A little eye-opener for you snowbirds.

Who is the DJ who will risk his neck for his brother man? MARK! R-r-r-r-right on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15am pacific standard simon:

Aint no snow on the left coast, 'ceptin' you have a mountain view. Nothing but rain, rain, rain.
Avatar 3:17am Jeff:

Another disk-jockeying hero steps up!
Avatar 3:19am coelacanth:

greetings Mark and others
...i'm 70-80 mi. north of you and got no precipitation, but extreme winds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20am pacific standard simon:

Dude, we're all in the high school gym together, waiting out the disaster with total strangers.
Avatar 3:21am JakeGould:

@PSS: If you clean up the girl with dandruff hair you will be a putz.
Avatar 3:21am JakeGould:

Also, is there enough snow out there to make WFMU DJ snowmen/women?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am pacific standard simon:

You mysticate me, JakeGould.
Avatar 3:23am coelacanth:

if not you could do what they did in "to kill a mockingbird".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25am pacific standard simon:

I should read that. After I reread the complete works of Ray Bradbury.
  3:26am Mark R.:

There's enough snow to build a whole city of men, women, children, dogs and buildings.
  3:26am Mark R.:

Newark Airport recorded 25.7 inches as of 7 pm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am pacific standard simon:

I'd build a snow woman, but my ex would sue.
Avatar 3:28am coelacanth:

they should build a snow-airplane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31am pacific standard simon:

This is the perfect twin rhythm guitar valentine.
Avatar 3:31am coelacanth:

simon i took a week off from a much more challenging book to read "mockingbird". (actually i think it took 4 reading nights)
it's a fast read and thoroughly worth it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am pacific standard simon:

@coelacanth -- I somehow managed to miss it in high school, although I could see other kids carrying it around. That, and The Invisible Man (Ralph Ellison).
Avatar 3:36am coelacanth:

the computer often underlines words as misspelled, even though they are not. i just found another one. "aeroplane",which "airplane" is a bastardization of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39am pacific standard simon:

My Kindle responds to words that have different British and USA spellings by marking them both as misspelled. It wants you to pick one as the correct spelling.
Avatar 3:40am JakeGould:

I want to build snowmen of the guys who just hang outside of the newsstand.
Avatar 3:42am coelacanth:

hmm. never read the invisible man. i should do that,no?

...i never read "mockingbird" until last year, but in my youth our family sat around the tv once a year when it came around. it was interesting reading it 4 decades later. many of the scenes and characters i remembered immediately; but i never did understand the story as a child.
...it's really a masterpiece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43am pacific standard simon:

"Are you building a snowman outa me? Huh? Betta not!"
Avatar 3:45am coelacanth:

build a snow-bodega with snow bodega-dwellers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46am pacific standard simon:

I'm sticking with the Ray Bradbury until I get it done. Should take most of this year.
Avatar 3:51am coelacanth:

i started to read my sister's copy of "the illustrated man", but it fell to pieces by the 6th page or so and i haven't tried to get another. i did like martian chronicles.
"dandelion wine" didn't grab me, but i may try again.
Avatar 4:02am coelacanth:

on a mac (at least an ancient one) hold "alt/option" and hit "u" then the letter you want the umlaut over. (arvo pärt)

'night y'all.

Loving the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57am Stanley:

Mark. I'm listening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am pacific standard simon:

Sorry, man, I fell asleep with the headphones on.
  5:00am Neville in London/UK:

great tunes.listening to the show with breakfast.
  5:01am Mark R.:

Thank you. I thought I had bored you all to death. I'm a little sleep-deprived and alternating between angry smashing of things and weeping jags. But I'm having a good time overall. And how's your day/night going so far?
  5:01am b k:

The Smashcords version of "Hello There" is the weirdest (and best) Cheap Trick cover I have heard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02am pacific standard simon:

You Should Have Switches (And Coal For Christmas)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am pacific standard simon:

Just got off work 4 hours ago. Hit the bar for a couple of hours. Here we are.
  5:13am Mark R.:

Anybody remember this one? You have to be just old enough and weird enough.
  5:15am Mark R.:

FYI I'm sticking with the wolves every mic break from here on out. Them wolves were my only friends back when I was on hard times, now that life is looking up, what kind of a person would just abandon them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am pacific standard simon:

A favorite J. Airplane track. That's Jerry Garcia on the lead riff, BTW.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33am pacific standard simon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35am pacific standard simon:

I had a cassette of this record. No crackles.
  5:41am Mark R.:

That little Spanish riff is the whole reason I wanted to play this version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42am pacific standard simon:

Mitch Mitchell is one of my favorite drummers ever. If you listen to these things enough times, you can tune out Hendrix and Redding entirely.
Avatar 5:42am groucho:

10.41am in England, I wake up to news of snow on your east coast, I have a few friends there but my first action was to check WFMU's okay.

I'm glad you're okay
  5:43am Mark R.:

Me too. I was disappointed he never did much afterward. My older brother saw Randy Hansen, the Hendrix imitator, in the 80s, and was shocked to see Mitch playing drums with him. There could have been so much more to Mitch than his ties to someone who died in 1970.
  5:44am Mark R.:

Yes, we're OK. We've had a lot of folks pulling marathon shifts and stuff, but we kept kickin' out the jams for ya...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49am pacific standard simon:

I guess Mitch was deeply involved with pulling together the tracks that would have been on the album that Hendrix was working on at the time of his death, so for that I am grateful.
  5:54am Mark R.:

Yeah, "Cry of Love" was actually one of my favorites. I'm not saying he should have abandoned the Hendrix legacy. He was possibly the greatest musician who ever lived. I just wish Mitch had gotten on with the rest of his life and made music with some other people. It's like a beautiful young woman whose husband is killed and she never remarries. Imagine a fusion band with Mitch and Stanley Clarke and a great guitar player and keyboard player, for example.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58am pacific standard simon:

"An idiophone is any musical instrument that creates sound primarily by the instrument as a whole vibrating—without the use of strings or membranes"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02am pacific standard simon:

If I had been there, I would have made the chili -- it's what I do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08am pacific standard simon:

"Most percussion instruments that are not drums are idiophones."
  6:10am Mark R.:

Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19am pacific standard simon:

Keith Levene can say this is about Lou Reed, but when the song started, I thought it was Sir Doug.
Avatar 6:23am fred:

Good morning Mark and listeners
  6:25am Mark R.:

Morning Fred--thanks for tuning in. Things are about to take a turn for the quieter and more contemplative.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am pacific standard simon:

A thumb piano is an idiophone. So is a jaw harp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am pacific standard simon:

I can barely focus on the keyboard now, so I'm calling it a night. Good luck, Mark R.
  6:37am Mark R.:

Thanks for hanging with us so late, Simon.
Avatar 6:48am fred:

So you're on the air until another DJ makes it to the station?
  6:50am Mark R.:

I'm on until 9. Either Jeff Sarge will be here then or we have a replacement standing by, in the building. Actually, laying by. He snores.
Avatar 6:54am fred:

That would make for an unusual bed music (the snoring)
  7:10am Mark R.:

I thought this symphony crap might class the joint up a little. I dunno, wattaya think?
  7:11am Nate K:

Go Mark, go.
  7:13am Mark R.:

You know, for the ladies.
  7:13am Mark R.:

The ladies like this classy stuff.
  7:13am Mark R.:

Me, I like stuff with more of a beat but what the hell...
Avatar 7:16am fred:

YMMV, the ones I know tend to play noise or write contemporary classical music
  7:18am Mark R.:

I'm just messing with you, I love this album.
Avatar 7:31am coelacanth:

hello again Mark i've been awake most of this time but i turned you off when you got wild earlier...but i've given up trying to sleep now and been listening for a while again.
  7:33am Mark R.:

Glad you came back--I think you'll find the rest of the show more to your liking. I'm not feeling that wild any more.
  7:38am Mark R.:

Maybe a little weird, but not that wild.
Avatar 7:41am fred:

For some reason that Jacob Garchik track reminded of Jen Shyu. I'll be off figuring out what she's up to for a short while...
Avatar 7:47am coelacanth:

i'm all for wild -and weird. in fact both are more my usual...just not when i'm trying to get to sleep!
- i may try again before you're through.
Avatar 7:56am Jay/London:

6 hours!! !! Mark you are a STAR
  7:58am Mark R.:

That's nice of you to say. A lot of people pulled long duty Saturday/Sunday. Todd-o-Phonic Todd pulled two shifts separated by several hours. I think that's even harder. Good think everybody around here digs music so much!
Avatar 7:59am DonJuanTijuana:

Yeah but you were on there too yesterday. Kudos to you my man!
  7:59am Mark R.:

thing, not think. I hate when I spot my typo after it posts!
Avatar 7:59am fred:

Luc Ferrari was great. His influence seems to freeze too many people; that puzzles me
  8:00am Mark R.:

Sleep deprivation--that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
Avatar 8:01am Jay/London:

yes wfmu pulls all the stops out to give us the best station. NOTHING stops you .. thanks for the music :)
  8:03am Mark R.:

It's actually a beautiful morning in NJ/NY. The air is so crisp and clear, the streets have been (mostly) plowed, and it's soooo quiet.
Avatar 8:11am coelacanth:

i don't mind the crackling. in fact i like it.
Avatar 8:11am dale:

listening at 90.1 - i don't hear any crackle to speak of.
  8:12am Mark R.:

Very well then, Jarrett marches on!
  8:12am Will:

One pro-crackle vote here! Especially if it's the Koln Concert. Doesn't sound as bad as you might think, Mark.
  8:13am Mark R.:

I had headphones on, listening loud. It magnifies every flaw. Over the speakers it's a little more manageable.
  8:14am Mark R.:

A well-loved album--like a teddy bear whose fur has been hugged off, missing an eye. This is my wife's album, actually. It pays to marry a girl with good taste in music. I would have bought this album, anyway. Think how much Schlitz I was able to buy with that $8.99.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20am Wynford Eagle:

we love the crackles - sounds great streaming it (32k) here in theUK
Avatar 8:26am fred:

Hearing Keith Jarrett always reminds me of David Foster Wallace's short story
Avatar 8:28am coelacanth:

i'm off again.
Thanks again Mark.
  8:29am Mark R.:

Thanks for listening! Take care.
  8:31am KP:

Great show. Play all night!
  8:32am Mark R.:

Yes, but it's morning! Change is good, too. New DJ at 9 EST. Who will it be? Jeff Sarge, or our Mystery DJ?! Stay tuned...
  8:32am KP:

Ooh, getting a perfect delay between my iPhone and digital radio
  8:34am Will:

Sure does make sense to marry a woman with good taste in music. I had no albums by Prince or Gino Vannelli before I grabbed my girl!
Avatar 8:40am groucho:

it's been a great Sunday morning into afternoon's listening here in England. Stay safe everyone.
  8:44am Mark R.:

No crackle on this one on accounta it's a CD, y'see...
  8:55am Artie K:

Amazing music all morning Mark. Great job.
Avatar 8:58am fred:

Thanks Mark! Now be careful and don't slip on your way home
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am Wynford Eagle:

thanks for making the show and getting through the snow. Take care going home...
