Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Thanks for listening. I enjoyed putting this one together. It's nice when I can find willing interview participants with widely varying political views and lifestyle pursuances. No one needs preaching to the choir. Many times people will ask me why I didn't confront someone more vigorously during an interview, when the interview subject says something inflammatory or offensive. I'm probably too meek, to be honest. I'd rather try to establish a friendly back and forth, encouraging a reelaxed conversation for everyone involved, including me. Anyway ... too much explanation.

About this week's music. Stray Dog. Remembered that song from high school. An old cut-out LP I found uptown, no doubt. I like the compressed sound of it. Kind of unique. I like hard rock.

Niagara. I Googled "lost bands of the 70's" and one of the names that came up was Niagara, so I looked into it and found their self-titled debut LP. All mostly drumming based songs. I liked it. Absolluttenen Nollapiste. Guess I was just fishing around in itunes and looked up Finnish pop out of curiousity. Their name came up. I really like it. Kind of Floyd-y. Burst - Always like to throw in some banshee screamo thing. Their from Sweden. It was between them and Demigod and I chose Burst because Demigod was so dark I just couldn't hang. Neil Ardley - Another one from the forgotten 70's Google search. A british jazz cat. I super dig his scene. How could you ever top the album name, Kaleidescope of Rainbows? You couldn't. Styx - Crystal Ball. I like it. I almost played a recently recorded Dennis DeYoung version, but I didn't. He sings it differently than Tommy Shaw. That Styxian Chorus, holy cow! Crystal ... Baaallllll!! Love that stuff. Prime Heartland PompRok. Flo and Eddie - Keep It Warm. Wow! I love it. Just stumbled across it. So Beach Boy and funny and well-done. Love Kaylan and Volman's vocal blend. Stone Temple Pilots - Sad about Scott Weiland. Wish he could have stayed around. Listen to him sing ... and always remember ... CPnyc1215-99

Just continuing my explanation, the two likeliest hearings I had of that lyric were, "Are they reeling in the east?" & "Are they really in the yeast?"
  6:12pm Marcel M:

I took a photo of a Trump sticker next to an Obama sucks sticker on some guys car the other day and he called me a dirty hipster. I liked it.

  6:22pm P-90:

This lady who likes Trump's "honesty": she sounds more honest than he does! There are "good" people who like the guy. Gotta deal with that..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm redkayak:

@Clay..... I've been paddling as fast as I can :)
Avatar 6:23pm dale:

i can't believe a racist blowhard like trump has gotten this far. just goes to show how repugnant the other republicans are.

Avatar 6:23pm david_:

Jammin with the tune on the radio. That was how I learned to play back in the day. Brings me back. Love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm coelacanth:

trump's not honest at all. he says what he thinks but he has no viable plans to make his desires succeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Carmichael:

Dale, it goes to show how stupid many Americans are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm coelacanth:

(...i do agree with him on this though.)

@dale ~ it's name recognition & loud noises. really.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm redkayak:

@Carmichael You may be right about that.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Carmichael:

This should be Trump's walk-on song.
  6:29pm Dean:

There's a decent double IPA out of CA called Rampage.
  6:29pm P-90:

@Dean: see if "Eileen's Special Cheesecake" ca get it there.
Can't go wrong.
  6:29pm A.T.F.:

The only bad thing up here is the herion problem
  6:29pm Linda Lee:

Trump is this year's Palin .. bright & shiny to entertain the dummies .. but just not election material & prtobably not that interested either.. i think he's addicted to the limelight & this is the biggest stage going. he won't be elected.
  6:29pm Marcel M:

Thank god. If was into him I would loose it.
Avatar 6:30pm V Priceless:

@ Dean: if you have time, why not bake your own? Pretty easy, actually...
Avatar 6:30pm dale:

clay, you'll need to learn how to ski and shoot a rifle like those baddies in james bond movies.
Avatar 6:30pm Clay Pigeon:

Yes, ATF. Too much poverty and no jobs.
Avatar 6:31pm dale:

i second the bake your own cheesecake.
Avatar 6:31pm Clay Pigeon:

Ha ha, Dale. I stay on the blues.
  6:31pm Linda Lee:

Clay, did you ask anyone about Trump's campaign being listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center?
Avatar 6:32pm david_:

WFMU for President.
  6:32pm Dean:

Thanks, P-90. I'd heard of Eileen's, and the cheesecakes look great, but even considering S&H are included, the $ exceeds the budget.

I have made a cheesecake once or twice, but I will be traveling on the holidays, and I won't have time or space to do the baking.
Avatar 6:33pm V Priceless:

"I am not an animal...."
Avatar 6:33pm Clay Pigeon:

I didn't Linda. I wasn't going for confrontation. Just talking to people. :>)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm coelacanth:

how is it surprising? this started with reagan and has only been downhill since then. people think "reality" tv shows are not scripted! of course they're going to fall for the bullshit.
  6:34pm P-90:

@Dean: If Junior's is affordable, maybe try the website later at night, when servers are less overrun by traffic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Ken From Hyde Park:

www.ballotpedia.org... The Iowa Caucus is Feb. 1 and then the New Hampshire Primary on Feb. 9. So that's barely seven weeks away.
  6:35pm Linda Lee:

i understand, Clay. you're a gentleman. me, i would like to know what folks would think about that. ..
  6:36pm Dean:

I posted a query. The response didn't seem to be a result of traffic, but of course what seems to be the case isn't always what is the case on the web...
Avatar 6:36pm V Priceless:

@ Dean: Larry and David? Free shipping - about $ 25 - got good reviews...www.harryanddavid.com...
  6:36pm A.T.F.:

Tele good idea
Avatar 6:36pm Clay Pigeon:

It'll all come out in the wash, Linda.
  6:37pm Dean:

Now that's weird, @VP. I was flipping through an H&D catalog a couple of days ago, but didn't catch this. Thanks.
  6:37pm Linda Lee:

@Clay Pigeon ~ you bet! :-)
Avatar 6:37pm dale:

i just googled jrs cheesecake and you can order one through qvc's website too and the link works fine. not that you want to, but if you HAVE to.....
Avatar 6:38pm V Priceless:

haha..I typed Larry and David by mistake
  6:38pm Dean:

Now I see why I didn't pay heed to the H&D cheesecakes: many of them are marked Cheesecake Factory, which I don't want. But the one you ID'd is H&D's own.

That's a workaround, dale! Thanks.
  6:38pm Sally:

Hi Clay Pigeon! The TNP all night long. I love how you say that. We are TNP fans in my house.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm melinda:

  6:42pm Dean:

@Carm: Black Diamond in Concord, CA: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/978/57539/?ba=femALEist Concord also has Ale Industries, a good brewery. My favorite lately has been Knee Deep's Simtra, but it's a pricey triple IPA.
  6:43pm P-90:

@Dean: I think you will be much happier with something from Junior's than with anything from Harry and David. Or Larry and David. Actually, Larry David should market a cheesecake...
Avatar 6:43pm david_:

"Shtyksh" - Carol Channing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Carmichael:

Knee Deep is crazy about the mega IPAs. They had a quad IPA about a year ago.

Rubicon has the Hopsauce 2x IPA that's pretty decent.
  6:44pm Dean:

Knee Deep is in Auburn, NE of Sacramento.

@P-90: Could be. Maybe if Harry, Larry & David, Jr., opened a cheesecake shop...
Avatar 6:44pm Clay Pigeon:

Good one, David! ha!
  6:44pm Linda Lee:

oh poop, Tony.
  6:44pm Marcel M:

Avatar 6:46pm david_:

"Down the skids." I have to say that more often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

We could probably round up enough people to vote "Dirty Clown" to be the Trump theme song. As long as the artist would agree to that.
  6:46pm Marcel M:

OK he's coming around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Carmichael:

People with butterfly nets are chasing this guy.
  6:47pm Dean:

I live near a handful of breweries: Drake's, 21st Amendment, Fieldwork, Rare Barrel, not too far a drive from Russian River, but I just don't get out to them. For better or worse.
  6:47pm Linda Lee:

fact is, people get absolutely no decent information on a day-to-day basis .. they get crap. what do you expect?
  6:48pm Marcel M:

  6:49pm Linda Lee:

you can say that again. a lot of foolish people.
Avatar 6:49pm glenn:

all i have to say is - donald trump is basically rob ford. would you want a moron like rob ford running anything?
  6:50pm P-90:

Again, these people seem so sincerely interested in what's best for everyone.. If their views sound so wrong, is it just the quality of their information? @Linda Lee: I see you just beat me to basically the same point!

I resist presentism, the notion that there are "more stupid people" now than, say, at the founding. Have you ever skimmed the notes of the constitutional conventions? Yeesh...
