Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Oi Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Scott Williams:

Ahoy, me buddies! b'casting today from one corner of Jim Price's very gnarly sofa. There are stains and smoke-stinks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Carmichael:

Hiya Scott and listeners.
  3:11pm Pete L:

I like this French prog angle, Scott - thanks- was just listening to Jeff Conklins archive playing weird French stuff I didn't know, pretty neat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Carmichael:

Due to the length of this song, methinks Scott had to use the bathroom ...
  3:18pm bloopy:

hey scott
  3:20pm r i s k y:

viva le france! Viva freedom! Viva vive!
Avatar 3:25pm Joe B:

wow, I was just thinking of that New Pornographers session!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Je suis parisien. Nous sommes tous parisiens...

Hi Scott and friends! Good cover, I can hear the Sparks origin in here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Scott Williams:

Joe B, my clearest recollection of that (great) day is Neko Case laying on the floor, commanding bandmates to walk on her back. Great cover!
Avatar 3:36pm V Priceless:

heya Scott! sad to report it appears PF Sloan has left the building, according to Jimmy Webb's FB page! : (
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Matt from Springfield:

So far Wiki isn't updated - but in any event, let's live for today, and don't worry about tomorrow..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Scott Williams:

I just heard, V Priceless; sad news indeed. A bunch of FMUers had great things to say about his set at Ponderosa last month
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Greg from ZONE 5:

First Allen Toussaint, now PF Sloan. What a week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Scott Williams:

Yep Greg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Matt from Springfield:

I was about to say Greg - good thing we got P.F. for the Ponderosa Stomp last month. Similarly I saw Allen at NOLA's JazzFest last year, and it was a good thing I did.
Avatar 3:44pm V Priceless:

@ Scott - that's right, he just performed there! Plus Michael Shelley's interview w/him from Sept. '14 was great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm steve:

hey folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Scott Williams:

Hiya Steve
Avatar 3:54pm V Priceless:

haha - just saw the 3D version of the 'Peanuts' flick - it was cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm steve:

i went on a Dr Gameshow binge this weekend... took a 5 hour walk from my apartment to the George Washington Bridge while listening to Dr G archives the whole way... then my phone died after taking exactly one photo from the bridge walkway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Joe D.:

NJ famous band Screaming Females on Dr. Gameshow tonight - highly recommended if you're looking to continue bingeing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm steve:

wow, thats a double whammy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Scott Williams:

thanks for the hedsup on that, Joe D. How you doin??
Avatar 4:00pm JakeGould:

@steve: Just came here at just the right time now. So I hope the game I have issues with that I made that other people liked that I’m not too hot on “Let’s Give Them This” helped speed you on your way. Also, always impressed by your mega-walks!
Avatar 4:00pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Well spoken, sir (re: walking away from social media)...
As it happens, FB did the job for me. Thanks to the use-your-real-name robot goon-squads. I'm just headstrong enough to refuse. Taking it as my sacred cue to toss FB in the bin. Finally.
  4:02pm Bill C:

The GW is my favorite bridge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Carmichael:

I'm with ya, RTD. Got hit up by a long-ago friend and decided to test the waters and "friend". 48 posts later (in about 36 hours), I reversed gears. I now have no friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm steve:

i thought Lets Give Them This was classic Dr Gameshow
Avatar 4:04pm JakeGould:

@steve: Well, hey… I guess I hit the right note! So all good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Scott Williams:

Good on ya, Rev! Wish I had your fortitude
Avatar 4:06pm JakeGould:

The Facebook flag stuff should never have happened. It’s ridiculous. Placing users in a scenario where they can only be “loyal” to one bunch of colors. At the end of the day I’m feeling that Facebook will just use the data collected by that whole process to—I don’t know—sell the user profile pic branding process to an advertiser.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Scott Williams:

JakeGould, yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm steve:

whats to dislike about Lets Give Them This? isnt it exactly the sort of creative improv prompt that the show begs for?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Matt from Springfield:

What a rhythm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Much as 'Support the Troops' coded for (passive-aggressively enforced) 'Support the Wars or Be Ostracized By All Society'
...on the other hand - of course we display empathy w/ & support of Paris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm steve:

ive been doing FB less and less (and it was really hard at first since i work from home by myself 3 days a week and used to leave it open all day) and i feel like im seeing the world with new eyes. also i agree with Jake about the free data mining.
Avatar 4:10pm JakeGould:

@steve: I felt it was a wee bit too convoluted. But Jo Firestone made it work. So kudos! Also I have a few other games I sent her way that I feel are tentpole ideas. My personal pets. My ideas are like pets or children to me. So I love them even if they piss me off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Faceborg having the automatic thing of Parisian friends checking themselves off as 'safe' was quite handy. Of course it didn't happen for Beirut or anywhere...unwhite...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Scott Williams:

Yesterday I stayed fully offline til 10:30pm, when I realized I hadn't ground my teeth all day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Increasingly I think that will be the case. In Haiti in '10 there was some kind of app to check on people there (might have been by an individual, maybe supported by Google?) But the big corps didn't take the initiative then to start that up.
Avatar 4:15pm Chris from DC:

I have a problem with FB constantly trying to get users to pay for more people to be able to see band/organization pages. Almost dumped it over that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Matt from Springfield:

As for me the FS is my FB! My account on FB is merely a placeholder to spy on others. Also birthday alerts! Since I got my smartphone that is the one handy thing about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's the same problem as Net Neutrality: It's obviously become a Public Utility - yet it's all Private Biz owned by 1%ers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Matt from Springfield:

@Chris: That was even 7 years ago, I think the "Zombie" and other such games people kept pinging me with and wanting to install this ?able 3rd party software? Um, nope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Greg from ZONE 5:

I actually deactivated my facebook yesterday! Only to reactivate it this morning when I realized I have some extra concert tix I need to hock. But I got A LOT of work done yesterday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it's *our* online identities & communities
- but Zuckerbird's servers.
FMU addresses this w/ webio - but no freeform platform for social media can yet replace fb...
  4:19pm Ike:

Greets, humans!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Matt from Springfield:

Greets Ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Scott Williams:

Welcome Ike!
Avatar 4:20pm JakeGould:

Facebook isn’t bad. A lot of the complaints you guys are airing remind me of “Get off the Internet!” or even “Get off the BBS!” things I heard years ago. I’m numb to people telling me what I should be sad about and how I should be sad about them. But in the case of Facebook, this whole “Change your profile picture or else!” mentality is fairly toxic and fascist. That’s my issue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, is this John Maus @ regular speed??
Avatar 4:24pm Chris from DC:

I was going to guess Traktor John Maus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Scott Williams:

Matt, yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..as for perpetual campaign season tooth-grinding...they deregulated election money so they can saturate us w/ negative campaigning & turn us off from Voting.
Then again, I don't feel obligated to politely disagree w/ everybody. Many I agree w/ turn me off w/ stating the obvious/commonplace/overstated w/ no style. Aesthetics. Kind of like my over-commenting here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Amazing, Scott!
Yep Chris, I was thinking the same. Or (33ed).

Now this MotO, same dealy-o!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm MD:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: The good news (or perhaps "silver lining") is that all this unregulated cash, without rules, doesn't buy one dominance. Though it sure buys a helluva lotta noise. But as I avoid "noise" anyway, I get on without it fine!
Avatar 4:29pm V Priceless:

Heard this funny anecdote today: the great thing about the internet is everyone has a voice; the bad thing about the internet is everyone has a voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Matt: Again: If they turn people off from Voting generally, it's money well-spent to them, I think. & it works, as Voter turnout shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Carmichael:

Personally, I just got tired of reading some peoples' every fleeting thought. The People magazine of the internet. Full of exciting, useless and bothersome noise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm MD:

yeah! we should all have an internet free day....we should all go do something...like look at a tree
or take a walk...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Bad news is I'm missing Flaming Groovies. Good news it's cuz I'm seeing Colbert & JJ Abrams in Newark. NO BIGGIE
  4:38pm Dustin:

Rockin-O-Phonically :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Andrew Waterloo:

This week I have to squeeze in Douglas Ewing, three noisy bands Yokatan Gat, King Crimson, a local symphony performance, and Toronto band called Catl.
Avatar 4:52pm TDK60:

Can't make the Flaming Groovies so if you go, let us know if their stage clothing is up to Mod-Garage-Psych standards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Can be…
Avatar 4:57pm Chris from DC:

Avatar 5:00pm northguineahills:

I love this Marclay rekkid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Matt from Springfield:

November is often quite the dark month. So I'm enjoying what light shines through my speakers here!
Avatar 5:09pm JakeGould:

On topic: Just thought “The Passions” were “The Slits” for a second.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Slits-sy indeed, Jake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Scott's got vacation on the brain…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Matt from Springfield:

..er, Amanaz??...
Avatar 5:20pm Chris from DC:

Either way, this is nice.
Avatar 5:20pm dale:

digging the aamanaz. how come all we heard in 75 was the captain and tennile or fleetwood mac? why wasn't this played on am rock station?
Avatar 5:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

something nicely Pearls-Before-Swine-ish about this.
Avatar 5:20pm northguineahills:

I didn't know Amanda Nazario fronted an African band in the 70s?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Matt from Springfield:

@NGH: She also fronted a South American one, "Amazan".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Scott Williams:

ngh, I bet she could've! she's got starpower on tha stage fer sher
Avatar 5:22pm TDK60:

Because the '70s were odd, Dale. Radio was awful, except for places like here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Matt from Springfield:

'Taint no healing like Invisible Astro Healing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Matt from Springfield:

@TDK: "Moonlight Feels Right"!
(Which, incidentally, is sometimes also found here! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Joe D.:

@Scott I'm doing good now! Currently being Astro Healed by this Rhythm Quartet I can't see.

seriously though wowza
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Scott Williams:

good to know, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Matt from Springfield:

I can't see a reason not to Clicky-Star this..
Avatar 5:37pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Bas NL:

(Bit busy here, but enjoying the show Scott!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Matt from Springfield:

  5:39pm Bklyn kid:

Got my swag today thanks! Bird Beak yea!
  5:41pm JakeGould:

Avatar 5:41pm dale:

did he spell "incontinent ?"
  5:42pm Miss Linda lee:

that was disastrous.
  5:43pm JakeGould:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Killer "unconfident" mix.
(Hope I spelled that right.)
Avatar 5:44pm Pseu Braun:

Sublime show - thanks, Shcott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Scott Williams:

Thanks y'all! PSEU! How do you do? Nice to see Yeu
  5:54pm JakeGould:

Bravo on the show as well! Eye can now spell righty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm steve:

super show as always. ill never understand how you do this every week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Scott Williams:

Does anyone else recall C. Brown having to spell "Useless"? I recollect that real strong "U-S-E-L-E-S-S, USELESS"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Grok-o-matic:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Field recordings!

@Scott: I suppose that might've been a Charlie spelling word, but may have been cut in the current print, as the editors found its inclusion quite...well, y'know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks muchly Scott! Always great to listen in.

Have a good evening, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Greg from ZONE 5:
