I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Flash checking in! Hi Mayuko
Avatar 5:47pm Mayuko:

Hello, Dave B, Ken, and Mr. Flash Strap! Glad to have you all tuned in! sorry for being not catching up with the comments today. But it'll be a long night tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

A few years ago, the WFMU schedule went 8-11 PM, 11 PM-2 AM and then 2-6 AM. That would be a tough time for a four-hour show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Sam Segal:

Evening, Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Gary:

I love this
Avatar 6:06pm Mayuko:

Ken, yah I've heard about that! That must have been tough esp if it's over night!

Killer set!!
Avatar 6:34pm Mayuko:

thanks james! this YPY stuff is so so good. From Osaka Japan - he's "da bomb"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm listener james from westwood:

We should hook HAL from this track up to some of those printers from earlier; he wouldn't feel so lonely.
Avatar 6:46pm Mayuko:

I'm pretty much a man machine DJ so we can be all happy together, with printers too.

Wow.. two more hours! Cool..
What you were saying about 日本人Japanese people.. I remember figure skater Yuka Satô saying that she felt less Japanese after spending so much time away from home. A friend said something similar. I want to go to Japan to escape this culture 笑

Previous piece sounded like a collage piece, but this is just cd player skipping and all. Thank you for tuning in, glenn, coelacanth, david! DOUG!!!

Avatar 7:54pm Mayuko:

haha yah! Saw Danne D at Bellhouse this past Saturday and he told me Dave Hill would not be in tonight. Speaking of Cleveland. I should ask Dave, the man who represents Cleveland, about Pere Ubu.

Senator Marco Rubio repeated some catch phrases in a recent debate and people are calling him Mr. Roboto now. This makes me wonder: Did "Mr. Roboto" from Styx become popular in Japan? The song is in English, but they used some Japanese phrases in it.

The Necros were from Ohio, but they were associated with the Detroit scene
  8:37pm ディビッド:

OK there are four Dave/David's
in here now! @-@
Avatar 8:40pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, Dave in Vermont - sorry for my late response - that was a particular type of folk music from Japan. Def a similar feeling of melancholy though to biwa things. Thank you for tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm coelacanth:

i wont tell my "dave" story again, but i consider myself an apparent, and therefor "honorary" dave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm Dave in Vermont:

I keep forgetting about your show but I am always happy when I catch you or remember to listener to an archive. I found out about your show because I saw you as listen, I think on Bryce's show, and followed your profile and found out you had a show and that you designed my new water bottle. Thanks.

Dave B, that was veena from
southern India, not oud. ;)
Avatar 8:50pm Dave B:

It's kinda like George Foreman naming all his kids George.

Or that scene in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" - Nick, Nick, Nick, Nick, Nick... and I am Gus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm coelacanth:

if i'd said that, it would've been the nerdiest thing i've said in hours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm coelacanth:

NEVER MIND! that was meant for the other comment board!
(i'm listening to an interview as i listen to this show!)
Avatar 8:52pm Dave B:

ディビッド - I was going by the title of the disk.

And Oud is a fun word to say, like moist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Doing a fill-in, hosting a show, appearing on another show and now doing a four-hour show. You're crossing off your bucket list, Mayuko! Maybe a Hoof 'n' Mouth performance is next? Have a good break.
  8:54pm david:

Ah! That was a refreshing four hours!
Avatar 8:54pm Dave B:

See you soon Mayuko and Vertigonians.

Thanks to playing it at your show,I ordered 青春時代の登川誠仁 CD.
Avatar 10:09pm Mayuko:

oh wow! I'm so happy you're getting that Okinawa stuff, zm, that CD is so good I love it. thanks for checking out this show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm fred:

I only listened to the first half, I'm saving the second for next week. I can't wait, "Okinawa stuff" sounds like something I'll enjoy a lot.
Talk about freeform: from an early 20th century performer (Vaughn DeLeath) to someone I've met (Él-g) in a few minutes
I remember a Front 242 video that involved eggs. Was it called egghead or did I make that up? I think that was a pun: "Front 2-4-2" could sound in French like "egg forehead egg skull", and calling them "front d'oeufs crane d'oeufs" was indeed a common pun about them in the late 80's
Avatar 12:24am Mayuko:

ha! I think you're talking about the Headhunter video? it's amazing to learn all these linguistic play all these musicians play (often thanks to you!) I guess it is a good idea after all for me to provide some contexts about Japanese bands too when I can, cos it is indeed interesting to find out those things in addition to listening to music itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm fred:

That's the one. Thanks again for playing great music from Okinawa. But wait, did you mention urtyn duu? I'm a huge fan of that style. I knew about relatives in Tibet but that Hokkaido variant is new to me. That's great!
Gombodorj Byambajargal is my favorite singer, I'll send you a couple of her solo tracks, she has a lot of stuff on YouTube, but most features dubious arrangements
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm fred:

Here's a good one: youtu.be...
Avatar 10:14pm Mayuko:

Thank you always for the info, fred! Yah I thought it was fascinating to learn from the lecture I was listening to that Oiwake (the Japanese folk songs that porters with horses would sing) has lots in common with urtyn duu: that they have very similar pentatonic scales, and many songs about horse. I would like to learn more and play more oiwake stuff in future shows, I think you'll enjoy them too.
