  7:12pm Ahmad:

Awesome start!
  7:12pm Rob from Maryland:

The Cranes song on now makes me think of their absolutely fantastic song "Starblood", which also fits in with tonight's theme.
  7:14pm Rob from Maryland:

Faye, btw I love the gif!

ahhhhhh this Power Mystery piece is perfect indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My Little Pony is going to wind up with split ends from staring into that exhaust outlet like that.
  7:32pm JakeGould:

Clouds in front of the moon is like the tinfoil on your head. If you have tinfoil on your head. Just saying. Don’t hate!
  7:33pm Rob from Maryland:

Chook is an Australian word for chicken.
Avatar 7:34pm listener mark:

You slave over a hot cauldron all day! And it's cloudy!!

  7:35pm JakeGould:

Big Bird sang that song! He’s also learning how to read by reading signs. www.youtube.com...
  7:38pm JakeGould:

Also, Big Bird’s head is so tiny in comparison to what it looked like in following seasons.
  7:42pm Linda Lee:

no one is immune from the perils of fame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm common:

this is just one of the best songs ever and the moon is involved
  7:45pm JakeGould:

So Big Bird had some disfiguring accident like Rose McGowan and got plastic surgery?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Faye:

yes this is one of my favorite songs of all time, it's about OVERCOMING things
  7:46pm Linda Lee:

love the horns!
  7:48pm Ahmad:

I keep confusing Rose McGowan and Rose McDowall.
  7:50pm Ahmad:

Oh wow I used to play the hell out of this Blockhead album for a while.
  7:51pm Linda Lee:

honestly .. so pretty! this is all totally new to me. fantastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Faye:

welcome Linda!!
  7:52pm Linda Lee:

** thank you Faye! i'm thrilled. **
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm steve:

the world needs more unexpected clarinet solos
  7:54pm Linda Lee:

this is brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Faye:

yeah Ahmad tbh this is a great record, im not as familiar with it as I am with Uncle Tony's Coloring Book which i listened to constantly in like 2007-08
Avatar 7:54pm slugluv1313:

@ Linda Lee -- YES!!!!! one of THEE most awesome aspects of WFMU (and why i have been listening for decades): you can pretty much count on ALWAYS hearing unfamiliar and wonderful sounds!
  7:54pm Mart:

This song weirdly accompanies walking down the yogurt aisle fairly well
  7:56pm Linda Lee:

absolutely right slugluv! FMU has been a god since i first picked it up in 85. always prime fun!
  7:59pm Linda Lee:

( just caught the fact that you've been listening a while too! )

Damn… I’m getting all of the public TV references on today’s show: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm coelacanth:

hey Faye and hello Children
Avatar 8:08pm slugluv1313:

omg common there are days when i just CANNOT get the "ZOOM" theme song outta my head!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Leroy:

i have 2 obligations,in fact. one is to howl at a moon.
- any moon will do, but it's a no-brainer this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm melinda:

I was always envious of the Zoom kids, getting to be on a tv show.
  8:14pm JakeGould:

“Dislocation Dance” sounds very much like “Unrest.”
  8:17pm Ahmad:

Dislocation Dance sound a lot like quite a few bands active in the UK now. Shopping, Trash Kit, Wetdog, etc. Or should I say those bands sound like them.
  8:20pm JakeGould:

@melinda: The only kids I ever was envious of on TV were the kids from “Degrassi Junior High.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Faye:

I reeeeeallllly wanted to be on ZOOM. I thought the girl named Zoey was my doppleganger
Avatar 8:25pm amEdeo:

did somebody say ZOOM?
Avatar 8:26pm Nog:

~hey Fayee!~
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm melinda:

@Jake: I loved Degrassi Junior High but I think I was dealing with envy a bit better by then. Living in a metropolis like Toronto did seem pretty cool, though. I was also envious of kids on Sesame Street, in the occasional filmed segments where they went about the city doing stuff on their own, with nice music in the background. Such freedom.
  8:32pm JakeGould:

@melinda: I was a bit of a kid street rat in the 1970s running around and getting into all kinds of nonsense. It was rougher—and a bit darker—than what Sesame Street showed, but it was fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Sibylle Baier and Arthur Russell, yay!
  8:36pm Ahmad:

Pill the new band are pretty great, though.
  8:36pm Linda Lee:

are you talking about nyc Jake? beautiful town at the time. beautiful, tough, diverse, spacious. i ran about on my own as well, growing up. loved it. hardly 'hell on earth' as legend has it now.
  8:39pm JakeGould:

@LindaLee: Yup! NYC! Learned how to ride the trains on my own when I was 12. Which made me respect the conductor car!
  8:42pm Mart:

  8:43pm JakeGould:

Holy crap! A mysterious tweet from Emma. www.brooklynvegan.com...
Avatar 8:44pm dk:

if lush reunited for the sole purpose of playing 'sweetness and light' over and over for an entire show, i'd pretty much pay any price they wanted to print on the ticket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm robin:

has anyone noted this is a magnetic fields cover, this lush song?
  8:45pm JakeGould:

And… Another tweet… twitter.com...
  8:45pm Ahmad:

I had no idea they covered this! Beautiful.
  8:45pm Linda Lee:

totally cloudy in the catskills tonight .. no moon .. just a faint eastern glow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Gaylord Fields:

@Faye: I was wondering which SM moon song you were going to play. Any one would have made me happy. Therefore, I am happy.
  8:47pm Ahmad:

I was going to request "You and Me and the Moon" but yeah, that'll do.
Avatar 8:47pm slugluv1313:

@ Linda Lee and JakeGould -- i am soooooo JEALOUS! i grew up in "the sticks" a/k/a rural/suburban NJ -- as much as i loved stuff like "The Odd Couple" and other NYC based shows i so wanted to experience it for real, instead of just watching it on TV!
  8:48pm Linda Lee:

i hear you Jake! i started riding the trains a little earlier .. 9 or 10. pretty fantastic, if you think of it .. what we could do as kids .. we were lucky!
  8:51pm JakeGould:

@LindaLee: Holy crap yes! I had neighborhood friend… Around the 4th of July we would collect dud fireworks to scrape the gunpowder out of to make homemade M-80s. No helicopter parent would even dream of letting their kid do that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm melinda:

@slugluv: my childhood was largely rural and NYC shows fueled my dreams, too. I still get jealous hearing about kids roaming the streets in the 70s! But running free in the pastures was pretty cool, too, in hindsight.
  8:54pm JakeGould:

@slugluv1313: FWIW, seriously thinking of moving to NJ since NYC nowadays is a bit ridiculous. I’ve had my fill I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm melinda:

Pink Moon...perfect.
Avatar 8:54pm listener mark:

Thank you.
  8:56pm Eli:

Meaningful in two ways: Supermoon and Volkswagen scandal
  8:57pm Linda Lee:

frankly, i think it's great to be a kid running free. that's all. .. i left nyc a long time ago. had to.
  8:57pm Ahmad:

"The Killing Moon" is going to make an appearance eventually. Or is that too obvious?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm melinda:

@Eli: I will think of car exhaust when I go look at the moon tonight.
  8:59pm JakeGould:

@LindaLee: FWIW, there are still tons of “free range kids” in NYC nowadays… But they just aren’t in places like Park Slope or other more popular parts of Brooklyn.
Avatar 9:00pm slugluv1313:

@ melinda -- where i grew up, there was a farm behind my parents' property -- and what we did not grow in our own backyard, we got from this farmer's roadside stand (which was really just a few backyards away) -- 1st time i had a store-bought tomato -- YUCK! like eating cardboard! unfortunately though we really did not have huge pastures near my house, was already getting pretty suburban :(
@ JakeGould -- i was born and raised and will probably DIE in NJ! i am in Hoboken now, SO bizarre, i am one of those surviving few who moved here late 1970s/early 1980s when you could not PAY people to live here! but, there still ARE nice places is NJ -- just kinda gotta search
  9:00pm Linda Lee:

i remember kids doing that with the fireworks for sure. you weren't the only ones. ..
  9:00pm Linda Lee:

sorry for the double. don't know how that happened. damn dial up..
Avatar 9:01pm slugluv1313:

PINK MOON!!!!!!! thank you so much Faye!!!
and yes i remember when we all used to go into NYC to buy fireworks on Canal Street1
  9:03pm Linda Lee:

well sure, there have to be free range kids around .. so many parents working constantly.. or just unavailable. .. o sluglove, i lived near canal st for a few years in the late 70s .. it was mad around july 4. insane. Fie Woiks!
  9:03pm JakeGould:

@slugluv1313: Now it’s all bootleg bags and watches.
  9:08pm Linda Lee:

i'm sorry slugluv1313, misspelled your name. i've got one eye out the front door .. no moon tonight.
Avatar 9:08pm slugluv1313:

ha ha! yeah, Canal Street not what it used to be either -- miss all those warehouse type rubber and plastic shops and FIREWORKS
  9:10pm Kagi:

Hi, Faye! Haven't had a chance to listen live in a very long time. You're still America's Top DJ to me. Thanks!
  9:11pm Linda Lee:

do you remember Dave's Luncheonette? Canal & Broadway? fantastic place .. Mudd Club around the corner ..
Avatar 9:12pm slugluv1313:

@ Linda Lee -- omg YES! totally remember Dave's! spent many a late-post-club night there :)
  9:13pm JakeGould:

@LindaLee: I remember Dave’s Luncheonette only from a trip I made with my mom and dad to a garment factory for my mom to get work. Was at an open studio tour recently and was stopped in my tracks when I realized the building I was in most likely was the place I went to as a kid when it was still a factory.

@slugluv1313: Canal Rubber is still there but sadly one of the few left. It’s all turning into SoHo south right now.
  9:14pm Linda Lee:

my god. well you saw me there too then. i lived across the street! remember the mudd club opening. a lot of fun. great neighborhood. how great that you were there!
  9:14pm Ahmad:

I've only been to Silent Barn a couple times but they were easily two of my best NYC experiences and the few people who I know that worked/lived there are some of the nicest/most dedicated people I ever met. Donate if you can!
  9:16pm Linda Lee:

Jake .. yeah, when i lived down there, lots of lofts were still garment factories .
  9:17pm Linda Lee:

well .. one last look out the door .. for the missing moon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Damn it, I got up to put my laundry in the dryer and missed Pink Moon.
Avatar 9:21pm slugluv1313:

oh wow Linda LUCKY YOU! yes even though i was just a "tourist" when @ college (also in NJ) i went to NYC as often as possible! SO WEIRD when i see these photo essays of "scary" NYC in the 1970s!
the eclipse looks like it is beginning here . . . Moon is still not red though!
  9:21pm Linda Lee:

love all the music Faye. thank you!
  9:21pm JakeGould:

Yup! I can see the moon going away oh so slowly now. YES!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm common:

@ bronwyn: doing laundry also, but got to hear pink moon. the best moon song ever!
  9:23pm Linda Lee:

yeah right. scary NYC in the 70s. fantastic f*cking town. goin out now to see that moon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm soup and fog:

I'm always happy hearing Advantage Lucy.
Avatar 9:26pm slugluv1313:

YES! slooooooowly fading away!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm soup and fog:

One of those bands who chase off the bad stuff super well
  9:28pm Ahmad:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Faye:

  9:32pm Ahmad:

Yep, it's perfect.
  9:32pm Linda Lee:

just a hole in the clouds i can see the moon through ... so pretty! so strange .. seeing our shadow come over her face. lovely. just great. couldn't imagine nicer music for the night!
Avatar 9:32pm slugluv1313:

@ Linda Lee -- yeah, NYC had WAY more personality then! but "scary"???
i have seen photo-essays about how "scary" and "dangerous" NYC was in the 1980s too . . . by then i was working in Manhattan (some night jobs too! riding the freakin' subways at 3am etc.!) . . . i dunno, maybe it does look "scary" to people who are used to Times Square being all sanitized and homogenized??? SMDH . . .

slugluv .. we were lucky ones .. folks can't imagine. & that's fine.
Avatar 9:37pm slugluv1313:

Linda -- glad we got to experience it!
  9:41pm Ahmad:

"Astral Plain" to be replaced with "Total Eclipse of the Heart" tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Faye:

hahahaha i thought about that
  9:42pm martp:

i have not listened to this album in forever. hoooo boyyy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm melinda:

There was a great bit on Sesame Street in the 70s where the muppets were all riding the subway and singing about it.
  9:43pm JakeGould:

@Faye: The film is “Phase IV (Four)” and it’s about ants and space and stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Faye:

  9:44pm JakeGould:

@Faye: Just saying. Nothing more. Nothing less. Going to worship the blood moon now.
  9:45pm Linda Lee:

i'm glad too. it was nice to be young & out there.
Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Glenn M:

my moon is behind a cloud
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm melinda:

When is it supposed to turn red?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm soup and fog:

I like listening to this Ravel piece and looking at your horse animation
  9:48pm Linda Lee:

Luna plays peek a boo with her veil behind a cloud .. she's blushing a little right now .. not a blood color, just a faint rouge
  9:48pm MONEYBAG$:

I'm enjoying this along with the visuals...not the moon, an episode of Newhart
  9:49pm Linda Lee:

gotta go down a long flight of stairs & out the farmhouse door to watch
  9:50pm Linda Lee:

no tv here .. just gotta watch the moon. hey moon!
  9:52pm Listener Schned:

Martha Argerich, the Blood Moon via pianoforte! Thank you Faye-vela!

not *blushing" yet, still super super bright!
AND the kitties are going all nutty! :)
  9:57pm JakeGould:

@melinda: The dark part has red edge to it if you have no cloud cover. Pretty cool even in Brooklyn from the street.
  9:58pm marc15:

I definitely want to sleep with him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm melinda:

I'll go take another look and see if I can detect it.
  9:59pm Linda Lee:

i saw color on the white part .. but i'm up in the country, different light.
nothing at all now .. just dark.
