international falls is pretty damn cold, but nothing like edmonton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm unpopularfred:

Nothing evokes love quite like the airport
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Evening, Gaylord and everybody!
  5:07pm original famous sugarwolf:

Hello! Hope you play some good driving music!

And by hope I mean I know you will
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm redkayak:

Howdy all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Gaylord Fields:

@unpopularfred: Saarinen's TWA terminal at JFK evokes that very emotion in me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Gaylord Fields:

@original famous sugarwolf: Depends what I'm driving you to...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Gaylord Fields:

How-do, @redkayak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This piano music kind of makes me want to get up and dust the furniture. Music to dust furniture by!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm unpopularfred:

Well, OK, you got me there. I usually have to deal with Logan, which evokes other emotions (as plane flies over my head). We do have Saarinen's lovely Kresge Auditorium at MIT, however.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Gaylord Fields:

@Ken From Hyde Park: I wish I had songs in my life that would inspire me to clean things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks for dropping by, @Greg from ZONE 5!
  5:24pm #4:

Yes, It Could !!
Avatar 5:25pm dale:

manilow on fmu - mind blown!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Gaylord Fields:

@#4: I believe in magic.
Avatar 5:26pm dale:

...and not a 45 at 33 either!
Avatar 5:26pm coelacanth:

hi Gaylord and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Greg from ZONE 5:

@Gaylord: pre-gaming before the Jonathan Richman show tonite!
Avatar 5:27pm coelacanth:

(actually i was kind of psyched to hear that Chopin piece.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: Not the first time at all, and not even the first time for this particular song (thought a few twisted versions of Manilow songs have been played on the station).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Tune wiki: en.wikipedia.org...
  5:28pm #4:

: ) @Gaylord ~ quite lovely of you ~
Avatar 5:28pm dale:

it's a great song. did you ever throw some dan hill down on the turntable? i admit i liked him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Gaylord Fields:

@coelacanth: That is a particularly lovely Chopin bit Barry begins the song with.
Avatar 5:29pm Jeezy:

BARRY! My first concert ever, age 6! :-)
Avatar 5:30pm coelacanth:

yes, and ya know? i don't hate this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: I don't care for "Sometimes When We Touch," alas -- mostly because of the lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@coelacanth: I was hoping for that reaction.
Avatar 5:31pm coelacanth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Gaylord Fields:

@Jeezy: Nice! I'm sure he put on quite the show.
Avatar 5:32pm dale:

yeah, it almost seems like he wants to slap up his lady in that one if he can't hold her tight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the music of the subconscious: always liked that tune, but conveniently forgot it was Barry...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Sometimes it's easy to hold disdain for songs for reasons that have little to do with the songs themselves.
Avatar 5:33pm coelacanth:

kind of like Telly Savalles (sp?) doing "you've lost that loving feeling"...he sounds like he's gritting his teeth in anger at one point!
  5:34pm robin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Gaylord Fields:

@robin: Shhh...we're in public!

PS: xo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Gaylord Fields:

@coelacanth: More like "You Packed a Bag in 10 Minutes Flat, Dropped the Kids Off at the Grandparents, and Left No Forwarding Address Feeling"!
  5:38pm P-90:

LOVE the Rasperries. And Saarinen. @DJ Gaylord: I'm sure you noticed that the entire design of the secret MIB headquarters in the movie Men In Black was inspired by Saarinen's JFK terminal and iconic "Tulip" chairs and tables.
  5:39pm P-90:

...assuming you've seen that movie...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Gaylord Fields:

@P-90: Now I have a reason to!
  5:43pm original famous sugarwolf:

Barry makes great driving music!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Gaylord Fields:

original famous sugarwolf: Why yes. Yes, he does.
Avatar 5:46pm coelacanth:

i thought this was Graham Nash i never heard...an d i guess it was.
-quite nice.
  5:46pm david from ks:

,,,good stuff !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@coelacanth: I'm quite enamored of the Graham Nash–era Hollies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Gaylord Fields:

@david from ks: I'm very happy that we agree.
Avatar 5:55pm coelacanth:

i have a patchy knowledge, considering the large output of the hollies; but tend to always like the Nash-era stuff...'though i do LOVE "the air that i breathe".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- was surprised to read the Hollies' wiki & be schooled they didn't disturb U.S. Charts much @ all till later...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Gaylord Fields:

@coelacanth: When "The Air That I Breathe" was a hit, I was distracted by other songs, but I have a better appreciation for it now.

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: They were surprisingly teh late bloomers of the British Invasion, with many worthy songs not charting in the Top 40 until "Bus Stop."
Avatar 5:59pm dale:

i bought the 45 of air that i breath when i as a kiddie. it's a good am gold power hit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...crazy because - absolute top tier vocal group, great players (Bobby Elliot's drum bits always stood out to me), song choices...
Avatar 6:06pm glenn:

unfortunately, for me anyway, the sheer awfulness of "he ain't heavy, he's my brother" steered me away from the hollies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Melissa Jean:

good evenin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Gaylord Fields:

@Melissa Jean: Evenin', ma'am!
Avatar 6:09pm coelacanth:

i don't hate that song (though Neil Diamond's version's much better) - but it's not a good representation of the hollies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

hm - I'm fine w/ 'Brother' - as the Hollies did it; I think it got over-exposed being covered bombastically by everyone...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Gaylord Fields:

@glenn: I'm okay with "Brother," but, like @coelacanth, I kinda consider it a decent pop song that the Hollies' vocalists happen to have sung (and sing quite well, objectively speaking).
Avatar 6:14pm coelacanth:

i can with no hesitation say this is my favorite version of "fantasy".
Avatar 6:15pm glenn:

i know it's all relative, but i hate that song.
  6:17pm ?:

lovely sets tonight, Mr. Fields! cheers me up despite the look of winter here in the northern appalachians.
Avatar 6:18pm glenn:

i like alastair galbraith, though. quite a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm Gaylord Fields:

@?: Thanks: I hope I can turn that "?" into a "!"
Avatar 6:18pm coelacanth:

...so it's like saying "would you rather be eaten alive by a tiger or a lion?".
Avatar 6:20pm glenn:

tiger, i think.
  6:20pm Linda Lee:

whoops -- forgot the name that time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Gaylord Fields:

Hiya, @Linda Lee! Glad you're representing!
  6:22pm Linda Lee:

yes indeed! having a ball with the sounds tonight. perfect.
Avatar 6:22pm dale:

we've discussed this charlie rich song before - you schooled me that his wife wrote it. just gold.
Avatar 6:23pm dale:

i was 'decruited' from a job of 9 years a couple of weeks after i got married - it holds a lot of meaning to me.
  6:23pm Mr C:

As good as it gets! and better yet/...Charlie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Melissa Jean:

this one's an EXCELLENT Sunday Nite Sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Gaylord Fields:

@dale: That inspires me to play another great husband sings/wife writes duo, probably in the next set.
  6:25pm Linda Lee:

just lovin this vibe. stellar show!
Avatar 6:25pm dale:

hey mar-GO-lis!
  6:26pm Linda Lee:

husband singer/wife writer .. did Ring Of Fire set the bar?
Avatar 6:26pm dale:

june carter cash is all i can think of, but you probably have a sackful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Gaylord Fields:

@Linda Lee: Johnny and June is a good one -- but I'm thinking of Jimmy and Mama Reed, if I can find it.
  6:28pm Linda Lee:

o yes! of course!
Avatar 6:29pm dale:

were they on cbs? that network tried so hard to replace sonny and cher but nothing had the same magic. not even shields and yarnell. maybe the captain and tenille. were they all cbs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm famous original sugarwolf:

I'd recognize Jeannette anywhere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: She's all Jeanette in any language!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm famous original sugarwolf:

I am sad. I left my leftover lunch at work, and I won't be back until Wednesday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@sugarwolf - Can you call a co-worker to put it in the fridge or is your lunch behind a locked door?
  6:38pm Linda Lee:

amazing coasters side .. a genre-buster!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm famous original sugarwolf:

It's in the fridge, and they are pretty good about leaving food there. A little TOO good; there's some sweet and sour sauce from God knows when.
  6:39pm Keith Beck:

Lovin' the show! Hudson Brothers was a groove!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mr C: C. Rich and M.A. Rich are the utmost and the ultimate and the utmost!
Avatar 6:42pm Monica:

all killer, no filler!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Gaylord Fields:

@Monica: !!! (and I'm not shouting out to a band -- those are all yours.)
  6:44pm Linda Lee:

beautiful sides. every one. brilliant show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Gaylord Fields:

@Linda Lee: That Coasters song was not only prescient but also pretty daring for its time (and even for now). And thanks for the kindnesses!
  6:50pm Linda Lee:

all heartfelt. up here in the woods without another soul in sight .. good radio is crucial! & you do it right. thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@Keith Beck: The Hudson Brothers were a pretty common phenomenon in the Seventies: A really good band saddled with the absolutely wrong image.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm Gaylord Fields:

@Linda Lee: I'm glad WFMU can break through the solitude.
  6:52pm Mark R:

Always nice to hear Jimmy Reed. I guess he was drunk most of the time. That's why his wife had to sit next to him in the studio and whisper the words to him. Sometimes you can hear her a little bit.
Avatar 6:52pm Juke Joint Jonny:

FYI What About Us is Bernie Sanders' official campaign song.
  6:53pm Mark R:

I remember the Hudson Brothers TV show. I never watched it, but I remember there was such a thing as the Hudson Brothers Show. I remember thinking, "Who the hell are the Hudson Brothers?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Gaylord Fields:

@Juke Joint Jonny: There is no better anthem for the 99% (sorry, every single folksinger)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm famous original sugarwolf:

I'm young, so all I know about the Hudson Brothers is they were responsible for giving us Kate. Thanks, Obama!!
  6:55pm Quest:

Why am I still chained to a memory? Love Dusty! Love the Gaylord show!
Avatar 6:56pm dale:

wasn't it the hudson bros good time smile hour?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm melinda:

Dusty sounds so good.
Avatar 6:56pm dale:

maybe that was when my mother took her darvon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@Quest: Love Dusty! Love your love!
Avatar 6:56pm JakeGould:

  6:56pm Linda Lee:

Gaylord .. absolutely! & the station comes in better than any others .. up on a mountainside 100 miles from the station. i'm a lucky kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Gaylord Fields:

@melinda: That is always a true statement.
  7:00pm IFisher:

Gaylord, your show transcends the senses. I don't feel like I am listening to the radio, more like I'm traveling in a strange, wondrous new land, where all modes of perception are called for duty.

How many people jumped during that Coasters tune, like me, screamed, wondered why we have never heard this before, and marveled at the relevance of this ancient tune?

Looking forward to future exploration together.
Avatar 7:00pm coelacanth:

Thanks Gaylord!
see y'all.
  7:00pm P-90:

"The Dusty Springfield Cover Paradigm" -so true.
Thanks, Gaylord, and may you have a Gaylorious week.
