Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Hi Irwin! Sweet picture
  3:01pm Yogi:

Nobody goes to that bowling lane any more, it's too crowded
  3:03pm WILDNEIL:

Irwin, you rock, dude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Michael:

What a great pic Irwin. I had a similar one with Rizzuto once.
  3:06pm r i s k y:

Hey Irwin Baby!
  3:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

  3:07pm berbo:

Is it Wednesday already? asking for a friend.
  3:07pm lloyd michigan:

RIP, Yogi. One of the few Yankees I liked.
  3:07pm Listener Robert:

OK, I recognize Irwin, but who's the big dumb-looking guy, & who let him into the Berra Lanes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Irwin:

berb: yes, it's deja vu all over again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Michael:

Makes me thirsty for some Yoo Hoo.
  3:13pm JakeGould:

R.I.P. Yogi Berra. “Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours.”
  3:15pm Listening Out There:

The Whitfield appearance on the show was great. I've downloaded the tracks you posted from that, generous host...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Andrew Waterloo:

Whitfield was great live.
Avatar 3:20pm Trolleybus:

Love Moby Grape.
  3:22pm Brendan:

Great music to get drunk to on a calliope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm ChrisB.:

We used to drive past Rizzuto-Berra Lanes, which at the time was as good as a real celebrity sighting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm AnAnonymousParty:

Yum, kippers!
  3:30pm Brendan:

Yeppers the Marco on Irwin segments ARE on the archive.
  3:31pm Pidge:

When you come to a fork in the road, take it!
  3:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Recorded April 9–12, 1977
Eddie Gómez: bass (tracks 7-12)
Jack DeJohnette: drums (tracks 7-12)
  3:33pm Dean:

Lord, what a trio.
  3:37pm Brendan:

I liked the Yogi ism he replied when a socialite complimented him on being so cool: 'Thanks, you're not so hot yourself'
  3:43pm Brendan:

I have a love hate relationship with Texas. Probably because it sounds halfway each like sex and taxes.
  3:44pm berbo:

Unlike those commercial stations, WFMU knows how to honor the Pope's visit with the appropriate formality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Damn this kicks ass
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm AnAnonymousParty:

I have a WiFi HiFi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I remember when the new pope was announced, it was during your marathon show!
  3:54pm Park Ranger Smith:

I hated Yogi Bear.
  3:54pm Alison Porchnik:

Lookit all of those hats on the rack back there.
  3:55pm Dean:

Not a baseball fan here, but I love (the myth of) Yogi Berra. However, I confuse attribution of the bons mots of Berra, Casey Stengel, and Sam Goldwyn. But not Steven Wright.
  3:56pm Alison Porchnik:

Isn't there a book of poetry or something out there?
Avatar 3:57pm Hot Mess:

Yogi Berra "died on a day like any other day, only shorter."
  3:58pm Mark:

An appropriate Yogi-ism for political season: "We agree differently."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Michael:

Alison - don't know about Yogi but there is a Rizzuto poetry book.
Years ago the Voice would have selections in their sports pages in the back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Courtney Barnett and John Cale are an awesome combination!
  4:02pm Alison Porchnik:

Michael - yep that's what I'm thinking of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Irwin:

thanks to rrg for this
Avatar 4:04pm V Priceless:

don't hear too many Cale covers - nice!

Swell pic of you and Yogi, Irwin. You guys both ROCK!
  4:05pm Dean:

There are also at least two other books of poetry about the Yankees: The Ripening of Pinstripes, by Rodney Torreson; and A Poetic Tribute to the 1978 World Champions New York Yankees, by Louis Krapin.
  4:07pm Mark:

"I Really Didn't Say Everything I Said" is a good book of Yogi-isms.
  4:10pm Santos L Halper:

New Doug G?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Irwin:

Five or six years old.
  4:12pm Pidge:

That Gillard was great. Fine show, Ir!
  4:21pm Mark:

Richie Beirach Trio is pretty bitchin'...give it up for the bass player!
  4:28pm Brendan:

Hope floats , unless its a sinker
  4:35pm Tony Seymour:

Hope is the only thing a poet owns.
without Hope all i am is broke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Parq:

'Scuse me for bragging, but I gotta tell someone - my kid just won her first serious skirmish with a landlord. Fine show, as usual, Irwin.
  4:49pm Kross:

Back in the 70's during a particularly bad drought in my small SW Iowa community, an eccentric local farmer brought a group of Hopi Native Americans to our local football field to do a traditional rain dance. Though many scoffed, the day after that ceremony, a large rain fell and the crops were saved. Doubters were forced to put it in their peace pipes and smoke it.
  4:50pm Dean:

Your kid was tenant, Parq, or tenant's counsel? And congratulations, in either case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Parq:

Tenant, Dean. 25. First home after ours. I'm pretty damn proud of her. Thanks for letting my puff my chest on Irwin's playlist.
  4:54pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Sullivan Ballou:

Lovely stuff - makin' me sleepy.
Avatar 4:58pm Monica:

Parq, that puts her right up there with #PizzaRat. Tough stuff, a true New Yorker!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Lewis:

@Parq - ain't it cool when they do those things!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Ike:

Is Ike Quebec from Quebec? Maybe I could go by Ike Maryland, but that doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
  5:02pm Laura L:

David Garland--hooray!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Parq:

Monica, hah! For years, she had pet rats -- cute white and grey guys with terrific personalities. Pretty much any time we told people about this, the looks on their faces made it very clear that they thought we were talking about sewer rats. Now that a sewer rat is the toast of the town, we feel completely vindicated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Irwin:

Two drummers on this Rivers recording - one on the L, one on the R.
  5:28pm P-90:

Congratulations, Parq! A milestone in any modern parent's life.
  5:29pm Laura L:

Doesn't this sound like an industrial musical?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Irwin:

Jeezus rawk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Irwin:

Now pls translate this Klaus title, LL.
  5:31pm Laura L:

"When I am too old to dream"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Irwin:

  5:33pm P-90:

@Laura L.: I was about to say the same thing, it had a lot of that "Industrials" sound
Only thing I could find about it in a quick search is that it was copyrighted in 1970.
  5:34pm P-90:

And a fab shot of Wee Irwin with Yogi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Irwin:

LL: It's from a CD compiled by Otis Fodder on Happi Tyme Records, 2001.
  5:34pm Laura L:

Bitte sehr. Poor Klauschen. He sings, "when I'm too old too dream, then your kiss will live on in my heart."
  5:39pm Laura L:

Otis Fodder knows some industrial musicals! Speaking of industrials--if anybody has friends in L.A. who'd want to know: Steve Young's doing his industrial musicals night in LA, with Eleni Mandell and Don Bolles too--9/29. http://www.cinefamily.org/films/special-events-september-2015/#industrial-musicals-w-live-dj-set-from-don-bolles-of-the-germs

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Mike East:

oh boy, that reminds me, I gotta take my kids to the dentist...haven't been since we lost our dental insurance.
  5:59pm Listening Out There:
