HELP GET ME SUSPENDED!!!! Send them green papers with the nice pictures of Billy McKinley, Ulysses.S. Grant, and Benny Franklin with the BIG numbers on 'em to MY show Zzzzzzero Hour!

Hey Everyone, Ken has set a goal of $1300 for Zzzzzzero Hour. I would like to at least hit the $1000 mark... only $76 away from that goal. Pledge if you can. It all goes to help us keep the station alive & vital till spring.
Avatar 8:10pm Bill Mac:

@LL When you say one-eyed cat I'm assuming you don't have a cat cyclops terrorizing you and your computer equipment.
  8:11pm Linda Lee:

i do! not cyclops exactly .. his existing eye is in the right place.
Avatar 8:12pm JakeGould:

@LindaLee: Is the cat a stray that got an eye infection? That’s pretty common.
  8:13pm Linda Lee:

not sure what happened, Jake .. he's been with me for a while .. eye turned white .. then ruptured. ergo one eye. he's doing great though .. jumpin around messin things up!
  8:14pm Linda Lee:

sure wish i was bill gates' gardener tonight! i'd take it to the limit for zzzzzzero hour!
Avatar 8:16pm Bill Mac:

  8:20pm P-90:

Phrase of the Week: "cat cyclops"
Possible good band name, too.
  8:21pm Linda Lee:

you'll think i'm mad .. but just now hearing an owl outside hooting in time to the scott fagan. kid you not! .. keep the great music coming, Bill! all us forest critters dig it.
  8:22pm Linda Lee:

  8:36pm Linda Lee:

as a kid i ** loved ** soupy sales! still remember his show very well. no one gave a damn what i watched on tv. he was hysterical! & yes, i do remember his sudden disappearance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm steve:

i still can't believe Soupy Sales actually thought he could get away with that
  8:38pm Linda Lee:

i don't think tv content was monitored as closely as it is now. plus he was just outrageous. another fiend pushing the envelope at a time when a lot of that was happening.
  8:39pm Linda Lee:

of course it was just a joke. he was riffin. feelin free. oops!
Avatar 8:40pm Bill Mac:

He made a comeback ini the 70s. I used to watch with my lil sister. He was still hilarious!
  8:40pm Linda Lee:

comeback really? i missed it!
  8:44pm Linda Lee:

love this ash wednesday side. lovely! brings back the days of my misspent youth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Rare Earth, Ween, nice!
Avatar 8:47pm Bill Mac:

We used to regularly hang at a club in NJ that was called the Latin Casino. In the 50s all the biggies used to play there. It reinvented itself as a disco in the mid 70s and then turned into a New Wave club - saw XTC, Joe Jackson, Pretenders, B52s....
Avatar 8:49pm Bill Mac:

@BB - There's a link, really!!!
  8:49pm Linda Lee:

sounds like a great spot Bill! hope they kept the 50s decor ..
  8:52pm Linda Lee:

love the no wave vibes!
Avatar 8:58pm Bill Mac:

@LL - Nah, I DO remember dancing to The Specials "Gangsters" on a checkerboard lit dance floor. Nobody cared about the 50s in the 70s sadly.
Avatar 9:07pm JakeGould:

Is this a duck on “High tension Zarner?”
Avatar 9:08pm Bill Mac:

I dunno man but I love the sound.
Avatar 9:09pm JakeGould:

@BillMac: Somewhat like this duck army. vine.co...
  9:12pm Linda Lee:

checkerboard dancefloor sounds pretty great too. .. our crowd actually went for 50s style back then .. lots of our cheap thrift store rags were probably that old .. amazing wealth of 50s fashions for pennies on the dollar! thin lapel jackets, skinny ties, mohair sweaters, heavy black sunglasses ..
  9:13pm Linda Lee:

ecco New Wave!
Avatar 9:13pm Bill Mac:

Ya gotta keep em penned up!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Yay Box Tops! You're in my brain tonight Bill!
  9:23pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 9:23pm Bill Mac:

@BB Eat more cereal.......
Avatar 9:24pm Bill Mac:

What a lazy segue - bad enough they were right next to one another when I was pulling material for the show...
  9:25pm Linda Lee:

as far as i can tell you're doin no wrong tonight, Bill. it all works.
Avatar 9:26pm Bill Mac:

it goes without saying the it's those 'other' shows I do that keep me humble.
  9:27pm Linda Lee:

you mean, fillin other shoes?
  9:29pm Linda Lee:

i've gotta try finding your 'other shoes' shows consciously.
Avatar 9:30pm Bill Mac:

I useta have shoes....
  9:31pm Linda Lee:

i'm sorry you lost em.
Avatar 9:31pm Bill Mac:

Only $26 away from the $1000 mark thanks to the generosity of KP. Everybody look under your sofa cushions for loose change!!!!
  9:36pm Listener Robert:

I don't get it: How hard you work there?
Avatar 9:38pm Bill Mac:

This ain't work.... besides it's a pseudo multi person operation
  9:40pm P-90:

The Soupy Sales thing has been blown a little bit out of proportion over the years. Kids didn't actually raid their Dad's wallets and send money to WNEW, a very few people sent a buck or two just to be in on the joke. The point was that it was New Year's Day, and he was joking about how some of the parents would still be crashed out after partying all night when his show was on in the early afternoon. There was some controversy when the papers picked up the story and his show was actually suspended for one week as a token gesture, no one took it that seriously. I still remember the cartoons they showed in place of his show that week, and counting the days until he would be back.
  9:43pm Linda Lee:

makes for a juicy legend .. keeps the comedic spirit alive. funny how that works.
Avatar 9:44pm Bill Mac:

Thanks to Patrick from Morristown, New Jersey Zzzzzzero Hour is over the $1000 mark. Much appreciated!!!

Hey all, thanks a ton for keeping me company and showing your support as per usual.... love to all.... LONG LIVE SOUPY!!!
  9:58pm P-90:

Congratulations Zzzzzzzero hour!
and thanks Bill, another one for the ages...

@Linda: ultimately the Soupy thing was an off-the-cuff gag about feeling put-upon for not being given the day off, and it turned into a public relations stunt that increased the show's visibility and ratings. it was a very hip show, Sales was a Jazz fan and worked a lot of hip bee-bop into the show, and a lot of hipster humor aimed at adults. Sinatra was among his fans and surprise celebrity guests, and gave him a comedy record contract on his label. He was a real sweet guy and it came across on his show. I miss him.
  10:02pm Linda Lee:

i was just a tiny kid .. but loved the show! felt like one of the in crowd!
