaffy's was in Piscataway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm chad from oregon:

Did Dee Snyder die?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm chad from oregon:

I'm still playing catch up! Nevermind! It's been a long couple of days.
Avatar 9:23pm slugluv1313:

yes, Red Fox Inn was on Route 27! (had been there many times but a loooooong time ago!)
AND apparently founded by a . . . HUNGARIAN! www.legacy.com...
Avatar 9:24pm tonyb:

thanks, folks!
forgive a bit of memory lane.

(zaffy's for twisted sister,
the fox for kinderhook creek)

Avatar 9:32pm Marc Francis:

Loretta: Your Teenage Lust song is great!
Avatar 9:35pm Loretta:

thank you Marc ~ I appreciate it!!!!
& Ken we'll see what Evan has to say.............
  9:35pm Hackensack Slim:

@slugluv Thanks for the Red Fox origins info. RIP William "Bela" Revesz
Avatar The Evan "Funk" Davies Show Hellraiser 2022 Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I remember Rat Race Choir. They opened for John Entwistle when he played The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie. Maybe they were his backing band; memory not clear about that.
Avatar 9:41pm Loretta:

I remember Rat Race Choir from a small club in Yonkers, NY...... very early 70's, I think.
  9:48pm JakeGould:

I want Clay to show up for Zebra!
Avatar 9:49pm slugluv1313:

@ Hackensacl Slim -- cannot seem to find much of anything on the Red Fox Inn on Route 27 -- an abandoned building by the same name in Wayne, NJ -- but thought for sure there would be more!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm melinda:

There is a screening of the film in my town tonight that I couldn't make it to, nice to hear the interview and some tunes instead.

Avatar 10:04pm Marc Francis:

Damn. This is seriously interesting.
Avatar 10:07pm tonyb:

fine point!

drinking age > 21 was huge
  10:08pm JakeGould:

@tonyb: Also, the way NYC “cabaret” laws changed under Giuliani. All of the small clubs just couldn’t exist.
Avatar 10:10pm geezerette:

Yes, forgot about Giuliani!
Avatar 10:11pm tonyb:

what was the sea change?
or something more?
Avatar 10:16pm tonyb:

good call!
  10:18pm Todd:

I saw Twisted Sister open for the Ra
Avatar 10:19pm tonyb:

whole lot of rosie/sin city/she's got the jack.
all pretty good!
  10:22pm JakeGould:

@tonyb: Drinking age was 18 before 1982. Then became 19 in 1982. And then in 1985 it became 21. Then Giuliani discovered the whole cabaret law nonsense and became a jerk about it. Good details here. gawker.com...

Also, I turned 17 in 1985 so I get to hear all this great music and heard about all these great bars and clubs and then… Bam… It’s all fading before my eyes.
  10:22pm Todd:

I saw Twisted Sister open for the Ramones at Hammerheads in the 70s
  10:23pm Hackensack Slim:

@Todd Sun Ra? Quite an eclectic bill.
  10:31pm Todd:

I'm doing today's NY Times crossword and clue 15 across is Dee Snyder
Avatar 10:31pm tonyb:

had to look it up,
similar in nj
18 in'73
19 in '80
21 in '83

helped kill a friend's new bruns. bar
(among other things)
  10:37pm Hackensack Slim:

Todd, Don't freak out, but check out 34 across.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm efd:

Todd, what's the clue?
  10:39pm JakeGould:

@tonyb: It’s also why there are no cool cafes anymore. Bleecker Street was filled with them even in the early 1980s. Then it became just cover bands and NYU blues bros. Now it’s nothing.
  10:43pm Todd:

___ Snyder (Dee in the grid)
  10:48pm JakeGould:

I thought they inhaled some helium.
  10:49pm Todd:

Oh and it's 23 across, not 15. You can see the puzzle at rexwordpuzzle.blogspot.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm efd:

I will vote for whichever presidential candidate outlaws 7" records that play at 33 rpm
  10:51pm JakeGould:

@efd: I heard Jeb Bush posted a 45 with a matrix code that said, “America.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Stevel:

I like Dark Blue, and I like them at 45 rpm.
  10:56pm Todd:

Great show btw. I grew up on LI, and I saw all those bands at the megaclubs with my brother when I was home from college on breaks

Woofin' "Funk" Davies? This show is going to the dogs!
  11:13pm JakeGould:

I was almost attacked by a flipped out Chihuahua on the Lower East Side 10 years ago. A few years later, I was set upon by two Weiner dogs. True stories!

What a doggone twisted show this was tonight. Thanks, EFD!
  1:52am Kristophaaa:

Red Fox Inn 5 miles South of Route 18/Route 27 intersection on your left in North Brunswick. Probably the first club booking punk in Jersey? Ramones, Dictators, Harlow, Steel Tips, the Rozz, the Swingers, who else?? Remember smaller downstairs stage with the Dark Side Of The Moon streaks on all the walls. There was like 5 rooms bands could play.

Zaffy's was in Piscataway, originally it was on Stelton Rd. But later re-opened on Plainfield Ave.
  2:03am Kristophaaa:

Royal Manor was also in North Brunswick. my friend's uncle managed the restaurant side of the place and booked some bands there. He claims he was the guy who got Metallica and Motörhead there, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Later on I recall it becoming the Metro Club. It was located off the Livingston Ave exit off Route 1 in North Brunswick.
  9:44am kristophaaa:

The building that was the Red Fox is still up!
