Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Hi Brian et al!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Hi Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Michael in Seattle:

Hello to snowy Area 716.
(Cab Voltaire is always a good way to start.)
  3:11pm Polyus:

Ach Du Kassentater!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Guido from Cologne:

Earlier Chrome could sound very much like Can in times.
  3:12pm s/bruise:

4712...very cool, Jack Ruby meets Chrome
Avatar 3:12pm Wild Neil:

Its a WET snow, snowman and snowball snow...it STICKS to windows and does NOT blow off...I want my next car to have AWD and a rear windshield wiper for this reason...
  3:13pm John Cyborg:

Chrome is Acid Punk!
Avatar 3:17pm Cheri Pi:

Benji on Mars
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Guido from Cologne:

It is "Kassettentäter".
Translates to "Cassette Offender".
legendary tape-culture comp serties (+ fanzine?) from early 80ies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Guido from Cologne:

... you made a "cash-box offender" out of it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Michael in Seattle:

Heh. We were watching the Westminster Kennel Club Show yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Guido from Cologne:

4711 of course is a pun on the Eau de Cologne trademark:
Avatar 3:24pm Lopez:

Les dudes is great
  3:25pm s/bruise:

I love the dedication to the Breakdance The Dawn label. Some really great stuff & a massive catalog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Mutant:

Fun pun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Guido from Cologne:

"Climb the Luis Trenker" of course refers to the mountaineer:
... who was an omnipresent methusalem at the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Guido from Cologne:

Hey Palookas!
  3:33pm JapTrap:

Love Les Rallizes De'nude's music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Michael in Seattle:

Thanks for the footnotes, Guido.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Guido from Cologne:

you're welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm coelacanth:

greetings Brian and others
  3:45pm geezerette:

howdy all !
Avatar 3:46pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Alejandroool:

Hullo all! finally got snow in Toronto today...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm coelacanth:

this is my jam right here!
Avatar 3:49pm c:

Willem was my favorite radio DJ when I was 9 years old.
Avatar 3:49pm Wild Neil:

Thank you for taking that horrible German song off...
  3:50pm Blockhead:

Where is Ian Dury when we need him/
  3:52pm mick:

stop hating on willem !!! there`s 3 of us sat here in germany and none of us had heard that song in about 35 years.
@ c : which station was willem on?
Avatar 3:52pm Brian Turner:

Too many members of that band
Avatar 3:55pm Cecile:

Avatar 3:56pm Jean-Jacques Burlamaqui:

Is this Fall EP out?
Avatar 3:56pm Brian Turner:

si mine just came
Avatar 3:57pm Cecile:

I missed German disco duck. That must have been epic.
Avatar 3:58pm Chris M.:

this is awesome
Avatar 3:59pm DreamCricket:

Yeah that sucked soo much.
Avatar 3:59pm c:

@mick: NDR2. I loved his selection of TOP 100 new entries in his show "Top Fofftein". But lets admit the Tarzan song was truly awful and back then even a dissapointment for a subteenager.
  4:03pm mick:

@ c : ach....wenn man es 35 jahre lang nicht gehört hat, fetzt es schon...haha. vor allem, dass es so krass nach ían dury klang fand ich eben ganz interessant.
Avatar 4:13pm Wild Neil:

@Mick-sorry, I try to be relentlessly positive on the boards. Won't happen again, will keep my own counsel on stuff I do not like. It could hurt musicians that look up comments. Forgot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm coelacanth:

Cecile - fantastically horrible! not as bad as "disco duck" from the us in 1976. even as a child it was painfully obvious how awful that was!
Avatar 4:16pm Brian Turner:

Rick Dees followed it up with Dis-Gorilla -- its on You Tube from a TV Variety show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm coelacanth:

(but then commercial radio was almost uniformly dismal at that moment.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm coelacanth:

haha! i don't think i want to know about the follow-up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm coelacanth:

Neil, i'd be surprised if the creator of that haven't since come to realise how awful it is. (f he/they didn't know it at the time.)
Avatar 4:20pm Cecile:

I remember Dis-Gorilla well. It was bad.
Avatar 4:21pm Cecile:

Neil, I think you gotta have a thick skin to perform. Don't sweat it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm coelacanth:

("creators haven't" or "creator hasn't"..either one!)
Avatar 4:23pm Wild Neil:

@Cecile-one of the DJs was advocating for that position so I wish to support the wishes of all DJs within reason. But to live in this modern world, I agree , you need a thick skin anyway...so much messed up today in the world...
Avatar 4:24pm Cecile:

I'm going to say something sucks to me if it sucks to me. I'm just not going to make it personal. I expect people to be honest about my art, so it cuts both ways.
Avatar 4:25pm Cecile:

Brian, do you have that one Bee Gees early track where they sound like the Pretty Things or STones or something?
Avatar 4:27pm Brian Turner:

I do not know that drug
Avatar 4:30pm c:

One last story about Willem: Together with Conny Planck, he founded the "Kraut Musikverlag", pioneering (maybe) the Krautrock movement. See www.sr.de... (in german).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm coelacanth:

also a consideration with respect to that dj's wishes (which was a whole different situation involving a currently active band) is that "disco duck" and anything of the sort was made solely to capitalize on the disco fad. it was a joke at the time, even to people who bought it.
Avatar 4:33pm Wild Neil:

"Gog" is my sister's nickname now thanks to her granddaughter calling her gaga.
Avatar 4:38pm MenfussMike:

rick dees was from memphis or lived there...he performed disco duck at our soccer awards night circa 1978. i was about 8
Avatar 4:39pm Brian Turner:

Avatar 4:45pm Peteski:

digging this (Ilitch), big time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Alejandroool:

I think I've "star'd" everything I heard from Superior Viaduct on 'FMU, I see a pattern emerging...
Avatar 4:48pm glenn:

there better be orange juice. i won't get through this cold without it.
Avatar 4:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

shew. Got here in time for velvet underwear.
All is well.... now.
  4:51pm s:

nice one
  4:57pm Mark R.:

Parts of this sound texturally like when Jimi burned his guitar.
  4:58pm Mark R.:

That reminded me of one time a few months ago when you (I'm pretty sure it was you) were playing something like this and I thought I'd be cute and get on the comments board and say I thought my neighbor upstairs was vacuuming, and you said, no, I cut the turntable in half with a buzz saw. Touche, sir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Michael in Seattle:

Sounds like the static in my head.
  4:59pm Mark R.:

Never try to out-smartass an FMU DJ is the lesson I learned that day. But you must have succeeded in warping my mind now because I'm actually enjoying this.
Avatar 4:59pm Brian Turner:

Twas not I
Avatar 5:00pm Brian Turner:

though the hendrix thing is applicable, it's likely a guitar if it's bruce maybe...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm common:

good zounds brian. hello.
  5:01pm Mark R.:

One of your cute little friends then. You all think you're so cute.
  5:01pm Mark R.:

It was probably Bryce.
Avatar 5:06pm Cecile:

I think Bryce's MO is more marbles in a blender.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm common:

sax and pedals so nice!
Avatar 5:10pm Cecile:

A better title would be "The Grim and Frostbitten Triumph of the Glorious Blasphemy"
Avatar 5:10pm Cheri Pi:

No, no no, Bryce is like tennis shoes in the dryer. Cecile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Which DJ is a jar of bees?
Avatar 5:11pm Cheri Pi:

There there angry kitty
  5:12pm geezerette:

saxon pedals, seeds right?
Avatar 5:12pm Cecile:

Did I tell you Ronnie James Dio came to me in a dream and told me to make an InDesign interactive presentation about his life last week?
Avatar 5:12pm glenn:

i'm down with blasphemy.
Avatar 5:13pm Cecile:

No, Pi, an angry listener once compared to Bryce to marbles in a blender. He took it as a badge of honor.
Avatar 5:13pm Cheri Pi:

Always listen to dream Dio.
Avatar 5:13pm Brian Turner:

I guess you can go rate a DJ if you want
Avatar 5:13pm Cecile:

@glenn yeah, you know me! You down with blasphemy? Every last homie!
Avatar 5:13pm Lopez:

Mostly listening on my phone today so I can't comment much but I love the exploratory route the show has taken today. Weather fitting for sure
Avatar 5:14pm Cecile:

I think those are words to live by.
I already made a fake Dio baseball card for the part about his early life - he wanted to be a baseball player at one time. I pasted his face over Lou Pinella's!
Avatar 5:15pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 5:15pm glenn:

i wonder if there was a scarlet letter "b", back in cotton mather times.
Avatar 5:16pm Cecile:

Yeah, that was for the ladies that just flirted a lot.
Avatar 5:16pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Bees in a tennis shoe?
Avatar 5:16pm Cheri Pi:

I need to see a pack of those cards on my desk, with the bubble gum, by 8 am tomorrow morning.
Avatar 5:16pm glenn:

lou pinella was rookie of the year for the seattle pilots in...1969, maybe.
Avatar 5:16pm Cecile:

where is that DJ rating link anyway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm chris:

www.ratethatdj.com not that i condone this sort of thing ;-)
Avatar 5:17pm Cecile:

I was using a Yankees Pinella card from the 70s with a slightly older Dio so it would fit in the alternate timeline.

Pi, when I get his eyes right, I will send you a .jpeg.
Avatar 5:19pm Cecile:

Chris, is there an alternate link. I've tried it several times, and it hasn't worked.
Avatar 5:20pm Cheri Pi:

Oh noe, Vanity passed away :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm common:

i heard, cheri. got sad.
Avatar 5:20pm Cecile:

Yes, I heard that. She had a rough life. But she found salvation and that made her happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm chris:

not that i know, Cecile.. the link is working for me right now, though. weird

RIP Nasty girl! :(
Avatar 5:22pm Cecile:

maybe my work blocked it.
Avatar 5:23pm glenn:

vanity. www.cbc.ca...
Avatar 5:26pm Cliff:

Good afternoon everyone, the tunes today are great for my (lack of) view out the window
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm common:

that was a sax workout, indeed.
Avatar 5:42pm glenn:

boutros boutros-ghali has died. no word on if he was a prince protege.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Michael in Seattle:

they say death comes in threes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I have a feeling Prince will outlive all his proteges and former bandmates.
Avatar 5:44pm Cliff:

I used to know someone who named his cat Boutros Boutros Boutros Ghali (not a typo)
  5:45pm s/bruise:

not if yr the one dying
Avatar 5:46pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Jeezus that sounds familiar. Was that cat based in DC?
  5:47pm Mark R.:

I'm just picturing some shitkicker ordering an album called "Country Music" online and then won't he be in for a big surprise?
  5:49pm Mark R.:

Like when Sugar called that one album "File Under Easy Listening" and a lot of record stores DID. I guess it really hurt sales of what was actually a pretty good album.
Avatar 5:49pm Cliff:

Was his owner's name Luke and did he go to American Univ.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm chris:

love, love, love this Vision Fortune!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Michael in Seattle:

all tomorrow's parties
Avatar 5:51pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Mekano = ultimate flashback to age 17. Now we just need some Psychodrama & the hallucination will be complete.
Avatar 5:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Cliff: Not that I know of; something about the triple Boutros triggered something... false memory syndrome(?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Michael in Seattle:

Who could forget a name like Surgical Penis Klinik ...?
Avatar 5:55pm Cliff:

Rev. Turnip Druid, maybe you used to know someone with the same sense of humor....or maybe there's something in the water in DC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm coelacanth:

Thanks Brian!
Avatar 5:58pm Cliff:

Don't imagine there were too many cat owners in Omaha in the early 90's who would have been chatting about Boutros Boutros-Ghali, or even known his name :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm chris:

thanks, BT!
Avatar 5:59pm Cliff:

Thank you Brian
