You're Everything That I'm Not - Translator
Avatar 10:32pm JakeGould:

@coelacanth: The way I describe it is I like the framework WFMU has created but to say I like each thing hung in that framework is nutty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm coelacanth:

("everyWHERE that i'm not" !)
Avatar 10:36pm Wm.:

Oh goodness, Translator! I used to really like them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm coelacanth:

yes Jake. i don't think it's possible to like everything on wfmu...not for thinking people anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm coelacanth:

i really liked that song; but i can't say i remember the rest of the album.
  10:43pm mac:

#canada #translator
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Irene Trudel:

I used to LOVE Translator (still do). Been meaning to play some of their music for a couple of weeks and didn't get around to it. I've discovered lead singer Steve Barton has some solo material I've overlooked. Maybe next week.
  10:53pm KP:

Happy Christmas week, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Irene Trudel:

And Happy Belated Birthday to you, KP.
  10:55pm KP:

Thanks!

The missus just saw Laurie w/ some of the guys from Oneida. I wish I had the funds to have had gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm coelacanth:

ngh that's got to be amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Irene Trudel:

Wow, ngh! I love how Laurie keeps expanding her boundaries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm coelacanth:

wow -Rickie Lee's voice reminds me of Melanie Safka here.
...'didn't see that coming!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Irene Trudel:

I never realized that before, coelacanth, but Rickie really does sound like Melanie on this one at least.
  11:16pm herb.nyc:

Joyeaux 2016 a tout!
Avatar 11:24pm northguineahills:

I forgot to ask for some her video footage, but now she's out of the country, so, now I have to wait until she gets back after new years. She said it was mostly a percussive affair w/ Laurie on her electric violin and interjecting w/ her monologues.
Avatar 11:26pm northguineahills:

I've told Kurt this before, but a decade ago, I was at my friends' electro-acoustic improv party at the bar, and Laurie sat next to me. We had a normal conversation and about music etc. I was surprised I didn't squee, as just a few weeks beforehand, I found her 'United States Live" box set on vinyl at a second hand shop for relatively cheap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Irene Trudel:

That's a great story, ngh! I've met Laurie a few times and am always surprised at how normal and unassuming she is. Very sweet too.
Avatar 11:47pm JakeGould:

From all I hear, Laurie Anderson is still a true NYC-artist. Meaning she knows who she is, but she is approachable and a general human to those she interacts with. A friend has a pic of Lou Reed a few years before he passed away where he was waiting to pick up Chinese take-out on his own from a local place… I mean he could have had that delivered… But there he is. I think that is what I miss in modern NYC; the new celebs in the neighborhoods truly live in Ivory/glass towers. Very little pragmatism in 2015 NYC celeb culture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Irene Trudel:

Happy New Year everybody!
Avatar 11:58pm JakeGould:

Goodnight Irene! See/hear you next year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm coelacanth:

Thank you Irene 'twas beautiful.
ciao peeps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

  11:59pm Andy Brown:

Avatar 10:17am Van in DC:

Avatar 9:08am Van in DC:

Finally catching up!! And right off the bat, I was already immediately thinking SANDY! Only to be pleasantly fooled (again) by the lovely voice of Sharron :)
Avatar 9:15am Van in DC:
