Options Brian Turner: Playlist from December 22, 2015 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Enjoying this whole show beginning.
  3:13pm Dean:

I had to wait for the USC marching band to cross the street a few weeks ago on my way to work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Marcel M:

Yo yo.
Avatar 3:23pm singing serpent glen:

great Wire cover
Avatar 3:26pm Cecile:

Dean, we used to live down from the Michigan Wolverines' marching band. You could always tell when it was game days - lots of practices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Uncle Michael:

The EKG is beeping...tell me that it's Chairman Mo.
Avatar 3:31pm Chris from DC:

Wow, this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm chris:

yes, i'll second that, Chris
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Uncle Michael:

Fourth! Love.

  3:47pm Mark R:

Hey I know what you're talking about Cecile. Every weekday the U of M band would practice, it was really cool.
Avatar 3:50pm PKNY:

Will a new version of "History of Punk on the LES" be made to note the opening of the CBGB restaurant in Newark Airport?
  3:50pm Dean:

I posted this on Tony Coulter's reprise of a Tape Hiss today, but it seems fitting right now here, too: http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/eats/rock-club-cbgb-reopening-restaurant-newark-airport-article-1.2473259
  3:51pm Dean:

Avatar 3:51pm PKNY:

@Dean - under the wire!
  3:52pm Dean:

Arguably, punk began in 1737, when Rebel scored a depiction of chaos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnlaCenlNHk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Marcel M:

Degradation and boredom... who needs anything else?
Avatar 3:54pm Cecile:

uh. I didn't know that CBGB's was so noted for its food.

This really needs the tattered-page coloring book flip-thru accompaniment
Avatar 3:56pm Jeff:

I've loved this Jeffrey Lewis piece ever since i first heard it.
  3:57pm lloyd michigan:

Where is that version of Personality Crisis from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Marcel M:

@Lloyd: I believe its the creators doing all the versions of the songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Marcel M:

i.e. Jeffery Lewis, his brother and their friend Tyler.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Last week's Aerial View pod(iatry)cast from Chris T explored CBGB. www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 4:01pm Cecile:

this song is already better than 90% of anything the Runaways did.
  4:06pm Dean:

Hmmm, I heard them live when they opened for Cheap Trick in late 1978 at UC Irvine. But I don't think that was the New Years Eve show I heard, probably the next year, from Cheap Trick in Long Beach. The bigger the venue, the better Cheap Trick got, remarkably.
Avatar 4:08pm Cecile:

that record was legendary. But you could never find it anywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Marcel M:

This Stickmen With Rayguns is sick.
Avatar 4:10pm Brian Turner:

Hey stick around for 5pm. Special treat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm common:

agreed, marcel.
Avatar 4:11pm Cheri Pi:

Just in time me for the last bar of Satan baby!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Marcel M:

Yo Common!

I managed to retreat early from work today cuz I fucked my back up. I am curing it with whiskey.
  4:12pm lloyd michigan:

Thanks @marcel. Must be from a CD of NYD demos.
  4:12pm Daddio:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Marcel M:

Dang, Brendan, it does sound like that dental drill thing.
  4:21pm Dean:

Which is why I *love* going to my dentist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Marcel M:

Yeah... no other drill can get that sweet dental tone...
  4:23pm luke:

All primed for the war on xmas?
  4:24pm Brendan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Marcel M:

I've bought the most gifts. So I think I've killed it. Is that how it works?
Avatar 4:27pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

  4:28pm Dean:

Not being a NWW fan, I wonder: Is the first word a noun or a verb?
Avatar 4:29pm northguineahills:

I've never thought of that, Dean, good question!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Marcel M:

Me either Dean... you just blew my mind.
Avatar 4:30pm Cecile:

noun for sure.
  4:31pm Dean:

That's how I have always tended to read it: (a) nurse with (a) wound. But if irony is intended, it works better as an imperative.
  4:35pm Brendan:

Worse with noun
  4:36pm Brendan:

  4:36pm Dean:

That is damn funny, Brendan.
  4:37pm smallybiggs:

Yea, that's the type of music I need right thurrr
Avatar 4:41pm Cecile:

is this the Happy Apple from Minneapolis?
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

yes, it is. Eric Fratzke also plays in the massively doomy prog-instrumental band Zebulon Pike.
Avatar 4:42pm Cecile:

He's the bass player for Happy Apple.
  4:42pm Dean:

Recently picked up a 7CD set of Vandermark's trio 2009-2011. Working my way through. So far, so very very good.
Avatar 4:43pm northguineahills:

That sounds awesome, Dean!
  4:43pm John Dough:

  5:03pm Dean:

Avatar 5:07pm Cecile:

  5:10pm luke:

I wonder if The Fall would do a benefit for war on xmas.
Avatar 5:11pm Cecile:

They might. They don't believe in Christmas for junkies.
Avatar 5:17pm Cheri Pi:

What she said, CECILE
Avatar 5:18pm Cecile:

Avatar 5:23pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm chris:

am i crazy, or are they are losing their vitamin c?
Avatar 5:26pm Cecile:

It is a (fire)water-soluble vitamin. And yeah, Mark E. is a big Can fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm common:

the fall just turned off the power on my block for a bit. pretty punk.
Avatar 5:26pm Brian Turner:
