Isn't Uther Pendragon King Arthur's dad? Was that song recorded by King Arthur's dad?

This was the first Airplane/Starship album I bought...used to play the hell out of this song. Not sure if it was because it was so good or most of the rest of the album was so bad.

Ohhh Todd, I love this whole record! Ok, maybe the Baby Tree gets a little ripe...

so far so good on the new Cale! Yeah, we've all been very patient, haven't we?

new old Cale stuff, technically.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Wait, how did I not know that Ghost Dog was shot in JC? I gotta rewatch that immediately.
Avatar 3:53pm BriJet:

Wow, I like John Cale's NPR guest dj playlist! Cool!
Avatar 3:53pm TDK60:

That Jefferson S. album is more like a Jefferson Airplane album than a Starship album. Not to bore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...just read J.Depp re Jarmusch: 'He's pure. That's a rare beast in this town. He's Practically Christlike.'

Jarmusch--he did an excellent cameo on The Simpsons some years ago. Almost as great as Gore Vidal's!
Avatar 4:02pm Cecile:

but was it as good as Jasper Johns'?

i am digging this new (old?) Cale myself
also these WHALES! ethereal but not . . . weightless? gossamer?
@ Polyus -- my cats are *enjoying* the whales!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Webhamster Henry:

This is reminding me of the Weddell seals on my old Antarctica record, although it could also just be a squeaky swing set run through some effects. This is excellent, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Cecile--do you mean Simpsons cameo? Gore's was easily the highlight of that Wordloaf episode, but Jasper Johns and the other authors are easily up there with Jarmuschs appearance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Greg from ZONE 5:

LOVE this. One of the Saturday dudes played it a few weeks ago.
Avatar 4:11pm Chris from DC:

That is kind of taking the edge off the afternoon, yes. Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Summer and Michael:

This soloing of Mike Bloomfield's guitar track is great, Scott! Thank you! And fantastic show, as always.
Avatar 4:11pm Cecile:

yes, I do, Matt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm steve:

as a non-musician, its so interesting how totally different a guitar part can sound taken out of a song. there's entire sections of this i've never been conscious of.
Avatar 4:12pm Cecile:

it's interesting to hear how he's playing around the melody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Webhamster Henry:

Nice without harmonica!

@Cheyenne, give me sick walrus please! I've already got a wheezing baby dinosaur
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's really just going up & down the neck in (mostly) marked fret intervals - sometime Major & sometimes Minor. & - it's no less than some of what a whole Culture has been based on...

Back to work now. Enjoy the show and the snow, everyone!

any and all -- cannot tell you how great Donny McCaslin is live, with anyone i've seen/heard him with. nice he got swept up in this
Avatar 4:26pm Cecile:

Avatar 4:29pm Cecile:

I'm wasn't the hugest fan before he passed, even though he wrote some of my favorite songs, but I gotta say that Blackstar is one of the best pop/rock albums I've heard in years
Avatar 4:31pm V Priceless:

abowie, Scott, abowie
Avatar 4:31pm TDK60:

Still moved about David B. Got to go by his apt. in Soho to see the memorial stuff. Like the little bass solo in this song.
Avatar 4:31pm Cecile:

"I'm going through changes" Black Sabbath.
Avatar 4:37pm slugluv1313:

no, Scott you are definitely not alone!
i STILL get so choked up, i am not "adjusting" to a world without David Bowie
and YES! i just watched that clip, AMAZING version of "Heroes"! (complete with BOWIE using a bottle cap taped to the bottom of his shoe for percussion!) -- and YES, Ms. Dorsey is freakin' awesome -- first time i ever heard/saw her was as part of the "1, 2, 3 Soleils" band
Avatar 4:39pm TDK60:

Slugluv: Oh, the '1 2 3 Soleils' concert! A great one. Rai.
Avatar 4:41pm Cecile:

oh! this is so good.
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

Scott, if you feel the urge, I'd love to hear either the "Steve Reich" remix of Bowie's Love is Lost, or the album version from The Next Day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Warren Zevon did 'My Ride's Here' - can you think of another Rocker who's done work about their terminal illness like this? What a generous, brave thing for Bowie to do - & so brilliantly.
Avatar 4:50pm slugluv1313:

@ Cecile -- that remix is INCREDIBLE!
@ TDK60 -- YES! love those guys, esp. Rachid Taha -- and that opening instrumental STILL gives me goosebumps!
Avatar 4:53pm Cecile:

I know there was a Skip Spence song originally commissioned for the X-files movie that ended up on More Oar, the tribute album. It's a hidden track. It's definitely a final will and testament kind of song.

Avatar 5:13pm Cecile:

i never go to big stadium shows, but i saw Maiden at the PNC Center a few years ago and it was really awesome and memorable.

the music was great but pregaming with the 80s metalheads in the parking lot was even better.
