Options Brian Turner: Playlist from December 8, 2015 Options

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Avatar 3:15pm steve:

RFTT was so good (Rocket From The Tombs)
  3:17pm nEIL cOMMA wILD:

RFTT looks awesome!
Avatar 3:19pm steve:

BT did the Lost Treasures of the Underworld label owner get his records to you at (or after) RFTT? he couldn't find you and generously handed me a nice new anonymous weirdo psych record.
Avatar 3:20pm Brian Turner:

Yes he did. Do you have any more info about the guy steve, the records have no markings, labels, tracklists whatsoever and I cant figure out what they are!
Avatar 3:23pm steve:

pretty sure its this - www.discogs.com...
same runout groove text, same poster, i think same track times.
  3:27pm Brendan:

My dentist is weird like that too. Always asking me questions ( like 'is it safe?') when there is a mess of apperati in my mouth.
  3:29pm Clay:

Brian this is great!!! MORE HEAVY JAMS
  3:47pm nEIL cOMMA wILD:

@Brian---THANK YOU I have NEVER EVER EVER heard of Sir Lord Baltimore...where did you discover them Brian?
Avatar 3:47pm Lopez:

Such a rockin Tuesday! Go BT go!!
Avatar 3:48pm Cecile:

they were a great heavy proto metal band. Got lots of airplay on underground 70s stations. That's why all the fratboys in A2 kept asking me for their records at the used store I worked at.
Avatar 3:48pm Cecile:

and the old hippies who wore out their copies.
  3:49pm Brendan:

Sounds like they ran a seagull through a phase shifter or a vitamix at the end of that last track either way excellent processing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm common:

exactly, brendan
Avatar 3:50pm jdelz:

Minch! RIP Konya!
Avatar 3:52pm Cheri Pi:

Damnit I missed Motives of Existence!!! Stupid active shooter workshop.
Avatar 3:53pm Cecile:

I looked him up. Jeezus, two strokes at such a young age. RIP.
Avatar 3:53pm Cecile:

oh, active shooter. We did that. Scary stuff. I'm sorry.
Avatar 3:54pm Cheri Pi:

We're having an active shooter drill on Sunday but I'm not going.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm chris:

the only thing worse than an active shooter workshop or drill is an active shooter
Avatar 3:55pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm chris:

loving the show, BT! rawk!
Avatar 3:55pm jdelz:

Yeah, Konya was a great guy and a friend to everyone he met. True lifer metalhead and made tons of great / ridiculous music. Lots to remember him by.
Avatar 3:55pm Cecile:

We did a drill in the middle of class at MCTC once. It was pretty much "lock the door, get under the table and pray"
Avatar 3:56pm Cecile:

jdelz, I'm happy he had a real full life. That means something.
Avatar 3:56pm Cheri Pi:

Now it's Run, hide, fight. I'm running.
Avatar 3:57pm Cecile:

yup, we did that one too. I'm in the run or hide camp. Unless I can kick the person in the 'nads. Then I'm all "fight".
Avatar 3:58pm Lopez:

Active shooter workshops are now a thing? That's pretty crazy stuff but I guess makes sense. Do you all work in some official capacity or is it commonplace?
*I have a small shop in a small building so I'm removed from anything procedural
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm chris:

run in a group, CP! no shit, and it sucks, but only run in a group.
  3:58pm nEIL cOMMA wILD:

I would fight. I would go up to them and say "hey you left the safety on" then, when the look, grab the gun out of their hands. Because that would be surprising and unexpected.
Avatar 3:59pm Cecile:

Lopez, yes they are. It is the saddest thing ever.
Avatar 4:00pm Cecile:

I had one at school, and did online training for my regular govmint job.
Avatar 4:00pm Cheri Pi:

I work in a library with wide open spaces and unlockable doors
  4:01pm Brendan:

Zig zag when you run . And sing 'its a beautiful day in the neighborhood ' makes it harder for them to focus and stay angry
Avatar 4:02pm Cheri Pi:

all great suggestions!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm common:

had one at the prison i gave tours at. creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm chris:

there is a totally ridiculous animal instinct in me to want to go all NRA nutjob and be able to shoot back... but that's horseshit, unless you do it for a living (i.e. shoot people who are shooting at you, for a living)
Avatar 4:02pm Cecile:

At school we have auto-lock doors in the corridors, and places to hide at work.

Someone should make book or cubicle fabric cammo.
Avatar 4:03pm Lopez:

That's something else. Had no idea.
We had earthquake drills when I was a kid in California but that's natural stuff
Avatar 4:04pm Cecile:

I'm glad I'm getting the training, but it is horrible we have to have it.
Avatar 4:04pm V Priceless:

sounds dumb, but maybe everyone should immediately start throwing their shoes (or anything) at shooters, distract/break the OODA loop just long enough to charge them...also LED tactical flash lights might be good for distraction - they are compact and blinding. It's nutty to have to think about this stuff now...
Avatar 4:05pm Cecile:

VP, that is something we are supposed to do. If the shooter stops shooting, distract and charge.
  4:05pm FOXy:

Ben Carson would have already tackled them and bound them.
Avatar 4:06pm V Priceless:

any split-second distraction is an advantage for we the peeps to overpower en masse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I think my little scheme will be to hide a stash of firecrackers and smoke bombs in my desk. When the shooters come, I light them up and sneak out during the resulting confusion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm common:

i should just always be around m.e.s. he's distracting and confusing.
  4:09pm Brendan:

Dont overlook flinging poo at the aggressor ala primates
  4:09pm nEIL cOMMA wILD:

Obama has disqualified Trump from being president...just read this...
  4:12pm nEIL cOMMA wILD:

We had an active shooter drill at work, it was disturbing...
Avatar 4:19pm Cheri Pi:

their video is EPIC
  4:21pm Brendan:

Those guys beat off their attackers? Good to hear, I love a happy ending.
  4:22pm The Eer:

I caught that too, Brendan!
  4:23pm Chug A Lug:

Roger Miller really came a long way from "Dang Me" and "King of the Road" didn't he?
  4:24pm nEIL cOMMA wILD:

Frippertronics? In Roger Miller...also, is Space Is The Place a Sun Ra song??
Avatar 4:24pm Brian Turner:

It's actuall a 1988 recording.
  4:25pm Brendan:

They should be glad the guitarist wasn't strapped on. And thats it from Action News 90.1

Isn't Riverrun a lord of the ring reference?
  4:51pm Brendan:

Riverrun is a Game of Thrones reference. Rivendell is a Rings reference , and a Rush song.
4:53pm pierre (from the app, this is why there isn't any:

Merci Brendan, my heroic fantasy is pretty rusty
Avatar 4:54pm Cecile:

I'm OK, Pierre. Sometimes OK is OK!
  4:55pm Brendan:

These kind of great tracks eliminate the need for station ids.
  4:57pm Ike:

It's so strange that Game of Thrones is a mainstream fantasy thing now whereas it seems it must've orig. been written as a dark realpolitik rebuke to standard fantasy.
5:00pm pierre (from the app, this is why there isn't any:

@Cecile : I like how you keep it realistic. OK is indeed OK.

@ Ike : yeah I guess it's shifting. I wouldn't know really (since I've never read the books). In general I'm quite interested how I feel that the genre is often regarded as less interesting and serious (at least in France) than other literature genre, whereas everyone seem to enjoy GoT. But yeah I'm no specialist.
Avatar 5:02pm steve:

goddammit i need to check the St Vitus calendar more often
Avatar 5:03pm Cecile:

Ike, I'm sure it was. Martin's first (and IMO best piece) The Way of Cross and Dragon was a stinging response to heroic fantasy and to religion.
